Hey guys, I just realized I mixed up Cooler Edit & Crab Edit LOL, so sorry about that. This was a rushed tierlist because I wanted to get my thoughts out. If you guys want a video on “how to build a comp”, I’m so down to invite a top level player who is very flexible with a lot of weapons to talk about it. Lmk and thanks for the support as always.
Competitive splatoon kinda reminds me of competitive pokemon wherein every weapon/mon can be viable in a ranked or tournament setting as long as you have teammates that can enable it well. Just something I noticed while watching
For now at least. This is a state where the meta is in flux and not very figured out yet, the chances of 1 strategy popping up and keeping anything else from being run is still out there, though I'd say it's pretty unlikely.
Saw youre bluesky post i had some comp splst questions 2 ask ya but i guess theres no real tine. Thank you gor being a great content creator and friendly face for splsttube
One thing to note about Bamboo is just that it has an incredibly good matchup versus a lot of midlines and backlines due to its range+ high mobility to reposition
Yea Bamboo isn’t really a backline despite its really solid range. It wants to be played more aggressively on the midline like squiffer and squeezer especially if you have pencil on your team. If not, it can function as a backline / midline flex.
Yes, but you have to charge it to get that decent damage combo. Plus, in comparison to the other midline, it is more in line with a short-range shooters.
Reminds me a lot from my time in TCGs and CCGs where homebrewing decks was incredibly common and so your approach to getting a cool rare card wasn't "is it viable" but instead "how do I make it viable and do I have the tools to do so" While this vid is about how pencil enables the flexibility in this meta, I just want to add that there are some coolerless comp archetypes running around that make use of some interesting weapons. i wanna highlight coolerless QR comps since they can make use of RPD, Douser dualies (both kits), bamboo mk 2 or even flingza roller without using a pencil or even a strikes weapon in most cases
I think strike is a well designed special but with how spammable it is due to having no cooldown makes it feel super obnoxious to fight. Same with booyah bomb but it’s not as bad mostly due to the weapons it’s on
I’ve been looking for another video like this for a while. I love hearing about folks thoughts about the meta and it’s more of a treat when they know what they’re talking about. The only person I’ve found who does that is Chara. I love his content, but it’s nice to hear someone else’s knowledge and perspective on this topic.
We are lucky to have a weapon like pencil that isn't a shooter. People complain too much about pencil, if it wasn't meta we wouldn't see this fight oriented meta. The real problem is that we don't have other weapons that can enable comps like pencil. If dread, explo, welstring, or dualy squelshers had tacticooler, we would see more comps with different playstyles. The real problems are overtuned specials and short-range weapons spaming them. The devs also like to over nerf non shooters while buffing short-range shooters randomly.
@@GUSplatoon reguarding the backlines, like I said, explo/welstring should have got cooler to enable aoe oriented comps. The other backlines would be more played if we had more weapons like N-Zap. The other chargers are slayers, they fill a different role than pencil. Splatlings are like shooters, if they dont have a good special, they arent played. Hydra is thankfully too slow for any meta, we don't have to experience the horrors of hydra meta. I don't think pencil should be nerfed, its only bs part is having more range than splaterscope. Pencil allow charger players to have a paint and support oriented playstyle. We should however get more weapons like it that fills multiple roles really well; stuff like bp, v splash, dread, flingza, big swig, bows, dually squelchers, etc. But we already have these weapons, the problem is they don't have kits that allow them to play like that or they are severly undertuned/over nerfed. Instead of nerfing pencil and having a similar problem, we should buff/revert the nerf on these weapons. Some weapons like nova or gootuber could be good healthy weapons if they recieved the good buffs Other weapons like swig or reeflux never revealed their true potential because of bad kits. A soda big swig with fizzy/cooler would be good and allow different comps. Overall, no weapon is overpowered (except .52 gal), most weapons are just severly undertuned, and nerfing the fiew ones that aren't undertuned is stupid.
Snipewriter 5H is proving to not be as necessary as this tier list suggests. It’s a safe pick, and it enables weapons exactly how you explained, but the top 4s of recent tournaments have had Wellstring, E-Liter, Heavy Edit, Custom Explosher, Rapid Pro Deco, and more. And then there’s Japanese teams taking 2nd running Vanilla Flingza and Inkbrush Nouveau with no cooler - nobody’s really sure what to make of it.
I think the flingza comp really revolves around tent being there, tent is a very unique weapon in many ways, such that it makes it's own style of comp. Also it ran *triple mines*
Sometime I feel like cooler, strike or zooka is a must thing in comps that limits the game to me At the moment I play H-3 with a charger (that dislike a lot playing pencil) otp like I am having fun that our weapons works together (can we give H-3 a kit part to combo with that isn't wavebreaker) but we need a strike or zooka gun every time but finding short range shooters or buckets user is very difficult (I am talking about mid-high level D4-D3 terretory in France or Belgium) So I am still asking Nintendo to improve kit quality or amount to have more options to play the game Or even making splatoon maps were strike or zooka isn't needed in team comps (I want also to nerf bubble sightly its still bs to try to counter with bomb spam or poking with long range options)
I am finding out that being a splatter shot "Mario" main my kit is goid every where, however after switching to octo shot "Tri Strike" it is not that rounded in every mode compared to the original but it out strength the original in zones and tower.
Can i drool at the sight of splatana stamper Edit: Is it possible to make New Squiffer work without using zipcaster as a weapon to get better angles but as a weapon to aid teammates in a pinch? Is it still possible to work V-Liter into a comp or has cooler made it fade away?
I don’t think wellstring is an alt backline. It kistly uses its partials for splatting, making it play like a midline support.so it would fill in that role in a comp not replace pencil I don’t think
While that is a valid POV, you still wouldn’t pair a Wellstring with another backline because than the comp becomes unbalanced. For example, it would be incredibly rare to see Erito, a known bow player, use Wellstring alongside a pencil. Wellstring will take the sterotypical backline position even if it can flex in the front. Same can be said about pencil. Bagel from starburst can play pencil aggro but still holds that backline positioning for the team.
Not all weapons can work in a solo queue environment. The aerosprays do not work in S+ solo queue, and anyone who has been teamed up with aerosprays know what I mean. It’s like being in a constant 3.5v4.
Reefslider is a good counter special but I guess in a meta of cooler, tri strikes and zooka, it can't counter much. Good against bubbler and can catch zooka after they activate it. Would be so much better if it destroyed cooler. Still decent enuff for zones. The weapons reefslider is on have glaring weaknesses. Maybe a Splattershot with reefslider would be op
i think for jet squelcher in the last tier, even if pencil wasn't meta, it wouldn't work in this game. the kits are just not good enough to take fights, dart is cool on vjet but vac brings it down. just regular vac issues of not being able to cancel out early, and a bunch weapons/specials in the game can completely bypass vac's protection to the user... cjet's kit also doesn't do a whole lot for it, ig its area control but not as good as other weapons can do. rain's chip+paint is really good for jet, but then mist is kinda just ... there ... i honestly wish vjet&cjet's subs were swapped
so like random question, why does comp rn only play zones? is it bcs its the best mode? or is it because theres just literally no other good enough maps in the other modes? or theres so little that it might as well be zones only
There’s a lot of reasons but from my POV: 1. It is the majority of comp players preferred mode 2. Map variety is higher compared to other mode. There are arguably more good zone maps than non-good zones map 3. It’s the most neutral in terms of playstyle where the majority of playstyles can be ran. Unlike tower which has special primarily spammy playstyles or rainmakers fast/stall heavy comps, zones at least all playstyles to open up.
Other reasons are rainmaker its really steamrolly cause of cooler or you cant push cause cooler player pics rain therefore no cooler in the next minute. Tower, stronger passive charge for attackers, means more cooler means even more steamrolly than already is. Clams, you cant push cause you die a lot (cause cooler) means you lose a lot of clams therefore you have like no clams to score, means push already dead. Also less comp combos, Like high mobility needed in rain so smt like range dies, tower is aoe favored so range would be top tier and clams doesnt give you lde at all so lde depending weapons die there
Zone is just balanced, Cause gives you lde Fighting weapons are strong Painting weapons have their place Dps and aoe isnt dominent You can be a fast and slow paced weapon And def others that i forgot
For a game that has over 130 different weapons, including Order weapons, it's sad that someone has to be forced to play 1 for the sake of the "meta." Even if you don't wanna use Pencil, one person is then forced to use 2 others just for Cooler because the other 4 are unviable. It makes the game not fun for the Cooler person imo. It also makes comp boring to watch. This is one reason why I despise this Cooler meta. While you can argue there's frontline diversity, there's no Playstyle and Backline diversity. You argue for people to try different fighting weapons, but unfortunately no significant amount of people will because of "meta." I really want to see people pushing for underused weapons at a high level. In competitive Pokemon, 2014 was considered peak because of the world champion's unorthodox use of one Pokemon often seen as competitively unviable to fill in a role. People will still talk about it to this day. 2015 and on introduced Pokemon that are basically a must (CHALK, Primals, etc.) and it got boring. And unfortunately, Cooler meta is basically that.
I do acknowledge at the end that frontline diversity exists at the expense of backline diversity. I’m not denying that but do say there are a handful of backlines that can make it work.
@@GUSplatoon can make it work? Yes! I would love to see backline diversity. I would love to see play-style diversity. I'd even love to see a backless comp too.
