    Why do the Thalmor think the Altmer are the greatest?
    Because they have High Elf esteem.

    Every aspect of the ultimatum and the White Gold Concordat was designed for the future. The treaty was specifically designed to weaken the empire for an eventual future conquest.

      Yup that’s true.
      Ceding of Hammerfell would provide a staging area for the invasion.
      Disbanding the Blades rids the empire of her elite warriors.
      Banning of Talos worship was a twofer, on the one hand you separate the people from the principles of the founder they are less likely to support the nation in the second war. A brilliant strategy. On the other, they knew that Skyrim would fracture as that was the center of Talos worship. They then orchestrated the Stormcloak rebellion. This would cut down the Nords’ numbers and prevent them fighting for the Empire. Also, the economic recovery in Skyrim would take decades, making for an easy invasion, even with the Dragonborn aiding the victorious side.

      @Char Aznable I have one question
      Is there any sort of indication that the provinces of Valenwood and Elyswer have active resistance against the dominion?
      That part about elven superiority over the lower races would sit too well with other beast races as well not just men
      And one more thing would men always have the advantage of numbers over elves?

      @@elderliddle2733 Yea, but the Dragonborn kinda fucked that plan apart several times over. The Thalmor are fucked now. The civil war in Skyrim was suppose to last several years with no clear victor as the Thalmors desired goal, but instead the Dragonborn ended it in about 4 seconds and kept Skyrim in the empire and kept the empire strong. The Dragonborn also slaughtered hundreds upon hundreds of Thalmor agents in Skyrim. And then finally, the Dragonborn saved all of Nirn from Alduin the world eater and destroyer (Akatosh/Auri-El's first born), which essentially made him viewed as Shor/Talos 2.0 by all of the Nords and many of the other races of Tamriel as well, which would've just furthered the support for Talos worship by men. Shor and Akatosh sent the Dragonborn down for a reason. Primarily to defeat Alduin and save Nirn, but secondarily to annihilate the Thalmor and restore the empire of men. The Thalmor will be fucked going forward, and the protagonist of Elder Scrolls 6 (most likely a legendary Red Guard Sword Singer Shezzarine we all can assume) will finish the job that the Dragonborn started.

      @@GutstheBlackSwordsmen Well, its pretty well known that the Thalmor were actually the ones behind the 2 moons crisis all along, and simply pretended to be the saviors and fixers of that situation in order to win the Khajiit to their side. You can safely assume that when it is eventually brought to the kingdom of Elswyr and all of the Khajiit of Tamriel's attention that the Thalmor were actually responsible for the moons disappearances and the perpetrators of the deaths of all those millions of Khajiit children, the Khajiit are probably going to respond incredibly violently and kill many high elves and Thalmor and no longer be affiliated with the Aldmeri Dominion haha.

      That isn't entirely true. The races of Men have a much faster reproductive cycle than Elves, and as such can replenish their lands and forces much faster over the same period of time. Possibly this is one reason why the Thalmor are pressing so hard on the internal division angle; in 30 years you end up with a whole new generation of adult Men and likely a new one in the making, but the same can't be said for the Altmer. I think that the Empire would win. The Imperials, as humans with greater fertility than high elves, would be able to replace their losses faster than the Dominion, and since the Empire is larger than the Dominion, they have more resources to rebuild their military as well. In addition, it seems that the Empire might have refitted it’s military to be better suited to fighting magic-using elves. From old helmets and evidence that Great War Legionaries were trained in the heavy armor skill, it seems that the Great War Legions were heavy infantry trained to use heavy armor and engage in melee combat. However, the new legion is equipped with light armor for better mobility (which given that armor is useless again magic is better than more physically protective heavy armor) and their best, most expensive weapon isn’t a melee weapon, but their bows (which against magic, a good bow is the best equalizer a soldier could be equipped with to take down the magic user before they can get into spell range). Just looking at the situation, it seems that the Imperials have used the time granted to them by signing the W-GC wisely.

      @@fieldrook1613 Good point and I agree. Honestly, we have no evidence that the Dominion has recovered that much at all. As far as we know, all that Thalmor bluster could be them trying to bluff their way through having an empty hand of cards. For instance, despite the Dominion being thought to have the best navy, the only real warship you see in the game is the Emperor’s ship the Katariah - an Imperial ship. The only known Dominion ship we ever see is Ancarion’s ship in Solstheim, which looks like it could have been a Nord vessel that the Thalmor bought or stole from a Nord fisherman- maybe it was because they were on a stealth mission, though if that were the case, why is Ancarion not wearing something less “Thalmorish” (he might as well just shout “We’re the Thalmor” at the top of his lungs). While the Dominion could have recovered and have a strong navy and army again, we have absolutely no evidence of that, and it seems equally probable that their army is still weak from being annihilated at the battle of the Imperial City and most of their navy is still at the bottom of Lake Rumare. Who knows?

    • @arabiannights5301
      @arabiannights5301 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@EyeOfMagnus4E201 That seems like a bit of a stretch. We wouldn't see any evidence of the Dominion's recovery because their presence in Skyrim is superficial at best. They operate a small and scattered force of inquisitors, but there is no Dominion army or navy anywhere near Skyrim. Of course there isn't, it isn't their territory nor does is border their territory. It would be a woeful overextension to commit to Skyrim in any meaningful way militarily.
      "For instance, despite the Dominion being thought to have the best navy, the only real warship you see in the game is the Emperor’s ship the Katariah" I mean, we don't really see ships at all to be fair. We see a few flat pieces of wood with a mast that are somehow labelled as ships, and the Red Wave. But, remember, cities like Dawnstar are supposedly 'thriving port towns'. The answer to this riddle is game limitations. Bethesda didn't want to and/or couldn't add moving ships to the sea. Also, why would we see Dominion navy, even if it was within the engine's scope? Why would they sail a warfleet to the Sea of Ghosts? They're probably maintaining some sort of naval hegemony in the southern seas, preparing to institute a renewed blockade at the outbreak of war. They can't just send huge divisions on wintry vacations to a sea so inhospitable some of it is literally frozen shut.
      "The only known Dominion ship we ever see is Ancarion’s ship in Solstheim, which looks like it could have been a Nord vessel that the Thalmor bought or stole from a Nord fisherman" This is just Bethesda being lazy. Why would they create a whole new boat model for an obscure side quest in a DLC? It's not practical when you're on both a timing and fiscal budget.
      Hope this didn't come off as combative, I just don't think it's fair to assert that the Dominion is toothless just because we don't see evidence of their might in Skyrim.

      A legendary Redemption Arc? I mean, I'm hoping the story doesn't go down such a cliché route.
      I mean, it would be far more interesting and shove some good nuance into the story if we actually has a less predictable outcome. I mean, everyone and their grandma thinks the Empire is going to win, despite the in Lore explanations about how;
      The Empire was on its last legs, since most of its Legions were at least half decimated, how they had to tap into reserves.
      How Hammerfell is being independent and hell, they may have their own Civil War between Crowns and Forebarers as they often do, and not to mention the historic rivalry between Redguards and Bretons, and since they're not all together under the Empire, Hammerfell can now attack and wage war with them if they so chose without Imperial repercussions within
      How Morrowind and Blackmarsh have their own problems and won't be aiding the Empire anytime soon, and Skyrim is in open rebellion via Civil War...
      I mean, do you have any idea what it would take to mend all of this? What's the Dominion going through? A few cullings in Valenwood? A situation that can't last forever since they're bound to kill off any main dissenters after some time, Elswyr which is totally fine, Summerset is also stable... I mean, even if we take into account that some within the Dominion don't agree with the Thalmor's actions, many of them still don't like the Empire either, and anti-Empire Propaganda is likely heavy.
      So when we factor the Dominion's potential problems to the Empire's... unless Bethesda pulls some BS Plot Armor/Device out from their asses, the Empire being victorious isn't likely. If they miraculously hold out, sure, but outright win? Nah.

    Since so much of the political environment surrounding the first Great War, and seemingly the same thing going for the Second Great War, are influenced by the real events of the First and Second World War, I wonder how much of the real events will they incorporate in the story.
    Will the Aldmeri Dominion steamroll through the Empire like Germany did in Europe? Will the Empire fall after the war ends like the old Colonial Empires did in our world? Will there be a nuke to finish the war? This one makes me the most curios right now.
    Since the TES version of events is not 1:1 with the real events, maybe the Thalmor will use their nuke first. Where will they use it though? Some big city in Hammerfell or High Rock since the game will most probably take place in that part of Nirn? Or maybe on the Imperial City to finally finish off the Empire? Perhaps on the Adamantine Tower itself. Or maybe the Empire's Alliance (because I believe that Hammerfell and a potentially independent Skyrim will join the Empire in alliance against the elves no mather what) will develop their nuke and drop it somewhere on the Summerset Isles.
    These are all wild speculations but speculations like these keep me stoked for how the story will really turn out

      I have a feeling the protagonist will probably be a legendary Sword-Singer, and for the first half of the game in ES6, they will be obliterating the Thalmor and unifying Hammerfell and bringing it back into the re-united empire in Great War 2. In the 2nd half of the main story ark, the story will take a sharp twist and turn. Something along the lines of a massive Akaviri invasion will occur all across Tamriel, or possibly even the Dwemer return and now seek to genocide every race on Tamriel, or one of the more evil inclined Daedra Lords who hasn't really been touched upon much yet and not utilized in a main story ark villain capacity yet (Jyggalagg, Boethiah, Vaermina, Mephala, Malacath, Peryite, etc) etc, will do something to threaten all of Nirn, which will bring the Aldmeri Dominion back to reality and give all of the races and provinces of Tamriel a common enemy to unite against. We shall see. I hope it comes out sooner rather than later 😬.

    I love this video. Probably one of my favorite, just need you all to follow up with the podcast.
    Seriously though, I support this theory. That is why I believe TES6 will be in both High Rock and Hammerfell. The events of the 4th Era all lead up to this paramount event at Direnni Tower. I can see a game where we start out in the deserts of Hammerfell, a captive or slave. We embark on a journey that sees us thrust into the center of the second great war of Tamriel. This is where my theory that the player character is the avatar of Ebonarm. Through us we must become the symbol of conflict, either through armed aggressive or peaceful solution. Ultimately we must save Nirn from being undone. Help build an army of Man, Mer and Beast in order combat the Dominion. Midway through the main story we should see the full might of the Dominion sweep into the coastal areas of Hammerfell and High Rock.
    My main concern for TES6 will be the combat. Mainly boss encounters. I know Bethesda will keep it simple similar to TES4 and 5. I doubt we will see much in mechanics, it will stay true to hack and slash form of play. Games these days offer a lot of flair with boss mechanics though, so I really want to see some of that in TES6.

    Great videos man. I find this subject in particular very interesting because going through Skyrim I felt regardless which faction you choose the Thalmor are really the only true threat to Skyrim and to humans. Really I think the two factions need to reconcile their differences and unite to fight the Thalmor. With that I have an interesting topic/idea for a future video: What if the Stormcloaks win the war, but the Dragonborn is on their side? I think all the quests in Skyrim canonically reach a conclusion, however I find it doubtful THE Dragonborn completed EVERY quest. So either there were multiple Dragonborn during that time, or the Dragonborn completed some of the quests while other quests were completed by non-dovahkin in the world. That said Titus Mede does die. The empire is leaderless at the end of Skyrim, and as is pointed out traditionally the empire was led by dragon-blood emperors. So if the Dovahkin is the next emperor that gives the empire a bit of an advantage going into the next war. Now if the dovahkin were a stormcloak it would make for an interesting situation. Do the Stormcloaks REALLY want to leave the Empire? or do they simply want the freedom to rule their own country? contrary to belief these do not necessarily mean the same thing. With a stormcloak on the throne I think the Dovahkin could bring Skyrim back into the fold and unite the Imperials and Stormcloaks by granting Skyrim autonomy to conduct it's own affairs while still remaining a part of the empire. Add the fact the Dovahkin could have learned the Bend Will shout and made allies with at least a few Dunmer houses on Solstheim and Empire has a much better chance than it stands at the beginning of the game IN ES:V

    Skyrim does such a good job at connecting and foreshadowing new events in the series. Skyrim for most of the lore has always been disconnected from the rest of the continent, but in TES 5, we see that it can no longer escape the looming geopolitics between the remnants of the Empire and the resurgent Aldmeri Dominion. While not imminent, a second massive war looms that will most likely have one decisive victor, unlike the last, and the Empire is still desperately trying to keep everyone together in anticipation of it.
    Well done, Bethesda.

  • @napdragon94

    I think Elder Scrolls 6: Redfall will take place in Hammerfell 20 years after the events of Skyrim because by then there's a new generation and enough time for the Dragonborn to have mysteriously disappeared in Solstehim (or Apocrypha in actuality). The fate of Ulfric and Tulius will be left ambiguous but it will be made clear which faction ultimately won. I think the Stormcloaks will win making Skyrim an independent country like Hammerfell and they will ally with each other and the Empire despite being weakened with so much lost territory and resources (no Skyrim or Hammerfell) will have bolstered its forces and possibly regained a former province (Morrowind, Elsyr or Valenwood) and make a comeback somehow but a Redguard hero will be key in defeating the Aldemiri Domonion.

    • @Lightscribe225
      @Lightscribe225 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with everything but the alliance. I doubt the Empire is willing to be friends with a traitor who made them waste resources that would have gone towards preparing for the second war and stealing a province that deprived them of war material and soldiers; and Ulfric will be too pigheaded to ally with them. Either they accept his support and pay tribute, or he'll just hold up in Skyrim and let them all die. Likely the game will end with the Dominion winning because the nations of men are separated and weak. An enemy like the Thalmor isn't something you can just introduce and beat the next time you meet them. It's gotta be multiple installments with them winning right up until the climax.

    • @napdragon94
      @napdragon94 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Lightscribe225 well I meant Skyrim would ally with Hammerfell, because they're both former Empire provinces who got screwed by the Empire and Thalmor, share a border and both have a grudge against the Thalmor. It's not impossible the Empire would make a truce with Skyrim, but I think it will fight independently from Skyrim/Hammerfell who have their own victories. In-universe it makes sense for Thalmor to be beaten because the conflict/tension has been going on for a long time by ES6 and people in real life would be tired of the same bad guy for three games Bethesda will want to move on to something else entirely 2 games is enough and we will likely get way more Thalmor lore and more up close and personal with them in ES6 like actually fight large scale battles against them.

    • @Lightscribe225
      @Lightscribe225 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@napdragon94 Again nah. The Dominion has three provinces of manpower to throw at Hammerfell which has a "decomissioned" imperial legion still fighting on the borders. Of the two, Hammerfell would be more likely to ally with Cyrodiil as it means the Concordat is nullified and the Imperials are still helping them indirectly.
      And the ultimate Thalmor goal is to destroy reality and unmake Mundus. That deserves a trilogy at least. Unless Bethesda is run by nothing but hacks, they wouldn't let the Dominion fall without letting us see them lose control in Valenwood and Elsweyr

    26:48 Yes, but that's assuming the Empire hasn't been undermined by the Thalmor. I think there is some good evidence that it has been, not least the murder of the Emperor (yes, I've spent way too much time researching Motiere's allusion to Pelagius's murder; imo, the implications are not good); if the Empire can be taken through a relatively peaceful coup, that is exactly what the Thalmor will do. As we see at the Thalmor Embassy party, the people supporting the Empire in Skyrim are anything but a loyal lot, and I have a bad feeling it's not much different in Cyrodiil. Even General Tullius agrees: "Look around the room and you'll see what we're up against. Just between you and me, a lot of what Ulfric says about the Empire is true" and "The Thalmor invited me here to remind everyone that they can tell the Empire what to do."
    Then there is the fact that Kematu, the sell-sword hired to find Saadia, says this: ""the resistance against the Dominion is alive and well in Hammerfell" What odd wording if the Dominion truly was driven completely out of Hammerfell. Surely then he would have said "Hammerfell will stand strong against the Dominion" or "We drove the Dominion out, and all their supporters must pay" not "the resistance is alive and well". It implies there is still a Dominion presence in Hammerfell, and that not everyone is united in the desire to get rid of it.

    I think three things are being overlooked in regards to the Civil War in Skyrim in this video.
    1- Ulfric is actually making an attempt to reach out to make allies with the Bretons. He is not above making allies, and I think after the thrill of winning dies back to logical thought, they're going to want to make allies with the Redguards.
    2- I don't feel Ulfric is a reliable asset like the Thalmor think. He may accept a treaty, but I think really he'd be just as happy to break it at a moment's notice, especially if Hammerfell gets attacked, he'd want to go and help the very people who succeeded in splitting from the empire.
    3- I feel the Empire's numbers probably have recovered, yes. But consider too that the Land Damage has still been done. The Empire couldn't fight back the Dominion with 4 whole provinces worth of reinforcements, the Empire now has lost Hammerfell, huge damage to Skyrim (even with a smooth win for the Empire), and a war-torn Cyrodiil. The Empire is not going to be able to defend itself again.
    I agree though, the second great war is looking very bleak for the Humans. I stand by that the Skyrim Civil War needs to come to a truce now, The empire needs to make allies with Hammerfell (Not try and conquer it and waste soldiers), and make an attack on the Dominion NOW while the Thalmor are still recovering. I know they'd still be recovering because they are playing the divide and conquer game, and Altmer breed slower than Humans. Bosmer (If you believe ESO) and Khajiit not so much, but I get the feeling the Dominion don't trust non-Altmer with high decision-making. Being supremacists and all.

    There's another thing that stands in the Thalmor's way: population.
    Broadly speaking, by the end of the Great War, both the Dominion and Imperial armies were decimated. That was 30 years ago from the start of Skyrim's timeframe.
    So the Empire has an entire generation of fighting-age men and women to draw from, but altmer don't work like that. Whether you subscribe to the eugenic infanticide theory or that altmer women have much longer menstrual cycles, the point remains that high elves reproduce slower than humans.
    Once the second Great War begins, the Dominion army will be significantly outnumbered by Imperial/Breton, Redguard, and Nord forces.

    • @ciaranmck4469
      @ciaranmck4469 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They ready were outnumbered to begin with last time, they used that artifact and the event of surprise to their advantage
      The humans need to attack first, kinda like how ww2 happened the men need to start slowly ignoring the treaty to see how far the dominion will go to force the empire to adhere to the treaty
      Then the empire should look taking out the justiciers then plan their attack

      It does say something about them that it takes a literal demonic invasion (or fighting in a poisonous land where they alone can survive in) for them to win battles on other races. But its says something about the dark elves as a whole being able to kick their asses after fighting off the dremora (and some fights during the invasion)

    Since the Empire, being a human kingdom, has higher fertility rates to replace their loses, a bigger land area with more resources and people, and also because it seems to have altered their legions’ equipment from slower, heavily armored infantry to faster, lightly armored troops with powerful bows (in Skyrim, the most expensive and powerful piece of equipment any Imperial soldier has is their Imperial bow) to better take out mages at range, the Dominion might not attack the Empire a second time (when this time they’d be ready for it) and instead go straight for Hammerfell, and then onward to the Direnni Tower in Iliac Bay.
    Plus, it would be cool having the climax of the main quest-line be the player character, hopefully as a sword-singer, using their powers and skills to fight off a Dominion attack against the Direnni Tower to save the world.

    I personally want the Thalmor to win just to have a new era where its not the humans dominating like every other fantasy setting. The elves of Tamriel are good enough to have their own setting.
    Or maybe make it so that there is no one force controlling all others but every region is sovereign.

    Though I have only entered this vast fantasy that is Elder Scrolls, I am enjoying it indeed! You know it’s excellent when the civil wars feel real, where you don’t really see the usual “Black And White/ Good and Bad” archetypes! Watching this I’d probably side with the Empire, but playing Skyrim I utterly despise the Empire (and uh killed Ol Mede afore he could give his final words) but, with the Haughty Thalmor, the perplexing end Ulfric’s Rebellion might amount too! It’s this Intricacy I love! Greatly presented too by this video!

    I think Titus Mede is a bad ass. He pulled a long con on the thalmor, used damn good tactics, and was able to reclaim his title. Even tho he was forced to surrender, he only buckled when there was just enough gaurds to defend the town's. He fought till his last man. And managed to turn the tide in the second half. Maybe not in physical capabilities, but intellectually he is a badass.

    • @teyrncousland7152

      If he was a badass he would have fought to the bitter instead of surrendering and spared the empire from the White Gold Concordat and from fracturing. Badasses don't surrender, they either win, retreat or die. It's all or nothing for them.

  • @mace7077
    @mace7077 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Of course as with all of your videos it was truly a pleasure to watch, incredibly entertaining and thought provoking. The in-depth explanation of the original great war outbreaking in cyrodil was very dark, and for some reason how it is addressed in the games made it sound much less graphic, an unfortunate missing of the mark. It makes me wonder if the elder scrolls could benefit from going darker with their stories, and making it less of a series to target all audiences, and rather target simply adults with an M rating. But I digress, I just wanted to say this is an increasingly exciting time, as I feel your analysis will likely become correct, as it would be following in line with all the world building they did in skyrim, as well as why it has taken so damn long to come out. The resources being pooled into ESO are extremely limited and the DLC packs I'm quite sure are just sending money towards making the elder scrolls 6, as all content in ESO now is completely shoddy, and all rebranded DLC from all the previous elder scrolls single player titles, which is very disappointing as they have talent to create new but they choose to continue repurposing the old. If #6 was not initially going to include the second great war, I fear you may have just wrote the story for them to utilize, because this is the sort of scene to set the next massive attack by a daedric prince, especially when the entire world would be on the brink of war. I look forward with great anticipating to the upcoming release, of course after skyrim releases a few more times first. Always a pleasure, take care!
