    Wow, I'm 50, from Michigan as well and this week will be my 7th month here in the Philippines. I can't believe how similar of an experience your guest has had to my own as an expat. I do believe you are mostly what you attract. Most, if not all of what this man said has been parallel to my experience when it comes to dating here and having the best transitioning experience possible. I sold my home, equipment, and one of my automobiles and never looked back! When I meet an expat I don't think they really get me when I express to them how happy I truly am here or how good I've been treated by the locals. You can have a Top-Tier experience in a developing country without spending thousands that you'll never get back and having the worst possible outcome as if it were your destiny. You could make it nicely if you needed to on a 1,000.00 monthly budget. Live Ike a Filipino and as he said, expand from there add the little things as you go.

    Now here are 2 gentlemen that have walked the "landmines of the filipina dating scene" Now look at the risk of a man who does not have the luxury of living in PI. You meet a nice fiiipina and go to meet her. It does not work out you now have to go back home without a relationship and start all over again. Meantime you spent 3k-5k up in smoke and time to rebuild your savings account for the trip next year. It took Reekay about 10 years before he found the love of his life and he lived there full time! Congrats to Reekay.

      That was my 2018 and my 2019. I was even engaged. But it's VERY hard to really know someone through your phone and limited visits. That's why I decided if I was serious, I had to sacrifice and move here. But it's certainly not for everyone.

    If there is a blueprint for how to move to another country, this guy would be a good choice. The planning and preparation was thoroughly done and his transition into a new life was smooth. There are certain things that have to be done in the new country that no one really prepares a guy for, but the major things that will make/beak the experience are obvious and should be accountable for. He will have a successful and fulfilling life there.

    I really like that he said to be honest with girls about your intentions upfront instead of breaking their hearts later. I was completely honest with every girl when I was there last year (and I was in Bohol and Panglao too!). It definitely makes it harder as many girls drop off when you tell them you're only there on vacation, but at least I can sleep well at night.

    I appreciate this person sharing his personal story and experience securing his remote employment. This man sounds smart, respectful and very genuine with a kind heart. I am just starting to seek work I can also do remotely from the Philippines. I haven’t decided which type of work to focus on yet. I’m researching options. I’m an Environmental Engineer, Teacher, writer and health care professional. I’ve been teaching English in Japan, but am motivated to leave and begin a new life in the PHs. Thank you for all your advice! This information is very helpful.

    • @Lifebeyondthesea
      @Lifebeyondthesea  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      yes, it can be done.. working remotely. but it does take a bit of homework to find a reliable job.
      a side-hobby of mine the last few years has been to check out these "online income gurus" on youtube, since 2020. and i've yet to find one that can actually deliver the hype they put out.

    • @ShikokuFoodForest
      @ShikokuFoodForest 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@Lifebeyondthesea Haha... I discovered the exact same thing (and hype!). I started watching these online-work gurus on TH-cam several months ago as well. They make it sound so easy to secure all kinds of gigs online to generate so many revenue streams. After a few months, I figured out, their leads and advice are not so easy after all. I eventually gave up and have been thinking of my own strategies since. It’s still a work-in-progress, which I had to momentarily put on hold to secure new work in Japan in order to renew my visa here, so I am allowed to stay in this country until my exit plan is finalized. I’ll eventually figure it out.

I’ll have about $100k in savings that would have to last me 3 years until I get my 401k, which will hold me over till I get my Pension and SS. We used the GoMo prepaid monthly while visiting there and we thought it was great being in the province. Now there is a hybrid PLDT connection that my niece use as a call center agent working from home. On another note, I really think people who make comments about Filipinas as gold diggers don't know what they're talking about. My take on that is that it depends on where you're looking for a partner and as with any relationships my advise is take it slow and get to know the girl better. Don't fall head over heels right away like some expats. Anyway, good to see you again, @LifeBeyondTheSea, welcome back!

    HOLY CRAP this was helpful! I'm also planning to keep my current job working from home. Targeting Cagayan de Oro for the strong internet really narrows my search area, given my needs. If you can live like a king on 1500 a month, I'm going to practically be Caesar while still maxing my 401k and Roth contributions. But the internet bit was easily the most helpful to me.

      Be aware that although Cagayan de Oro may have good internet and fewer brownouts, the city itself and location is horrible. Most expats live up on the hill in Lumbia. The traffic, pollution, and water are terrible. Davao area is a much better option.

    Great interview. I toyed with a trial run working US Pacific hours. Doable but tough. Like he said, one’s internet connection must be on point.
    Also, important point made easing the idea into your employer’s mind. My manger is a go, but his superiors are thinking of the time difference so, no go, for now.
    Still, I may try it for a month in a few years once my youngest is 18+ when I plan to go the contract route anyway.
    I thought originally Cebu, but prefer Bohol for a longer stretch. Still, I’ll test both when the time comes.

      for a first trip, i highly recommend landing in cebu (not manila). then take a ferry (2-hours) to Bohol and/or nearby Panglao. very tropical, beaches, resorts, restos and not a big metro-city. but still has malls and all the needed amenities.

    One of the best interviews I have ever heard !!! I have been to the Philippines 🇵🇭 and plan on living there before retirement! I can easily live very well with for 1200 per month! People argue with me constantly on this ! Lol 😂
    My monthly budget would be 2k with a 50k emergency fund !
    It’s totally doable but you just have to be prepared ! Thx 🙏

      @jeremysautomobile 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow, thank you for your kind words (I'm the one in the interview). It really is doable. We fool ourselves into thinking we need things that we don't. The key is, look at how locals are living, and start there. I see families living on $300 a month here. I actually think I could live on 500 a month here if I wanted to...IF I wanted to....haha. But I have my Aircon going as I type this, so I guess I'm still too soft...haha

      @jeremysautomobile you did s bold move though if you are relying on the job you just got. I am almost your age, well one year older. Our pension kicks in at 65. I have been working remotely for the last 7 years but my contract won't be renewed next year😢. Luckily I never took that remote job for granted and used the money and the flexibility to buy assets and do a bit of traveling. Now back to you, how do you know that the job will continue for the next 12 years or so until pension .?

    This interviewee's responses were insightful, thoughtful, experienced. Honestly this guy should have his own channel because he is able to articulate his experiences in such a way that it's clear and understandable as well as wise. I particularly liked the part where he's talking about making a decision if you're going to date a woman with a child, that the father is not in the picture, that you're willing to make this lifelong commitment, not just with the woman but also with the child. I would probably have a caveat to that that unless you are very serious about this woman, you really shouldn't be a part of that kid's life and should be looking at him as the interviewee described but at a distance and not creating a personal relationship with this child. Because if you leave this woman and you created a relationship with the child, you're going to break that child's heart and emotionally cause issues because if you leave that child's life, they're going to consider all men and this is how their relationship is supposed to look at, coming into a woman's life and then leaving her life. Well done, great interview.

So if I go to bed at 6:30pm and get up at 2am to prepare. So this means I sleep when it's dark and get enough sleep. Then from 11am to 6:30 am, I stay up.

      I know you’re going to hate me for this but I just want to give you my advice. I had many friends that had dogs after divorces that they treated like children the dogs are awesome and I love animals also but they are in the end dogs if you put 100% effort into finding them great homes you would be able to leave it’s not worth missing out on life to take care of pets, I’m not saying throw them away but really are you going to give up life to take care of animals? Like I said I know you won’t agree but that’s just my two cents. I hope you do well if I misunderstood your question, I apologize.

    I believe Internet link via Starlink Satellite would be more reliable along with a good capacity back up battery, or two. The Low Earth Orbit satcom link should work well in the province or the city as long as you have a clear view of the sky. I am not sure how reliable Starlink would be during the monsoon and typhoon season. No cabling required, but rain attenuation is a concern I would have.
