There’s a strong possibility that the aggregate time for the research, scripting, reading, and editing for this video actually took longer than the entire winterhold questline took Bethesda to make
I just found this out. If you summon the Spectral Assassin aka Lucien Lachance and take him to the city of Winterhold he will say "Do you feel it? Magic. Deep and ancient. It resonates from the College, like the beating of a heart." Furthering the Dark Heart theory.
watching this video today for the second time, didn't think there could've been more info. How silly of me, i should've know. It's Camel we're talking about. Also, i can't take this video as nothing other than facts. It's not just theory, it all makes perfect sense. We should've had a developer analysing this and giving you sir, some kind of award. You mastered this analysis in the most perfect way.
Maybe the auger was stuck at the college and after having the eye opened he went in and had the db close it then the psijic order came thru picked him up and left.
“Have you heard the story of the Augur of Dunlain? It’s not a tale the Archmage would tell you. He was so powerful in the ways of restoration magic he could even save the ones he loved, from death.”
The bigger mystery is Colette talking like the augur is just a myth, when you reach level 90 in restoration she talks about him like she’s known him forever
wel the auger is not a beeing you just talk about with everyone, maybe ones she is familiar with you or you are experienced enuf she feels like she can talk about him
She still doesn’t sell you the master level spell she’s supposed to though. It’s never available in her inventory for sale whenever I’ve played through that quest. Even when all the other masters have reset & have copies of master level spells available again, she never does
@@TH-camcanfuckagoat cause she is not a master level trainer. she is only expert level. danica purespring in the whiterun tempel is the master trainer. there aren't really more than 1 master per skill in skyrim. some have 2 or even 3 but only added with a dlc. the basegame had 1 master per skill.
Okay, I think the Augur was trying to invoke a powerful spell to grow hair out on his head, BUT the powers for such a spell were too great and it overwhelmed him causing the Great Collapse! o_o Thus the spell only worked half-way, sure he was no longer bald (cause his physical form was annulled) but he didn't get the hair he wanted to neither. Mystery - SOLVED! :D You're welcome. You're research about his origin as a son of a Hagraven was pretty cool too though! :)

Severely underrated. It's actually depressing given how on point this likely is The modern ES lore seems either non-existant or slapped together based on a series of coincidental events that could exolain the various phenomena Ibusually find very little thought goes into the lore behind events or even preserving canon
I actually think some (if not most) of this more was actually genuinely considered to be implemented into the game and whatnot. Especially with the whole hagraven-like character design thing. Whether because of time constraints, negative response in playtesting, because of the opinions of some boss at Bethesda, or for whatever reason, it was cut. At least some of it was still left in the game. This is interesting lore, and some of it it seems very plausibly true, at least to me.
After having replayed through as a wizard just recently, I have to say it’s entirely possible that rather then wanting the Augur to have access to anything, I felt it was more something like “Ancano is dangerous, he needs to die, the Dragon Priest in Labyrinthian will break out soon, need to deal with that, Savos Aren is unworthy as an Archmage for the coming age. The College of Winterhold, the only remaining beacon for proper magical education for the next generation, needs a more capable hand at the wheel.” They waited and provided just enough guidance for you solve everything, forcing you to grow in the face of that adversity and become worthy of the role, then for the man in your way of a promotion to die, and more particularly the man who would be more suited to taking the role by seniority to witness you save the world first hand, and crush a Wizard who he couldn’t even touch, securing his recommendation you take the job. I found it VERY interesting when, at the end, they make a point of addressing you as Archmage, despite knowing very well you haven’t been given the position yet. They’re forcing the issue in a way. In a sense, everything turned out perfectly for them.
This is an interesting theory. I'm not entirely sure I believe it, but you might be onto something here. Plus, adding to this, it's entirely possible for you to be both the Archmage of the college, as well as Thane of Winterhold, which would do wonders to start softening the local's opinions on magic, further helping to secure a future for the college.
I... find that interesting. I just don't buy it. I mean in a meta sense you're becoming the Archmage because Morrowind did it, then Oblivion did it. But there is a slight difference between how it's done in Morrowind and how it's done in Oblivion and Skyrim. In Morrowind you have to be.. at least mildly politically savvy to get the Archmage to step down, showing you might have some sense of how to deal with people. You also needed the stats that said you actually were good at magic in general. In at least a few fields. Having a strong grasp of magical theory, the skills and dangers involved, and the responsible uses of (theoretically). In Oblivion and Skyrim however? Well... you don't need that magical expertise at all really. You don't need a deeper understanding of magic. In fact in Oblivion you actively are rejecting understanding magic in Necromancy because Traven is basically a radical lunatic on crusade. You were picked just because you were his tool for that Crusade and survived it. Really you should have been a Knight of the Lamp instead of the Archmage. Similarly the College of Winterhold has a lot of things that needs particular skills and expertise. On the dangers of magic. Politics and how to diplomatically work with the Nords of Skyrim who are innately distrustful to Magic for the most part. You see a lot of dangers of inept use of magic, from you uncovering the Eye of Magnus to the Augur of Dunlain and our good friend there Arniel Ghosting himself, or how magic has made some members of the college a bit unstable (like Collette and the Illusion master). Just at the end of the College of Winterhold? I don't feel like the Dragonborn really attained any level of mastery to really handle the job of "Archmage". They did, like Oblivion, achieve a status fitting of something like "Grand Protector of the College" perhaps. A blunt stick to enforce rules which is basically what you get with the Aftershock radiant quests and Tolfdir seemingly taking charge of the day to day stuff as the actual Archmage. That your title is basically an empty figurehead that doesn't even get used as a showpiece (Hell the NPC barks never even seem to realize you're the Archmage, thinking you're just a member still which supports it for me), that he gives you a fancy title and then just sends you out to kill things causing damage while he actually conducts the College's administration. Though I honestly think Mirabelle would have been better. She was level headed. She was skilled. She seemed to have no problems handling people and getting respect out of them as pretty much no one has anything bad to say about her (Unlike Tolfdir). But well.. the games seem ill disposed to admitting the player might have limits and might not be the greatest thing ever. Heck I was mildly surprised that after the Civil War they didn't go "... you know what, forget Elisef, the Dragonborn is now High King of Skyrim!". I mean not ENTIRELY surprised. But there was definitely a part of me that figured there was like 25% odds on them doing it... Even though the Dragonborn similarly shows little signs of understanding the Nord culture, Skyrim's government, and so forth (he has to ask what Thanes and Jarls and Housecarls are after all). So always kind of sad for me that Mirabelle was just killed with zero fanfare. Even though she was holding her own in a struggle against a mer with the power of the Eye of Magnus, dying a hero's death. They kind of treat it like "Oh and Rosenkrantz and Gilderstern are also dead".
@@hitomisalazar4073 You’re mastery of those things is assumed, of course. Some of the weight is on you as a role player to build yourself in such a way that you are, in fact, worthy of said position. If you’re going by Lore, you are a nexus point of the God Head’s dream, a “Prisoner” the avatar of a Dreamer outside the God Head, in addition to being “The Last Dragon Born”. You are effectively a God, to the point where Hermeaus Mora, who can speak and unmake every other god in existence, puts on a production to entertain you. To appease you. Mastering magic to you is literal child’s play. You can max all fields of it within days in game. Effortlessly. You can interpret yourself as a “Blunt Stick” because you don’t try to fill in the role in a more role play styled way, and instead are just taking the game mechanics at face value. And political savvy in Morrowind…? I recall you certainly COULD yes, but you likewise could just challenge him to a duel and murder him in the arena.
@@Neuviletteiudexofmemes Well here's what I mean about worthy of the position. As a roleplayer, as I do try to roleplay these games. I see the role of Archmage not just "I have hit 100 in several schools of magic". That makes you that blunt stick I pointed out. You're power, but not Wisdom necessarily. The role of Archmage (should at least) be something other than just a measurement of who has the most power. And there's touches I liked out of other mages guilds I missed (or wish went longer). Like the start of the Skyrim's Mage's guild I think is the best in the series, right until you get trapped in Saarthal. I like that when you get to Winterhold you'll find out about the tensions. You'll have someone halt you mentioning rowdy Nords looking for fights. You have to prove you are invested into being a mage to get past (I usually get tasked to summon a Flame Atronach, impossible unless you either put points into Magicka growth, were an Altmer by default, or put effort into Conjuration due to its over 100 point casting cost). You get a nice little lecture, a tour, a class on a new type of magic to the series (I just wish Wards actually were GOOD for anything really, they drain magicka way too fast to be useful without exploits). And the idea of going to Saarthal, to see how Ancient Nords lived and utilized magic is a fascinating idea. I want to know more. Like a more in depth version of the Lectures at the Arcane University in Oblivion where you could hear lessons on what the Doomstones are. Actual academics and understanding. Increasing wisdom, even if the Oblivion mage's guild didn't require any magical talent to speak of. It's not something I have to make up out of, well really nothing because the story line doesn't give you that. I can always BS a reason. But considering the Dragonborn then almost assuredly faffs off to who knows where before Hermaus Mora consumes him and traps him in Apocrypha (I would be VERY surprised if that wasn't the canonical story come Elder Scrolls 6, if they mention anything, due to the general fear Bethesda has of establishing things about former main characters)... are you really worthy? You beat a threat. But what did you really do to prove yourself a leader? You saw Savros Aren's complete ineptitude in the Ghosts of the Labyrinthian Dungeon, so examples of what not to do I suppose. I don't think the Psijiic Order was really grooming you for anything in terms of Leadership. I think they just saw it as a chance to claim the Eye of Magnus. Which did end up well for them. Like I can respect the theory (probably a lot more satisfying than being a figurehead while Tolfdir actually runs everything for most people), don't get me wrong. It's not a personal thing. It's me pondering and thinking structure and just how I was feeling about things. Though part of my general dislike of the Morrowind started trend of "We MUST make you a leader of all of Tamriel's X" is that... well they usually don't do a good job of framing it up for me, and they don't actually let you have that role regardless. I think the Thieves' Guild in Skyrim is the best I ever felt about that style. Because instead of just getting to the end of the story line, you have to prove you're the best thief around. You have to work your butt off to make the Guild a presence across Skyrim again, making powerful contacts and friends that the guild can lean on. By the end of it? I feel like it was well deserved. And I feel like the greatest thief in the province. I even get a little tribute for my trouble showing that my title isn't just an empty platitude. Not asking for much, I can work with what's provided. But those little touches. Makes the difference for me. Touches I felt lacking from the Mage's Guild where I do technically have to use magic (Making it better than Oblivion's in that regard). But... I don't feel like the wisest academic by the end of it. And considering my only reward is a bedroom in a place that already had a bedroom, access to crafting tables in a place that already had crafting tables, a title that does nothing, and Tolfdir running everything anyway while I'm gone? I dunno. Just something missing. As cliche as it is to say, I do think "Mods fix this" is one solution. As I recall one where they bootlegged in a Spellmaker, after you completed the questline. And the idea that somehow in all those events you gained the wisdom and insight to create new spells was something to fit that. And it was fun running around with things like a Cloak of Fear and Frost spell on hand or a Sticky Flamethrower (like the Wall of X destruction spells) of Paralysis spell. Other solution was if there was some extra quest line/stage after that involving the city of Winterhold itself. Maybe having the college help rebuild it, or depose Korir out of fear of him storming the place eventually, or something that could have made it feel a bit more satisfying and solve a lingering tension that otherwise goes unaddressed.
@@hitomisalazar4073 My point though is that, that 100 in a magic should mean more then “my spells go vroooom”. It’s up to us to make mean something. If you’re point was that the College drops you too fast into the chosen one stuff, I agree, which is why I always use mods to stall the quests between reporting to Savos about the eye, and when it appears in the college and Psyjics visit. So I can live a life in the college, “research” the cool modded spells in things like Midas (which need rare ingredients across Skyrim to secure) do the various other mage related mods installed bit by bit. Set off on other ruin delves to modded in dungeons (which I’ve modded to have better rewards and spells in to offset their massive size and scope). Bit by bit, become someone worthy of being Archmage, in your play-through, then trigger the Eye “finally being excavated and placed in the college”. But you said something else interesting to me. Hermeaus trapping the last Dragonborn in Apocrypha…? Now why would he do that~? He already got what he wanted. We, the audience, were entertained by a huge storyline in which he got to be our ally. On our side. People are invested in him, now, he’s a fan favorite God. And what happened as a result of that? It was retroactively established that he’s the most powerful god in the verse, and stands unopposed in his quest to obtain all knowledge. That portal he makes for us is canon, and it’s OBVIOUSLY canon. Because his motive, from the start, WAS you. He could have killed Miraak at any moment. On a whim. Why let his plan go so far? Because ol Herma Mora is a trickster first and foremost, and with his sight of the tides of fate always did he know how this would play out. He didn’t just want a Dragon Born as a Trophy. He wanted the hearts and minds of those beyond the Godhead on his side. And sure enough it handed him the world. Remember that he may put on a good act, but Herma Mora is Meta as all hell. He’s very much aware of the worlds nature, that we could turn him off at any given moment, and that his world will end truly and utterly, with no Kalpa recycle, the moment we lose interest in it. So as the master of fate ( and the puppet master who controls all other gods if he needs to we now realize from Onlines new expansion) why wouldn’t he manipulate things to keep them entertaining? Why wouldn’t he set the world up for Elder Scrolls 6, 10, 20 Etc. Hermeaus will probably always avoid directly becoming the players enemy, because why wouldn’t he? He knows he’d have to lose.

The college isnt that disappointing. Most people just watch youtube videos to tell them how to feel about things instead of thinking for themselves. The only thing about the college that's disappointing is that it's too short. Which happens when you have a game that's as big as skyrim.
Some of this was probably part of the original plan, but a lot of things in the final game were cut short or left out. The bards college has files that allow you to play instruments, but instead, all we get in the actual game is the ability to recover a poem and attend a festival.

Bethesda has included that kinda thing before and I was extremely disappointed to not have it as an option. With all the obscure hidden dialogue in game it’s almost surprising how this small thing was overlooked. And then I remember how the entire College quest line seemed overlooked
When I first played the college's quest line, I audibly said "Wait, that's it?" I had completed the Companion's and thieves guild, so I was incredibly underwhelmed by the College
Thank you my good man, you just answered lots of questions which were fudging many of the players' minds for nearly a decade. The itching of my soul has now ended, my sincerest thanks ^_^
I think it's important to remember that the Augur of Dunlain's dialogue can't be skipped, similar to Daedric Prince's and if you exit conversation with him, you're forced to restart. So perhaps he's on a similar level to them. Or, perhaps, the very same storm that destroyed winterhold managed to destroy the wards as well. Perhaps, there were indeed strong wards around the college but the storm was managing to destroy them, so the augur of dunlain tried to do an experimental spell to strengthen the wards by connecting himself to them and using one of his unique spells to try to keep the college safe(and in the process try to take a large amount of the magic into himself) . Unfortunately, all he managed to do is extend the wards until just before the storm ended, losing his body in the process, with his soul still being connected to the college's Magicks, which would explain the damage the college still has as well. And if those wards were placed long ago, perhaps the mages at the time didn't know how to replace them. One problem I have with your theory is that, as far as I can tell, the Augur is bound to the magic flowing through the college, and the only way for him to leave would be by taking all the magic with him since it is him, yet the magic still remains after the whole college questline is complete. Never mind. You addressed it
Recently did all Daedric quests, I remember being able to skip only the dialogue of those who have a body like Sanguine and Sheogorath. There's also Meridia, that has default body movement but with a spark of light texture.
mages at the college of winterhold: what kind of magic is this? how am i to study this spell if i do not know what kind of magic i am doing?? the reachmen: MAGIC IS MAGIC
I always assumed that this was the ultimate spell in restoration. It’s literally the opposite of death so I figure this was lichdom minus the whole living corpse thing. This is the equal of a Jedi force ghost. The dark side makes u a lich inhabiting a body that can be dead while the light side makes you a force ghost.
That excerpt from Shalidor’s Insights really looks like a note/memo from a writer or quest designer to an artist or level designer, describing what the cell needed to look like for Septimus’ quest to take place there. The same artist or another in the same department probably needed some mysterious looking text to put into Shalidor’s Insights, and they had that note lying around, so they used it, probably with the expectation that nobody would bother trying to translate it.
I think you’re 100% correct It’s definitely a Description intended for a designer likely a texture artist to get A rough idea of what is needed it’s just filler text that they had laying around But It gives us a little insight into the process of the making of the game
Interesting and very agreeable, still very strange about hermaus Moras book having the colleges design in the book. Mabye shalidor did know things he shouldn’t have
Agreed completely. While I love many of Camel's theories, I hate to say that I just don't think Bethesda thought this deep. While I lowkey accept this as my headcanon, I think its more likely many that Bethesda knows as much about the Augur of Dunlain as we do. Which is almost nothing. And IF this was Bethesda's plan all along, they need to be working for the CIA or something, not a game studio XD The Internet can figure out almost any mystery and its truth in about a year or 2.
The Augur neither lives nor dies - in a sense he flees the collapse into magic. He remains in a liminal state. A bit like Magnus. Magnus did not refuse to participate in creation like a Daedra but he didn't stay to lose his power like an Aedra, he fled back to Aetherius before convention becoming a Magne Ge and tearing the hole of the sun. Ever the liminal state. The Augur might have been trying to mantle Magnus? Ie Like Tiber Septim mantles Lorkhan. And what more could there be in the acquisition of magic power than to mantle the god of magic?
This has got to be one of the greatest lore/theory videos of all time. It really goes places you wouldn't expect, and highlights a compelling history of the region this game takes place in.
all you would need to do is take all of shrek's voice lines throughout all of the movies and cut them up to form all the lines that Augur says or hire brock baker to do the lines
THIS folks, this is what keeps me from quitting skyrim after 7 years of playing, camel, fudgemuppet and zaric are the best thing that has ever happened to this loveable community
Just watched the whole video in a single sitting and didn't feel bored or burned out by it at all. Only the highest craftsmanship can achieve such a feat. Brilliant job Camel!
I just recently discovered this channel because I fell asleep on a FudgeMuppet video and woke up to the CCC series. Am I glad about that! Camel, you are amazing! I’ve never watched a video for three hours straight. Seriously, props to you for such dedication to the theories you and the community come up with. I’ve just joined the Discord and I’m so excited to be part of such a cool and curious;) community. Thanks, Camel!
I think this may be one of my favourite videos that not just you as a creator has produced, but on TH-cam as a whole. I watched the entire thing snuggled up on my sofa with my dog and it's the happiest I've been for months. It's also helped me sleep, I play this in the background and it's helping me deal with my inability to sleep due to mental issues. Thank you so much for this video man
*Sees new video* "Oh sweet, Camel has uploaded; Augur of Dunlain Mystery Exposed? Sweet, I always wanted to know who he wa-" *3:02:29 * "Mother of God."
Maybe the Auger of Dunlain wanted to merge with the Eye of Magnus, explaining him leaving after these events. Perhaps the Eye is also tied to the availability of magic on Tamriel, as well, and the Order wanted him to merge with it to make magic all the more powerful.
Ahh, the event with the Strom that swallowed the city was not enough, but he knew that the eye of Magnus would come along later, giving him the final push to ascend to godhood.
First Collete talks about him like she hardly believes in a spooky story told to her in freshman year and then she talks about him like grandma remembering her first spring fling.
I don't know if you realized this but in the video about Reyda, you bring up how the court wizard of Riften writes a letter to the college asking about a "cloud emulsifier" and that they don't know any such device or any magic used to control storms, which being so common on Nirn is odd but makes perfect sense if they were trying to hide their role in the storms
Augr is also eerily similiar to the icelandic word "auga" which means eye. Skyrim takes alot of inspiration from nordic languages like for example draugr - icelandic: draugur which means ghost so this could maybe be connected
Only Camel could keep me interested in an entire 3 hour spoken essay on an obscure, one of the MOST obscure, fictional character in a video game. Well done Camelboi!
I don't think there's much to the Ebony Warrior beyond in-universe being an aspect of Ebonarm and, in a meta sense, being a parallel to the player. A cool character, but perhaps not worthy of an Elder Scrolls Detective investigation.
He is the classic "one punch man" story I don't know the exact lore but through his words and the words of npcs such as guards the conclusion is that he has extreme wanderlust, he wanted to do everything when he meets the Dragonborn perhaps he seeks a challenge or just someone who can finally defeat him
I forget who but Ive seen a skyrim youtube video about him before, his npc is a red guard and the line of dialogue he says is something about going to sovngarde. his body is also 30% larger than most npcs. I think their theory was he was a spectre of a certain war god or something. Im sure someone else in the comments will know much better than me, thats just what I remember from the video. (possibly in one of epicnate's videos but very unsure)
This makes me feel like my position as Arch Mage is just being a puppet to the Augur and the Psijic. I guess it's in their interest to have a gullible tool like me in that position.
Well jokes on them, my the moment my character catches the wind of her being manipulated heads will start rolling and boy oh boy do I like to see them try fighting Alteration/Restoration/Conjuration Dragonborn master armed with The Stuff of Magnus and plethora of daedric artifacts What I meaning is that trying to control Dragonborn who might very well be canonically the most powerful mortal that currently walks on Tamriel very, veeeeery bad idea. Then again, Elder Scrolls lore full of people looking at VERY BAD NO GOOD DON DO IT idea and go like "I am a genius, what could go wrong?"
@@exploertm8738 it is implied on several occassions (like when asking Neloth to teach you enchanting) that the skill level 100 cap isn't the maximum that can be reached, but simply is for you as the player - Neloth implies that he is skilled beyond the 100 level cap. It makes sense, given how in Morrowind you could go above 100. So... don't assume just because all of your skills are at 100 that you are indestructible and superior to everyone. There are skills which are obviously there in the lore that are inaccessible in the games themselves.
Ye it sounds like they just found some random dev notes and thought they looked cool in the book. The way its described sounds like its from the perspective of developers and not someone perceiving the future.
@@dard1515 but in a way it’s also really cool because it’s like shalidor has tapped into the way the world around him is designed by some exterior force
The elder scrolls exist because of Todd Howard, who exists because of the elder scrolls. But deep down he's actually Nazeem and the lucid modder guides the dream
I was surprised that you never mentioned the fact that the College of Winterhold insignia, which is supposed to be the eye of magnus, looks eerily similar to Hermaeus Mora.
Yeah well,... because that would be touching on the unholy source of not only magick itself but also - and much more! - on the source of the school of Winterhold. Immortality, becoming a god or god-like and power through (forbidden) knowledge: haven't we all heard about this before?! Magick, its providers and users are what causes ALL the devastation in this fantasy world. And that fact is rather uncomfortable for most fans of the franchise. I guess that's why the matter of the human sacrifice and the destruction of a city is little more than a side note in this video.
This video is a masterpiece deserving of an award. Of all the factions in Skyrim, I like the College of Winterhold most, though I'm likely in the minority. Having only played Skyrim for 2 years, I was ignorant of the prior games. What little I did learn helped shape the backstory of one character I created and it also lead me to the belief that souls were needed to ascend in power. I believe Tolfdir knew the Augur because I consider Colette, who is younger, more honest. It's also interesting how she speaks of the Augur when you do the Restoration Ritual. Fabulous work. I look forward to seeing other videos on this channel even if I'm years behind everyone else. Side note: You can partially skip the dialog of Meridia and Sheogorath.
The “Murder” in “a murder of crows” is a collective noun, not the plural of crow. The plural of “crow” is “crows”. Other examples of “collective nouns” are: A “pod” of whales, A “parliament” of owls, A “batch” of cake, A “gang” of thieves, A “flight” of butterflies, A “disguising” of tailors, And so on and so forth.
Two points: 1: The wards could simply protect the structure itself, not its occupants. Wards might get in the way of experiments if they block magical energies from being accessed or sent out. 2: When the Augur speaks of "your" college, it may just be that he's talking about the who make up the college rather than the structure itself. He has at best a tenuous connection to the people currently at the college.
I'd really like to point out the AUGUR says "You are not the first to visit me, but you MAY be the last." How can someone with such powerful foresight be unsure about an outcome like this?
Something to mention about unskippable dialogue. It only applies to voice lines that have voice effects put on them, which _most_ daedra have. Similarly, the Augur has a voice effect, and cannot be skipped. There is one Daedra for instance that doesn't talk with a voice effect and can be skipped, though I forget who it is. It seems less developer intended and more engine limitation.
This was absolutely fascinating! You connected so many dots I never knew existed! But it makes sense and fits the facts. It's just delightful. I do hope we get more on why the Augur of Dunlain, working with the Psyjic Order, plotted to absorb SOME of the power from the Eye of Magnus. It does suggest that the order couldn't do it themselves, but asks why they would allow another to do so? Do they hold some sway over the Augur? Do their interests align? Just really exciting to theorize!
This is the Elder Scrolls equivalent of a dnd player telling the DM their idea of what’s happening in the story and the DM scratching out his original notes and saying “yep that’s exactly what it is”
Damn man, if I would like this a hundred times, I would. Sort of related, I wish there was a mod that would augment the way your character looks based on particular skill progression, whether slowly or all at once at 100.
@@_downyblue i think mxr reviewed it in a Recent video, I think the Mod itself is called visible progression or muscle growth on Nexus idk, good Luck Finding it
Noooo. You can't use tolfdir voice as a evidence of him hiding something considering all of these lines are shot at different times, And that he was an actual old man. Not to mention he was sick for many years. So during that recording session he may have not been feel exactly chipper. Fun fact Tolfdir was played by George Coe. The same man who voiced Woodhouse in the series "Archer". May he rest in peace.
I wouldn't say ALL. Some of it is likely intentional BUT I do consider this more of an exception given the evidence Kinda say we may never really know, because it could just be good acting
Holy crap I didn't realize Tolfdir was Woodhouse. Now I'm never going to unhear it. Rest in piece George Coe. "Shall I get the aquarium gravel, sir dragonborn?"
@@The214thRabidFangirl I didn't, lol. My game bugged out last time and she didn't attack me, so I farmed some hagraven feathers/claws from her house, give her a big ole kiss and went to torture some nearby vampires.
The Glenmoril Witches (hagravens) are explicitly stated to serve Hircine during the Companions quest line in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This particular coven of hagravens was responsible for the lycanthropy curse placed upon the Companions some hundreds of years prior to the events of Skyrim.
I love this video not just the fact that it took a lot of time to piece together and create, but that you took your time to stamp out the time and chapters in your comment. Good job and I hope you will continue to make these astounding videos. Good day to you, my friend 😊✌️

The College of Winterhold, the only remaining beacon for proper magical education for the next generation, needs a more capable hand at the wheel.”
They waited and provided just enough guidance for you solve everything, forcing you to grow in the face of that adversity and become worthy of the role, then for the man in your way of a promotion to die, and more particularly the man who would be more suited to taking the role by seniority to witness you save the world first hand, and crush a Wizard who he couldn’t even touch, securing his recommendation you take the job.
@@Neuviletteiudexofmemes
Well here's what I mean about worthy of the position.
Imagine the Bethesda developer like O_O “we were just trying to be mysterious”

The college isnt that disappointing. Most people just watch youtube videos to tell them how to feel about things instead of thinking for themselves.
The only thing about the college that's disappointing is that it's too short. Which happens when you have a game that's as big as skyrim.
Some of this was probably part of the original plan, but a lot of things in the final game were cut short or left out. The bards college has files that allow you to play instruments, but instead, all we get in the actual game is the ability to recover a poem and attend a festival.

Fr man I watched the whole 3 hours and I didn’t get bored for a single minute
I just recently discovered this channel because I fell asleep on a FudgeMuppet video and woke up to the CCC series. Am I glad about that! Camel, you are amazing! I’ve never watched a video for three hours straight. Seriously, props to you for such dedication to the theories you and the community come up with. I’ve just joined the Discord and I’m so excited to be part of such a cool and curious;) community. Thanks, Camel!
How Curious
I think this may be one of my favourite videos that not just you as a creator has produced, but on TH-cam as a whole. I watched the entire thing snuggled up on my sofa with my dog and it's the happiest I've been for months. It's also helped me sleep, I play this in the background and it's helping me deal with my inability to sleep due to mental issues.
Thank you so much for this video man
Same here buddy.... 👍
"Ghartok", "Chim" and "Altadoon" are also names of a few actual Elder Scrolls, you encounter them in ESO in Cyrodiil.
They are words in Ehlnofex, this just translates to elder scroll of royalty, of right hand (weapon hand), and of a weapon.

"Mother of God."
This was my reaction.
If my hairline looked like that I'd wanna ascend too.
I feel like this is severely underrated
@@RandomPerson-or7di I know this masterpiece comment should be pinned. 🙌
First Collete talks about him like she hardly believes in a spooky story told to her in freshman year and then she talks about him like grandma remembering her first spring fling.

I have no idea what age colette is supposed to be
"Just like a good Friday night, we're going deep."
Okay, okay, *_CHILL._*
The amount of little one liners he drops throughout the video is hilarious.
"Pspsps J'zargo c'mere"

An ES Detective that’s longer than a CCC video? Alright, let’s go.
Me after watching for an hour: well that's it, he's a hagraven's son what else is there to say? *checks to see the video length again*
Same lol i was oh shit i still got like 2 hours
Augr is also eerily similiar to the icelandic word "auga" which means eye. Skyrim takes alot of inspiration from nordic languages like for example draugr - icelandic: draugur which means ghost so this could maybe be connected

Only Camel could keep me interested in an entire 3 hour spoken essay on an obscure, one of the MOST obscure, fictional character in a video game. Well done Camelboi!
Just like a daedra, he speaks VERY slowly and his dialogue cannot be skipped (atleast in oldrim)
fun fact: this video is longer than the time it takes to be promoted to Arch Mage in game
Id be curios to see an Elder Scrolls Detective video on the Ebony Warrior.
I don't think there's much to the Ebony Warrior beyond in-universe being an aspect of Ebonarm and, in a meta sense, being a parallel to the player. A cool character, but perhaps not worthy of an Elder Scrolls Detective investigation.
He is the classic "one punch man" story
I don't know the exact lore but through his words and the words of npcs such as guards the conclusion is that he has extreme wanderlust, he wanted to do everything when he meets the Dragonborn perhaps he seeks a challenge or just someone who can finally defeat him
Watch MrRhexxs video on him, explores the ebonarm theory
Probably Nazeem's hidden second life
I forget who but Ive seen a skyrim youtube video about him before, his npc is a red guard and the line of dialogue he says is something about going to sovngarde. his body is also 30% larger than most npcs.
It actually makes sense that we would be the arch mage with this rather than one of the elder mages, it's a conspiracy for others to get to their ends
gullable fool? speak for youreself!
Same goes for the imperial legion, the stormcloaks and the blades
Well jokes on them, my the moment my character catches the wind of her being manipulated heads will start rolling and boy oh boy do I like to see them try fighting Alteration/Restoration/Conjuration Dragonborn master armed with The Stuff of Magnus and plethora of daedric artifacts
What I meaning is that trying to control Dragonborn who might very well be canonically the most powerful mortal that currently walks on Tamriel very, veeeeery bad idea.
There are skills which are obviously there in the lore that are inaccessible in the games themselves.
the translated writing inside Shalidor’s insights sounds like a developers description of how the outpost should look
Ye it sounds like they just found some random dev notes and thought they looked cool in the book. The way its described sounds like its from the perspective of developers and not someone perceiving the future.
@@ekaylor4104 With the notes being canon, it could be viewed as Shalidor writing this part of the song that Magnus laid out.
@@dard1515 but in a way it’s also really cool because it’s like shalidor has tapped into the way the world around him is designed by some exterior force

Perhaps the second half...

Not to mention, Gopher's latest Skyrim video. : P
I was surprised that you never mentioned the fact that the College of Winterhold insignia, which is supposed to be the eye of magnus, looks eerily similar to Hermaeus Mora.
If They hadn’t simplified the pantheon I’d say they’re paying tribute to herma mora but hey
@@saymyname2417 you chose the Warrior Stone, didn't you?
@@heresthadude1080 - I did indeed!
@@saymyname2417 =Laughs in Lichdom=

Other examples of “collective nouns” are:
A “pod” of whales,
A “parliament” of owls,
A “batch” of cake,
A “gang” of thieves,
A “flight” of butterflies,
A “disguising” of tailors,
And so on and so forth.

Don't forget 'a pandemonium of parrots'
A "business" of ferrets is my favorite.
A 'wank' of grammar Nazis.
Holy shit well done man. I can't imagine the effort and skill needed to put together a video this long.
Two points:
1: The wards could simply protect the structure itself, not its occupants.
Perhaps something like in Dune, where there are certain people they cannot see the true future of, or under certain circumstances.
may could also mean can btw
the future is mutable.
I dunno. I always took it as ' You are not the first to seek my knowledge/secrets, but you may be the first to obtain them.'

Me:Tentacle Daddy.
"there's mister Talking Plant again" my girlfriend only calls it that
My thought was "he who talks too slowly"
I call him Herma-Mora like the Skald do.
Two: Uncle Sheo and Sanguine both talk normally.

Damn man, if I would like this a hundred times, I would. Sort of related, I wish there was a mod that would augment the way your character looks based on particular skill progression, whether slowly or all at once at 100.

Agreed, if anything communicative comes through in the intonation or inflection of these games' voice acting, it is unintentional.

Not that we needed to be told. The Glenmoril Witches were in the Bloodmoon expansion to Morrowind too... and that was all about Hircine.
