  • So you only have $75 to buy a subwoofer amplifier and while browsing Amazon, you come across this brand you have never heard of before, Ignite Audio. They have an amp promising 4000 watts Peak for the low, low price of $75 shipped. This can't be real! I thought there may be a few thousand of you out there who had the same question as me...what does this amp actually do? I took the dive and purchased the amp and put together what I hope is a thorough review. Check it out!

      BigDWiz Hey man big D, what a nice find!! A question are you going to test some more pioneer stuff in the future?? I have my eyes on the pioneer prs-d800 want to buy three of them for active three way front stage...but i wouldn’t just be interested in the power but also quality of signal and distortion...Is it in anyway possible to test one of these?? I see in the states they are pretty cheap in comparison to europe...here they are almost 450 dollars

    Wow this literally blew my mind! I'm still running my old school sound stream reference 500s high current amp. after all these years it still works However it is made in the USA with a mil spec circuit board and huge caps. Still im super impressed by the ignite for 75 bucks!! Unbelievable!!

      Caps dry out when they're not used so if you've been running it all this time, makes sense it would still be working. Sitting them in storage for extended periods of time can be a problem.

      @@wal Heck yea man! Of course it adds value. Knowing the actual distortion figures would be great. You could tell us that, and just show a quick shot of the square wave. That would definitely add value IMO. I would most certainly pick the amp that has a better square wave, and THD, if it were a dramatic difference. And everything else was fairly equal. I've been seeing for years on forums that the cheap amps are no good, because they have higher distortion. Let's find out about that BigD! 😁

    a/d/s/ was phenomenal back in the day. A friend of mine gave me his 1990s a/d/s/ 6” fronts to use, and to my ears, nothing can compare. I forget about the specs and the tweaks and the tests, and just enjoy the music.

    This kinda reminds me of a Power Acoustic ov2 1600 I got for "free" from Summit Racing for $100 Summit Bucks (amp was $100 at the time) I had left over in 2002~. Used it as a cheap back up amp on/off over the years, bridged, with zero problems (never gone into protect, never popped a fuse; have seen my higher-end old school XM Sony's run hot enough to cook eggs then eventually die running same subs while this guy just keeps going) then one day a few years ago thought why not, and tried 2.67 ohm bridged to power 3 subs to give it a proper send off, and well, it's still kicking somehow. Doesn't even run hot either due to it's length. When compared side by side years back to a Crossfire VR600 bridged on one sub, this PA amp on BMF 12" identical sub (4ohm bridged), it was similar in power but had less braking control of the sub vs. the CF.
    Regardless, sometimes you get a good a deal for very little, and this "Ignite" (RIP a/d/s) looks like a similar deal. Can't believe they put the real wattage numbers in print on the manual. Was completely expecting it to be 50-100w below each rating.

    Dude, thanks for the suggestion. Bought this amp for a single old Rockford P1 I had laying around. I had three old 10s in a dual box that I spilt into single boxes to fit in my boat cubby holes. Was looking for a cheapo amp for these cheap old speakers, didn't want to spend a bunch on the old boat. For $109 this thing is awesome. Time will tell. Just running one 4 ohm channel for now, I am sure that PLENTY of power for that old sub. Keep up the good work man. The old thing I did not like about the amp was the crappy power and ground connections. Other than that good cheap power.

    I think contests like this are fun, despite my previous comment, but there should be more community involved. It would have been pretty smart to have reached out to various car audio shops in different cities that could act as 'judges' so that a quality SPL meter could be shared. When I worked for Ultimate Electronics, we would do SPL tests and spectrum tests for free to our customers...because they would be buying stuff from us (hopefully) to improve their systems. That quick and simple service boosted our sales and created friendships and community. Those things are now vacant with the advent of Amazon/Ebay/intenet etc....

    I'm guessing others may say this but the 4000 watt figure is probably a PMPO measurement which is completely useless. In the early 2000's it seemed like every single set of cheap powered computer speakers and cheap CD/tape/AM/FM stereo unit out there plastered huge PMPO wattage figures on them. The amp might actually be able to put out 4000 watts, but only for a microsecond when the power caps start to discharge. It's a 100% meaningless rating, but bigger numbers look good to the uninformed. That's why I'm glad you and others like you put amps on the dyno to show us the REAL power! :)

    I had commented on this amp a while back. After abusing it in my wrangler for a year I hooked it up in my grand cherokee to 3 of the Wal-Mart blaupunkt 12 inch. I used a prefab 3 hole sub enclosure that was 1.2 cubic ft per sub. All I can say is WOW. Between the box, amp, and woofers I'm around the 200 dollar mark.

My PDX-5 channel makes 1001 watts, draws about the same current and is half the size with built-in 12 db crossover.

    Been watching a bunch of these dyno test (Thank You) especially ones showing the amp draw. I calculated efficiency to be about 62% at max into clipping. But carefully watching the video I was able to extrapolate efficiency at other power 50% and 75%, which is much higher around 80%. I've seen videos of several amps and it appears they all suck in the efficiency approaching clipping. But do much better at 50 and 75%. There are exceptions so far is the pioneer and dual mono blocks are efficient upto clipping.

    Can you explain in a video what are the difference of a cheap amp like this one that does its rated power, compared to a JL audio or rockfordfosgate!! why the big price difference even if they do there rated power? How can you tell if it is quality or not other then by just the price.

    • @wal
      @wal  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      JL and RF use much more aluminum and higher quality components. They also use uniquely engineered designs, not cookie cutter ones like this.

    • @wizzkidelectronics
      @wizzkidelectronics 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And on top of what he said gennerally youll find much better designed power supplys mosfets ran at no more than 50% of ratings . This generally shows up in efficiency . As mosfets get pushed close to saturation the current goes up exponentaly especially once supply regulators push on time pulse width past 60%
      Other ratings the amp dyno cannot test is dapening factor witch is no big deal in a sub amp but is huge in multi channel amps ran on highs . Shows up as a type of crossover distortion . As it can create a phase shift on non driven chanels

    • @balisongsnbeats.9219

      reliability, a cheap amp could ruin the speakers hooked up to it even if the speakers are rated higher than the amp. I had a $100 Audiopipe amp putting out 1500 RMS and had $700 subs hooked up to it rated at 2000RMS. Amp went out and sent straight DC offset voltage to the subs and cooked the voice coils out on them. They were discontinued subs too :/

    • @jasonspink1981
      @jasonspink1981 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's ALL about money 🙄. You can add up all the parts in almost any amp and never get past 50-60$ for name brands. An infineon mosfet only cost 2$ for me to buy, even less for a bulk purchaser, name brand caps are less than 1$. Circuit boards in name bands are made in China, so are chinese amp boards 🤷‍♂️. Engineering cost has very little to do with this. It's the cost of labor more so. Buy this amp, pull out the cheap caps and buy some nice high temp name brands. Replace the knockoff fets with name brand and enjoy your system knowing you're smarter than the idiot buying a 1000watt amp for 400$+

  • @nukedathlonman
    @nukedathlonman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes, I hope they do remove the 4000W label, the sooner the better... Glad to see the protection tripped as well. Caught me off guard, and I can't/won't knock it. But yes, I remember a/d/s, so I shouldn't be surprised (even if the components used are of a more questionable quality)... Then again, I am surprised given the history of some other notable amplifier titans of the 80/90's (Lanzar brand being one that springs to mind - how I miss Zed built amps)....
