I’m Scottish and I have always washed my dishes by hand , and hung my clothes out to dry on the line outside. Even now in the cold Autumn we hang them out on sunnier days. I love it when people decorate their houses with items that have a story behind them such as your curb finds that Paul repaired, your DIY projects and your family heirlooms. Your home looks every bit like mine would if I had my own home again. I always decorated with gently used furniture and other things. Many people who would visit couldn't believe I had put together such a welcoming and lovely home on such a small budget, and a few even asked if I'd had it professionally decorated. There's nothing like acquiring your own special touches to make a place really be your home.

I loved the tour! My house was built by my grandfather and is a Cape Cod. The foundation is made of stone and in the 1930's it was a stone cottage. He used the cottage as the foundation and built the 'house' on top in 1940. Many good memories here. It was my grandparents summer home and we spent every summer here in Lake Hopatcong. In the mid 1960's my mom and dad were gifted the house so I live in the house I grew up in. The house was passed down to me. All the furniture except for 5 pieces I inherited. Your home is warm and cozy. Again, I loved the tour! Beautiful!

It’s so refreshing to see a home that looks like mine! I have wallpaper in my kitchen and bathrooms and I know it’s considered outdated but I see no need to update it. I’m content with my frugal home.

Don't you just love having a home that is uniquely yours? It says so much about your personalities and reflects who you are. Trends come and go and who can really redecorate every 5 years? I've always gone against the grain and try to find unique pieces that aren't matchy- matchy. My daughter bought me a table that looks like a painter's palette with paint all over the top. It is unique to me as an artist and I just love it. As you say, this may not be your style but it is mine. How beautiful that we can have a home to enjoy and find comfort in.
Not to mention your house looks spotless.
Today I made one of your spinach and chicken dishes with cream and parmesan cheese. Oh my goodness, it is so good. A side of fresh green beans and some small crescent roll Danish for dessert. Just yummy.
I wish you had a video every day. I get so excited to try your recipes.

We are Retired couple, we bought our cranberry leather reclining loveseats at a furniture shop they were over ridiculously priced, so I asked the floor sales person if we could have the 2 floor models, Heaven to Betsy, I was floored $750.00 for the pair, genuine leather absolutely Amazing!!!
We donate to Goodwill monthly, I buy 4 times a year on Senior day, my Husband is a wood worker, he makes our lamps, waste cans, and I shop Consignment shop for a very nice DQ DQ table from the original DQ in our small town in the 1960's ....

I was "built" in 1943...and live in a 1919 home...furnished in authentic, vintage late 1920's furnishings, my kitchen is 1958 period vintage, with a 1949 O'Keefe & Merritt Range, a 1950 Youngstown Kitchen double basin sink...but a 2000 Kenmore Refer. All my accessories are from thrift or antique shops. Like your radio...I have a collection...all original, working. Repaired and restored. My couches are from the 1940s...so comfortable. Love your home. So great you both share and work on your home! I have my frog figurine collection around the house. The reason I can live as I do...a never married guy! So hard to meet ladies in my area who like vintage...most are modernists!!!

What a beautiful home! What really struck me about your converted guest room, your hang out space, was the lack of a TV and the prominence of instruments and a radio. I could totally imagine sitting at that table, playing cards with family or friends, listening to the radio. What a quiet, peaceful space. Everything was so inspiring, I hope to create a home like yours!

I love how you decorate your home! You talked about using the antiques you have and I just got done telling my daughter tonight, who’s getting ready to move to her first house, that if it’s important to her, use it to decorate. If it’s not important to her, donate it. There’s no point in having items of her grandparents that she loves packed away in a box where she cannot see and enjoy them. She knows 90% of what’s in my home is hand me downs, pre-loved, gifted to me, bought on clearance or items I’ve had for 20 years or more. So I love your decorating style and process. God bless y’all! I too have decided to decorate for my own style instead of for resale value. Our houses are all about the same and many look like they are decorated by the same person. I love primitive, french country, victorian, etc. and my home is becoming a mix of it all. Love your style and it makes me want to head out to Goodwill.

I love this. I'm moving into a bigger place so I went shopping for a nest of tables, dining table and chairs and a mirror. I got them from a second hand shop for £70 total including delivery.

I’m a little late finding this video, but I wanted to say you have a lovely home that is a beautiful reflection of you - and that’s what makes a home homey! I agree with your feeling that the best compliment anyone can give me about my home is that they’re comfortable enough to take a nap on my couch. When our children were teens, one day I noticed that their friends were sprawled over the living room as relaxed as could be. That said a lot, because my husband was their pastor, and they felt comfortable in their pastor’s home. One of the boys said our home was relaxing. I loved it! Finally, I had to stop the video and look at the books on your bookshelf. I have some of the same ones you do on your bottom shelf! That was a blessing to know that you enjoy some of the same authors I do. Thank you for your home tour!

What a beautiful home. Very cozy and quaint. We also have a small older ranch home. When I was younger I always wanted a bigger home. We always had our needs met. Sometimes if we waited long enough our wants too!.Now that we are retired and the boys are gone it’s just enough. I am so glad we didn’t get a bigger one! Blessings 😘❤️

We have the same style. My ho.e was a cottage style, buil in 1925.
850 square feet and cozy.
Our decor is mostly thrifted. We go for vintage, antiques, rustic.
We hardly ever buy retail. We love old, previously loved things. Back in the day things were made better

Your comment to use those "precious" items passed down from parents and grandparents resonates with me. I agree and am going to try to be even better about this moving forward. Sometimes we get caught up in trying to keep those "precious" items "precious" by rarely using them. We should use them and enjoy them in our everyday lives and I think that is what my mother, grandmothers and great grandmothers would have wanted. Thank you for what you do!

It's beautiful! So relaxing. I want to nap beside the dog. Just yesterday we were at our favorite thrift store. Dad found a great camel hair jacket and I got a big picture of elephants. I bought 6 or 7 tops and 3 PJ bottoms that I'll wear at home for slacks. Like you, I have antiques scattered around; most of them are from my family or his. I don't like modern decor because it all looks alike, and people aren't all alike. I love shopping and finding things I like, but I want what others throw away.

Love your home its warm and inviting. Love how it is decorated almost for the time period. Open and airy, Love the table cloths and bed spread too. Thank you for sharing it with us. Adding to this you can buy see through vinyl at fabric stores on large rolls. I put that over the little table to protect it and then you can see the picture. It would be worth the extra money for the colors goes beautiful with the room. You may be able to get two out of one piece. I use to use it to cover my table cloth when kids were little. So I did not have to wash the table cloth all the time.

Hi Emmy....new subscriber here. Your home is so cute and welcoming. My husband and I live in a home built in the very early fifties so just a few years newer than yours. Ours, like yours, has much more personality than the "Fancy Mansions" so in vogue today and we love it, but it is a really good thing that we paid less money than the buyers of today's houses because there have been plumbing and heating issues that required a LOT of replacing of infrastructure. As part of their services the most recent company offered us a payment plan that would have tied us to payments for the best part of TWENTY years! Fortunately we too mostly live below our means, leaving us the financial resources to pay outright for the work that has needed to be done.
