    Hey
    I'm 23 and from the Los Angeles, CA area from a dysfunctional household. I'm working to break the poverty cycle, and to find a older woman who enjoys cooking on TH-cam is comforting. Currently have some lentils here, and I am a good boy who went to college and I just want to say THANK YOU for showing young Andrew boy this. He really appreciates your love and compassion, something my Mom lacks a lot of.

    Happy New Year Beautiful🎉 I made several cups of white rice and it dawned on me the lack of nutritional value compared to brown rice and lentils. So as I'm washing dishes I became hungry and remembered I had pounds of lentils in the pantry. Yet, the package did not have directions on how to cook. So I researched on TH-cam and you were the 1st recommended video📹 Your recipe is absolutely yummy😋 I made some mashed potatoes and it was a home run!!! Thank You💜

    This is perfect. I've fallen on hard times and had to get food from a local food pantry. In the box, I was given, was a bag of lentils as well as a bag of rice. I've never had lentils so I have no clue what to do with them but I have to feed myself so I turned to TH-cam for a recipe and came across this. I still don't know what lentils taste like but I can't be picky right now. I love rice and I love onions so I'm going to give this a try for my dinner. It really sucks to be so low on funds that a person can't afford to feed themselves without help but thank God for a pantry called Gleaners, that not only will help anyone but if you don't have transportation to their pantry, will deliver a box to your door. I fell and broke my foot the middle of September and required some extension surgery to put my foot back together. I broke all 5 metatarsal bones. I'm just now able to walk. I haven't been able to drive so having the food delivered has definitely been a blessing. This looks so good I can hardly wait to give it a go. I like food that's on the spicy flavorful side so I think this will be real good with a dash of cayenne pepper and a few other full flavor spices I haven't decided on just yet. I'm going to just see how it tastes when it's done and go from there. I appreciate videos like this because without them I would be totally lost for what to do with this big bag of lentils. I pray I like the flavor of them since I have no choice but to eat them. Wish me luck and God bless 🙏🧡

    • @CookingLessonsforDad
      @CookingLessonsforDad  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi. I am so sorry you broke your foot. I broke my right foot a few years ago, so I know how it feels (Well, I only broke one metatarsal, so it's not quite the same). I couldn't work or drive either. I love lentils, and they are very easy to cook. I think you should cook the recipe as is the first time so you know how they taste without extra seasonings. After that, you will get some good ideas of what extra seasonings you want to add. Lentils are also good on potatoes. Let me know how your lentils turn out.

Then, I take it out of the IP & clean the IP & add chopped onion, mushrooms & saute a few mins with oil or water & then add, garlic, nutrition yeast, grated sweet potato, then, I add kombu broth, S& P to it. You can add whatever, you like to eat as, .I have a lot of food allergies so, I have food restrictions. Good Luck! 😊😊

    one question please. If we need to make lentils to stuff sambosa. Should we keep 3 to 1 ration water to lentils. If we would like to add spices. Which spice you recommend?

    • @CookingLessonsforDad
      @CookingLessonsforDad  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would keep the water the same. If you are going to bake the lentils after you cook them on the stove I would under cook them a bit. I would try the lentils without any extra seasoning the first time you make them. If you want to add more seasoning on your second batch I would add some garlic. Also taco seasoning is delicious. Lentils are very versatile. You can experiment with lots of different seasonings. Let me know how your lentils turn out.

    isn't it better to add the salt after they soften? Salt or acidic juices will take them longer to soften if you add the salt too early? Nevertheless, great recipe, glad I found your video. Thank you for sharing. (EDIT: I may have added a bit too much salt too fyi, maybe just need to throw in more water, I'm gonna check them, thx again for sharing)

    • @CookingLessonsforDad

      With beans you should add salt at the end of cooking but that is not necessary with lentils. Lentils do cook very quickly compared with beans. Even so you can add the salt whenever you prefer. And adjust the salt to your taste. I hope your lentils are delicious!

    • @CookingLessonsforDad
      @CookingLessonsforDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes but orange lentils cook much faster since they are smaller. The first time you make them check them very early to make sure they do not get overcooked and mushy.

    Great recipe but to make it a complete meal it needs some type of meat or fish to be added. What do you suggest?

    • @CookingLessonsforDad
      @CookingLessonsforDad  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For a vegetarian, the lentils with rice, potatoes or quinoa would be the main course. For meat eaters, I would pair it with chicken, fish or steak. Grilled, roasted, or baked chicken pairs well with lentils. You can season the chicken with herbs and spices that complement the flavor of the lentils, such as thyme, garlic, or paprika. I would also consider Salmon. Pan-seared or baked salmon is a healthy and flavorful option to serve with lentils.

    • @CookingLessonsforDad
