Just recently found your channel and love it. I am amazed at how many people go out without basic recovery equipment. When I could not afford a winch, I bought a come along and 50 foot of cable. That alone got me out of a lot of trouble. When we bought my wife's Jeep, first thing I did was put a winch on it. Then I put the lift kit and tires. Self recovery is so important when wheeling solo.
BTW, always check your winch before you leave. This way you know you have the controls and it is in working order. Seen several yt videos where they forgot the controller or the winch was not working when they needed it

see that so often pulling people out backwards they turn the wheels wrong way to back onto the road. Love seeing you bring your family along. Recovery in that type of snow is often hard not to damage vehicles as the snow once moved freezes and crushes body panels easily. Nice job getting them out and a great day to take the family out.

Hey Rick I was wondering the other evening if your beard ever covers your face while you’re sleeping and you wake up in a panick haha or do you put it in a hair tie?
I have a dumb question, what size snatch block would be appropriate for a Jeep wrangler with a 10,000 pound winch? Im looking at the snatch blocks on Zips AWDirect ((the wrecker ones with a swivel hook)) and the largest they have that fits my wire rope((3/8”)) is a 4” 4ton. They don’t list the WLL safety factor but I’m assuming it’s 4:1, which puts the breaking strength around 32,000 pounds. The next size up is a 6” 8ton which I trust more but the smallest wire rope you can use for it is 5/8”, and I don’t that lol. What would you recommend? I really like the wrecker style snatch blocks because they would be very difficult for someone to steal without anyone noticing.
What I would recommend is what I’m using in this video, synthetic winch line, yankum fairlead, and 2 yankum winch rings. Guarantee you will like that set up better. But if you are hellbent then I would recommend the 4 ton for lack of any other options, i use a 3:1 design factor on snatch blocks.
As I have said on a few channels, unless it came from the factory with tracks it’s just a gimmick. Everyone that I have seen either gets stuck, tosses a track , flips a track or just breaks. They look cool but I don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze. But are fun fir the very short time they work!
@@GLDENGLOVES never seen one in the oil fields, or trail grooming, or search and rescue or the military. Usually just on TH-cam.
