My generation takes all these songs for granted because we've heard them thousands of times. Its background noise to us when theyre played. It's really fun watching people experience them the very first time.
And we'll probably never run out of these kinds of videos, because so much GenX entertainment finds its way onto all sorts of reaction channels. We're, like, doubly blessed. Cuz we were barely 17, and we were barely dressed.
True facts. I ran sound at America West Arena in the 90s. We were told to play the song at the end of the warm up period for every Phoenix Suns game and also in the last timeout when if the score was close. We also played it at Coyotes, Mercury, and Rattlers games. I’ve probably heard this song more times than any of the members of Europe.
Considering it saw the start of the longest civil war in my country witnessed in the last 2000 years (which lasted for 27 years). and the Chornobyl disaster in the Soviet Union...Afghan invasion by SU, Beginning of the Mujahideen insanity by CIA, And Pablo Escobar in Columbia...Yeah sure🙂 .
Imagine being 12. Listening on a Walkman. Stood on the Northumberland coast looking out over the North Sea as a black storm rolls in. Wind howling, rain falling. It's an abiding memory from my youth and a song that will be played at my funeral.
I was 9 and listening to this on a Walkman in Alabama (US) while riding my bike. Same experience. Amazing how different continents can experience the same thing. Music is truly a beautiful thing.
@chueysmama2622 That's awesome!! I was a metal guy in the 80s, too (still am) and my secret musical love was ABBA. So glad I don't worry about hiding that stuff anymore!
I'm 50yrs old. My Mom never liked rock or loud music, except this one song! Any time it came on the radio she stopped what she was doing and turned it all the way up!❤ We played this at her funeral, can't listen it without a few teardrops...💔

I hate learning how to sit on hold so I can push buttons on a smart phone.
1986 I was in a taxi and the radio started to play this. I was like frozen at first, and then I shouted to the driver, you have to turn up the volume!! 😂 He looked at me and smiled and turned it up. Oh my what a ride. We laughed and talked about the song we just heard. Good memories.

One of the best things about music of the 80's is the sheer variety and volume of it. Different genres, international artists, music videos, new ways to listen, recording qualities, computers even...an amazing decade in music history.
What you're seeing with the band's look is peak late 80s glam metal. Lots of great songs from that period and underrated bands. They blended pop and metal. Some bands worth looking into from that era are Motley Crue, Hurricane, Cinderella, Warrant, Ratt, Quiet Riot.
I'm going to become a patron just so you know that I want you to discover Jeff Healey.that dude deserves tons of recognition. He's been blind since age one from cancer. Totally blind. He has prosthetic eyes. He got his first guitar at age 3 and learn to play it on his lap. He has played with the best including Stevie Ray Vaughan. He can play that guitar better and I mean a hell of a lot better than any sighted person. I don't care how long it takes I'm going to keep requesting Jeff Healey.come on sugar, do yourself a favor and check this dude out. Try Jeff Healey, See the Light, Night Music 88 . Then check out Jeff haley, and Stevie Ray Vaughan doing little sister. Love your show. Love you young folks checking out our old music. We got a hell of a lot of it and it is all epic
He had a bar, Jeff Healey's Road House in Toronto. There was a lot of star power at the grand opening. One of them was standing beside Jeff, looks around and says:"This place is incredible Jeff! You should see it!"😂
Oh, dear boy, you're so sweet! 🥰! Europe was one of the world's biggest rockbands in the 80s and 90s. They're Swedish. This song is still often played at sports events. But this wasn't the original recording. It was a remix! From Wikipedia: [[ Rolf Magnus Joakim Larsson, a.k.a Joey Tempest, born August 19, 1963 in Åkersberga, outside Stockholm, is a Swedish rock singer and songwriter . He is the singer and frontman of the Swedish hard rock band 'Europe' (all of them raised in Åkersberga, they founded 'Europe' in high school). React to "Carrie"! But don't listen to a remix (as this was), listen to the original. 🥰
I'm new to your channel but I just love watching your little face light up listening to music I've known half my life. :). What you're talking about is good music. Real music, pre auto tune and pitch correction. Before it was formulaic. It's different, unique, and real talent. We oldies do complain about a lot of modern music, and this is why. Europe was a Swedish band.
You just hit another milestone in your journey. You're now officially a child of the 80's. We had the music - now we're glad to share what we grew up on. Now you have to dive into some more Canadian rock! Check out April Wine - "Roller", "Weeping Widow", "Could Have Been A Lady", "I Like To Rock" for some great 70's/80's guitar rock.
Joey Tempest, the singer was one of the hottest guys during the 80s, he has the BEST hair🙌🏻 During the 80s and the prime of the hair and glam metal this was the look🙌🏻 Europe are still on the road and are even better now ( fel bands are cause of the drugs and so) They have done sooo much good, Carrie, Cherokee are song that must be reacted, it’s a good Rabbit Hole to Jump in too. Swedens most famous music export after ABBA 💪🏻
Mate, best reaction video ever! The first time this song hit the radio and MTV in 1986 I had the exact same reaction as you! Chills! Tears! I was like WHAT THE FUCK AM I HEARING?! This track went to number 1 in 26 COUNTRIES and is still performed by Europe to close their live shows today! They have had several top 10 and top 40s hits over the years, but "Countdown" was, is and will always be Europe's crowning glory!
Europe is a Swedish rock band formed in Upplands Väsby in 1979,[5] by lead vocalist Joey Tempest, guitarist John Norum, bassist Peter Olsson, and drummer Tony Reno. They obtained a major breakthrough in Sweden in 1982 by winning the televised competition "Rock-SM" (Swedish Rock Championships); it was the first time this competition was held, and Europe became a larger success than the competition itself.
This song was released during the cold war, at the height of fears of nuclear war. As teen during this time, we lived under the vale of the ultimate destruction and annihilation. This song represented a push back against that fear, a push back against against all the bullshit we were living under. Yes, the band was a one hit wonder... but what a hit.
You get goosebumps the first time hearing? Dude, I'm 50 and I still get goosebumps when I hear something like this from my youth and haven't heard in a long time. I just have to whip out my air guitar and start jamming along. Thank You for the trip down memory lane.
5:34 you ask "what the hell is this bruv?" and the answer is... THIS IS THE 80'S!! WELCOME!! Europe had some other really good songs, you should check them out, for example "Cherokee" 😀
This song came out in 1986, and I LOVED this band. I was in love with the lead singer (Joey Tempest). In 1987, I and a friend were at a big house party, and I saw this gorgeous man across the room, and we locked eyes immediately. He was leaning with his back against the wall, looking all cool. He looked exactly like the lead singer. Hair, same build, clothes, everything! He brought me a beer from the keg , and we talked and talked for the rest of the night. We had a little fun later 🤭😉 oh, those were such great memories!
I'm genuinely surprised that you hadn't heard , at least the opening synth, somewhere...sporting event, shipping, TV commercial...somewhere. one of those things that is practically unavoidable. 😀. They have a few more hits...glad to see you blown away by the song. I imagine it will hang around for many, many years to come.
He is beautiful with a great voice and hair! Another album I loved and listened to hour after hour. Recently pulled it up on Amazon Prime….1986 all over again only now with a much nicer car and speakers. It is such a wonderful song played really loud.
I loved growing up with this amazing music in the 1970’s-1980’s! Your reaction to it is fantastic and you can see your excitement! Keep listening and enjoy!
Check out their ballad Carrie. When this came out in 86 you couldn't avoid hearing it. It was everywhere. In addition to being pretty boys, they could actually play and had some talent.
The album from where this song came from was huge. Other hits from it were Carrie (ballad) and Rock the Night but the album was absolutely full of great songs. Their next album 'Out Of This World' also did well and the best selling single from that was 'Superstitious'. They had another excellent album after that called 'Prisoners in Paradise' but it did not get promoted very well. They disbanded about 1992 and later got back together in about 2003 and their style has changed a lot - having a lot heavier sound now.
One of the greatest rock anthems ever and is played is sports arenas around the world including at Denver Broncos games as the parachutists jump from the plane and land on the field during some home games.
This is the music we listen when we were young, somewhere like 13-15 and first time slow dance with a girl. This is the reason of many of you have born :D Older than internet :D Greetings from Finland! 🤘🎶 🖤 🎸🇫🇮
Thank you for this! I remember having the same reaction when I first heard this song in 1986. It was great to relive that experience through you watching this!
Man that was so fun watching you react to this song. I’ve heard it a million times and take it for granted. Dang thank you for bringing a new enjoyment to this song for me! It truly is an anthem. Beam me up🛸🛸
I was 7 years old when this was released and I got the chills of my life. I remember the moment I first heard this very clearly. It was the greatest piece of music I had ever heard and it gave me the forever love that I have for quitar solos. This song set the seed of rock/ metal in me and although it's now grown into full appreciation of heavy growls and headbanging riffs, I'll always love the 80's epic hair metal. Still can't get through this song without some strong emotion hitting me.
Awesome song! 😎👍 I'm 50 and fondly remember listening and jamming to Europe in 6th grade and thinking they had many 'hits!' I can't think of names, except for "Carrie" but I'm gonna TH-cam some now!! 😆 👍😁
I couldn't help myself but had to dance each time they played this at the night clubs when I was young. It sparked crazy energy and happiness in me and nearly 40 years later it gives me chills. Someone in these comments said it is annoying background noise now, but it's not. It's still as great as it was in 1986 ❤
These guys are legendary. They have a massive following, all ages, especially in Japan, and have been touring all over world for the past two decades. The show in Italy couple of days ago in September was phenomenal and the last one for the summer this year. Europe is a band from Sweden and has 11 albums. Joey Tempest, the lead singer, said they will be now back to the studio to record a new album. Look forward to see them perform next year and also see a documentary they are working on. Joey is still gorgeous, by the way, tons of energy, charisma and stage presence. He can still work that mic stand like it’s made out of air. Hope you see them perform live next year
This is the best reaction to this song I've ever seen. John Norum on guitar is so underrated. They are still touring and are still great. Next Europe song should be Rock the night
I love your reaction to 8.20 for the guitar solo 😃 I love seeing young people having fun with the extraordinary groups of past decades. I have to admit that there were some phenomenal sounds🤘🤩
1987 Athens...Greece won the European basketball championship...this song was blasting in the stadium, streets....all over the country like a national anthem ❤
Dude! This album appeared in my paper factory working parents elementary school little prat life and WWOOOW - it was heavy back then 🤘🏻😅 Now I listen to death core, but still LOVE Europe. Oh and their song Carrie from this album.........chef's kiss 😘
My generation takes all these songs for granted because we've heard them thousands of times. Its background noise to us when theyre played. It's really fun watching people experience them the very first time.

So true, in fact this was always a song I didn't really rate much so it's great to get a new appreciation for how good these songs really were 😊
I always feel like I'm about to watch a big sports game.
In 100 years this song will still be played in major arenas.

Check out their ballad Carrie. When this came out in 86 you couldn't avoid hearing it. It was everywhere. In addition to being pretty boys, they could actually play and had some talent.
A MUST!!!!
This reminds me a lot of Eurovision
I wore this cassette tape OUT when I was in Junior High. So glad to watch someone else receive it for the first time.
Your reactions are one of the few real reactions, you react naturally and that is excellent. Greetings from Guadalajara Mexico
“This sounds pure 80’s” 😂😂
Mollyboy, I can’t think of a more 80s tune 😂😂😂
This has got to be listened to loud and screamed along to.
"Rock the Night" is another outstanding, high energy, Europe track
One of the greatest rock anthems ever and is played is sports arenas around the world including at Denver Broncos games as the parachutists jump from the plane and land on the field during some home games.
Big hair, big sound, iconic.
Your reaction to this made me laugh. Good one, little brother.
Glad you enjoyed
They have a couple other songs that were kind of big but this one was MASSIVE. It's a hell of an anthem
This is the music we listen when we were young, somewhere like 13-15 and first time slow dance with a girl. This is the reason of many of you have born :D Older than internet :D
Greetings from Finland! 🤘🎶 🖤 🎸🇫🇮
Thank you for this! I remember having the same reaction when I first heard this song in 1986. It was great to relive that experience through you watching this!
Your greatest reaction, dude!!!!!
Still can't get through this song without some strong emotion hitting me.
this song plays at every hockey match in sweden I've been to, and still I'm not tired of it! so goood
glam is full of epic solos and voices...and yes, jump for Van Halen-Jump 🤘
“A magician named GOB.” Love this song.
Awesome song! 😎👍
I'm 50 and fondly remember listening and jamming to Europe in 6th grade and thinking they had many 'hits!' I can't think of names, except for "Carrie" but I'm gonna TH-cam some now!! 😆
👍😁
Hope you see them perform live next year
If a song has more than a billion clicks, it must be a real anthem.
This is the best reaction to this song I've ever seen. John Norum on guitar is so underrated. They are still touring and are still great. Next Europe song should be Rock the night
Your reactions have me hooked and rewatching these great songs. Thank you
I love your reaction to 8.20 for the guitar solo 😃 I love seeing young people having fun with the extraordinary groups of past decades. I have to admit that there were some phenomenal sounds🤘🤩
I've been on you for only a couple few months.....lovin' your choices and reacts. Thanx dude.
Im Proud to be swedish ❤ Love them ❤ Best ever ❤
An epic song, this was all over the radio stations back in the day. Top 40 radio was actually worth listening to back then because of songs like this.
And. Yes. He is too pretty to be a man. 😂
Joey Tempest used to always get voted best looking man in rock on polls❤😂
Swedes are beautiful people!
