Join us for Part 4 of our Victorian High Country mini-series: part of our Borderland Big Lap of Australia.
In this episode, we make our way up Blue Rag Range - one of the most iconic and spectacular tracks in Australia. A bucket list 4x4 track for many, the remote Blue Rag Range Track splits off from Dargo High Plains Road and sees you traversing your 4x4 up epic steep climbs and descents that lead to the Blue Rag Range Trig point. This is a must-do trip for 4WD enthusiasts that incorporates breathtaking views of the Alpine National Park and surrounds, combined with challenging but exhilarating four-wheel-driving.
We cap off the episode with a hard earned beverage and an enormous parmy at the iconic Dargo Hotel.

Stop naming places, enjoy for yourselves but don’t tell the world
Love the build and the videos is there much more noise with the red back exhaust? Cheers
Took the scenic route 😁
Nice rig guys more than basic but epic all the same ❤🇦🇺🙏cairns
Nice guys haven’t heard of a few of those spots will add them to my list. ❤ thanks for sharing new subscriber Like ur stuff Thanks guys
How's the microwave going? Can you see what the MW is drawing on startup and then running? Thinking of doing something similar and the battery and inverter specs you went with are the same as I had in mind. Thanks
It's been awesome! We use it pretty much every day now, and we're glad we did it. We didn't hook it up through the shunt, so we can't actually see what it's drawing accurately - however we wouldn't mind changing the wiring so we can see more. The 2000W inverter and Remco 150ah Lithium handle it really well though. We mainly just use it to re-heat food. I'd guess an average of 5 mins running time per day in total.
Hey guys, just found you're channel recently and been enjoying watching you're episodes. A great mix of talking, videoing and droning. You obviously put a lot of time and effort into each video and don't feel the need to have ridiculous thumbnails. Even the music is at a good level where you don't have to turn it down each time it comes on! Kudos, keep up the good work. it's appreciated.
Thanks for the lovely feedback! We appreciate you checking out the videos and are glad you are enjoying them :) We always try super hard to do each of these spots justice… always so hard to convey how awesome some of these locations are on camera hey 😊
Hiya guys, great work! We are very close to ordering this very same unit but questioning whether we need the extra height option (930 vs 1070mm) Which option did you run with to accomodate the upright fridge? Cheers and thx.
Hey, thank you! 😀. That’s awesome - ours has been great, no regrets here. We went with the standard 930 height. Being a chassis mount with flush floors (rather than seperate tray and canopy where you have to build the floor up for the fridge door to clear the bottom lip of the canopy) the height of the 930 allows for a 130L Bushman fridge. Just double check with MRT with regard to the Ute you’re fitting, but I’m pretty sure this is the case across the whole range of X-Series chassis mount canopies
@@BorderlandExplorers 🙏
Great content and quality of video and film is amazing 🎉
Thank you! We really appreciate that 😀😀
😂 won guy is how it sounds 😊
Wong eye😊
Thanks! :)
😊
In the 80's it was all free, and less tourists 😊 miss the good old days😢
Love the high country and glad to see you guys enjoying it. btw, it How not Hoo when pronouncing Howqua
Thanks for watching 😁 definitely love this area! Haha thank you will remember that from now on
In Victoria, it’s Parma
This seems to be the consensus 😁
Great video and beautiful spot. Did you see other people at the waterfalls because there was definitely someone watching you standing back in the distance near the end of the vid.
Thanks so much! We definitely loved this spot for sure. There were a couple of people coming and going when we were there yeah 😊
Well presented. X
Thanks so much 😊 appreciate you checking the video out
Something different is the wildflower season in the mid west, late August. Karara Rangelands.
Great suggestion! We love the wild flower season, would be very keen to explore that area some time 😊
Does it have another couple of recovery points underneath the tow bar?
Loving the videos guys, very entertaining and informative. I'm in the process of setting up my own D-Max and have a lot of questions. But the one I will ask here is, with your uhf antenna on the roof rack, where did you run the cable in to the cab?
Sorry for the late reply mate! 😀. We ran the cable from the roof, down the side of the windscreen (through some D-cell foam tube that’s stuck to the windscreen to keep it tidy), then through the firewall into the passenger footwell, and then into the centre console area where the UHF’s box is mounted out of sight. The coax cable that the UHF comes with is pretty long - more than enough to do what we did.
I did Blue rag just before last Easter photos and videos don’t do this track justice a must do
Such an awesome track hey! 😊 Agreed - photos and videos definitely don’t do it justice at all
Loved the series , will be down there in July very helpful in choosing places and tracks to go ..
Thanks so much for checking the videos out 😊 awesome - glad they were helpful! We had such a blast in this whole area - hope you enjoy your trip as well!
How is the MRT canopy treating you guys? Is it sealed well?
It’s been amazing….we’re so happy with it. The dust seals are absolutely spot on - they’re legit better than the seals on the actual car. We just did the Oodnadatta Track and it’s the finest dust we’ve come across, and not a speck got through the canopy seals.
Same goes for water, never had any get in the canopy with both pressure washing and heavy rain.
Just found your channel, really enjoyed your journey.through the high country, some of the best filming I've seen , can't wait to get my new Ford Ranger in July and do some of the tracks you guys did , keep up the good work ,cheers Graeme
Thanks so much! Glad you liked the videos 😊 you are going to absolutely love taking the ranger through the high country! Honestly one of our favourite spots in the whole country. Hope you have an awesome trip!
Not sure about a few things. The winch - how do you know it is well made? Until you see a winch in bits you can't really know how it is constructed and the grade of materials used - but maybe you have? And the snorkel. Yes needed if you are doing deep crossings. But the dirty/dusty air thing is really a bit of tale. Having spent long periods off road I am yet to see any evidence that this is true and in fact fine particles tend to rise and they are the worst when they get into your air system. Also, pushing air through a tube with bends is highly inefficient as per simple physics. Maybe this is more a sales pitch the manufacturers run? Anyhoo, have you used the winch many times and has it held up on heavy long pulls? How is the bull bar faring?
Thanks for checking out the video! We have been really happy with all the barwork on the DMAX since having it installed for our big lap. The winch has definitely suited our needs so far and has performed without issue in the situations we have had to use it for :)
I've been to Blue Rag, in varying weather spectrums. I've seen a LOT of other "content creators" go and film their Blue Rag excursions. But honestly you two take the cake. The filming, the drone angles, the music and just sheer attitude throughout your presentations is amazing. Love your stuff!
Thank you! :) We really appreciate you checking out the video and are glad we could do this place justice in our filming... especially since you've visited multiple times and really know this spot. Its a pretty incredible track. Thanks again for watching!
Its a nice drive up Basalt Knob track from Talbotville
Thanks for the tip! We haven't tried that track yet but we will add it to the list :)
Its pretty much at the crooked River Track when u leave talbotville, the first section can be a bit hairy, but u can take brewery ck track, near the crooked River exit from talbotville heading back to Billy goats direction, it links back up and away u go.
We’ve just come back from Blue Rag and certainly have caught it like it has never been seen before…thick, thick fog. 😂 Cleared a bit in the morning to let us know how steep the sides were though.
Ohh no bummer! 😂. Yeah we’ve seen quite a few videos where it gets like that - I think we were a bit lucky to have excellent visibility. Would be quite a different experience in heavy fog I can imagine! 😀
Another epic episode you guys ROCK!!!!!!!!!😂😂
😀😀😀 thank you so much! We’re stoked that you’re enjoying the episodes
You're editing just keeps getting more amazing, so well done guys!
Thank you very much guys! 😀😀
All ways has been all ways will be Bloody Parmi. Just a bit of feed back ol mate didn't hesitate towing that Prado cause there wasn't anything to hesitate for. I understand everyone's experience levels and confidence levels are different but you guys are making out like majority of VHC is hard. Majority of the iconic VHC tracks can be done in a stock standard dual can ute no lockers no fancy traction aids or down hill decent obviously wether permitting. I think you need to get out with some experienced people and lift your confidence levels. Not a dig just some feed back especially when your commenting on a public forum. Before any one asked 20yrs not much I haven't done
But am enjoying the series
😂😂 I (Matt) have always run with ‘parmi’ as well. And yeah for sure - I guess it’s all relative to experience level and whether you’ve done a certain track before. Most of these are firsts for us . We certainly don’t want to give people that impression that you need a huge lift and enormous tyres to do these tracks though - you can most definitely get out there with a stock setup. Thanks heaps for watching, and glad you enjoyed them otherwise 😀.
@@BorderlandExplorers plz don't think im being nasty. The biggest thing I face when taking groups of friends out us the better half in the relationship is all nervous and skittish cause shes watched a TH-cam video and the presenters have portrayed it to be extremely nerve racking but don't exactly disclose there experience level as such. So then I have to calm them down by telling there yes there is always risk in 4wd but wat we are tackling on this trip will not be that bad if u follow. Thanks for the reply guys hope your haveing fun
@@timmoss1481 not at all, that makes sense! We definitely want to encourage people of all experience and comfort levels to get out there and have a crack :)
Wow enjoy the Cape .. are you use Diff locker on rear or normal ?
Thanks! 😀. Yep we have a factory rear diff locker on the DMAX and we used it a bit throughout the track. No front lockers on ours though
I just finished watching your 4 part series and wow! It was awesome. Can’t wait to see what you have in the works, now subscribed.
Thanks so much for checking out the videos - we genuinely really appreciate it! We've got some cool spots we are planning to visit once we leave the High Country as well and definitely planning to keep filming. Thanks for subscribing :)
WOW! You guys have done Blue Rag and the Dargo Pub parmies justice!!!! Amazing video as always capturing these places for all of us to enjoy your adventures :)
Thank youuu!! <3 Glad we did it justice, especially knowing you've been to all these spots as well!
Two best looking people in VHC. Living the dream! Love the content
😆 Thanks! Nothing we'd rather be doing than exploring epic spots like this. Really glad you're enjoying the content, we appreciate you checking our videos out :)
Beautiful! Those heli shots are wild
Thank you! :)
Hats off to you guys, don’t think I’d have the bottle to do that. Awesome footage
Thanks so much! Honestly its a great track and not super hard/technical, a pretty spectacular spot to experience... just maybe not if you you're afraid of heights 😝 Thanks again for watching!
Magical country, thankyou😊
It really is! Thanks so much for watching :)
Wow! Simply amazing footage.
Thanks so much! Really appreciate you checking this one out :)
Great drone work there👌 I was up there last month, such a great spot.
Thanks so much! We knew we wouldn't be able to do this place justice without that drone. Agreed - such a great spot hey. Thanks for checking the video out :)
Magic time of day to be up there 👍 Awesome and unique drone footage . Congrats.
Thank you very much, and thanks for watching! We were definitely blessed with the clearest day ever - it was beautiful the whole way 😀
Another Great Episode from you two. The scenery was amazing. Photography and drone shots were excellent. Luckily for you the weather was good also.
Thank you so much - we really enjoyed filming this. And yes! We were stoked to have such a good day for it - I’ve seen plenty of videos where the fog has rolled in and the visibility looked challenging 😀.
As always epic content, senary thanks for sharing
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 😀. It’s a ripper spot and we loved it there
Hola 👋 como andas bien 👍 😀😘😘😘👏👏 yo FACEBOOK Leonardo gonzales Leonardo gonzalez 😀😘😘👋
Hola! 👋
Awesome ep guys. Just found ya but already watched 3 straight eps. Loving the footage especially the drone stuff. As a smaller TH-cam creator I’m really taking inspiration from your work. The way you captured Blue Rag was sensational. Some bigger productions can’t even do that. Keep it up and looking forward to more eps in my favourite part of the world. Oh by the way it’s PARMA’s🤣
Thanks so much for checking out some of our videos! You're very kind, and honestly that feedback is really appreciated. We always set out to try to capture these epic spots the best we can and its nice to know we are somewhat doing these areas justice :) Just checked out your page as well - some great videos there, have subscribed! I tried to leave a comment on one of them but it wouldn't let me - in your video "First Father Daughter Campout in 3 yrs | Walhalla Region Nov 2022" how did you create that map towards the end? Its a really cool feature!
😆 Parmas it is
@@BorderlandExplorers always happy to leave feedback where it is due. And thanks for subscribing. Appreciate that. The video at the end with the google map tracking our path is called Relive. U turn it on to record your path using your phone and then any pics u take or vids u take on your phone can be added generally automatically to their point of taking them. If you subscribe to their app u get more music options and more photos can be added. Worth checking out as it gives such a great overall view of your trip. Hope that helps. Cheers
There is an awesome little camp across a river at the end of blue rag track! Great video guys
We were told about that spot by a few people on the track that day actually - we didn't end up getting there to check it out but wish we had. Might just have to go back and do it again! Thanks so much for checking out the. video - really glad you liked it :)
Fantastic drone footage guys
Thank you very much! We had heaps of fun filming it 😀
Looked like a great day ouy thanks for sharing :)
A super memorable day out on the tracks for sure :) Really loved this spot. Thanks for checking this one out!
Another great episode. The drone footage was epic, Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! 😀. This area is so good to film with the drone , we love it
Definitely bucket list stuff, unbelievable views. Gotta love OZ... and those Parmies at the end ! yum.. Great video guys. Loved every bit of it.. keep them coming !!!
Thanks so much! The Parmies were gooood (and the views :p)! Thanks for watching :)
This episode is epic! That one shot drone sweep was amazing. Loved the way you guys were able to showcase this awesome track, Keen for the next one!
Thank you! 😀😀. We were actually contemplating chopping that shot up a bit, but glad we left it in for something a little different
I love the Vic High Country. I can’t wait to do sone more exploring down that way again soon
It’s got to be one of the best spots in the whole country - it’s just spectacular. We’re stoked that we’ve been able to spend a decent amount of time here
