Like you & Paul, we no longer have a desire to pay extravagant prices to see a movie, plus the added costs of popcorn & drinks. With a ROKU, we always manage to find newer movies to watch for free, in the comfort of our home. We have our own popcorn, drinks & snacks. And, no more rushing to the theater restrooms.

Great video Emmy and Paul! Since the pandemic I started cleaning with white vinegar mixed with Dawn for the bathroom, kitchen, mirrors, cabinets, garbage can. It is wonderful! Great video!! My biggest budget buster was diet Coke! It was an indulgence at every lunchtime and the four o'clock slump at work. At first, it was given up because of the carcinogenic chemicals in diet sodas but the money saving was an added bonus! We now make sweet iced tea. My recipe is one family size tea bag and one half cup of organic sugar in a saucepan with some boiling water and steep for 20 minutes. Then add enough water to fill a half gallon container. It's delicious and very, very frugal!

I gave up diet coke a year ago. It was very difficult because I was addicted to it and actually went through withdrawal. I also gave up potato chips 2 years ago. I haven't bought a bag since because I have no control around them. I'm proud that my diet has become a lot cleaner. I now drink about 1/2 gallon of water a day and snacks have become fruit and things like olives, cheese, occasional chocolate. I also lost 30 pounds!

Thanks Paul and Emmy for the helpful, upbeat video.
Let me chime in on what we used to buy and have stopped buying: rinse agent for the diswasher and fabric softener for the washing machine (vinegar instead), Kleenex (cut up bandanas instead that I wash), potato chips, ALL disposable plates, cups and cutlery, ziploc bags, pretty much all processed foods. We have heavily reduced our used of paper towels, but I haven’t quite figured out how to do away with them completely. In fact we have reduced our use of lots of things like laundry and diswasher detergent, shampoo and cleaning product as we were unnecessarily using too much.
I make our own sour cream, yogurt, granola, all baked goods, jams, oat milk..all things we used to buy! It is so easy, we are not going without anything, just changing out habits! These are just some of the changes we have made. It’s a journey, you are right, and we are still on it making new money saving moves every day.

Hi Emmy and Paul! Thank you again for another encouraging video. I think it’s so easy to think about what we can’t afford or might not be able to afford at the current price that we forget that we can make a lot of substitutions. I love love love to bake with buttermilk. It just makes muffins, pancakes and cakes so much fluffier, but buttermilk cost twice as much as regular milk. I make my own and I have discovered a trick. When I know that I am using buttermilk in the morning I will set it up the night before. In a cup that has a lid I will use 1 tablespoon of white vinegar per cup of milk and let it sit overnight. It produces a thicker buttermilk than just letting it sit for about 15 or 20 minutes. The same goes for buttermilk that I might need in the evening, I set it up before I go to work and then have perfectly creamy and thick buttermilk to use for dinner. Have a great week!

Good advice. My husband loves sandwiches but it's been a while since I've bought lunch meats. I cook bone-in turkey breasts (99 -$1.99 a pound) and whole chickens and use the leftovers for lunch meats. Last week I bought a spiral sliced ham for 89 cents a pound! Sliced meats at the deli counter are running $6 to Almost $10 a pound! People around me were buying sliced meats and ignoring the beautiful hams that were going for a song! For a little bit of effort (I cook the turkey and chicken in my crockpot)we can save so much money and have our sandwiches, too!

I used to buy movie tickets for Christmas only for my son. He loved the movie setting and once a year wasn’t bad, but Covid came and we cut that gift out and my son doesn’t mind. We watch movies together and pop popcorn or occasionally we have ice cream with all the toppings with our movie. I pretty much don’t spend on the same things you mentioned here, but we do do a raffle once a year with our local police department as the money goes to Shop With A Cop. We keep that to $20 or under. It is for a good cause and helps our community. We are pretty frugal. I make everything imaginable from scratch and I do mend clothing instead of pitching items that still have a lot of wear. Clothing is something we save big on. It doesn’t take long to mend something and I can do that while watching that movie at home. Xx

I can't remember if I told you this before but we bought a meat slicer about 6 months ago and oh my gosh, has it been a game changer! I really fought my husband on it because I thought it was silly but we have saved so much money. We buy several turkeys for super cheap around Thanksgiving and freeze them and do the same with ham around easter. We have not had to buy lunch meat at all. He also uses it to slice blocks of cheese for sandwiches and even uses it to slice my homemade bread in perfectly even sandwich slice sizes. Considering my husband and 13-year-old son each take a sandwich every day that's saving 10 sandwiches worth of lunch meat and cheese at deli department prices. I think the meat slicer was about $150 and it has already paid for itself and then some! Love and hugs!

Finally, someone will give me a bag from something they purchsed in a fancy shop. I will cut that to remove logo (if any) and wrap with that. Probably the biggest thing we cut out is eating out/fast food. We can’t always get away with this as my husband is diabetic and I have a coffee addiction. However, we are smart about it. I get a McDonalds or Tim Hortons coffee instead of Starbucks or we get just a sandwich instead of a whole meal. Just little things make all the difference.

I rarely fill up my gas tank anymore, thanks to working remotely. I would be spending a fortune if I was still commuting 40 miles a day. Besides that, like you, I haven't been to a movie since 2019, stopped buying magazines (there is so much content online and Pinterest) and rarely buy bakery goods (I like to make my own). I just made my own coleslaw this weekend for a barbecue we had. Someone else brought some prepared coleslaw, which was almost $5 for a small package. My coleslaw cost maybe $1 or 2, to make from the cabbage head, couple of carrots, mayo, sugar, vinegar, etc. yielded way more servings, and it tasted way better.

    Hi Emmy & Paul,
I stopped magazine subscriptions, they were getting too expensive. I use vinegar for years as my fabric softener and it does a great job with no smell of vinegar. I cut my cable years ago and have a whole collection of DVD's that I bought at Goodwill, Salvation Army or garage sales and watch on an old DVD player. I clean the DVD with soap and water before using it. My town library use to have magazines and DVD's but now they no longer carry those items since the pandemic.
I plant small vegetable plants and dwaft fruit plants in pots and grow them on my sunny apartment balcony that's about 10 or 15 feet long. Some veggies and fruits that I grow each year are basil, sage, garlic, oregano, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, cucumbers, broccoli, lettuce, and arugula. One year I grew a raspberry plant in a large laundry basket and it did quite well but I did not put a netting over it and the birds made off with most of the berries! My balcony faces southwest and I see beautiful sunsets each evening.
Thank you for all your videos, I've been learning a lot since tuning into your channel.

We retired when we were 62 and 60 yrs old. For some reason we've always been very frugal, probably because our parents lived thru the great depression. Anyway, we are married 51 years and I cut my husband's hair. He's never been to a barber since we're married! We are fortunate to live near alot of grocery outlets to stock up on cans of tomatoes, etc. When you cook from scratch you are not paying for the packaging. We eat alot of tuna or chicken salad. On occasion I'll buy a small amt of lunchmeat in order to make homemade Ruebin sandwiches. Vinegar and baking soda and liquid soap will clean anything. Baking soda acts like fabric softener. Lol, you and Paul are like minded people and I'm never too old to learn. You are very encouranging. Take care......

My biggest "waste" is extra veggies at our local organic market. I do buy Bronners soap, dilute in a spray bottle to wash our veggies. A $10 bottle will last over a year where a bottle of veggie wash is around $5 & would last about a month. I teach healthy living classes & teach my classes ways to decrease chemicals. We buy milk from a local farm. Once you try farm milk, you just can't back to store bought milk - the taste difference is tremendous. So even though it's $6, I still think it's worth, have two teenagers at home. I sew my own cloths - dresses, coats, skirts, tops - you name it. Saves tons of money, perfect fit, and natural fabric (most medium price clothing brands use polyester).

@@FrugalMoneySaver You can totally do that! Gutenberg Project has tons of free e-books from 1800s -1900s on crochet, embroidery, knitting, sewing. Back then 8-10 year old girls would make garments for their dolls and dresses, hats, mittens for themselves. All handmade. You can just start small and with something that you'll give a lot of wear. Say, add a nice crochet edging to a neckline and sleeves of an old summer dress.

Its about $30 BUT I got a set of 20 different colors and the powder lasts FOREVER! Also your nails are hard after applying and the nails last quit awhile (especially if you use cleaning gloves while doing dishes/cleaning ect) I still have my first whole set from a year ago and I didnt even touch like 10 colors yet!! I do my nails every two weeks and they almost never chip in between. So thats every 2 weeks im using it for over a year! Just an idea because I love my manicures! lol also, i do it with my daughters every once in awhile its so much fun!!

Hello! We just stopped using paper towels this year. I will still use them for picking up an accident/hairballs from our dog or cats, but I purchased baby cloth diapers instead for other clean- up jobs and love them! They are super soft and I just toss them in the washer on warm water and throw some vinegar or a little bleach in the water and they come out very clean. Its ridiculous how much paper towels cost these days. I also pop my own corn in a special bowl in the microwave. It tastes so much better without those chemicals that are in the store bought kind. I also use vinegar for a rinse agent in the dishwasher and washing machine as a fabric softener. In my flower beds I also only plant perennial flowers so they will come back year after year without having to buy new plants. I never thought about cleaning the tub and shower with dish soap! I will have to try that, thanks!

I sprinkle on baking soda and use a spray bottle for the cleaning vinegar. Use a brush to scrub and let sit for a few hours. When I rinse the tub it is so clean and shiny. I cut out magazine subscriptions about 10 years now and I rarely ever buy a book. I've gotten books for gifts because my family knows how much I love to read. I buy restaurant size cans once a month ( 1 can a month ) of tomatoes, tomato puree, tomato sauce and once I pertain 2 cans of each product then I make my own pasta sauce ( each can normally is 5 to six bucks each ) and I end up with 32 jars of homemade sauce.
I buy 1 restaurant size can of ketchup and place in jars and process in a pressure cooker ( makes enough for a year) . Same goes for mustard, BQ sauce . I go to the warehouse club and purchase big bags of frozen vegetables ( 3 at a time ) and come home and jar them and process in pressure cooker and now that will last me a year in canned vegetables . I just bought a case of oranges for 20 bucks ( came home and made orange juice shelf stable )
You can also use frozen vegetables in a dehydrator to use in soups , stews, pot pies , and so forth .
In grocery store a few months back I purchased 5 lbs of potatoes at 2.00 a bag ( bought 40 lbs ) and made in jars. , Fried potatoes, french fries ,
I dehydrated potatoes for scalloped .
Best of all by doing this it saves money, eating healthier, and I'm doing what I love,
In my back yard I will soon start my gardening of vegetables and

I’ve recently left the workforce and am a full time domestic goddess. I received a very nice bonus from my employer as a retirement gift. I immediately bought a Cuisanart stand mixer and have been making all our bread products. I’m always amazed at what such humble ingredients can turn into. And the house smells amazing on baking day. Also another thing we are fortunate not to pay for is car maintenance. My husband is a self-taught car mechanic and works on both our vehicles. The only time they go to the shop is for new tires when needed or if we get a recall notice. He grew up in single parent home and learned to fix cars out of necessity. If he doesn’t know exactly how to fix something, he researches the problem and looks for others who know how to fix it then does it himself.

Love this video! Deli meats are so easy but yes expensive! I’m going to try not to buy anymore deli meats and make egg salad or chicken salad instead!

We stopped going to hair salon. When the pandemic started I bought hair trimming set on Amazon. I've been cutting my family's hair since. It has saved our family of five alot being each cut was running $26-30.

Oh, my gosh! You both have caused me to have a problem!!! I have started saving every little scrap of food and often putting it in the freezer. It is a small apartment sized one. Now it is full. I won't go shopping till it is way down. Last weekend I made soup, from one tin of stewed tomatoes, all the rest was water and leftovers out of the fridge, even the last 1/2 of an onion, a chunk of ruttabega , one chopped up baked potato, and anything else I could find, even the last 1/4 cup of my mild salsa ( sure gave it all a kick.) I got 8 bowls of soup from scraps ( just had the last of it!). Now to attack the rest. Chicken included!
Watch you on the tv and love your shows.
