For splattercolor screen i think itd be cool if it actually hid your in game UI when youre hit, so you couldn't see your ink tank, special meter, or even team/opponent status It keeps the concept of not directly affecting your character but forces you to play more careful in a visually weakened state
This isn’t my idea, but I saw someone suggest that the wavebreaker should get stronger with each wave, so it becomes more threatening if you ignore it. Something like increasing the vertical coverage of each wave: 1st wave is normal, 2nd wave requires stricter timing, and the 3rd will be impossible to jump over unless you use elevated terrain
hot take: if missiles didn't have global range, I'd be fine with it returning. I actually like using them somewhat close to the enemy and fighting with them, especially with grim range in 2 and wiper deco in 3. problem is the weapons that don't fight with them and instead just spam them from the backlines, now that is annoying.
I think a good idea to make slider better would be to give it a secondary explosion. A “tidal wave” of sorts, it expands in a circular fashion like wave does but quickly loses height as it goes farther from the origin. The wave completely blocks shots and can combo with the indirect damage of the original explosion to kill, but the end lag is still intact and you’re 100% vulnerable from the top
The thing with reeflider is that it's very strong in low ranks like trip splash, but as you higher in rank it becomes less relevant it pretty much becomes a "Make people move out of this area for a few seconds then die" Button
I am not biased whatsoever. I am not biased whatsoever. I am not biased whatsoever. I am not biased whatsoever. I am not biased whatsoever. I am not biased whatsoever. I am not biased whatsoever. I am not biased whatsoever.
I agree on Kraken not coming back, I feel that Ultra Stamp works as its replacement. I would like to see Triple Splashdown over Reefslider, however. Also, inverted controls sounds like an AMAZING challenge/private battle setting 🤩
the way y'all wanted to get rid of BOTH my main's specials😭 (octobrush nouveau and inkbrush) but actually though if they brought back inkstorm a mist underneath would be so cool it'd make sharking in inkstorm easier
Ink storm needs to have an area in the center where the rain falls at twice the normal rate (as well as a second radius indicator to show the "heart of the storm"). This would have implications for it's paint and it's DPS, and would make it more impactful overall while still keeping the counterplay intact.
I feel like tacticooler should be reworked into more of a general game mechanic any weapon can use rather than a specific special weapon. Like how ink armor was kinda turned into the armor on squid roll and surge. Maybe it’s like a consumable item anyone can just be holding, like fizzbangs. You can hold the button to drink it yourself, or tap it to throw the drink to another team member, and if you kill an enemy holding it you get it for yourself.
personally i think reeflsider should do something like wave breaker or cooler where you have to manually use it after activating the special it would also have an indicator for the direction the reefslider will move while your holding it this would allow it to be much easier to aim and position edit: when the reefslider is generating the rails, the rails will deal small damage
i find it interesting that you said inkjet was meant to be the sort of spiritual successor to inkzooka both of them have identical instruction text upon activation ("Fire at Will!") and trizooka was updated to "Take the Shot!"
I'd be OK with bringing back Screen (if it had a blooper effect like you two mentioned) but they GOTTA allow teammates to see through the screen. If I'm playing a weapon like Squiffer, my teammates can just nerf me at a moments notice by blocking off the angles I'm trying to control.
finally someone who talks about how jank ultra stamp is. i die to this special all the time, and for how many people say its bottom tier, i legit thought they were playing a prank on me or something.
15:59 concept wise, the best idea would be the first 3 waves are normal speed but it gets slower over time with the waves deploying, and you cant place more than one at a time.
Zooka: make it actually consistent, add lag and it can return Big bubbler/ zipcaster/ inkjet/ crab tank: can return unchanged Booyah bomb: like chase said; people can only charge it when alive in exchange of temporary mobility buffs, make it also ssj3 with long ahh hair Tenta missile: rework it into a rocket launcher that plays like a main weapon; it shoot 10 missiles in a straight line that explode at contact. If it doesn't change, don't bring it back Ink storm: they can give it total ink resistance (like inkbrush) so the healing actually work. Won't care that much if it doesn't return Wavebreaker: don't know how to make it good, don't care if it doesn't return Ink vac: we need to be able to cancel the succ part Killer wail 5.1: should not come back, return the OG killer wail instead Ultra stamp: give it front invincibility and unbuff the shockwaves Reefslider: agree with what you said; remove end lag, make it go further, make it eat bombs, make it be able to superjump, be able to steer it or drop it mid-duration for less damage Tri strikes: agree with chase; make it able to swim in exchange of a smaller radius, give it also OG strike dps Tacticooler: make it breakable and decrease its grab and throw range Super chump: don't care Kraken: make it a hp special, add more knockback, bring back the ability to super jump, decrease it startup and end lag and make spu, swim speed, ns and qsj affect its speed/superjumps Splashdown: Chara made a video back in s2 on how it's a bad design; it's a noob stomper that's a su*c*de button in higher levels. Triple splashdown is even worse; it suffer the same problems exept it rewards you for dying since the fists still exists. Their buff made the problem even worse since the user AND the fists are faster. This special requires no skill and encourage you to make bad plays or to use it as a panic button. This is one of the most unhealthy specials in the game, it should have never returned and should never come back again Splattercolor screen: a screen that mess up your senses is a terible idea, smokes and flash bangs are as unhealthy as invicibility or invisibility. It should not return Armor/stingray: never come back Bubble blower: remove the ability to trow subs during the special Killer wail: return it unchanged The rest got reworked already
Nah Kraken Royale should return either exactly the same but without a one shot and with its Super Jump back, or with enhanced pushback, imo its one of the coolest concepts in Splatoon
To take Tri-strike's reworks (Undo the damage buff and let it swim) a step further, I think you should be able to use your main weapon with it, and extend the time you have to throw the strikes. As for Crab and slider, I think Crab should have the inverse of the nerf they gave it: instead of taking more time to fire after leaving ball form, it should have to "cool down" and slow back down its main shots' firing speed before entering ball form. It already has a decent amount of lag on the Explo shot before balling, so I think a cooldown on balling when using the rapid fire mode would make it far more vulnerable and require you to use it more carefully and less aggressively. (almost forgot to add this after putting it in the last paragraph LOL) And for slider, aside from the needed bomb-eating and endlag reduction, let it start mid air (PLEASE) and jump up small steps and fly off ramps, like you could use it off a ramp in spawn and just dive bomb your plat in a big arc to stop a RM push, no super jump needed, it would make it SO much more dynamic and fun!
i'd advocate to keep reefslider than splashdown and im not kidding. I don't wait for my teammate to use Splashdown I wait for my teammate to use Reefslider. It paints and combos, if you rework reefslider to be better it will always be a better special than the one that just explodes in your direct vicinity, affecting no one but your own fights
I would like the sting ray to return I am a badass with that special this one time back in splatoon 2 in splat zones I killed the entire enemy team in just one sting ray
The beakon in the big bubbler, since launch has been giving me splatoon 1 showing flashbacks. If you don't know what that was, you could go in between a splash wall and if someone tried to shoot at you, it would always hit the splash wall.
I've thought a bit about how some specials could be recycled going into 4 (and a new one I'm fully expecting is SOMETHING based on the Pearl Drone), and one idea I've thought about is making hybrids of specials. For example, one of Inkstorm and Tacticooler. Basically, you get rid of the storm's ability to damage opponents, decrease the radius a bit, but you get the beneficial effects of the Tacticooler as long as you stay in it.
a lot for people forget that a some of the specials are designed to shut down some weapon classes in particular (low dps weapons -stamp, bubble - charger, wave - dualies)
screen is such a good concept of an area denier special because it actually has a side effect besides dmg, my personal hot take is it should make it so everything is grey, i do not know why it was so hard to just make it a medium grey 😭
I honestly love splattercolour screen and really hope to see it return in splatoon 4! The only really issue with it now is the audio being a little painful for some players, but that’s an easy fix. Fingers crossed it comes back :]
I think it would be interesting if there were two or three different coolers with different kinds of effects like one for special charging/keeping, one for movement and one for maybe ink efficiency
Honeatly i would love wail back if they converted it from a global displacement special to a short/medium range combo tool. My favorite aspect is that you can shoot while wail does its thing, so leaning into this would make it less cancer.
In terms of being fun, Kraken is one of the most fun specials. Keep it for that reason alone. But they could change it, like maybe you turn into a big squid monster that can damage people with its tentacles but is slow and pretty easy to dodge. Remove invincibility or give it a weak spot. There are a lot of things they could do to fix it. But removing it entirely would make the game less fun.
My idea for screen was to make all ink look like enemy ink so you can never truly know if the paint behind and Infront of you will actually heal or dmg you or if the player over there is actually your teammate... it could really confuse players and make going through the screen extremely unwanted and dangerous while also not giving people seizures, and for the sound, I think turning all sound effects off is cool, but to let players know they are "affected" the music should sound muffled/underwatery while all the sound effects are muted
Now that you put it, Tacticooler is basically Ink Armor but slightly less bullshit Edit: the screen ideas being similar to Dizzy Dancing from Mario Party is cool, and I honestly didn’t know that you could parry squid roll
For Splattercolor Screen, I want them to remove the saturation and the audio defects, but make it so you're more slippery in both kid and swim form even you're own team's ink is slippery until the effects wear off. And it's harder for you to turn. Kinda like the ice physics in story mode.
For wavebreaker I think the idea is good but just make it like sprinkler and eventually decay through Time and make the time in between 1 ring coming out after the other just one more second from each one or half a second from each one and end up just making it pseudo sprinkler that has more range but can't paint
Idk i remember in the splatoon 3 direct they said "3 was the end of the trilogy" (i know it was most likely referring to single player) but i think having all new specials and stages might be interesting
I want a game with Zipcaster, Ink Storm, Booyah Bomb, Ink Vac, Ink Jet, Crab Tank, Tacticooler (with heavy reworks), Kraken Royale (but make the knock back stronger and even more stronger in scale to damage so weapons like Chargers can knock them back even further), Triple Splashdown (but make the fists significantly slower to drop so you have time to escape or shoot them down after the person drops but also closing off that area cuz people don’t want to walk into the fists. And also buff the super jump splashdown), Splattercolor Screen (with changes of course), and Bubble Blower from Splatoon 2 cuz that special was goated
I'd be fine if kraken was made to just have strong armor or something to nerf it, but I really don't want it to be removed kraken & killer wail are THE iconic splatoon specials, it just felt wrong not having anything truly comparable in splatoon 2 (baller doesn't count) honestly, i'd love for the OG wail to come back too, was so damn fun to use and all the replacement specials we've gotten just don't have that sheer cool factor that the wail did...
Splattercolor Screen can probably be turned into a sub weapon. Ink Vac though will definitely return especially since it never got its time to shine. Hope it gets major buffs in Splatoon 4 if it were to return.
I want Big Bubbler back, but they should give it wheels and it moves forward slowly in the direction the player was facing. (also gets rid of tower cheese)
Dapple N and Tri-Slosher N user here! Trizooka: needs heavy mods before returning like making the shots smaller Tacticooler: think it should come back though with slight modifications. (decreasing throw and grab range, making it breakable is fair), decrease time from 18 seconds to 15 seconds Triple Splash and Reefslider: one of them should come back but not both, I also prefer Reefslider as it feels less panicky and more like you actually have to plan when to use it. Triple Splash is a panic button that doesn't require skill. I've seen way too many emperries just run into mid or enemy base and just go for it, saw this with Nautilus too. Reefslider needs the ability to move up small bumps as I've had a lot of encounters where I'd use it and a bump on the map neutralizes it. Kraken: definitely needs to go Killer wail 5.1: keep as is Super Chump: keep as is Tenta Missiles: NO Wave Breaker: make the waves slightly faster the longer it's out to make it more threatening Ink Storm: Keep as is, I like the idea of a passive special Zipcaster: absolutely yes Big Bubbler: good as is but a bit OP for Rollers Booyah Bomb: keep as is except, yes, only living players can speed it up. Maybe remove the booyah command when you die Ink Vac: yes you should be able to use it early, kinda sad you're stuck with it Inkjet: yes, it's a great special. No changes needed in my opinion Crab Tank: the state it is in now is pretty good, maybe put it on a few more weapons Ultra Stamp: make movement more fluid and less janky and front invincibility is good Tri-Strike: I like it as is, removing the ability to swim is a good trade-off IMO. Splattercolor Screen: inverting controls sounds fun but may prove an issue for physically disabled people. Maybe it can instead switch your ink colors Bubble Blower: No throwing sub-weapons while activated. I feel like it's unique enough to deserve a second chance instead of being stuck in Splat 2 String Ray: no. just no. Killer wail 5.1 does the same thing way better
They should rework inkstorm so that it deals less damage but has a bigger radius, and also having thunder as a warning and lightning that can strike players and objects that are in the storm too long. For wave breaker I’d like it if the waves had some height to it so it was harder to jump over
I feel like something that not a lot of people are talking about is how some of the specials on the lower end of power/interest could just be combined, making them more interesting and reducing the over saturation of specials. Wave Breaker’s waves are too easy to dodge, so what if we instead combined it with Super Chump’s explosions? You could also add the instant echo locator effect to the chumps launch to make it even better at creating opportune fights for your team. Is Inkstorm too bland? How about we combine it with the other slow moving area control special that debuffs enemies in Splattercolor screen. Just take the Splattercolor screen Debuff (or, preferably a reworked Debuff) and apply it to the area inside the inkstorm. If you want to get really unhinged, you can have Reefslider deploy a big bubbler after its explosion. It would certainly be interesting. Also, completely unrelated side note: Triple Inkstrike makes me really sad. Splatoon 1 Inkstrike had the best game feel of any special in the series. Yet, the Splatoon 3 variant might have the worst. It just doesn’t feel powerful to use even if you get a bunch of splats, a far cry from launching a tactical nuke on your opponents in Splatoon 1.
Splattercolor screen shouldve been bubble blower imo. All nintendo needs to do is remove the instant explosion and it would be perfect. Plus you can interact with the bubbles, leading to interesting counterplay.
The idea I'm thinking would be cool for an inkjet rework is maybe merge it with crab a bit and give it both a machine gun and explosive shots. (Also stamp, wave breaker and slider should return just to mess with everyone who got them on their favourite weapon because I'm evil)
If Tacticooler came back, I'd like to see how it fares without the respawn buffs. The concept of the special is a sugar rush - you drink the soda and you're bouncing off the walls and zooming around with max mobility buffs. I've always thought that it's odd how the devs tacked on S1 Quick Respawn and Special Saver (especially after they nerfed QR and added Respawn Punisher to indirectly nerf it further). How good would cooler be if it was solely a mobility special? Could it be strong but not meta defining? One of the things I really like about cooler is how it makes all of the mobility abilities accessible. Focus on that, no bringing back S1 zombie QRSJ.
I totally with Chase with the whole enemies able to grab a drink from the cooler 😂 But imagine instead of giving you some buffs, it poisons you instead, but the damage is like a wave breaker level
rain is cool they just keep not putting it on anything which would benefit from it. like rain on something like a stringer or if they gave it to brella again (without sprinkler that part's important don't get it twisted) it could be helpful but they always put it on things that can't utilize it well. like all the weapons that have a habit of getting 92 damage and just making it kill while also supporting the team. (also just like more UI to show where the rain falls)
INK ARMOR i didnt played splatoon 2, but i knew about that special... and trust me, if a had it in this game, roller would mean nothing to fear about since as a inkbrush user, those one shot weapon are the only big problem i have to deal in any match
I want big bubbler for roller (I do agree to remove the fact that the device is a perfect shield :P) and rain for brella and ds bc they actually have synergy with the healing (and ofc also actually bringing back the dang brella+mist+rain kit and ds+storm kits)
What if, like the mk8 blooper, splattercolor gave its victims slippery controls Yes thats means a dynamo could slide around a corner with a horizontal flick, but if they do that, just let them have it
me personally... zooka - no big bubbler - indifferent caster - yes missiles - no storm - indifferent booyah bomb - rework to be slightly different wavebreaker - yes vac - yes wail - no inkjet - slight rework stamp - needs buffs crab - yes (im a splat dualie main im biased) slider - needs heavy rework tri strike - if it comes back it needs slight changes cooler - needs nerfs but yes chumps - yes but buffed kraken - no triple splashdown - no screen - if it comes back then it needs heavy reworks
19:24 Honestly for the most part specials that you actually use and also have counter play should return (crab, inkjet, zip for example) but specials where there's no interaction are just not good for the game (missiles, wail, inkstorm) its just not fun to use or fight
I used to main wiper deco sometimes I feel like I won a fight or got a trade that I would of not got if it was slower launch time so that’s a perfect nerf I think it would be nice if you could instead also press r to mark the opponents for the users team for 8 seconds as long as the opponents are in the missile reticle and they get rid of wave breaker
Inkjet should have the power of it's exhaust return back to before that was nerfed in S2. Where it was actually possible to kill people with inkjet exhaust. Splashdown and Reefslider should both return - As Salmon Run exclusive specials.
Zooka - i like that there are longer range aggro specials, but it needs to be severely adjusted Bubbler - i like it, it can come back, but maybe make it easier to like position aggressively Zipcaster - yes, but make it easier - more air time, better ink efficiency things like that so its more approachable, and potentially adjusting it so it could actually work on all weapon classes Missiles - nuh uh Ink Storm - yeah, but i want it to feel more impactful (a lightning thing or a mist effect would be cool) i want it back but it needs a level of skill expression or something to make it not bland as a special Booyah Bomb - Yes! it's well balanced and feels fun and extremely cool. i like Chase's idea too! Wave Breaker - an adaptation of it, i like that it does recon and damage together it feels cool if it weren't paper thin. Chase's idea is also cool! I think i mainly just want a recon special back somehow Vac - yes, but make it better. it's fun but it actually has too much counterplay Wail - no Inkjet - yes! that thing is so fun Stamp - unfortunately not, it is fun but it isn't good and feels really annoying and useless and inconsistent. Yes it can come back if its ability to actually block shots comes back. also the lag is no annoying Crab - yes, it could be fun in another game, but it could be modified to make it feel fresher Slider - no thanks :) Strikes - it feels boring, i wouldn't mind it being modified and given more skill expression rather than being default painting and retake special Cooler - make it non-mandatory and yes, but honestly i don't really like how mandatory specials make the game less fun for support/anchor players :( Chumps - yes, but i want it to be made more interesting, it has so so much potential Kraken - iconic, but its super annoying. i think there should be more counterplay than 'jUsT dOdGe iT'. lag also makes it so much worse Triple Splashdown - Yes! this is fun, but actually make it easier to counter, i often feel like it's too much of a noob stomper special Screen - actually yes, but change the accessibility effects, but even as a charger main i think its cool to have a line of sight blocker, but also make it better for your teammates - and i like the anti sharking tool it gives, and that should be better Edit : i think bubble blower should come back - but not with the bomb combo, i didnt play s2 and would love to play it! Edit 2: i think making slider fully steerable would be very cool, kind of like a baller type thing?, and i dont mind the s1 inkstrike gimmick of using the map, that sounded cool as well! If you read this thank you very much! Have a great day
Nahhh please don't make bubbler easier to position lmfao that would be horrid I don't think every special needs to be a mega skill expression type special like zipcaster, inkjet, or zooka. Simple specials benefit the game cuz it let's a kit focus more on the main weapon (ie: long drapid, slosher, z+f) Also, I haven't watched the video yet, but in a theoretical spot I think that reefslider is a significantly better and significantly healthier of an idea than triple splashdown. Like, just make it have bad startup (so you can't panic button it), lower radius, and super lower or even remove it's endlag and it would be so much more fun than triple splashdown ever was Zip is weird cuz I feel like if it worked better on short range weapons it would be stupidly annoying. It'd need to have super low endlag I feel to make up for the fact that you will be extremely predictable. And then i think it would make zip even better on the weapons it's genuinely good on? It really is just by nature of it's design that it works best on mobile midline weapons. And that's fine, not every special needs to be viable on every weapon. --Altho you know what would be cool?:let you cancel the grapple with a jump--
I agree with Bubble Blower coming back. I feel that taking away the use of *BOMBS* DURING THE DURATION OF THE BUBBLES FOR THE USER would make it more of a team-oriented special, like how Tenta Brella takes alot of team effort to take down. Blower has alot of potential for high object damage weapons, such as Stringers and Splatanas, and can, and will, enable the main weapons to be played much more agressively. I'd love to see a Tri-Stringer with either Suction or Splat bomb and Bubble Blower to really enable the kiting capabilities of the weapon, while still keeping it's distant range usage. Having the lethal bombs will allow the weapon to be played as much more of a zoning weapon, and will combo nicely with the splash damage of the bombs to still enable (some) kills when you can only hit two arrows directly. Having Bubble Blower will allow the main weapon's surprising close range capabilities to shine, allow for alot more team-oriented plays to be made, both defensive and offensive, as well as giving it a "get off me" tool. By this, I mean the bubbles could act as a shield while the user super jumps out, or scares the opponent away since stringer has such good object damage.
yeah I hate cooler because its a boring special and it still confuses as to why its the best speical in the game and literally needs to be used if u want a chance at winning. Also yes bring back bubble blower AND keep the bomb combo
@@m4rcyonstation93 I would be fine with it returning but I really don’t want another meta centered around it and for the bubble blower take, idk I liked it it was a cool little trick u could do to get the bubbles to detonate super fast and added to its versatility. Hell it’s my favorite special in the whole splatoon franchise. Being able to use it aggressively to get kills, supportively to help ur team get in with protection of the bubbles, or defensively. Without the bomb combo I feel like it loses its aggressive attribute and the whole reason bubble blower is my fav special in the entire series is bc it can play all 3 roles pretty well
Maybe making tacticooler not applicable on rainmaker holder would be better so you won’t see it in every rainmaker game (i don’t think ink armor applies to rainmaker holder?)
I actually want Kraken to return, I like invincibility in most games, even if it only lasts for a few seconds. I like the idea of a special that inverts controls, but maybe for that, they could make it so your right stick/gyroscope becomes inverted during the effect. And Tacticooler cannot be destroyed?? I try to destroy my enemies' Tacticooler when I see it, but I just thought it has a lot of HP. Well, I will not waste time trying to do that anymore.
Personally, I don’t care if a special has been in 2 games as long as it’s just a well designed special. My ideal Splatoon 4 would look a lot like Splatoon 3, because I want them to focus less on adding new stuff just for the sake of it, and more on refining the game to be the best it can be by reworking things to fix their fundamental problems, removing things that just don’t work at all, and adding new things only where there is a niche to be filled. Some of my thoughts on the specials: (Warning, it’s long) -I think Big Bubbler being such a simple special is what causes most of its problems. When it comes to extreme specials like massive HP shields, there needs to be a lot of different knobs you can tweak so you can balance the special without affecting its core identity too much. But with Big Bubbler, basically the only thing you can do is give it more or less HP. I think a much better example of an HP special is Bubbler Blower, because it has a few different quirks that come with upside and downsides. First, the bubbles move around, which makes it a lot harder to camp one area with them, but makes them much better for moving in. Enemies can destroy the bubbles by shooting them, but you can keep them alive by shooting them back, so if you want your bubbles to last a long time, they can, but it requires active attention from you, and you can’t shoot at enemies while you shoot your bubbles. And there’s the fact that if you pop your own bubbles, they explode, allowing you to use them offensively. So basically, get rid of Big Bubbler and bring back Bubble Blower. And get rid of Ink Vac too, because it also has a lot of problems that Bubbler Blower doesn’t, and we don’t need 2 damage sponge specials. -On the other hand, I think there’s room for a few displacement specials in Splatoon, and Ink Storm has some unique and desirable attributes. It’s definitely not the most powerful special, but it’s not pathetically weak either, so I think it’s a very fair choice for a lot of kits that already have an amazing main or sub weapon, or for weapons that paint a lot and get tons of specials. Plus, the new healing buff would synergize so well with some weapons that didn’t get Ink Storm, like Mini Splatling or Tetra Dualies. I think the one change I would give Ink Storm is to make it a little bigger on the sides, so it’s kind of oval shaped, so that the quickest paths out of the Storm are directly forward or backward, forcing enemies to either retreat or face you head on. -Wavebreaker is a fundamentally terrible special. It doesn’t do much damage, the marking isn’t very long, the counterplay is just jumping which is not punishable enough to be valuable, and on top of all that, it can be cancelled early because they made it an object special. Wavebreaker should never come back. However, it would be cool to have a special focused on marking, so here’s a few basic things I think a marking focused special would need to be successful: It needs to mark for a long time, like 15 seconds. Specials cost somewhere around 200 points usually, so a marking special definitely mark longer than a Point Sensor. It also absolutely should not be an object special like Wavebreaker. It should work more like Killer Wail or Ink Storm, where it can’t be stopped once you’ve popped it, and you can use it really fast for a quick ink refill. And finally, marking alone, even for a really long time, is not valuable enough to make a special out of. The special need either needs to deal a little damage somehow, or have some other secondary effect, like the ink drain + slow down from Toxic Mist. -You guys took the words right out of my mouth for Ultra Stamp. Kraken should not have come back, because it fills the same niche as Ultra Stamp, but Ultra Stamp just has healthier design. The only change Ultra Stamp needs to be usable is to just make it actually, totally invincible from the front, instead of pseudo-invincibility from the hammer eating projectiles, because that is why some weapons with lots of fast projectiles can just shoot you through the hammer. I also agree that the shockwaves are ridiculous and should be reverted, but I think Stamp needs a compensation buff in return. Probably just make it generally faster and more agile, because Splatoon 3 is a faster game than Splatoon 2, so Stamp does struggle keep up a bit, even when we ignore all the other problems. -Personally, I don’t think Reefslider and Splashdown are specials that should have existed at all, let alone be added to the same game. They suffer the same problem as Big Bubbler, where they’re just too simple, and the only knob you can really tweak is the size of the explosion. Splashdown allowing you to basically summon a massive explosion right on top of you is just way too cheesy and skilless. Reefslider shipping you right into enemy lines is stupid design in the opposite direction, because you throwing yourself into enemy territory with a flashy explosion is just a bad idea, even if it could eat bombs and had 0 endlag. No more giant explosion specials, please. -Tacticooler is tough because it’s a really cool special that does a lot of good things, but it’s just too powerful. Thankfully, it has a lot of knobs we can turn. I agree that the throw radius and grab radius should definitely be reduced, since that’s where most of the strategy of actually using the special comes from, and as it is now, it’s basically guaranteed that your entire team can get the drinks, which does just make it feel like Ink Armor. I think giving the drink stand HP so you have to be really careful where you put it would honestly be a great change, but just making it last less time would also be good. Other than that, I think it just gives you too many abilities. I feel like the maxed out S1 style QR is a huge part of its identity, so I don’t want to touch that, but I think the special saver aspect should just be removed entirely. Unconditional QR is good enough as is, and I think this would make Tacticooler mainly good for comps that would want QR anyways, rather than a necessity for every team. -I used to think Super Chumps were just a fundamentally weak sub weapon, but as time has gone on, my opinion has reversed and I think they just need some minor buffs and fitting kits to be good. I mostly just want them to be a little bigger, so they’re better at blocking shots, and have a little more health, so it isn’t as easy to shred them all down. -I would rather they didn’t bring back Splattercolor Screen at all, partially because I don’t want them to mess it up again, and partially because it’s just so annoying in casual play. It seems like it could be good in competitive where you have voicechat and you can build around it with marking subs and stuff, but in casual I always get annoyed when someone on my team uses Screen because it blocks my vision just as much as the enemy’s.
You said yourself during the Kraken part that Invincibility is unhealthy for Splatoon. Reefslider has Invincibility. Ergo, it should not return. As it stands currently, Reefslider has many of the same 'features' as S1 Kraken: *Invincibility*, unreactably fast a 1-shot that most (if not all) weapons can't fight back against, and endlag that can get the user splatted. Reefslider has a lot of potential alternative paths for how they could change it to be healthier, but in its current state it should *never, ever* come back.
Honestly i hate inkstrike because how there's basically no counter play in cases of OT tower etc where they can just throw the strikes from far away fast force you off the point and then get on the tower while the strikes are still active completely destroying any chance for a OT comeback. Booyah you can still always shoot the person while they're charging. Same with kraken. Basically no counter play
Honestly Inwould hate wave breaker coming back even though Range Blaster is my only 5 star because it’s ability to lock down walls really limits map design
Honestly i hope they don't bring any special back like in Splatoon 2, call me crazy but I don't want a oversaturation of specials again even of stuff like crab and zipcaster are extremely cool
I honestly argue to bring back S3 kracken in the state that it is now instead of ultra stamp. I love Stamp, but it has just too many flaws now and it doesnt feel as good to use. On top of that Kracken cheese got patched and its pretty balanced now compared to S1.
One change they can make to Booyah bomb is to let you throw it whenever you want. Kinda like a Fizzy Bomb, or a Rainmaker sort of speak. Have the Booyah Bomb have different effects depending on what level of charge you decide to throw it at. You can effectively increase the time it takes to fully charge a Booyah Bomb, but make it stronger and do something a little different, than what a normal Booyah bomb has now. And for a weaker version of the bomb, it may as well be an oversized burst bomb. Enough to cover a zone but not be able to stall like a normal Booyah Bomb This gives the Booyah Bomb some sort of skill gap and variety depending on the situation. Do you want a Nuke but may take a while to charge? Or do you want a glorified stamper throw, but you throw it as soon as you pop your special?

For splattercolor screen i think itd be cool if it actually hid your in game UI when youre hit, so you couldn't see your ink tank, special meter, or even team/opponent status
It keeps the concept of not directly affecting your character but forces you to play more careful in a visually weakened state
Hope we can do a part 2 👌
with stages???
:3
I like your idea for wavebreaker
YES DO IT
This isn’t my idea, but I saw someone suggest that the wavebreaker should get stronger with each wave, so it becomes more threatening if you ignore it. Something like increasing the vertical coverage of each wave: 1st wave is normal, 2nd wave requires stricter timing, and the 3rd will be impossible to jump over unless you use elevated terrain
I fully agree with Chase’s idea when he mentioned inverting controls of Splattercolor screen. 😂 it would be great.
Dizzy dancing from Mario Party 2
but cheap and would ruin the fun of competitive play. or even casual play. sure, it would be funny, but it would not be fun literally at all.
hot take: if missiles didn't have global range, I'd be fine with it returning.
22:26 the splatoon 4 sfx for it should be the discord ping sound
The collab we never knew we needed
I agree on Kraken not coming back, I feel that Ultra Stamp works as its replacement. I would like to see Triple Splashdown over Reefslider, however. Also, inverted controls sounds like an AMAZING challenge/private battle setting 🤩
44:23 but a lot of stick players get motion sick from motion controls
Here's a thought:
Give Ink Storm the blooper mechanic (with the enemy ink), and make it do less damage to balance it.
Boom, perfect long-range counter
the way y'all wanted to get rid of BOTH my main's specials😭 (octobrush nouveau and inkbrush) but actually though if they brought back inkstorm a mist underneath would be so cool it'd make sharking in inkstorm easier
As a baller enjoyer, I feel like it could make a return if reworked slightly and given to weapons that can benefit from the repositioning
I think triple splashdown is such a fun special to use but as a casual brush player I suffer to it so much
Ink storm needs to have an area in the center where the rain falls at twice the normal rate (as well as a second radius indicator to show the "heart of the storm").
If you're talking about Tenta Missiles, he'll be back from Splatoon 4.
Don't mess with Flyfish from Salmon Run.
personally i think reeflsider should do something like wave breaker or cooler where you have to manually use it after activating the special
it would also have an indicator for the direction the reefslider will move while your holding it
this would allow it to be much easier to aim and position
edit: when the reefslider is generating the rails, the rails will deal small damage
i find it interesting that you said inkjet was meant to be the sort of spiritual successor to inkzooka
both of them have identical instruction text upon activation ("Fire at Will!") and trizooka was updated to "Take the Shot!"
If Reefslider ever comes back, I hope they make it clearer. It shouldn’t protect you from above after the shark is gone.
finally someone who talks about how jank ultra stamp is.
i die to this special all the time, and for how many people say its bottom tier, i legit thought they were playing a prank on me or something.
15:59 concept wise, the best idea would be the first 3 waves are normal speed but it gets slower over time with the waves deploying, and you cant place more than one at a time.
6:52 “a lot more fair” mind you it was like THE bottom tier and most useless special in the game before its buff LMAO 😭😭😭
Zooka: make it actually consistent, add lag and it can return
Big bubbler/ zipcaster/ inkjet/ crab tank: can return unchanged
Booyah bomb: like chase said; people can only charge it when alive in exchange of temporary mobility buffs, make it also ssj3 with long ahh hair
Tenta missile: rework it into a rocket launcher that plays like a main weapon; it shoot 10 missiles in a straight line that explode at contact. If it doesn't change, don't bring it back
Ink storm: they can give it total ink resistance (like inkbrush) so the healing actually work. Won't care that much if it doesn't return
Wavebreaker: don't know how to make it good, don't care if it doesn't return
Ink vac: we need to be able to cancel the succ part
Killer wail 5.1: should not come back, return the OG killer wail instead
Ultra stamp: give it front invincibility and unbuff the shockwaves
Reefslider: agree with what you said; remove end lag, make it go further, make it eat bombs, make it be able to superjump, be able to steer it or drop it mid-duration for less damage
Tri strikes: agree with chase; make it able to swim in exchange of a smaller radius, give it also OG strike dps
Tacticooler: make it breakable and decrease its grab and throw range
Super chump: don't care
Kraken: make it a hp special, add more knockback, bring back the ability to super jump, decrease it startup and end lag and make spu, swim speed, ns and qsj affect its speed/superjumps
Splashdown: Chara made a video back in s2 on how it's a bad design; it's a noob stomper that's a su*c*de button in higher levels.
Triple splashdown is even worse; it suffer the same problems exept it rewards you for dying since the fists still exists. Their buff made the problem even worse since the user AND the fists are faster.
This special requires no skill and encourage you to make bad plays or to use it as a panic button.
This is one of the most unhealthy specials in the game, it should have never returned and should never come back again
Splattercolor screen: a screen that mess up your senses is a terible idea, smokes and flash bangs are as unhealthy as invicibility or invisibility.
It should not return
Armor/stingray: never come back
Bubble blower: remove the ability to trow subs during the special
Killer wail: return it unchanged
The rest got reworked already
I would like the sting ray to return I am a badass with that special this one time back in splatoon 2 in splat zones I killed the entire enemy team in just one sting ray
true, but the current killer wail already does sting ray's job a bit better
Bubble blower please, and og killer whale
Tenta Missiles don't deserve the disrespect as a Wiper Deco Main
Honeatly i would love wail back if they converted it from a global displacement special to a short/medium range combo tool. My favorite aspect is that you can shoot while wail does its thing, so leaning into this would make it less cancer.
In terms of being fun, Kraken is one of the most fun specials. Keep it for that reason alone. But they could change it, like maybe you turn into a big squid monster that can damage people with its tentacles but is slow and pretty easy to dodge. Remove invincibility or give it a weak spot. There are a lot of things they could do to fix it. But removing it entirely would make the game less fun.
DO NOT BRING BACK TENTAMISSILES OR WAIL. Or at least reduce the lock on range or make it so you have to be specific with your lock ons.
Now that you put it, Tacticooler is basically Ink Armor but slightly less bullshit
Edit: the screen ideas being similar to Dizzy Dancing from Mario Party is cool, and I honestly didn’t know that you could parry squid roll
For Splattercolor Screen, I want them to remove the saturation and the audio defects, but make it so you're more slippery in both kid and swim form even you're own team's ink is slippery until the effects wear off. And it's harder for you to turn. Kinda like the ice physics in story mode.
I think ink storm should comback but with lightning strikes. It's like combining missiles with storm, but not global effect
Just discovered the channel, amazing content!
I'd be fine if kraken was made to just have strong armor or something to nerf it, but I really don't want it to be removed
kraken & killer wail are THE iconic splatoon specials, it just felt wrong not having anything truly comparable in splatoon 2 (baller doesn't count)
honestly, i'd love for the OG wail to come back too, was so damn fun to use and all the replacement specials we've gotten just don't have that sheer cool factor that the wail did...
Trizooka: needs heavy mods before returning like making the shots smaller
Tacticooler: think it should come back though with slight modifications. (decreasing throw and grab range, making it breakable is fair), decrease time from 18 seconds to 15 seconds
Triple Splash and Reefslider: one of them should come back but not both, I also prefer Reefslider as it feels less panicky and more like you actually have to plan when to use it.
Kraken: definitely needs to go
Killer wail 5.1: keep as is
Super Chump: keep as is
Tenta Missiles: NO
Wave Breaker: make the waves slightly faster the longer it's out to make it more threatening
Ink Storm: Keep as is, I like the idea of a passive special
Zipcaster: absolutely yes
Big Bubbler: good as is but a bit OP for Rollers
Booyah Bomb: keep as is except, yes, only living players can speed it up. Maybe remove the booyah command when you die
Ink Vac: yes you should be able to use it early, kinda sad you're stuck with it
Inkjet: yes, it's a great special. No changes needed in my opinion
Crab Tank: the state it is in now is pretty good, maybe put it on a few more weapons
Ultra Stamp: make movement more fluid and less janky and front invincibility is good
Tri-Strike: I like it as is, removing the ability to swim is a good trade-off IMO.
Splattercolor Screen: inverting controls sounds fun but may prove an issue for physically disabled people. Maybe it can instead switch your ink colors
Bubble Blower: No throwing sub-weapons while activated. I feel like it's unique enough to deserve a second chance instead of being stuck in Splat 2
String Ray: no. just no. Killer wail 5.1 does the same thing way better
They should rework inkstorm so that it deals less damage but has a bigger radius, and also having thunder as a warning and lightning that can strike players and objects that are in the storm too long.
For wave breaker I’d like it if the waves had some height to it so it was harder to jump over
inkvac should have way higher runspeed like slightly above wiper. allow it to keep up with its teamates and protect them better
If cooler comes back i want it to boost stats of equipment so the special boosts the things the weapons want
Gus “Slosher with torpedo and…”
Hold up, wait a minute. NO
Imo that’s the best sub it could get, including burst and it would be hell to fight.
I want Tenta Missiles to get the Killer Whale 5.1/Big Bubbler Treatment. The General Idea is fine, but it needs a reworking.
I totally with Chase with the whole enemies able to grab a drink from the cooler 😂
But imagine instead of giving you some buffs, it poisons you instead, but the damage is like a wave breaker level
rain is cool they just keep not putting it on anything which would benefit from it. like rain on something like a stringer or if they gave it to brella again (without sprinkler that part's important don't get it twisted) it could be helpful but they always put it on things that can't utilize it well.
like all the weapons that have a habit of getting 92 damage and just making it kill while also supporting the team. (also just like more UI to show where the rain falls)
Which specials shouldn’t come back is mild.
You want the ultimate spicy hot take video, discuss which main weapons shouldn’t return for Splatoon 4.
all i want me is to buff the inkmines back to splat1 inkmines, nothing like playing aerospray on the tower and putting a mine down
INK ARMOR
i didnt played splatoon 2, but i knew about that special... and trust me, if a had it in this game, roller would mean nothing to fear about since as a inkbrush user, those one shot weapon are the only big problem i have to deal in any match
"Hey Vsauce, Michael here. Your home security is great.............
Or is it?"
44:07 brooo ive been saying so much it should revert your controls 😭
I want big bubbler for roller (I do agree to remove the fact that the device is a perfect shield :P) and rain for brella and ds bc they actually have synergy with the healing (and ofc also actually bringing back the dang brella+mist+rain kit and ds+storm kits)
What if, like the mk8 blooper, splattercolor gave its victims slippery controls
Yes thats means a dynamo could slide around a corner with a horizontal flick, but if they do that, just let them have it
i really hope bubble blower comes back, i didnt really get a chance to play it before i lost my s2 copy lol
me personally...
zooka - no
big bubbler - indifferent
caster - yes
missiles - no
storm - indifferent
booyah bomb - rework to be slightly different
wavebreaker - yes
vac - yes
wail - no
inkjet - slight rework
stamp - needs buffs
crab - yes (im a splat dualie main im biased)
slider - needs heavy rework
tri strike - if it comes back it needs slight changes
cooler - needs nerfs but yes
chumps - yes but buffed
kraken - no
triple splashdown - no
screen - if it comes back then it needs heavy reworks
19:24
Honestly for the most part specials that you actually use and also have counter play should return (crab, inkjet, zip for example) but specials where there's no interaction are just not good for the game (missiles, wail, inkstorm) its just not fun to use or fight
Zooka - i like that there are longer range aggro specials, but it needs to be severely adjusted
Bubbler - i like it, it can come back, but maybe make it easier to like position aggressively
Zipcaster - yes, but make it easier - more air time, better ink efficiency things like that so its more approachable, and potentially adjusting it so it could actually work on all weapon classes
Missiles - nuh uh
Ink Storm - yeah, but i want it to feel more impactful (a lightning thing or a mist effect would be cool) i want it back but it needs a level of skill expression or something to make it not bland as a special
Booyah Bomb - Yes! it's well balanced and feels fun and extremely cool. i like Chase's idea too!
Wave Breaker - an adaptation of it, i like that it does recon and damage together it feels cool if it weren't paper thin. Chase's idea is also cool! I think i mainly just want a recon special back somehow
Vac - yes, but make it better. it's fun but it actually has too much counterplay
Wail - no
Inkjet - yes! that thing is so fun
Stamp - unfortunately not, it is fun but it isn't good and feels really annoying and useless and inconsistent. Yes it can come back if its ability to actually block shots comes back. also the lag is no annoying
Crab - yes, it could be fun in another game, but it could be modified to make it feel fresher
Slider - no thanks :)
Strikes - it feels boring, i wouldn't mind it being modified and given more skill expression rather than being default painting and retake special
Cooler - make it non-mandatory and yes, but honestly i don't really like how mandatory specials make the game less fun for support/anchor players :(
Chumps - yes, but i want it to be made more interesting, it has so so much potential
Kraken - iconic, but its super annoying. i think there should be more counterplay than 'jUsT dOdGe iT'. lag also makes it so much worse
Triple Splashdown - Yes! this is fun, but actually make it easier to counter, i often feel like it's too much of a noob stomper special
Screen - actually yes, but change the accessibility effects, but even as a charger main i think its cool to have a line of sight blocker, but also make it better for your teammates - and i like the anti sharking tool it gives, and that should be better
Edit : i think bubble blower should come back - but not with the bomb combo, i didnt play s2 and would love to play it!
Edit 2: i think making slider fully steerable would be very cool, kind of like a baller type thing?, and i dont mind the s1 inkstrike gimmick of using the map, that sounded cool as well!
If you read this thank you very much! Have a great day
Nahhh please don't make bubbler easier to position lmfao that would be horrid
I don't think every special needs to be a mega skill expression type special like zipcaster, inkjet, or zooka. Simple specials benefit the game cuz it let's a kit focus more on the main weapon (ie: long drapid, slosher, z+f)
Also, I haven't watched the video yet, but in a theoretical spot I think that reefslider is a significantly better and significantly healthier of an idea than triple splashdown. Like, just make it have bad startup (so you can't panic button it), lower radius, and super lower or even remove it's endlag and it would be so much more fun than triple splashdown ever was
Zip is weird cuz I feel like if it worked better on short range weapons it would be stupidly annoying.
@@unl3ash3d95 thats a really interesting take
@@m4rcyonstation93 I would be fine with it returning but I really don’t want another meta centered around it and for the bubble blower take, idk I liked it it was a cool little trick u could do to get the bubbles to detonate super fast and added to its versatility.
They need to bring back baller. I feel like all they really need to do is make it a bit faster and give it a bit more hp.
This deserves more likes
Good video but 0:14 OH GOD I REALLY HOPE NOT
THAT WILL BE THE MOST RUSHED THE MOST UNPLAYABLE SPLATOON GAME EVER IF THAT HAPPENS 💀
Zip never got its chance to shine in the meta and in competitive play. I hope it comes back, especially on more synergistic weapons
Some of my thoughts on the specials: (Warning, it’s long)
-I think Big Bubbler being such a simple special is what causes most of its problems.
Curious what your thought are on specials not in S3 maybe coming back for S4
I feel like Booyah Bomb shouldn’t return unless it gets some armor nerfs; in solo queue it’s basically a free panic button with zero punishability.
If reefslider comes back for S4 I'll be the one who won't come back
Who’s ready for quadruple splashdown in splatoon 4?
Ok hear me out
QUADruple Splashdown
You said yourself during the Kraken part that Invincibility is unhealthy for Splatoon. Reefslider has Invincibility. Ergo, it should not return.
As it stands currently, Reefslider has many of the same 'features' as S1 Kraken: *Invincibility*, unreactably fast a 1-shot that most (if not all) weapons can't fight back against, and endlag that can get the user splatted.
Reefslider has a lot of potential alternative paths for how they could change it to be healthier, but in its current state it should *never, ever* come back.
We need a part 2 frfr
If Reefslider comes back, I’m not buying the game. I want to play my tetras in peace
Basically no counter play
ultra stamp + nintendo servers = 🤡 special
I don’t think that big bubble is returning because in every game the “generic protection special” is a new special
As a charger main I hate the splatter screen thing. I know it's supposed to obscure vision but even when someone on my team uses it, it bothers me
Honestly Inwould hate wave breaker coming back even though Range Blaster is my only 5 star because it’s ability to lock down walls really limits map design
Enough to cover a zone but not be able to stall like a normal Booyah Bomb
This gives the Booyah Bomb some sort of skill gap and variety depending on the situation. Do you want a Nuke but may take a while to charge? Or do you want a glorified stamper throw, but you throw it as soon as you pop your special?
