EPISODE 16 - Borderland Big Lap of Australia
The Oodnadatta Track - Part 2/2
Welcome to Part 2/2 of our Oodnadatta Track adventure. One of the most iconic 4WD tracks and outback road trips this country has to offer. It's 620 kms of unsealed roads through the rugged and remote landscape of South Australia, and it's a trip that should be on everyone's bucket list! In our last episode, we left Coober Pedy and saw an epic sunset at the painted desert. We stopped in at the famous Pink Roadhouse at Oodnadatta to fuel up and air down before hitting the track. The start of this track was nothing short of incredible - we camped under the stars at some incredible outback campsites at Algebuckina Bridge and Coward Springs, explored ruins and remnants of the Old Ghan railway and stopped in at William creek. If you haven't seen Part 1, make sure you check it out.

In this episode, we continue the journey from Coward Springs and find some incredible but unusual sights in the middle of the desert - the Mutonia Sculpture Park is the last thing you'd expect to find out here! Lake Eyre - Australia's largest inland salt lake gets ticked off our list, and we stop in at 'The Bubbler' - a natural artesian spring. We then journey on to the pristine and remote Parachilna Gorge in the Flinders Ranges. This is outback camping and 4WDing at it's very best!

Great videos guys, always refreshing to see another travel couple interested in showcasing the beauty of the country without clickbait drama! Oodnadatta track is on our bucket list for when we get home to Aus! New subscribers 🤙🏼
Love your style guys. We are supposed to be heading that way in a few weeks with goal of seeing water in Lake Eyre but all the roads have just closed due to the rain. Looking like a change of plans will be needed. Same as there will be lots of water but won’t get to it. Thanks again for your high quality genuine content we love it.
Another great video guys! How cool is the sculpture park!
We just done the track. Blew my back windscreen out 20kms out from the Pink Roadhouse. The dude there was extremely helpful.
Oh man that’s such a bummer!! How did you find the condition of the track? We filmed this a couple of months ago before all that rain and it looked like it was getting quite chopped up after we left. They’re great at the Pink Roadhouse though hey 😀
Oh no, what’s caused the blow out?
@@spectrumproductions A rock flung off the back of the Camper Trailer. It was like a dust storm in side
@BorderlandExplorers We loved it. It was like a freeway from Marla to Oodnadatta. Then progressively got worse from Oodnadatta to William Creek, then William Creek to Marree
What a cool road trip! Loved part 1 and 2 guys!! So keen for the next video
Thank you for watching! We’re stoked that you enjoyed them. Such a good trip 😀
Thanks for sharing your journey looking forward to seeing your next episode
No worries and thank you so much for watching! 😀😀
Loved the drone work, amazing landscapes, sunsets and colours.
Parachilna Gorge - we've got to go there.
Cool way to start a 🔥
Thank you!! 😀. It’s a great spot to get drone shots. No dramas taking your off-road van around Parachilna and the Flinders either.
The little firestarter is the best! We think it you every time we use it 😀
You could almost rachet strap the fuel jerry to the inside of your ladder if it's strong enough.
That’s actually a really good idea - thank you!
I don’t think the inside of ladder will have any issues holding a 20kg Jerry at all - the rear canopy walls have solid reinforcement for those accessories on the back. Cheers for the idea and thanks for watching!
Curious, how do you go with condensation in the RTT... you are probably the best to ask given the amount of time you have been living in one now...
Thanks for another great video guys. I'm setting a tourer similar to yours with a rooftop tent, and noticed you use your Maxtrax for levelling your car. Is that generally all you need or do also need some higher levelling ramps? Cheers Gaz
No worries and thank you for watching! 😀. Yep we only ever use maxtrax for levelling and that’s all we’ve found that we need. We carry 4, and do use all 4 sometimes. I don’t think it’s worth trying to squeeze in extra levelling ramps if you’re short on space!
@@BorderlandExplorers Awesome thank you so much
Where did you park to see the lake? Were you close to the track or a fair way off?
I’m doing the track in a couple of weeks towing a camper trailer and I’ve heard mixed reports on how best to see the lake
That’s awesome, you’ll love the trip! We have only ever stopped at the carpark that’s RIGHT on the Oodnadatta Track - it’s literally next to the track. That’s where this footage is from. We have seen that turn off that runs to a more northern part of the Lake (looks like it runs along the Western side of the Lake in a Northbound direction) but we haven’t done it and aren’t too sure what kind of condition it’s typically it. Would be interesting to see what it looks like from there though!
@@BorderlandExplorers and it’s ok to put the drone up?
We are supposed to be heading that way too similar time but all the roads in the area just closed. We are now looking at plan b as they may not open in time. The SA government has a great website for the roads worth checking it out.
@@filthyoffroadadventures I have accommodation booked at Wilpena next weekend, I’ll get that far and play it by ear
@@toddavis8151 awesome. Enjoy your trip it’s amazing out there.
