      Its disgusting, ugly, boring and impractical. Those turn signal buttons are insane, how are you supposed to use them when turning at a roundabout and having to find your buttons when the steering wheel is upside down.

    I am lucky enough to have collected a new model 3 standard range a few days ago. Fantastic electric car. I know they have removed the stalks but to be honest most people (including me) get used to it. I don’t love it but I don’t despise it either. The small annoyance I have is that the automatic windshield wiper do not work too well at this point, especially important in the UK. Also strangely the quietness in the cabin almost alienates you from what is going on in the road, quite strange, almost like removing one of your senses. Other than that, fantastic car

    What is the the range at 120 km per hour ?

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I hope to do a range test in an EV for everyone so if I can get my hands on a Tesla again I’ll be sure to try it out!
      As with all EV’s it depends on the gradients, the traffic, the ambient temp, how many people are in the car, the size of the wheels, with or without air con and more. They use WLTP to give you a range figure in a controlled way which you can beat if you know how to beat it.
      But travelling at 70mph in the winter will be a bit different to travelling 70mph in the summer.
      At the stated 318 miles, to answer it here I would hope that it would be somewhere just under 300 miles. Travel at 60mph and you’ll most likely beat the range quoted (in the summer that is)

  • @davesmith5656
    @davesmith5656 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

    There's always some resistance to change. I'd take a stick-shift over an EV. However ... what happens if your dog paws the screen? Or a backseat kid gets the idea it would be fun to bounce a ball off of it? Or your wife's bracelet bangs against it? Or there's a software glitch (spilled coffee)? Controls or adjustments on a screen require the driver to take their eyes off the road. I had that problem (not in a Tesla) at 20mph, and quickly concluded that all adjustments (sound track, radio station, temperature, maps, addresses, etc.) would be made while the vehicle is stationary and in "park". I prefer buttons I can find by touch. Some drivers with glasses may have difficulty reading screens. All true for an S 63, too.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Some things can be done from memory almost like muscle memory. But yes being distracted by anything is not a good idea when driving. I would operate at most changing tracks, volume adjustment but it depends on the driving situation. If there’s a lot going on in front of me, then I won’t touch anything and my focus would be on that.

    • @Jordoexe

      @@npoleary --- Just a note on Mercedes ... I have discovered what would appear to be a dumb mistake with the key fob for a cabriolet. You can use it to put the roof back up and roll up the windows. I was indoors when it began to rain, and through a window, pressed and held the "lock" button, expecting the roof to go up. The lights flashed, but nothing else. For some odd reason Mercedes wants you to be within three feet of the car for that magic to work, so you have to go out in the rain to put the roof up! Obviously, the car is capable of receiving a signal from 40 yards away. Why would they not let you raise the roof from there, and is there a fix?

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      They do that for everything, so closing the boot via the key, opening and closing windows you have to be right beside it.
      Safety maybe for finger trapping? No idea…would be good if it worked some distance away.

    Sorry, the controls are just too goofy - solutions to problems that don't exist. I don't want to have to hunt through menus on a screen for simple tasks like controlling my vents, much less the silly gear selection. Also, I want indicators in front of me, not to my side (which is why I also dislike the Mini interior). Cheapness should not trump ergonomics.

      @@npoleary Some might disagree - I can't post links here, but search the internet for the woman who drowned recently because she got confused in her Tesla and accidentally put it in reverse. Yes, you can do that in a lot of cars, but with a physical, labeled shift lever of some sort I think it would be less likely. And taking your eyes off the road for vents, wiper speed, etc. is just not safe. This isn't a problem with just Teslas, as lots of car makers are removing buttons. But Tesla seems to be the most extreme case.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you’ll find that anywhere…I mean I have seen clips of someone trying to fuel their Tesla with actual fuel. Not sure if it was real or not (could be staged) but I think that would come down to the person or place they’ve bought the car from to show them.
