    I’ll say my piece about the dct. I personally don’t think the dct detracts that much from the manual version. From driving both, I think the dct is almost as engaging without a lot of the effort needed from the manual. Why? The dct does not function like a torque converter automatic. It actually has a lot of the same characteristics you would typically find in a manual which I think is actually a turn off to a lot of less enthusiast minded people (see the change in the g-series). The dct in the m2 is very theatrical which I love and I wouldn’t have opted for an auto if it it were a torque converter. When going fast, the dct gives a very nice slam on your back when you upshift which I think adds a lot of character and theater. the downshifts are lightning quick and perfectly matched and that n55 sounds so nice. If you live in a very hilly city like me, the manual might be more trouble than it is worth. Of course, this could come off as a lot of cope lmao. TLDR, just drive both

I have logged 0-60 in 3.3 and feel thats very good for a few mods. Pure stage 2 turbo is only $2500 for another 100 hp putting it around 600 give or take a few hp. the n55b alos sounds better than the S55. The Comp OEM muffler hangs low and is horrible.

    Crank hub affects the M2, M3, and the M4’s s55 engine. It’s also a topic that is blown out of proportion a tonn, don’t let that stop you from getting an M4. I just got one going on two months 😉

    • @ThicWhips
      @ThicWhips  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Correct, it affects the s55 engine only. If you plan on tuning your car, adding modifications to the engine, etc..you should 100% fix your crank hub. Why even take that risk? It’s just like the rod bearings in the s65..sure..you can gamble, and maybe you’ll be fine. But I’d hate to call the bluff and lose an engine because you thought it was blown out of proportion. I know enough s55 guys to also know this is a very real problem.

    I just got a '21 model year M2 Comp. It's really pretty great. You know how it seems like there's always something -- cars, guitars, watches, whatever. But in this case there's not really anything, no letdowns. I just love the car, period, and that includes its usability as just my transportation. Northeast Winters will be another story, we'll see how that goes. And I'm sure you're right, i.e. that I'd have loved a non-Comp version just fine. Haven't even had the break-in service, so I don't even know what it can do, but I'm real good with it. I also agree that three pedals is the only way to fly.

I've put on a full AA equal length non-res catback exhaust so the exhaust sound is FIXED. Driving and steering feel so damn good. Lots of power in a small car, pulls like a freight train. newer piston rings, It also received a reshaped oil pan and a new oil drain pump, to allow for better circulation during more extreme circumstances than it was normally put under. Additional oil coolers have also been fitted to insure that, during the sort of driving that the M2 is capable of, there’s no loss in power" the m235i engine is exactly the same apart from those things you also get the forged internals so don’t feel bad if you have an m235i and don’t think you have a stronger engine if you bought the m2, now the m240i becomes a real bargain since that has the b58 sure it’s not an s58 but still ...

I am now in a m2 comp and in my opinion there is a night and day difference, however is the price jump worth it? I'd say yes if you can afford it then most definitely but the n55 is one hell of a car and you won't be disappointed with it. The dct seems to work better with the S55 also.

A friend of mine who is the service manager at a local car dealership (they sell mainly German cars) said that though they do not get many M2s to work on, the N55 is a pretty robust engine with little problems which is a draw for me. Couple that with that gorgeous N55 growl and I just don't have a use for the Competition.

    People who say that the OG M2 "isn't a real M2" don't understand what M is about. It's about A) having the BMW M division have their crack at performance modifying the car (check!) B) it's about nimble handling (check!) C) it's about being connected to the road (moderate check, but as good as the Comp.) Fits all the check boxes! An M car has never been about an "S" engine, or the seats, or the winglet side mirrors. It's about an ethos rather than the superfluous.
    RE the N55 vs the S55: The acceleration between the OG M2 and the M2 Comp is almost identical, despite the M2 Comp having more HP/TQ. That's only possible if the weight is commensurately greater as well, which it is. If two cars have identical acceleration, I'll pick the lighter car every time. Lighter is better for cornering, stopping, nimbleness, weight distribution, etc.

    • @nessuno5403
      @nessuno5403 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The M2 is a cheap, somewhat premature M car. The acceleration is indeed close, but that means you're only accounting for straight line performance up to a point. The M2C will eat th OG M2 alive at the top end beyond the milestone 0-60mph, just as it does against the Supra. It's a beast. It also, ironically, has the better (improved) ride and handling. The OG M2 is more nimble, but that makes it more ordinary and too close for comfort to a mere M240i with the better B58. The OG is rightfully put down, but an awesome machine if value for money is concerned.

People who are buying the M2 Competition are not car lovers, they just want to flex. Because any car lover will go for the OG M2. It looks better, sounds better, handles better,... If I were you I'd go for a 2016 or 2017 M2 (pre-LCI version), they look and sound even better. You'll have so much fun with this.

    They didn't "intentionally" leave things out of the OG M2 to give people incentive to buy the competition at all, the competition wasn't even an idea when the OG came out. The original was changed due to emissions/noise etc and basically outlawed hence the M3/M4 engine going in to pass emissions and noise tests.
