WE DID THE CAPE! Episode 1 of our Big Lap of Australia is here! Thanks for stopping by to check out our trip up the Old Telegraph Track - taking the new DMAX straight to one of the most hectic tracks in the country had us pretty nervous 🤣. Don't forget to like and subscribe if you enjoyed watching, or share it with a mate who might like it too - it really helps us! Have an awesome day, and feel free to let us know your thoughts on the trip in the comments below 😀
Showed that to the whole family on the big theatre room set up. Magical, and can't wait to get out there and do it. Been on the bucket list for a while but you captured it so well. Congratulations!
That's so cool, what a massive compliment! Thank you - we love hearing stuff like that - it's very humbling, Thanks so much for watching and we hope the fam enjoyed it :)
Thanks so much! So glad you liked it 😊 yes we highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed!! Do you have a rig at the moment that you’d be looking at taking on the track if you went?
Well done guys another great video, good decision too with the new rig to look after it and go around. We did the Tele track in 2020 it was interesting to see how its changed, for example the chicken route at Gunshot was easy with no risk of damage and palm creek wasn't that bad either back then I did it with no damage. We are really keen to see how your canopy goes with water or dust ingress. After seeing your canopy build video, we went down to MRT at Yatala and spent the bit extra for the X-series (1650 on chassis) for the new dual cab it and the new 4WD are on order, hopefully have both by December fingers crossed. We'll be visiting the guys at the Lawnton Pedders too once its built. Have fun up there, one thing I took away was that photos or videos never do justice to how beautiful the water falls up there really are.
Thanks so much! Really appreciate you watching 😊 that’s really interesting to hear how much it’s changed in a few years… a few people mentioned to us that there would be a fairly easy chicken track at gunshot if we needed it so we were definitely expecting that - but yeah they all just seemed really bad to us and would definitely cause damage. Too much travelling to do and too much hard work gone into this car to smash it up in the first couple of weeks 🤣 we are happy with you decision. And yes.. tried our be eh best to do it justice but you’re right - 10x more beautiful in person. The seals on the canopy doors have been really great, no dust or red dirt has gotten in even after weeks spent on those roads 👍 really excited to hear about your build! I’m sure the canopy will look absolutely great on your rig! What are you planning on getting done at pedders? :) we had a great experience with the guys are Lawnton!
Cheers for watching!! Honestly we were super happy with how the canopy and car handled the track hey ! There’s definitely some weight on the vehicle for sure haha (thank goodness for GVM upgrades right). It’s always tricky keeping that weight low and not overhanging the rear axle too much- within the current setup we are running we definitely tried to arrange our weight throughout the car and up top as best we could before hitting this track :)
Sorry for the delayed reply mate. We only ended up doing half the northern track due to time constraints but what we did do wasn't too different in terms of conditions to the south section in the video. We spoke to a few others at the time who did the north section in its entirety as well - they said Nolans crossing was still the most difficult crossing but at that time of year most people were doing it without any major trouble. Water levels are definitely a lot lower July/Aug when we were there.
Banger guys! Such a well produced video. Loved the drone and b roll. Loved the tension and adventure. Loved how you try and drive a 4wd on a road with a few bumps. How did you get the Coldplay tune licenced?! Great video guys as always. Can't wait to see where you're going next!
Thank you bro! We tried to avoid all those bumps but it just didn’t work out 😅😂. Cheers for watching too. And Coldplay track was licensed through Lickd 😀
Thank you, yeah we pondered it for a while and obviously decided against it. Even videos we watched from 21-22 looked like there were better entrances than when we got there - they were all hectic this year! Anyway. It’s still a bucket list thing to do in a 4x4 for us - so maybe another time when we aren’t needing to live out of the car for the next year haha. We don’t feel like we missed much by not doing it - the cape now has a very fond place in our hearts and we can’t wait to go back 😀
It’s definitely more than capable! There were a lot of people turning around that day though lol. Didn’t any to risk smashing something this early in the trip 😀

*our decision
Well done guys 🔥 Great video! We’ll definitely keep the Old Tele Track for last 😅
Thanks guys! Yeah was definitely daunting doing it first up 😂😂
Fantastic video guys so well done!!! Making us want to do the cape again 👌🏼👌🏼
Thank you!! Yesss can we come!? 😁
How’s the canopy going? Rig looked a bit top heavy on some those off cambers

How were the track conditions for the northern section that you did?
We have a MUX with usual mods, AT’s, upgraded suspension, winch etc.
Great video!

Amazing video guys!!! 👌👌👌
Thank you!! 😁
Hey guy's, great capture of the track. What time of the year did you do this?
Hey! Thank you 😀. We did it in late early September this year (2023)
Wow enjoy the Cape .. are you use Diff locker on rear or normal ?
Thanks! 😀. Yep we have a factory rear diff locker on the DMAX and we used it a bit throughout the track. No front lockers on ours though

@@BorderlandExplorers loved every second of it!
No shame in not attempting Gunshot in your touring rig/home
I did it in 19 and again in 20 and it is looking even more scary now

Who keeps "maintaining' it?
The Dmax would do Palm and Gunshot easier than the 105 aye
It’s definitely more than capable! There were a lot of people turning around that day though lol. Didn’t any to risk smashing something this early in the trip 😀
We only said that comment because the 105 was 25 years old and we didn’t really care what damage was done to it 😂😅
Alls I am gunna say it the looks on your faces says it all 😏
Great vid guys!!
@@wayneheath7392 thank you!! :)
Should have got some lessons from @madmatt before you left
Wish he was there!! 😂😂
Soooooo gutted
That’s because everyone else drives gunshot
