Columbus Ohio area farmers markets are so…expensive. $4 a pound for tomatoes, $2 a pond for imperfect tomatoes, $7 for a gallon size storage bag of lettuce. We drive 60 miles to Millersburg Ohio- Amish country. Go to the bulk food store, also. Their prices can be high too, except on lunchmeat and cheeses. They are priced $3 to $4.50 a pound and also have sales weekly. Always hit up the thrift stores there too, again.. hit or miss.

Thank you for supporting our local farms. ❤

Wished we lived near Lancaster! What a fun trip! Lucky you to find great deals...the loaves of bread was such a deal. I would have picked up more....
Love the jars....I too have a lot is different sizes mason jars for storing stuff...it's nice to freeze things(nuts, yeast, coffee, candy etc) in them for easy access since you can see easily. Freezer door has those little side shelves. I store my buttons, craft supplies mementos in them...you can display too.
Lots of Farmers Markets and local stands off the roads in the country areas here but it can be a hit and miss with pricing.
Gardening is the best....I just got a load of zucchini from our kids. Zucchini bread, stuffed zucchini and zucchini torte...yum.
Your brother Sam is a natural in front of the camera! Those desserts looks sooooo delicious. We eat with our eyes first! I was laughing at the comments where they asked if Sam was married... 😂😂😂😂. Cute!

My bulk store is a chain and not cheap for most things. But I think it's the best way to buy spices because you can spend 50 cents and get enough of a spice/herb to cook a few meals. I do this for the less-used spices. That way I own a wide variety but I don't have to invest $3.99 in a jar of a spice i'll never use up. For common spices and herbs I use a lot, i'll buy the packets at the grocery store rather than jars. I can get a large packet of garlic powder for instance for $2, enough to last a year. The international section of grocery stores is also a great place to find not only spices common to a specific cuisine but also cross-cultural things like garlic. Very large packets for cheap.

Hi again, You were in my back yard again. I shop at all those stores you visited. I am only a few minutes away from all of them. I get the 50cent bread and separate it into 2 slices and baggie it and freeze in the original bag and pull one little baggie out as I need bread. I also get the cheeses and lunch meats at Centerville as well. They also carry jars and lids. At Christmas Centerville has all the needed baking things, candied citrus, cherries all the things to make fruit cakes. They carry whoopie pies and home made bread there also. I got beets and did them in my instant pot and they were delicious. I think you can also get the icing for whoopies, already made and ready to use. Glad you visited us again. Come back soon.

Hello! Boy howdy I’m coveting those beets. I’ve never tried the greens but will now. As for the beets, I “roast” them in my crockpot until tender and eat them cold with goat cheese. Oh my! I’ve been fascinated with the Amish most of my life. There are several communities in Ohio and have taken many many day trips through the various areas. My father-in-law was raised Mennonite and my mother-in-law grew up in Amish country. We don’t visit the area very often because my husband works near Amish country (he’s got an hour commute to work one way) so for him, it’s not a unique day trip. My basil is really producing. I made homemade basil mayonnaise the other day. And I also pulse it with the broth and freeze it in ice cube trays which I then store in freezer bags. Thanks for sharing all of this and your brother with us. His cameos are gold.

Our HOA does not permit gardens so I can only grow a few tomato plants and a few herbs in pots. I love farm markets and bulk stores though. I went to one this past Saturday and bought beautiful zucchini, green beans and garlic. We enjoyed sauteed green beans in that robust garlic and I made zucchini bread as well. So, so good. I've been using a 1 gallon jar to make sun tea. I put water from my Berkey and a gallon size decaf tea bag and I put it out on the porch and in a matter of hours I have beautiful tea. When I was boiling a big pot of water to make the tea it was taking about 35 to 40 minutes to come to a boil on my electric stove. I was doing that every other day and I said this is a crazy amount of electricity I'm using. So that's my money saving tip 🤗💙💜💚💗

I have been purchasing lots of produce at local farmers market.. beets, peaches, Kale, tomatoes etc. . I have frozen some and ate some as my garden is not ready yet. I did recently freeze beet greens for soups and stew in winter!!

I cook rainbow chard the same way as you cook beet greens, except that I finely chop onion and cook it with the stalks, then add the greens as you do. Delicious.

A local farm gave our church some fresh produce there was a lot of rainbow chard no one would hardly take it because no one knew how to cook it so I ended up taking most of it and I cooked it with leftover bacon grease, garlic, onion, and a little bell pepper it was delicious!! I froze the rest so it didn’t spoil!

You and Paul were visiting our neck of the woods, Yes, we are fortunate to live near the farm stands, farmers markets and mennonite and amish grocery outlets. Happy you made the trip. Love seeing the amish farms and their laundry hanging high on their unique washlines.

One great thing that you can do with your food saver lid attachment is to make up fresh salad, put some in pint or quart sized jars, and vac seal to keep fresh in the fridge so that you can grab them all week for lunches.
I love to shop in bulk, but sadly we don't have any bulk stores within a reasonable distance from where we live. I do buy in bulk online and I find it simple to compare prices and find the best price for the quality of item that we want.
We have 3 people who regularly live in our home. Our oldest daughter stays with my Mom (5 miles from us) and she is here now and then, too. When I bulk shop, I keep in mind the 3 'regulars' in our home, plus our daughter and my Mom...and even our son and his family. When we're topped off we can share with others, plus I cook freezer meals for my Mom and daughter. I keep 5 gallon buckets of staples like flour, sugar, popcorn, oats, etc. and I feed into our kitchen supply from those.
This is helpful when "Murphy" (Murphy's Law) shows up. Last November we had the Virus and were at home for 2 straight weeks before we ventured back out. We had everything we needed at home, including medicines (which I mostly make...herbal meds), toiletries, and food. It proved peace of mind for us again when my husband was denied pay at his job for the time he was off due to the Virus. His loss of pay came just before Christmas, which was rough, but we knew we'd be ok with essentials.
    God bless

We live close to an Amish produce auction. I've gone a few times, gotten deals on some onions and potatoes, but I have to be careful, most of the times the bids get to expensive, for me, especially, since I grow most of what they are selling.
I usually want more of the root crops in the fall to store, so I don't have to buy as much from grocery stores.

Your vacuum seal round lid isn't for removing air from jars, it pairs with a storage canister that appears to be missing. Glad you had such a good time down here (I live not far from Lancaster) and made some great purchases.
