@Dimitri Telvanni Trust me hun, I feel your pain. My ps4 literally just said "you know, I really don't like living anyway" and I'm having to have it repaired RIGHT AS A NEW EVENT ON ESO LAUNCHES! Let us mourn our consoles together, my friend
My friend, I was born in 1978. I was 15 when Arena came out. I had the privilege of going through each game chronologically. With Arena, you could see they were on to an ambitious and highly desired premise, with the be who you want do what you want being what caught my eye when i went to Babbages to spent my first pay check ever from Taco Bell. I chose Arena and its one of the best decisions ever. The Elders Scrolls, in its entirety, is the greatest gaming experience of my perfectly timed life. If any of you have your stories, I would love to hear em.
I started with Oblivion during the Skyrim hype in 2012 (I was 11 and was to young to buy Skyrim) I loved everything about it. Than I convinced my parants to by my the Elder Scrolls anthology and played Skyrim and Morrowind (I did not finish Morrowind until 2017 or 18, because I lost my old file) than ESO came out and I fell in love with mmo's, 2016 Elder Scrolls Legends followed that introduced me to card games and 2019 I also played blades. I now played all Elder Scrolls games (except Shadowkey because there is no way to play it) and finished them all except Arena, Daggerfall and Blades (and I did not finish the early mobile games like Oblivion mobile, and the other TES Travels game, but those don't really count in my opinion). I loved them all except Battlespire (and the travels games of course) because that game had terrible gameplay and no polish, even if the character creation and the lore were fun.
Morrowind consumed my 6th and 7th grade life, I sucked everything out of that game, every single quest, explored every inch, made spells that could decimate entire villages, killed every important character, man and It was a bargain bin grab for my new xbox original, got hitman 2 the same day, that game sat on the shelf for months, soon as I realized you can be a thief and rob peoples silverware to make gold I was hooked like a tweaker.
I got into Skyrim around the beginning of the pandemic this year, it gave me another world to get lost in while the one we currently live in kinda sucked.
@@KidzOnly yes it is. look at the flu and pneumonia numbers especially normal fly numbers are almost 0 that is impossible how we suddenly cured the normal flu when covid came
I definitely miss all of the booklets and guides. My 42 year old self was appaulled a few number of years back when the game "manual" I found in a newly purchased game was a two sided, greyscale printout. Scandalous!
I'm a little older and had a car before video games were a thing. I remember sitting in the store parking lot reading the manual because I didn't want to wait the 1 1/2 hrs it would take to drive home before looking at the it.
I agree. The cosmology and the different, at times outright contradictory, interpretations of it make Tamriel seem real to me. Like it could be a real place.
Retcon I couldn’t agree more. Like when you really start digging in and thinking about it, I feel like there’s next to no way TES would have the kind of longevity that it does. And I don’t just mean the games themselves, I also/more specifically mean the decades long lore debates that continue to take place across all kinds of internet forums and platforms. Everyone sees _everything_ differently, because we all go into these discussions, or the games, or whatever, with our own unique life experiences and biases behind us. I mean it’s honestly something I could probably go on forever about. I won’t right now lol, but it’s just amazing how all of these different aspects of TES come together, and create something truly, and uniquely special. Just......Lorkhan bless this one of a kind gift to humanity. I have no idea where I’d be without it. ♥️♥️
There are only two universes that really seem possible to me. That is the TES universe and the VTM universe. Ofcourse both are completely different from another in theme and athmosphere and ofcourse the latter is even closer to the real wordl than TES is. But outside that, well I dunno. I'd consider Warhammer 40k also possible if there weren't so many retcons and things going wrong for the sake of keeping things grimdark. A good universe has good times and bad times.
TES feels real because the world building acknowledges an aspect of uncertainty in history that even we have in our history, History is ultimately just stories being passed down through generations, as such they get changed becoming something different, and that's an aspect TES does right, it leaves a level of interpretation in history, as well as having so much lore and history in itself.
Exactly! Its ill defined and just like dark souls if you dont define your story and leave it open to interpretation than nobody is wrong and gets to hide behind things like "well thats just how I interprited it", and when things do need to be worked around cos youd burst your "I'm the main character" fanboys who cant have their ill defined head cannon ruined.... you just make a dragon break.
Same. I love TES the same for the same reasons. The world is complex yet relatable to our world, and our fictions of cosmos or mythologies are turned into a fantasy video game. Religion system is diverse but worships the same Gods and Goddesses. Even with the existence of magic and deities on the mortal realm capable of doing anything, there will still be conflicts.
I really liked Elder Scrolls, but after I starting watching the hours and hours and hours and hours of FudgeMuppet videos, diving into the deep lore of Elder Scroll, it has become my favorite fantasy setting of all time. Thank you guys for really showing me the secrtets of this wonderful world.
EXACTLY! The games and media do such a poor job of showing/telling us all this cool stuff that the only rrason its seems well done is because of the awesome effort by youtubers like fudge! If a toy company sells me a broken toy and my dad fixes it and also informs me of the cool lore of the toy that was never mentioned anywear on the product, I dont give credit to the toy company.
I LOVE that you can acknowledge the weaknesses of the franchise, while still absolutely loving it. I get so tired of the hate from “fans.” I am especially happy that you can appreciate ESO.
Had to check it out after reading the comments, indeed some whiffs of briliance in the few vid's i checked! I'd love to see a 'serious' project of yours in full movie length:)
I am personally inspired by the Elder Scrolls series to make a series that's as derivative and creative friendly as it is. I can't make a game series, but I can make a lore base in the same vein that others can endlessly play in. Four walls and a ceiling are a house, let people know the decorations and utilities within aren't holding it up sort of thing. Get rid of the tub if you like, replace it with a futuristic sound-powered cleaning devise if they'd rather, I want to (as the writers with Bathesda have so far) let the people playing in this world there's room for that here. My world (like the Elder Scrolls world) is your oyster.
I love making up fictional worlds in my head. Today I got a really good idea for one, it's meant to seem a little generic at first, but then as you dig deeper and deeper you realize how strange it is. Spirits and shapeshifters in particular are weird. Spoiler below, though I don't think I'll do anything with the world. It comes from a nuclear apocalypse on a space age planet. With a giant underground telepathic computer server functioning as the spirit world, and creating magic for them. All the weird creatures are a combination of genetic engineering and radioactive mutations. It fits in to an extended universe with a lot of the fictional world's I made up.
You spelled out exactly why I love Elder Scrolls as a franchise, especially the lore, themes, and philosophies. I'm Argor working as one of the leads (writing and 3D Art) on Beyond Skyrim Cyrodiil, and I started out with the series much like you did. My love for the series has never been for the games or stories themselves, but for the stories I was able to make, or in terms of the video, interpret from the vague and open-minded worldbuilding of the series. It's the one reason I'm still working on Beyond Skyrim, to continue those original themes and share them with others - to let them design their own stories in this world of wonder, and to counter potential future degredation of the series into generic fantasy and titles like ESO, which in my opinion always told the lore too explicitly, and tried to cannonize things, whereas the base games always keep things vague and unconfirmed. Oh, and thanks for the Beyond Skyrim shoutout Scott!
Cant wait to see some of what you and the crew are working on! Beyond Bruma is amazing in and of its self, the whole scope of what is planned by the beyond team is absolutely mind blowing!
Playing Bruma right now, actually PHENOMENAL work. The feeling i got entering Cyrodiil and seeing the hazy image of the White-Gold tower was something I hadn't felt in a long time, not to mention the quest and dialogue design is so good it honestly makes the entire base game seem lacking. You guys are BEYOND talented, and I really can't wait for what comes next
As an Elder Scrolls lore fanatic and fan since Morrowind, this video was everything I've ever wanted in life. Incredibly enjoyable to watch. Thanks for your hard work on this!
When I was younger I’d spend hours watching my stepfather play Skyrim, I didn’t know what it was called but I loved it- the only thing I could remember was lockpicking because he sucked at it so bad. I grew up with LOTR, D&D sessions and general fantasy and found myself totally immersed- I loved living another life with no attachments! I didn’t play the elder scrolls series until I was about 14 and going through a rough time, I made a khajiit barbarian.. cause cats are awesome and because stress relief. I’ll never forget my first character daphine and how fucking badass she was- she married janessa and was a werewolf as well. Then I found oblivion not knowing there were MORE to the story... there went another few months! I have yet to play morrowind myself but I’ve binged gameplay videos of it and can’t wait. I haven’t been able to immerse myself fully in a while because I end up modding it so damn much.. I think I’ll just delete all mods and play the game vanilla (besides a few mechanic saving mods). All in all these stories really shaped and influenced my artwork and inspirations, I truly cannot wait to see what else they have in store for us...
Hey my story us quite similar to yours. Only differences is that I watched my Step dad play Oblivion then my first Elder Scrolls games was Skyrim. After that I played Oblivion for a bit. I didn't know wtf I was doing in Oblivion. I just explored and left the main story untouched really lmao. But I love the Elderscrolls and it's definitely and Inspiration for creating your own fantasy world. Definitely gets the lore whore and writer in me happy
My first game was Skyrim (like most Gen Z I'll bet) and I have to say I think that was an incredible introduction because it's so basic and accessible that I decided to go back to the older games and try them out, starting with Oblivion.
I was getting ready for bed, since its like 3 am rn. I make my bed and get all comfy, but then I realize I left the fan light on. I'm about to get up but I accidentally pressed buttons on my phone. And now I'm here watching my favorite elder scrolls lore youtuber while giving into this comfy spot im in. Sleep can wait. P.S. it's always great listening to people who are as passionate as me and many other fans of the elder scrolls.
I've been watching Camel for a while now and he's always talking about your channel and I never visited until now and I think I could watch your content every hour of the day and not get bored. I love your takes on everything! I've been into fantasy writing for a while but I never really thought too much into why people like fantasy, you've opened my eyes. I love the explanation of nostalgia, this is way more philosophical than I expected from an Elder Scrolls video.
The first four minutes narration…..That was me! Except I wasn’t eleven…I was 43, but the excitement and awe was the same. Leaving the sewar grate and staring across to Vilverin across the water for the first time. The experience was magical. Now…CHIM…Oh yes. My Skyrim ‘game character’ (Adella) was subjected within a journal I wrote as we gamed…nothing unusual for a fan…but then, in journal, she began to notice the meta as we played. The blackout during carriage rides…npc ‘pop-in’ glitches etc She broke the forth wall to ask ME about game peculiarities. The journal became a kind of book or screenplay…eventually in this meta state she became self aware of Skyrim as a game…ie. CHIM. I gave her a presence in our world in Bethesda’s own gaming forum and she was largely accepted as both a kind of sincere complex role play and a consistent enduring personality in her own right, enacted through me of course, but behaving as…well…real; and persists to this day, though sadly not in Beth, since they closed their forum space down, but she has other forum friends now. So when I play Skyrim I am not in the game myself, but instead guide, mentor and aid the third person screen presence of…her. Now in other games, if she can be created, she can exist there too with her same traits. It has been an interesting journey.
My start with TES was pretty similar to yours, but with Skyrim. For the longest time, my friends had been bugging me to play Oblivion, saying that I'd love it, but I for whatever reason never checked it out. Then when I found out Skyrim was coming out, same thing. Friends started bugging me to get it. I got it for Christmas in 2011 when I had just turned 15. I called up a couple of my friends the next day, and for about 3 days straight we went around and explored Skyrim. Every cave, every fort, any area we could find, we went through with a fine-toothed comb. One memory in particular that stands out is one night I couldn't sleep, so I was playing a bit more while my friends slept. I got to Shearpoint and was fighting the dragon there, and got close enough to trigger Krosis popping out of his coffin. I shook my friends awake and we basically took turns getting ragdolled by Krosis until we finally took him down about 30 or so minutes later. Then it turned out the enchantments on the mask were perfect for my Bosmer thief, so that made the victory all the sweeter. Seeing the word wall with all 3 words on it was a nice bonus, too. The world of the Elder Scrolls had me hooked from then on, and I went back and played Oblivion for the first time a couple years ago. Sometime soon I plan on getting Morrowind and starting it for the first time as well.
This was I great video, I was really excited when you mentioned open source lore, one of my personal favorite lore was the idea that the Argonians aren't just lizards given human figures by The Hist, but that they are something of trees themselves, that their scales closely resemble tree bark and it'd also explain the fact that some of them have leaves. Now I know to lore buffs that may seem incredibly stupid, but that's just what I like to believe.
Thank you for mentioning Michael Kirkbride, he didn't get the attention he deserved, I just hope that we can see him doing writings for The Elder Scrolls with BGS Again.
this is my favorite video of yours and i’ve seen tons of them! i love love love the nostalgia trip you gave me. like thousands of others, i had a bunch of near-identical childhood experiences you explained. thank you for that!
Honestly the best part about Elder Scrolls has always been the huge amount of lore there is. I feel like it's on the same level as One Piece and Lord of the Rings. It's a shame Bethesda is departing from really merging it into to the game. Miss when in Morrowind the game tells you that might as well not play if you won't even bother reading the books. Wish ES6 would introduce questing that directly relates to lore and expects you to read and learn about the lore to progress or complete. Wishful thinking really.
Well you can play most of Morrowind and ignore the lore, the game never tells you that you have to. Elder Scrolls is about playing how you want so a game forcing you to read a lore book that you are not interested on, is not really a good idea for a TES game.
I am 40. I work long hours, and relax at home with family but also Skyrim. It’s my power down mode where I can relax my mind, not think about work and just disappear into the serenity of Skyrim. I can’t play multi or online, I cherish the quiet loneliness.
My grandmother used to tell me stories about the old days, a time of peace when Akatosh kept balance between the Men, Ork, Kajit, and Argonians. But that all changed when the Mer attacked. Only Akatosh could stop the ruthless elves, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years have passed and the Mer is nearing victory in the War.
@@FortuneZer0 Esbern and I discovered the lastborn of Akatosh, the Dovahkiin. And although his Thu'um is great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe Dovahkiin can save Mundus.
@@FortuneZer0 Mer were the Old Ehlnofey who were in Tamriel since the begining. It was the arrival of Men who lead to the sundering of Aldmeris and, therefore, the chaos. Literally same story. Oblivion captured me like no other, it was my first epic-scale RPG and it is still my favorite game of all time. Just hearing your story about picking up and starting Oblivion gave me goosebumps. My late father bought it for me on my 13th birthday (on Xbox) and I spent the next two hours in his room making my Nord knight, and when I had to go to bed all I could think about was Oblivion. Since that day, I've put thousands of hours into it. I'll always be grateful that he introduced me to this incredible universe.
I got to say I have never played it but after listening to you. Makes me want to try it out! You can sure explain and tell a hell of a story. Where I’m at work just listening to you, and drifting into a new world but is so very wonderful and immersive. Very impressive thanks for entertaining me at work! Cheers 🍻 I found this channel through cyberpunk!
there is no fantasy world like the elderscrolls i only got into it two years ago and its the best fantasy world i have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. seriously i hope to see more from this IP. Edit. I read the wheel of time I love asiof I love attack on titan, Harry Potter and Lord of the rings but tes is the only world I can live in
This purple pulp dude has around 11 comments in this channel and theyre all basically trying to say "games sux, ur channel now sux, bethesda le bad and elder scrolls is shit universe" For all i care hes not doing much besides trying to anger fans of the series and prove his 'superior' taste in media lol
I love that we are the same age and have the same TES timeline. Playing Oblivion first was one hell of a ride for 12 year old me. And 11 11 11 will forever be seared into my mind as the greatest day my 15 year old self ever experienced. Still playing everyday to this day. Edit: I also wish I could love ESO. Awesome lore and look, horrible gameplay experience.
I want another game that plays like Morrowind. It had all the best spells and weapons. I'm even down for failing to hit if your level is too low, but animate my failure. Don't show me that I hit then tell me I missed.
@@whitelasagna6786 for that I'd say you need to improve the AI and make movement speed based on level so that enemies can dodge your attacks. Just hopefully not like that teleportation thing skyrim does even when enemies can't see you.
I honestly think that the “multiverse” way that the Elder Scrolls ended up makes it the perfect franchise. You can tell literally ANY story you want. Have as many different endings as you want and you never have to tell a fan, “No, that’s not canon.”
Not to mention most Elder Scrolls fans are very kind to each other for the most part. Meanwhile a lot of Fallout fans will argue with each other about trivial shit for hours (this goes for a lot of other fictional universes as well). But I notice the fanbase is day and night with Elder Scrolls and Fallout, at least that’s my experience. How’ve you been this past year?
@@sleepshouter5017 Yeah, fallout is a rough community lore wise. Too many faction. You’ve got the isometric group, the new Vegas group, the Bethesda silent protagonist and voiced protagonist groups. They all hate each other lol. My year could’ve been worse actually. Got a raise out of the whole “labor shortage” thing. How bout you?
The story of you as a kid with Oblivion reminds me so much of my first time experiencing Skyrim. I can remember every detail of it just about. It blew my mind when I was a kid and it still does honestly.
Just wanted to say I love this video, and I like to come back to it from time to time to get my creative juices flowing, or just to feel nostalgia or nerd out about tes when I'm in the mood lol. This video is an incredible chronicle and discussion of the lore and is probably my favorite fudgemuppet video. Well done
OMFG what is this hour long TREAT?!?!?! Scott, dude, you’re too good to us lol ♥️♥️♥️ Edit post-watching: that was incredible. I learned plenty of new things about the Michael Kirkbride lore for example, but I also was able to consciously recognize certain reasons why exactly I do love the Elder Scrolls more than anything else in gaming, fiction, and (most actual “life” stuff, but don’t tell anyone lol), thanks to this video. I didn’t ever expect a video like this, but damn am I glad we got it. Thank you so much, Scott. Really. I can’t even tell you how much I appreciate you, and Michael and Drew as well. It’s been a hell of a time we’ve had together, growing up and going through life over all these years, while sharing and our growing our love for the Elder Scrolls together, alongside the single best community of *anything* that’s ever existed, and I believe that wholeheartedly. It doesn’t get more wholesome and passionate than this community. Here’s to another amazing decade, my friends 🔥😎🙌
Great job as always Scott, I actually got goosebumps when you started reading the back of the oblivion box. Reminded me of my first time leaving the sewer with no idea what to do. Somehow making it to Bruma where I found the only other person so far which was a guard who I somehow killed and took his armor and sword. Then when I entered Bruma I realized this was a bigger game than I thought. Age: 13
Hey look at least is not as problematic as when my dumbass 7th grade self attempted to make a white redguard! That racist as hell but really I just wanted the skill set of a redguard but look like a imperial since they were the focus race of oblivion like dunmer in morrowind. Since oblivion imperials have been my fave race in terms of lore
My journey with elder scrolls actually started with this channel. A few years ago, I saw skyrim was on sale on steam, and I looked it up on youtube to see what it's like. I stumbled upon the fudgemuppet character builds, and ended up watching a bunch of the lore videos that day. Of course, I did buy skyrim, and since then have played oblivion as well. I've loaded hundreds of hours into these games, they helped and still are helping me to get through the tougher times in life. I'm extremely grateful to have found the boys at fudgemuppet, as well as the ES universe.
My first ever character was in Morrowind. I was a dunmer, I don't remember the name. I do remember being a little drunk (my friend and I played Unreal Championship until he passed out) and confused about what to do, because I skipped a lot of text boxes lol. Anyway I got lost in the bitter coast, and eventually went to bed. When I woke up I couldn't remember the name of the game, and because it was one of about 50 different games installed on the hard drive of my friend's modded original Xbox.... Neither one of us wanted to sift through all of those titles. I didn't touch Elder Scrolls again until I was living with a different friend about a year or two later, and he came home from work with the newly released Skyrim. I'm germanic, and I immediately connected with all the references to Norse culture. The world reminded me of the pictures my favorite high school teacher took on his annual trips to Alaska (especially Falkreath hold). The similarities between Whiterun hold and Rohan also drew me in. I loved every minute of this game. When I was in college, I had to drop a class, because of a scheduling mistake, and I was sent a refund check in my mailbox at the dorm. I talked a friend into taking me to "The Game Room" which was a small game store I had seen in town... Turned out this store was run by an old highschool friend. He sold me one of his refurbished original Xbox 360, and I decided to buy Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind, since it was backwards compatible. This was my first time playing through all three games.
Oh my god. Scott, you've fixed my problem. I'm really struggling as a writer, in making my settings and lore take place in sequence throughout the story. Now, thanks to you, I've figured out why it seems so boring and strict! This whole time I have been planning every aspect of the story beforehand, when I really should have been just making shit up as I write and going with the flow. Thank you, truly!
I've really come to appreciate ESO by now. The base game is solid, although flawed lore-wise, but the DLCs are so good. They helped me like Argonians and Khajiit, not just on a visual/sympathy way, but rather based on their culture, religion and history.
@@joserijalkasyasyaf9723 what does that mean? MMO's can be RPGs and not all single player games are RPGs. Elder Scrolls VI will be an ActionRPG like Skyrim and Oblivion and not an MMORPG, if that answers your qeustion.
I feel like it's the massiavly developed theology of this game that separates it from every other title. I mean, we coud talk about just the concept of the daedric princes for hours without actually discussing anything cannon. I personally like developing theories about Lorkan and the reason for his creation by Sithis, and even made a DnD campaign about it. Great video
I know. My youngest, Sammi and I have an intertwined storyline between our two main characters where we will call each of and tell each other what our characters are doing now, and how the other character would act. Sammi's character is Kajeet(sp.?) Named Hope Ebonclaw. My character is an Imperial named Traviso De'Falcone. Sammi has been writing Fanfic for about 6 years now. Unfortunately, Sammi's kind of shy, and only displays her work with a few friends and family members. As an English major, I can say Sammi's writing is good.
@@majesticed9329 Thanks. I actually just got off the phone with Sammi. We were both playing Skyrim. I'm playing an Argonian rogue, Sammi is playing an Elven archer/mage. We found a quest that neither has completed yet, and played it out, using imagination. It was a blast. Now, we live over 100 miles away from each other, we did this over the phone. Another memory made.
@@curtisfranzen986 You're an amazing father and an absolute role model. I strive to have this relationship with my future children, as when I grew up my dad loved playing games with us as well, everything from animal crossing to left 4 dead and it made such an impact on me growing up.

Your videos are an absolute joy to listen to and watch while roaming Skyriim. Thank you. Know what you mean about the manuals. Although I now prefer games designed intuitively so I can discover by playing (hello Skyrim) I do miss the thrill of reading the well written, lore filled manual of a brand new game. My first PC game was the Hobbit. I’m fifty now. I got that when I was maybe 12 or 13 I think. And the road goes ever on.
I just wanna say To all at Fudgemuppet, your interpretations and your storytelling is some of the most enticing material I’ve ever heard. It’s truly great to hear you three explain this fantasy world with such descriptive...vigor. Very few TH-cam channels can captivate an audience for over 45 minutes, so cheers and kudos to the three of you!!! Looking forward to more content!
I was just talking to my gf about the franchise and games about this very topic. What makes the franchise unique and “on brand” is its lore. I don’t play ESO because it’s an MMO, I play it because it’s TES. My first game in the franchise was Skyrim, and I love it dearly, but I’m a fan of the whole world it introduced to me, and that is why I’ve been excited for TES6 for YEARS.
The myth makes reality part made me start crying, I wanted to create for so long but felt fantastical ideas were unwanted in this world. That quote you said has changed my mind. You really nerded out in this one, ya nerd.
I fell in love with TES with Morrowind. It's still my favorite game. And I got heavily involved with the modding community for TES IV: Oblivion. Ahhhhhh, happy days!
For me greatest fictional universe is Arda (Tolkien's works) but TES is probably a close second. Great to see more deep, personal videos. 👍 May God watch over your battles, friend! 💙
I remember my grandparents taking me to a game store, and I bought Oblivion, and in the car home, I read the manual imagining the character I would create.
You guys put a lot of effort into making very passionate, dedicated and thoughtful material. As a fan of Elder Scrolls, I sincerely, want to thank each of you for the fantastic, well thought out and well scripted videos you make about Elder Scrolls. Thank you again.
It makes my heart warm and fuzzy just realizing that other people share a similar experience and love for something I'm obsessed with, like elder scrolls. I watched practically the whole thing smiling like an idiot lol Love the channel! Honestly, it's the first thing I look too after a long day, just to see what's new on the channel. I've watched every video and can't say I that I didn't appreciate a single one. From going to a person that just loves a game, and loves learning about little details in the world....stopping to read every book, following different paths, and creating multiple characters....to having the world and lore opened up in ways I wouldn't imagined, all from TH-cam and people that appreciate the elder scrolls like I. Bethesda might've created the awesome world of the elder scrolls, but you guys with your videos really brings it to light, and the passion you have for it breathes life to it. Much ❤
I haven’t required any help in my thorough enjoyment of TES since my own introduction to the series in Oblivion, and yet the insights into this world and its lore discussed on this channel throw my nerd into overdrive. The perspectives they’ve meticulously pieced together are mind-boggling and make an already enormous world feel even bigger. Seriously. I now read *every* *damn* *book*. I gobble these videos up. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

Honestly for me, it has to be the music. That’s not me saying that the music is the best part of these games but just that as soon as you hear the songs and other tracks, you know what game you’re in. A chance meeting honestly makes me want to sit and absorb the moment when you enter a tavern. There’s just so much to love with TES and the music is definitely one of those reasons
Scott I applaud your passion in this, it is inspiring even to someone as familiar with the games as I you awaken fire in me that fuels conviction I had thought long lost in the franchise. keep up that flame until the elder scrolls six may come and ignite it once more 🔥❤️
The prism analogy definitely illustrates part of why I've become so engrossed in this world over the last decade. Ever since I was a kid, I've loved mythology and folklore. Going into adulthood, that love expanded into comparative mythology and comparative religion; how these stories and beliefs held so dear for so long evolved over time and distances, how they've remained the same, and what the similarities and differences say about their home cultures, as well as the overall 10,000 years of the human condition. The Elder Scrolls universe is like a comparative mythology sandbox. There, as in our world, I feel driven to learn as much as I can about the perspectives of Tamriel's various peoples, and then look at the overlaps and omissions to find my own truth. It brings me such a strange sense of joy.
When you where talking about trying to get the guard armor it reminded me of my first time playing skyrim. I found some thalmor on the road and tryed to fight them. They were tuff and killed me a few times. I took the shiny armor and thought i was a god. I then tryed to box a mammoth. Little did I know the armor didnt help but its nice to think back on.
I am a TTRPG designer and had I understood these points, I would have built VERY different games. I'm not upset about it! Excited, in fact! Love it so much. Thank you Scott, thank you FudgeMuppet!

Some say warcraft has more lore than TES. But if we consider the unknown lore, we get the biggest fictionnal universe : All of the lore on Tamriel is about 60 000 articles of lore (warcraft has about 100 000 in total) Multiply by 6 for the continents of nirn. 360 000 Multiply by 8 for the planets of Mundus. 2 880 000 Multiply by 3 for the dimensions of the Aurbis. 8 640 000 So it could have at least have 8 640 000 lore articles if we new all of the untold lore... Some references: lotr/the hobbit : 22 571 lore articles World of Warcraft : 106 202 lore articles Harry Potter / Fantastic Beasts : 7 513 lore articles Final fantasy : 11 652 lore articles Star Wars : 24 283 lore articles
I just wish we had more media of the elder scrolls. Novels, comics, more artwork. (and of course more good games unlike eso) This universe really deserves it
i love the way you capture that feeling of being a kid reading the box and manuel in a narritive. your story is relateable to me (for better or worse lol) you got my sub. your a great narrarot/ story teller.
It was 2006, middle of the summer. I tagged along with my brother and his friend while they raided on WoW. To shut me up, my brothers friend loaded up a save at the beginning of the arena quest line. Holy shit, I don't think I've ever experienced a game that made me feel that way. Walking into a giant arena being a Regular Joe fighting my way to the top was the coolest thing ever
ngl it’s. shame that the elder scrolls doesn’t get talked about enough when fantasy world building is mentioned. purely because it’s a video game and most people above a certain age would scoff at the idea that it’s a game and not a series of novels like a song of ice and fire or lord of the rings. but over time i’ve realised it’s just as extensive and fascinating. it has to be mentioned up there with the best of the best
Long story short, The Elder Scrolls is like a format for you to insert your own world into while simultaneously being able to share it with others. Elder Scrolls is like a gameboy adapter that lets us connect our own fantasy worlds together. It's like a puzzle which just gives you pieces but you can join them however you want.
Oblivion was also my first of the series. Like you, it will always be one of if not my most favorite games of all time. It is literally the only game I've ever gotten every achievements for. It was the game that made me fall in love with truly immersing myself in the lore and story of a universe.
As a lorebeard, I love the idea that C0DA and the open source lore concept has allowed so much discussion and investigation around deep pieces of the world. Let more people fill their heads with this dream! Lore for all, hail Herma-Mora!
People have asked me over the years why I'm so passionate about The Elder Scrolls, but I've never been able to explain that love in the way you've done in this video. Fantastic work Fudge

Someone in college gave me his old copy of Morrowind. He didn't care to play it. His loss.

Yo, I never had the Star Wars Battlefront 2 game manual. But I for sure read the thing
That part hit me in the childhood, i don’t even remember the last game I got that had a game manual
If they still had them I would be reading them while driving myself home.
I really love how TES world might seem like a general fantasy world on first sight, but it has a lot of interesting lore, which makes it stand out
lmao
TES feels real because the world building acknowledges an aspect of uncertainty in history that even we have in our history,
History is ultimately just stories being passed down through generations, as such they get changed becoming something different, and that's an aspect TES does right, it leaves a level of interpretation in history, as well as having so much lore and history in itself.
You know you love the Elder Scrolls when you play an Elder Scrolls game while listening to an Elder Scrolls expert talk about the Elder Scrolls.

KEEP THE GOOD WORK UP MY GUY!

Now I know to lore buffs that may seem incredibly stupid, but that's just what I like to believe.

this is my favorite video of yours and i’ve seen tons of them! i love love love the nostalgia trip you gave me. like thousands of others, i had a bunch of near-identical childhood experiences you explained. thank you for that!
Wishful thinking really.
this guy^^^^^^^ One Piece is expansive on another level.
Never thought I'd hear people casually mention one piece like that and give it credit. Niceeeeee
Well you can play most of Morrowind and ignore the lore, the game never tells you that you have to. Elder Scrolls is about playing how you want so a game forcing you to read a lore book that you are not interested on, is not really a good idea for a TES game.
Thank you

Great job as always Scott, I actually got goosebumps when you started reading the back of the oblivion box. Reminded me of my first time leaving the sewer with no idea what to do. Somehow making it to Bruma where I found the only other person so far which was a guard who I somehow killed and took his armor and sword. Then when I entered Bruma I realized this was a bigger game than I thought. Age: 13
update to this, I didn't watch anything past the box before the comment. Sounds like we had the same starting experience with the game.
3:14 - Talking about kid logic, my first character in Skyrim was a black Nord.
😂😂
@Jack Johnson Pure blood no, mixed race, yes.
I think this may be the channel’s best video. Thank you very much for the time and dedication!
I honestly love the elder scrolls so much. Always been my favorite
This 100%. And the way you can custemize the look of your house and character makes it one of the best TES games in my opinion.
Is Tes6 in form of a mmo or like Skyrim and Oblivion. An RPG type?
@@joserijalkasyasyaf9723 what does that mean? MMO's can be RPGs and not all single player games are RPGs. Elder Scrolls VI will be an ActionRPG like Skyrim and Oblivion and not an MMORPG, if that answers your qeustion.
@@bebo2629 thanks. I kinda confused in the game form but your definition is understandable.
It definitely is, TES is the best fictional universe ever created
tl;dw: Michael Kirkbride sure can write some damn good lore.
True but he obviously should not get all the credit.
Great video
The hours I’ve spent playing Skyrim vs. the hours I’ve spent thinking of Skyrim
@@curtisfranzen986 Cute
@@codeine69 Please tell my Ex that, she thinks I'm immature for using using a mutual interest to bridge both the distance and age gap between Sammi and I. Sammi is also big into Pokemon. Sammi plays in tournaments. She asked me what Pokemon she should play for me. I chose 2. I don't know there names, but one is the werewolf like one, the other looks like Anubis.
I really got into skyrim about 2 years ago and ever since then the elder scrolls series has been my favorite
The myth makes reality part made me start crying, I wanted to create for so long but felt fantastical ideas were unwanted in this world. That quote you said has changed my mind.
You really nerded out in this one, ya nerd.
I never got into the lore until I discovered your videos. I am officially a lore nerd now, thank you for the love
May God watch over your battles, friend! 💙
I remember my grandparents taking me to a game store, and I bought Oblivion, and in the car home, I read the manual imagining the character I would create.
That's a great memory
5:21 Love that you threw in some animation from AllinAll 👌
Amazing video, Scott. Thank you. TES is an incredible experience we all share, and that's a special thing.
The Elder Scrolls is most definitely my second favorite fictional world that's for sure, but my very favorite will always be Tolkien.
The progenitor of fantasy games and stories... Nice
I watched practically the whole thing smiling like an idiot lol
Love the channel!
Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Sometimes, i just wanna live in tamriel eh.
I would if cycles weren't anything to worry about, and if Nurn wasn't just a dream
@@marcusblackwell2372 I don't think cycles are anything to worry about, you'd most likely live and die very far from the beginning or end of the cycle
I dream of living in High Rock, either Daggerfall or Wayrest, nice places, has both magic and swords. My favourite place in ESO.
@@marcusblackwell2372 imagine entering nirn then figuring out chik then altering all of it then waking up the godhead killing everyone...hmm yeah somthing the lich would do..
I hope all the other members of Fudgemuppet do a personal vid like this! Much love xx
Scott I applaud your passion in this, it is inspiring even to someone as familiar with the games as I you awaken fire in me that fuels conviction I had thought long lost in the franchise. keep up that flame until the elder scrolls six may come and ignite it once more 🔥❤️
“They say that Ulfric stormcloak murdered the high king, shouted him apart”- any empire guard
Its nice to get the backstory to one of my favorite channels
Tolkien, Elder Scrolls, and Star Wars for me. Just fantastic universes.
I am a TTRPG designer and had I understood these points, I would have built VERY different games. I'm not upset about it! Excited, in fact! Love it so much. Thank you Scott, thank you FudgeMuppet!
Holy crap, this is the most nostalgic, amazing video I’ve ever watched, I’m tearing up right now writing this because of how relatable the start of the video felt, thanks fudgemuppet for another great video
i was 12 or 13 when i bought my first xbox 360 at gamestop. it was pre owned and it came with 6 games and 1 of them was skyrim and i remember i was so scared to play it because of the main menu music, idk why it discouraged me but it gave me so many mixed emotions when i heard it. it took me probably 2 days to get the courage to play it and wen i finally did it never left my disk tray.
ES 4 drew me in it way back when, however ES 5 let me live it. Such an enthralling world. I still never tire of it.
Some say warcraft has more lore than TES. But if we consider the unknown lore, we get the biggest fictionnal universe :
All of the lore on Tamriel is about 60 000 articles of lore (warcraft has about 100 000 in total)
Multiply by 6 for the continents of nirn. 360 000
Multiply by 8 for the planets of Mundus. 2 880 000
Multiply by 3 for the dimensions of the Aurbis. 8 640 000
So it could have at least have 8 640 000 lore articles if we new all of the untold lore...
Some references: lotr/the hobbit : 22 571 lore articles
World of Warcraft : 106 202 lore articles
Harry Potter / Fantastic Beasts : 7 513 lore articles
Final fantasy : 11 652 lore articles
Star Wars : 24 283 lore articles
I just wish we had more media of the elder scrolls. Novels, comics, more artwork. (and of course more good games unlike eso) This universe really deserves it
Considering we’re getting a Fallout show, we should get an Elder Scrolls show
"good games unlike ESO" so you mean bad games?
@@mudcrabmenace8534 It could be good as long as it is told by an unrealiable narrator or at least does not lifts the mysteries.
i love the way you capture that feeling of being a kid reading the box and manuel in a narritive. your story is relateable to me (for better or worse lol) you got my sub. your a great narrarot/ story teller.
By Ysmir! The last time I was this early, the empire was trying to conquer Akavir!
Man I remember those old beefy video game manuals and how they hooked you on the game before you even started.
I loved this dude, felt so personal and passion driven. Thank you for the great content over the years
Damn it! When that Skyrim intro starts. That games just so God damn good.
It was 2006, middle of the summer. I tagged along with my brother and his friend while they raided on WoW. To shut me up, my brothers friend loaded up a save at the beginning of the arena quest line.
Holy shit, I don't think I've ever experienced a game that made me feel that way. Walking into a giant arena being a Regular Joe fighting my way to the top was the coolest thing ever
nice of your brother's friend to give you a good starting point
Ah i see you started the elder scrolls with.. Arena ᴰᴬᴮˢ づ ͡ ͡° ͜ ʖ ͡ ͡°)づ
@@pisscvre69 amazing
You literally nailed my own experience of buying and playing Fallout: New Vegas in the intro.
ngl it’s. shame that the elder scrolls doesn’t get talked about enough when fantasy world building is mentioned. purely because it’s a video game and most people above a certain age would scoff at the idea that it’s a game and not a series of novels like a song of ice and fire or lord of the rings. but over time i’ve realised it’s just as extensive and fascinating. it has to be mentioned up there with the best of the best
FUCK MORA
People have asked me over the years why I'm so passionate about The Elder Scrolls, but I've never been able to explain that love in the way you've done in this video. Fantastic work Fudge
Why the Elder Scrolls is the GREATEST fictional universe... tooooo meeeeeeee *melancholic piano*
