we pay our bills online to save on postage. We make use of the envelopes we don't use by writing our grocery list on the back and then filling it with coupons. Nothing goes to waste

We get lots of envelopes to send payments back but make our payments online so we use these envelopes to keep score on games and I cut small pieces from them to label my frozen food in plastic containers.

Here's my frugal tip for gardening. I go to my local home center and immediately go to the clearance rack at the back of the gardening center. I only buy perennial plants that are on clearance. If they are in a particularly bad condition I asked the manager of the garden center for a deeper discount. Perennial plants will come back from the roots or bulbs every year. They may look horrible when you plant them, but the following spring they will be beautiful. I have planted my front yard this way for years and it is the beauty of the neighborhood.

With the growing season approaching, I have another idea for used clothes, towels, pillowcases, etc....cut them into strips and use these to tie up plants (tomatoes, pea/bean plants, peppers, etc...). Since the cloth is soft it doesn't damage the plants like plastic ties, will degrade unlike plastic plus you're recycling! DixieBelle and with her baby was super cute. 💖

For bread crumbs, I take the end pieces of a loaf of bread and let them are dry until they are completely hard. I then run them through the food processor to make my bread crumbs. I store them in a coffee can until my recipes call for the crumbs. You can add seasonings to the crumbs if you like. I never buy the ones in the store.

They get a huge kick out of some of the things I do . I cut up cereal boxes to make paper plates , I use inside bag from cereal box instead of wax paper , to roll pizza & biscuit dough on . If the kids have leftover milk from cereal , I use their milk for my own cereal . Instead of going out to eat for hubby bday , I made roasted chicken , roasted potatoes , corn casserole & PB rice Krispy Squares . The meal was a huge hit & he said the food was actually better than the restaurant we would normally go to . You inspire me so much !!! God bless you & Paul ! Thank you 😊❤️🌺

When I set up my home office for teleworking last year, I needed a trash can. I took a small amazon box, lined it with a grocery bag, and it works perfectly for what I need it for! My husband and I have started re using cards we have gotten each other in the past, such as our anniversary, birthdays, christmas, etc., instead of buying a new one for each special occasion. Love all the tips. My grandmother used to work in the hotel industry. The only soaps we used as kids were the little soaps from the hotel as they had to replace any that had been set out in the hotel rooms. To this day, I remember the smell of those little pink bars! I do not purchase the paper for the coupons but we get a weekly flyer in the mail for our grocery stores. I really only shop at one store...Early in the pandemic, I was fearful of going out of my home due to my own health concerns. There were just too many unknowns back then. Because of this, I would make a grocery list throughput the week and head to the store on Saturday mornings. Usually I would be in line for when they opened. Although things are starting to lighten up a bit, because I found that I could get in and out of the store within 30-45 minutes, I have decided to continue this shopping habit. I have my list, I get exactly what I need and I get out of there (I also found out that my store discounts their meat Saturday morning so I take advantage of this and have found some great deals!). I realized that I have saved money overall as I don’t take time for browsing through the store like I used to, plus I save money on gas for the car. Thanks again for all the tips!!

NEVER WASTE FOOD! My close friends know how I feel about food waste and new friends will learn. We rarely eat out since moving 2/2020 because of the pandemic and I also love to cook and bake, but believe me, when we do eat out, any food that's left at the end comes with us.
I'm not one to accept extra condiments that I'm not planning to use for the meal I've purchased, either from fast food, sandwich shop or restaurant. Those seemingly cheap packs add up to big money for businesses, so I try to be conscious of that especially in our current times. Small businesses are very appreciative of others thoughtfulness.
Always make do with what you have. Make do, use what you have, repair before replace and wear it out.
Love your frugal ways and thank you for sharing. 🙂

So glad I'm not the only person who follows a lot of these frugal practices! We live on a very limited income (social security) & have learned to be very frugal. If I have a t-shirt that has a fraying neckline or sleeve borders, I'll cover them with a pretty border tape. I mend everything -- socks, undies, shirts, pants. When we used to buy frozen dinners, I saved the plastic trays the food came in to wash & use for sandwich trays. I wash plastic utensils & have a gallon ziplock bag full of them. I save all glass jars to store rice & dried beans in. I save bread bags & the plastic closure tabs, plus all twist ties. I also save all condiment packets in ziplock bags in my fridge. I save & re-use just about everything!

I always ask for the plastic silverware that goes into the garbage at functions. I put a separate bag out for them. I bring them home, wash them and use them until I can't anymore. When I go to birthday parties or baby showers I always ask for the empty gift bags/tissue paper and I reuse them. It just kills me that theses things are going into the trash when they can definitely be reused. Now people automatically save them for me lol.

Hi Emmy and Paul. Every night I will now think of you both ... we sit in our TV room watching TH-cam with no lights on in the house. People either think we are not home or Gee, they go to bed so early. I have a confession, most of our old clothes never make it to the rag pile. Why? Because I always say that we can wear the item one more time. We have some clothes that have holes in the sleeves, etc. We would never wear them out anywhere but they are perfectly fine for around the home. I get sentimental and think of all the happy times we wore those clothes and I don't want to give them up until absolutely necessary. Enjoy your week.

I always take food home from a restaurant, since I paid for it. The leftovers can be turned into another meal or side. The bread tastes good with butter, jelly or scrambled eggs for breakfast the next morning. I have continued to just buy food to fill in since Dec. We're eating out of the freezer and pantry, rotating stock and trying to be better at our frugal ways. I don't always get it right, but I try so hard to make it work. Before I married, I shopped all the grocery stores in town for sales and stocked up for our first year of marriage. I didn't have to buy a lot of things, now that I think back. I was in college in nursing school at the time, so I had to do this. I graduated the next summer and that is a happy memory for me. Thank you, Emmie. I love your channel. When we did dine out, I would take home any leftover bread as well as the tiny butter tubs that came in the basket. Sometimes we would eat it but generally it was a little treat for the dogs. Back in the day Red Lobster would supply a generous amount of their cheddar biscuits with entrees and I made sure to carry a ziplock bag to put some in. Tasted great heated in the toaster the next day.

I made a planter (like Paul showed) out of a 2 liter bottle my daughter had. I needed a cotton wick so instead of buying clothesline I paid a dollar for a cotton mophead at Dollar Tree. I pulled a strip of it out. I have plenty left to make more. I planted one of my periwinkles in it. I may share this idea with our church's children ministry leader 😊

Just an observation! A good one! Has anyone noticed how so many people spend to impress like there’s no tomorrow? and they’re all miserable? Well, like Emmy said, you don’t have to waste you’re money just because you have it. Emmy and Paul, I love how you both are very happy people! Find fun in the challenges to be frugal, to avoid wasting ready resources, keep waste out of landfills. I find comfort in your videos too. Bless you for sharing your ideas with us!

Hi, Emmy and Paul, I enjoy your videos and agree with your ideas for saving money. However, I am entering a new phase of my life; downsizing and moving into a 1 bedroom apartment in what is called an independent living community, which includes 3 very nice meals per day.
My apartment has a nice kitchen with full-sized appliances so I will be cooking for church potlucks and enjoying drinks and snacks at home. I will be on the lookout for ways to save in my new environment.

One of my fav tips is using the library. Don’t buy a book when you can get it at the library for free. If it’s a book you’ll refer to a lot, then ok, buy it (check out 2nd hand or used bookstores to see if they have the title so you can get it cheaper than a new copy). I use the library for DVDs and magazines too. It’s such an amazing resource.

Suggestion… shop with an itemized list and STICK TO IT !!! Also don’t go into the store without knowing what your dollar limit is & be tough on yourself and STICK like Superglue to that dollar spending limit. My husband didn’t until he watched me zoom through marketing and be able to stick to my list & stay within my desired total dollar amount. And … we usually don’t take as much time shopping because we’re target oriented … it truly makes you feel liberated when walking out of that store still within your budget … never have I felt frugal … I’ve always felt so much more accomplished !!! I set goals and limits and met those goals while staying within my dollar constraints … HAPPY THANKSGIVING and A MERRY CHRISTMAS to ALL🤗

Decorate the inside of a jar add led candles and it make a cozy light. Also make small atriums with soil and moss. Add some sparkly beads with a small cutting like rosemary. I obviously have nothing to do.

I really enjoy all your videos. A couple more frugal ideas...1) I add water to my liquid detergent, shake well and get another load or two; 2) I cut all body lotion, hand cream etc tubes in half to scoop out what would not squeeze out and get 3-5 more uses; 3) we get some clothes at Good Will...hubby just got a beautiful leather bomber jacket in nearly new condition for $1.

Or,like i do with books.as i read them,i donate back to our area free book bins, where i got them in the first place.
Buy the highest quality items you can .it may not sound frugal, but it actually is.
Allow me to explain for those who might not understand.
Say you need new shoes.do not ever buy cheap ,shoddy clothing, bedding, furniture, etc.there is no value in buying something cheap that offers zero support, falls apart instantly, makes dishes, laundry, personal hygiene worse.is it really a good value?
Is it a good value to have food you will never use just rot in the fridge,or freezer?gather dust in a cabinet?
    Clothing that is unflattering,uncomfortable,falling apart?
Is having excessive clutter worth it?

  • @laurie5098

I do all of these! I also will cut the end of a toothpaste tube to swab my tooth brush to use every bit of the tooth paste! You would be amazed how much toothpaste is still in the tube when you can't squeeze any more out! I fold it over and clip it like a chip bag and keep cutting it down and swabbing until it is all gone. That will usually last another week or so for me. When I am out of a seasoning or ingredient, I google how to make my own or a good substitute. You mentioning being out of ketchup, but having BBQ sauce reminded me of the time we made our own ketchup using tomato sauce. Another thing I do is taking those little bits of bath soap and putting it in some kind of small weaved netting (like the netting veggies or fruits come in) to keep using. I love reading everyone's ideas!

You are so right about the condiments, bread, its all paid for. Coupons have been produced for the purpose of using. I go through each entry on my bills and credit card entries. The only reason I use a credit card for my groceries is to collect rewards points and keep accounting each month on monies spent. Some products on grocery bills have rebates but always pay the full amount each month of your credit card bill so you never pay interest and bill your credit rating. You are such a common sense assertive woman and I appreciate any new tips I can pick up. You never stop learning to be even more frugal. Cheers from your Canadian neighbour. STay safe and blessed.😇🗽

This just reminded me that my car insurance has a $15 difference this month. Of course, the site is having technical difficulties. Since it's only 7:00 a.m., I'll have to remember to call and find out why. Thanks for the tip. My WalMart moved their clearance aisles (ha). I was amazed at how many of these tips I already follow, but I can always do better. One of mine is I save those packs with the fork, knife and napkin in it for my Granddaughters when they take lunch to school. However, right now they're getting free lunch, so I'm overwhelmed with all of those packs.

I even take the steak bones from my family’s restaurant meals. I take them home and rinse them. I freeze them until I have enough bones and scapes like onion peels to make broth. I then use it to home can meats like meatballs, and it makes a lot of food. I made enough for a year just on one crockpot of broth.I’m sure the people think I just have a dog, but I don’t. Lol

We bought our house in an older part of the village we live in instead of the new development. If you live in the fancy new houses, people expect you to have a newer car, best landscaping, newer furniture.... It's mentally and financially draining. My grandmother was an immigrant from Switzerland, and my grandfather from Germany. They came over in their late 20s about 87 years ago. You can imagine at that time it was a scandal. My grandfather worked on the boats and, my grandmother stayed in Switzerland 10 years until he was able to get passage for the both of them to legally enter the US. I learned so much from her about being frugal as they didn’t have much. But I can guarantee you my grandmother would serve everything on her finest China. We would watch the wide world of sports on a Sunday and she would display Pringles chips, As if they were such a delicacy on her fine China for us to munch on. My dad is often told me that she would , once a week, when they were growing up, have a gourmet delight. This consisted of all the little leftovers from their weekly meals, and with three growing boys and one hungry husband, it was always enough!. She was the best❤️
