Designing an airbox - Suzuki Bandit Cafe Racer - ASBO Project

  • Today I'm making a CAD airbox for the Suzuki Bandit Cafe Racer project which I later turn into aluminium
There's a lot more going on here than you might think...
SOMEBODY IS GOING TO WIN ASBO - That's right, somebody who supports the QuickBikes channel and the bikes I'm building is going to be the proud owner of a completely custom built Suzuki Bandit Cafe Racer once it's finished. I'm giving away ASBO to celebrate hitting the 10,000 subs mark to somebody who supports the channel.
To stand a chance of winning the bike once its finished, simply donate £10 to the channel using the PayPal link - www.paypal.com/paypalme/Quick...
Where it says "What's this payment for?", enter "Supporting the channel". That way I know what the payment is for and I can make sure your name goes in my hat.
You can donate as much as you like and each £10 donation to the channel will get you another chance to win the bike as you're supporting us that much more.
If the winner is not in the UK, I can crate it up etc, but the shipping will be their responsibility. If you're in the UK, we'll be able to arrange something.
Please, please, please like and share this video as it will be setting the budget to finish the bike and hopefully raise some additional funds so I can include some spanky bits in the build. The bigger the budget, the better the bike you might end up with.
    THIS IS NOT A RAFFLE...
You won't get a ticket or a sticker in the post, but I'll publish a list of names regularly, so you know you you've been entered. Somebody who has chipped in will be randomly picked once the bike is finished and as a thank you for supporting us will be the proud new owner of ASBO.
The very BEST of luck to you if you chose to join in and help support the channel 😁👍

Hi Quicky, me again, also I have a Kawasaki GT750 cafe, I put oval pods on the carbs, spent 30 hours on interweb seeking jets sizes etc, but after very vague information i put filter foam inside each pod, i was only after the look as the 750 has enough grunt for fun, briggs & stratton 4 stroke lawn mower air filters, 1 in each, and they work brilliantly, cheers mate...

Inlet chamber design is even more complicated than exhaust . Especially on a motor that works over a large range of rpm ( pulse frequency and actual air flow).

Got a soft spot for the Bandit 12, sold my Blackbird and bought one because it was happier pottering around behind 50's and 125's than the Blackbird was (riding instructor, not just bothering L platers!). It was such a laugh and always up for a bit of "making progress", and the tuning market for them is massive! A GSX1200R sounds proper naughty!

Back when I had my Race Car/Race mlm Bike shop ..I had a "SuperFlow" flow bench, to do Heads, intakes, and exhausts on Cars and Bikes..You are absolutely right about the pressure waves!. and there is an exact formula for figuring out how tall or short you .make your Velocity Stacks..top end power or low end power also figures in!..Removal of the Air Box, will definitely change the dyno specs!..So will changing the exhaust! ...That changes all the numbers...Getting advice from a Race Shop that Flow Benchs their bikes is your best bet..Everything else is literally guess work...(with more experienced folks having a better chance at hitting the high numbers)..Keep up the good work and I'm sure you will get it..👍🗽🇺🇸

    • @QuickBikes

There's a lot of guesswork going on here, but with an engineering degree or access to test kit, the only thing I can do is not stray toooo far from stock. Its going to be a compromise though however close I get...

on the ZZR try and old school Gunson Colortune as the nocking might be the idle mixture not even across the board - rod knock would not normally sort it's self out on higher rev's - how ever I would defo sort out the van :) I cant wait to see what you settle on with the air box on the 600 as I am doing the exact same bike at the moment and wanted to do away with the air box mainly due to the faff to remove it. better to let someone else figure it out 1st :)

The bench is really good and takes 1000kg . The o ly things I'm not keen on is the chock that bolts on to hold the front wheel is too high and hits brake discs, and I keep walking into the lever to pump the bench up, which tends to sting a bit. But I'd have another one for sure 😁👍

looks like a BARN it's grim. good luck, 750 carbs used to be a common upgrade, shame the shitbox micra crowd made the throttle bodies for the 600 and thousands gxr more expensive.
find a floe bench and the drafting programs. my suggestionbwould be some tubing/ducting in the area you arent bulding into like ram air style coming fron under the seat/in the tail to compensate for the lack of volume
given that you have to rejet for the new exhaust anyway the hi flow filter is going to be massively helpful power wise. 8-15hp in theory from a hi flow filter and exhaust change.
airbox internals are always a compromise between WOT power and mid range response and s bike that does wot power is easy something thatbdoesnt sacrifice massively is far harder. its why the variable runner length tech is so cool and heavily researched.
could you tack or Shape metal inserts to.round the corner maybe? alter the shape of the box inside after construction before welding the lid on?

Hi Quicky, why why why would you need to put a daily ride on a dyno, my 95' 1100 started for the first time in 5 years after a lot of tlc, first ride was 2 days ago and pulls 70kph in first gear, still got 5 more gears, but that was for a brief second, why hold a bike at revs it will never do on the road on a dyno, i understand racebikes are designed for constant high reving, but a daily... guess there is only 27 silver registered in the UK left now? love the channel, cheers mate

    • @QuickBikes
      @QuickBikes  ปีที่แล้ว

Running it up on a dyno is a great way of checking everything and getting stuff like the fueling right. I should have put more miles on it on the road before dynoing it, but given how rich it is and finding the worn seats in the carb, it was worth doing at some point. The race bikes we ran in the past mechanically were a stock engine with only a can, air filter and properly set up the dyno. Nothing more than that as the regs didn't allow it and there's no reason a stock engine shouldn't be capable of it. The bike will come apart again and I'll fix whatever went wrong as its a good little bike now 😁
