Best obd2 scan tool to buy 2024
Glad to find this review. I have a D7 also. Got it almost 2 years ago. Had to learn on the fly since no one really has the same scanner. It’s been pretty good thus far. In the beginning I wondered if I made the wrong purchase, but the more I’ve used and become familiar, the more I’ve been able to get the data I need from it.
Appreciate your review thank you but could you please tone the background music while you're talking a little too loud and distracting trying to hear you at the same time

I lost all keys on my 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. It wS going to cost 800 to 1k. So I call in a favor 🦇🦇🦇. After a week of dd. I found the d7. Long story short, I programmed my own remotes 🌩😤🌩. Because im Batman. 🦇🦇🦇
How much better is this than the xtool A30M?
Thanks for sharing, my d7 arrived a short time ago, going through the learning curve, it's quite interesting to me as a novice and enjoy every aspect of a bidirectional feature.
This thing saved me 800-1k and it paid for itself in less than 10 months. I never had a technical issue with it. A customer/friend popped his suspension airbaggie thing a majig. 😢. Armada starboard side 10° list 😅 not the d7s fault. User error😢

Didn't Autel purchase the XTool brand a couple years ago. I was going to purchase the one that is able to reprogram and add keys. It could pull the pin code needed for the key and infotainment systems
They are two brands and there is no such thing as an acquisition. Key programming is simple for Xtool
I used an XTool AD20 pro. It erased data on my 2003 4Runner. Now I'm buying a bidirectional scanner to fix the YAW sensor.
What did you get? Im thinking of the xtool a30m
@@MarstaJNZ I bought a cheap one at auto one that had bidirectional controls. I recoded the YAW and returned it.

ok i bought xtool when i needed to reset some things on a vehicle with in a month they stopped updates and wouldn't give me a refund spent a $1000 in there crappy tool do not buy xtool obd2 scanners

@@geremiasalvo3406 I think it would however a thing I do is just unplug the sbc. You can then safely flush it with a pressure bleeder, NOT manually, and then when done reconnect. There will be no issues. 😉
Will this tool allow you to reset tire size, tire pressure, gear ratios and the rest for all vehicles without additional purchase? Some call this adaptations? Looks like Scantool calls it "updates" ? Is it safe to assume these functions are available for basically any Make /Model which it connects with?

I see on their website it says 36 Hot Maintenance Services one of them is TPMS but this does not tell me you can change for example the target Air pressure and range... or Gear Learning...sounds like you can change Gear ratio's here but not srue what that really means. Also "Tire upgrades" this sounds like changing tire sizes but it does not say specifically...thanks
It falls under coding/adaptation yes. It all depends on if the car originally had that option. Meaning if a control module supports the processing

How do you go about registering the XTOOL D7 could you help with that. when I got mine 2024 xTOOL D7 through Amazon there was no seal on the case of the scanner when it was purchase that when it first come out the 2024 newest version XTOOL D7 didn't have any problems with it but there was no security seal on the case. But there should have been one correct any help I appreciate it thank you for sharing all of your videos and you're awesome knowledge MasterTech Lou.

It should have walked you through registration once you received it. If it didnt you may wanna return it. It should show you when the software expires. Indicating when it was put into service. And thank you for the nice comments on my channel I really want to help. I will be doing less reviews in the future and more “how to” videos

So it got warranty when I registered when I connected to XTOOL D7. I did received all my downloads at the same time so that's when I receive my warranty I understand now. and even been receiving all my updates so I guess it got warranty when I connected to
XTOOL D7 company ..but there was no safety seal on the case like it showed on your video the sticker over the seam of the case. that sticker it wasn't on mine. I wonder why but it works fine with no problem but my last download after I received it and it was done my screen went blank the only thing showing was my prompts were on the bottom that's all it shows so I shut it off restarted it and everything come back as it should I guess it's fine.. thank you for replying back to me right away I truly appreciate it Master Tech Lou I didn't understand how the warranty come into play thank you for let me know that.. I do definitely appreciate all your videos and the knowledge you share with me in your videos helps me become a better and great mechanic knowledge is power . I try and respond as I can however my time is limited and most of the questions I am asked are already answered in my videos. All the xentry software is the same. Its the hardware that’s different. So choose what you like in that regard. There are many websites that offer xentry just make sure to do your homework on reviews. Also check forums.
Why is my key programming option not available?
Hi Lou love your channel so it took me 9 months but got xentry scanner for my 04 e320 and it has paid for itseld with 1 use l. Teleaid is now mot present and fixed srs lights also but in white guage cls cluster. Also my buddy in Euripe used team viewer and vedimo to put the og miles back on newer cluster. It does not do online mode of course but can do a lot with it. Plus with tactrix bootleg its 20 bucks and i just got programs loaded for cheap on my oldwr laptop workes great. So for say a toyota i have two of them 2011 and 2015 what would be a giid module i saw openport j2534 2.0 workes for toyota
J2534 I believe is not for diagnostic its only for online programming. I now manage a toyota service dept and the scanner is on a Panasonic toughbook. Its called TIS techstream. Not sure yet who it anyone sells the program bootleg.
Are any of the popular scan tool brands better at analysis of common vehicle makes in the 10 - 20 year old range ? Not a a lot of call from my customers for transmission relearn on 2023 Russian Lada 😊

Android is open source, you could hardwire it to a vehicle. That’s why it’s tamper sealed with a sticker and not glued together like a apple product.
How do you set up log email option? Tried but failed
Would not diagnose a faulty parking sensor on a 2018 Kia Soul. If it did everything then they wouldn’t sell the higher spec. models I guess🤔

Hi. I also have the D7 and seems that it doenst read my Nissan Cube. this nissan is japanese import and it doenst have normal 17 number vin number. i think it only has frame number. not sure is it possible to generate the vin somehow and enter it manually to the D7 tester.

Hey Lou, I’m thinking about buying this xtool and thank you for all the awesome information on it. I got a 2001 S500 W220 and I got a situation with the headlights. I only got low beam and high beam and none of the fog light positions work on the switch so does this scanner give a diagnoses tips if the switch is bad or if it’s just something else and how does it compare to the icarsoft CR model ?
What you need is bi directional testing to fully confirm if it's the switch itself, a module, or the headlightb itself.
With Icarsoft it will show live data the xtool can do live data

hi lou i try to make it short i have air injection pump code po410 pump gone i replace it with the relay erased the code still give me the same code and low air left and right bank still i have the check valve i don't know how test it please can you help i really appreciate thanx u for your valuable time
I just bought The Xtool D7S. It does not show the Reference value on the live data streams. Did you do something to get your D7 To show it. The D7S is supposed to be newer so why does it not show it.
Hello, was it on the exact same model and module? I just connected it to my dodge and it does not give me reference values. So my assumption is, that unless the module is capable of giving reference values you will not see any. I did an autel review on the same dodge I am going to ffwd through that video see if the live data screen is the same as xtool but my guess is the module doesnt give reference values. Just my opinion but something I will now watch out for. Thanks 😊, Lou
Ok yes so on my autel video the “range” column is there but its blank. So my guess is that the oem module doesn’t support the range function or reference values. Again I will keep an eye on this and compare oem. Now I am at toyota so I can check the gts3 vs the scanners I have. Thanks again, Lou

@@mattman16oct ok from what I have seen so far at Toyota, the oem scanner doesnt give a reference value. The reference numbers are in the diagnostics fault trees in their workshop information system knows as TIS. Mercedes star diagnosis/xentry systems did show reference values which was awesome. Some manufacturers just expect you to know these things which sucks. Theres a lot of useful information that falls through the cracks in the automotive industry which im sure you’re aware of. “Doesnt the scanner tell you whats wrong?” Is something I hear constantly. Wish things were as easy as people want them to be. Hope this helps, best of luck my friend. Lou

I found the graphing function really sucks. Sampling rate of 2 frames per second and no floating scale for MV applications. Other than that, a fairly good bargain. Just don't expect readable live data for A/F sensors. It took 2 weeks of back and forth to communicate the deficiency and after a promise that engineering would address the poor scaling, it was never corrected. Autel has far more responsive and intelligent customer support. Maybe if I download updates a month after the release, the live data graphing funuction will magically self-correct. I know the correct scaling is possible because if you export the data, it reads with a correct scale. However when this is done, you have to limit the time because the time scale is compressed. This must be why reviewers dance around live data graphing.
When did you get your Xtool D7.. 2023 there was a new version with the new updates which upgraded to D8 but a couple things with the biometric it can group up to four at a time. So if you have XTOOL D7 you can upgrade yours to the newest version they have a new version out😎👍

It can read mileage if a module store’s mileage. If that makes sense. If the engine module is capable of storing miles or another module besides the cluster then yes it should be able to.

I always slid by with my obd tool. I recently came up against a malfunctioning body control module and spent a whole day tracking the signals with a meter disconnecting( welded 😂) connectors. I'll never do that again. im just studying what scanner will allow me to check and possibly reset control modules. Does anyone know if the D7 gets that job done?

@@adams6798 they all the same in my eyes. Basically comes down to what format you like lookin at. I personally like launch. I am still getting familiar with xtool which I also really like especially the a30m. But topdon pheonix plus seems very competitive. I just dont work on as many issues as id like to really hammer home which one is best. At least not yet.

@@adams6798 I have a 2017 launch x431 still work’s awesome with great battery life. So id have to say launch. They seem to have the most street cred next to autel which im pi55ed that my 1800$ ms906bt battery is crap after 2 years
