Good advice. I was physically active, literally all of my life. I still exercise every day, long walks mostly. For the most part, I ate healthy, not much junk food etc. I am a social drinker and I quit smoking a lifetime ago. My asawa of 22 years ensures that I get the veggies and natural foods I should eat. We both take multivitamins and so on. I do not have high blood pressure. I am on no meds at all. My health is excellent. I have no aches or pains. I should add that I worked in Health Care back in Canada and that was very influential in how I took care of this old body. Most Filipinos, when asked to guess my age, are floored. Some start at 50, some at 55, some at 60, even 65. I keep saying 'higher, higher'. Most give up at about 75. They are floored when I tell them that in December, I will have completed 79 trips around the sun. Good health is crucial if one retires in the Philippines. It is more fun in Davao. 😉
excellent!
I've been on a healthy diet for the last 2 years and I feel so much happier and energized and lost a lot of weight
Good advice Reekay. I did Keto for a while but still had a lot of pain from old war wounds. I decided to try the Carnivore diet Dr. Ken Berry advocates on TH-cam. It changed my life tremendously for the better. I’m as healthy as I was in high school (minus the injuries) and the pain levels are so much better.
While Keto is good. Carnivore is Keto on steroids.
It’s good to see you’re taking care of yourself. You’re certainly a responsible husband.
Congrats Robert! You made the right choice. Carnivore is the Proper Human Diet. I'm at my lowest ever weight right now (153 lbs; 6'0 tall, 65 yo male). I never thought this would be possible living here in the Philippines married to a carb addicted filipina. I cannot convince her to switch to carnivore, or even keto for that matter. But I can control what I eat. Carnivore is way more simple than trying to figure out what to eat on keto.
Those aches and pains are from inflammation caused by those seed oils. Inflammation is at the heart of most disease. Many vegetables, beans, nuts etc also have lectins which also cause inflammation.
yes, i don't eat most nuts or seeds. mainly brazilian nuts, pistachios, almonds.
Best message ever for this site. Love it right on what needs to be said.
Nobody is coming to save you, you have to step up and make the changes.Eat whole foods, exercise regularly, sleep well, and reduce stress. Supplements come last.
Hi from Calape, Bohol 😊
Well said.
Great video! I agree 100%. I eat the same way, meat and veggies, No smoking, rare alcohol. One or two meals/day. Occasional cheat days that I always regret because it takes 2-3 days to get back into ketosis. Thank you Reekay! Your videos are a public service, and a gold mine for planning-to-be expats.
thanks!
I escaped the US partly because people tried so hard to take me off my conscious eating, positive optimistic healthy lifestyle. My older medical doctor alcoholic brother tried so hard to have me join his rapid decline with his excessive lifestyle. I love myself and treat myself accordingly. I don’t drink, don’t go to bars, keep my stress to a minimum and love my fully engaged, interesting, happy and meaningful life. Right on Reekay. We are on the same path.
Benjamin Franklin made decisions by drawing a vertical line down the center of a page. On one side he listed reasons to do a particular thing. On the other side he listed reasons to not do that thing. When I decided to stop drinking I did that. On one side I wrote the word fun, the other side was filled up. Easy decision.
That was a very good presentation Reekay - Thankyou
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your really learning your nutrition Reekay me too it’s amazing all the bad crap we did consume 👍
So close! Come on 100 K
almost there. :)
Just a reminder for us older dudes. We need to push weights around and load our tissues. If not, we will just shrivel away.
Yip, gotta stay away from sarcopenia
Heavy weight (6 to 12 reps per set) resistance training is vital for aging adults.
Everything in moderation. I think that's part of the expat mentality that they're retired now so they should be able to live however they want. It's evident even here in the states after retirement people just stop caring and taking care of themselves or rely heavily on popping pills. It Is What It Is.
For me, I came to the decision of what did I want my future self to experience. Healthy and active is all I wanted. So, in being disciplined and remaining conscious of my daily choices, my Future self, in general, is pretty please with the decisions and actions my past self has chosen to take. I like knowing I am responsible for the life I GET to experience. Peace ☮
Thank you dad
You're not wrong... last year I made different choices about my health. And let's face it, these ARE "choices." 100%. One of my favorite quotes is "We are ALL self-made men... but only the successful admit it." I moderated my portion sizes, reduced my caloric intake to about 1500 a day, increased my protein intake and reduced carbs, I take a brisk 30 minute walk every day, and lay in a red light therapy pod for 15 minutes every night before I go to bed. I also cut my alcohol consumption down to about 2-3 drinks a week. Now, at nearly 60 years of age, I'm wearing a size 32 waist pant, small or medium shirts, and I weigh 170 at 5'10." Choices, people... it's all about choices...
One of the things that I noticed moving to the Philippines, fruits, veggies, chicken are smaller than the US. Thats because they dont genetically modify, and boost chicken with hormones. So you are already eating healthier
good point.
And the cows are naturally grass fed because the farmers cannot afford to buy grains.
I thought you were going to say the motive for the fountain of youth was the young Filipinas the men meet as soon as they step off the plane.
They also help. 😊
Speaking the Truth In Love. Thank you for those who needed to hear this. The Owners Manual For Life, aka The BIBLE, instructs us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices, whole and acceptable unto God. It is a sacrifice initially to eat right and exercise, but the benefits are for a lietime. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
blessings to you and yours too!
@@Lifebeyondthesea Thank you! 😊
This is s great message even for young men and women too
I wish I had known about carnivore diet when I was younger. But better late than never.
Great stuff Reekay. I ahve been working on my diet for years and finally shed about 30 pounds and am about down to my high school weight . I bounce between 170-175 now @ 5'11" and feel so much better. Got to work on other things but that is a good start. Appreciate your posts always!
that is awesome. :)
The healthy oils are olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil. Avoid partially hydronated/hydronated oils aka trans fats. 3 grams of fish oil every day with fat for a healthy heart. Also resistant training in the gym.
totally agree. olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil are great choices. avoiding trans fats is super important for health. taking 3 grams of fish oil daily is a smart move as well.
Great message, we all can use the remainder. Why bother making it to the Philippines and finding a good woman if you wont live long enough to enjoy it?
Click on it; you're going to need it.
Hi Reekay,Enzo from Melbourne,Australia sending greetings. It seems like yesterday l was following you while you were living in Bohol.😊😊😊
So cool!
Sugar causes inflammation as well.
yes. even avoiding all the sugar you can, you'll still end up with too much sugar sneaking in. sugar also has horrible effects on blood cells.
With health being my No.1 priority, I've watched my diet and exercise throughout my entire life. But no matter how proactive I have been, I can only do what I know, and the dietary recommendations have drastically changed throughout the years. Through majority of my life span, the FDA has been pushing the food pyramid which recommends the majority of your diet consists of starches and minimized the consumption of meats and fats (remember how they were pushing margarine over butter?) . I never knew about Keto or All Protein diets until recently. I tried the Keto diet, and it definitely helps with weight loss, but a part of me wonders what affects they will find in the future. I have heard several friends comment that it can put a strain on kidneys. I just stick to a balanced diet now, and the key is moderation.
Carnivore diet does not put a strain on the kidneys. That is a lie. I highly recommend you watch videos by Dr Anthony Chaffee, Dr Ken Berry, and Dr Paul Mason.
I've been doing that for a while now. I quit driving, thus I walk a lot (up to 15 miles a day, with an average half of that). I'm also taking care of my food. I only use olive oil (hence I've taken out all fried things... it's too expensive to fry things!)
I been here 7 yrs, have d/l but never drive once. Increases stress & laziness. I as well walk pretty much everywhere & everyone seems to notice/know me.
Amen brother 😂
🎉I was totally on Keto when I came to SE Asia, but you can't keep it up here. That's just the way it is, unless you cook everything yurself that is. I do stay away from rice and too processed food here though, which isn't always easy. In Thailand they thought you were a freak if you didn't eat rice, in the Ph ppl are more tolerant in my opinion.
About alcohol, it's usually blasted on a regular basis by gov't/media in my home country, nowadays yur more or less a criminal if yur 'n older white dude who drinks Then you had this doctor, she's well known in the media, she gave a lot of advice during Covid. She said about alcohol, ppl who don't drink have higher mortality than those who do, those are the stats. Sure, if you drink too much, it can turn bad, but you also have lots of folks who live longer than non-drinkers, it expands the veins. After that I haven't seen her much in the papers anymore. 😄
yes, my wife and i can do keto in the PH easily because we each know how to cook. we dine-out maybe 2 or 3 times a month. all our other meals we prepare at home to be keto-friendly.
but dining out for majority of meals, in any country will at best be costly and at worst.. not keto at all.
@@Lifebeyondthesea Sounds great ! I figure you have a decent kitchen.
I've lived in hotel rooms or small condos for a while now so I don't cook that much. There are some decent restaurants where I live though, so that's good. Aside from the rice, I'd say the oils they use are an issue. Mostly vegetable oils as I've gathered, which may sound good, but they're really processed and probably more bad than good for you. Hence I also try to cook at home regularly so I can use better stuff like sweet potatoes and olive oil. But of course, sometimes it's nice to go out and eat, gets you out of the house if nothing else 🌞🌞🌞
In yur 60's the immune system weakens & the smoke/booze will catch up. Me, I walk/exercise constantly @ 67.990 yrs. I zumba 2x wk. for 5 yrs. now & most say I'm very good too & probably lose 2k water each time. As we age it's just easier to make excuses not to do things instead of challenging ourselves. My vice is the 2 donuts I enjoy 3x /week. 🤠
LOST 85 pounds on KETO. I eat one to two meal a day, KETO (no pasta, no sugar, no floor,) I eat manly eggs, cheese ( strong cheddar only) and fish (Tuna, Sardine) and nuts (Almonds, Grenoble) I lost 85 pounds. BE WEARY OF TOO MUCH MEAT, the problem with meat, is that it taste so so so good, you tend to eat a lot of it. Eggs and cheese is less tasty, it helps you eat reasonably. BONUS = When you fast, your body temp drops a little and it's WAY EASIER to tolerate HEAT ..... like Philippine's heat. So 4X BONUSES. 1- Health 2- Weight 3- Cost (cheaper = equal even if you eat better) 4- Easier to tolerate heat.
awesome!!
If you eat fatty red meat you will find it difficult to overeat. Animal fat is very satiating and will curb your appetite for hours and hours.
So it's not hard doing keto carnivore in PI? I heard they like a lot of sugar's and fried foods.
since filipino food is not keto, you can't do keto eating local foods. it has too many carbs, sugars, vegetable oil and MSG.
the way my wife and i eat healthy is we cook about 98% of our meals at home. we buy whole foods, meat.. veggies, and cook it ourselves.
@@Lifebeyondthesea just like here in The US. California is easier to find no Seed oils eating out, but still cook from home mostly. Is the ground beef hard to come bye?
Thanks for your time and help.
hey what's up you never talk about sexual health with younger women
Philippines is poor in nutrition supply,in food variety.
the simple fact is that 'most' filipino foods are very high in vegetable oil, carbs, sugar, salt and/or MSG.
some of the soups are good, such as pork sinigang. sisig is a good, high-fat dish as well as lechon.
I buy my ground beef at PureGold in Subic Bay. It's a 30 to 40 minute drive but I found it's the best ground beef in my area (Balanga City, Bataan). All the other stores near me, the ground beef tastes terrible and it has bits of bone and cartilage mixed in and I suspect they mix it with some nasty fillers. The ground beef in Subic has no bone chunks or cartilage. I believe the reason for the higher quality beef in Subic is there are many expats living there and I'm sure PureGold knows that expats want real beef.
MSG=Make Sh!t Good 😂
It doesn't matter where you go, you have to take charge of your diet
