  • Here with another Scorpions reaction. Before Wind Of Change, the only Scorpions song I had listened to was Still Loving You. A lot of people told me that isn't their usual sound so I decided to try something else by them. Their sound so far has been impeccable and the lead singers vocals are a 10 out of 10! Let me know what you think of this one!
Here is my reaction to hearing Scorpions - Wind Of Change for the first time. I hope you enjoy it!

Boomer here who grew up during the Cold War. I visited both West and East Berlin in May 1988, thinking I’d never see the Berlin Wall come down in my lifetime. 18 months later, people were dancing atop the wall and tearing it down with pickaxes and their bare hands. My first reaction was, “They’ll be shot!” But no. In a moment, it seemed, everything had changed. It was a beautiful, thrilling moment that I’ll never forget.

the history is about Germany and the fall of the Berlin wall but more importantly, about the end to all wars. They are a German band so it would be heavily referenced by them seeing as they were together as a band and played through that time period.

Scorpions have a pretty diverse catalogue. You won't be able to pin down a "characteristic" sound style for them, because they don't have one. They just make music, and are much less concerned with the marketability of a consistent sound.
Keep in mind, they've been going since 1965 (and are still recording and doing shows today). So these guys are right up there with the Beatles and the Stones.
Most of their early songs are about Sex and Love, with a few exceptions sprinkled in, but that only continued into the mid 1980s, and everything after that has been a crapshoot, the subject could be anything.
Since vocalist Klause joined in the late 70s, (he's the singer on all their studio albums), they have been regarded for rock ballads, but that is by no means all they do.
    Notable songs:
"Bad Boys Running Wild" (put them on the map)
"Rock You Like A Hurricane" (their most famous)
"Animal Magnetism" (most commonly cited by other musicians)
"The Future Never Dies" (Best live recording, not overdubbed)
    "The Zoo" (A fan Favorite)
"Humanity" (Revitalized the band with younger audiences)
"Rock Believer" (that one came out less than 18 months ago).
"Love is the Answer" - MTV Unplugged (Hear the band founder, Rudy, sing... yes, they have two accomplished singers, even if you normally only hear the one).
The band however will celebrate their 60th anniversary next year, so their discography is massively larger than this, many hundreds of songs. Also tons of guest appearances on other artist's albums as well. I especially like the track Klause recorded with Avantasia.
They are, by far, one of the most influential rock bands ever. They make everyone's top-10 list for most influential bands, along side The Stones, ACDC, Skynyrd, Zepplin, etc.

The guitarist is Rudolph Schenker, who formed the band in 1965. Things did not come together till 1970 when the singer Klaus Mein and Rudolf's younger brother, Michael (15 years old) joined the band. Two amazing and ground breaking guitarist from same family.
Michael Schenker was just 16 when The Scorpions recorded their debut album in 1972, but Michael left in 1973 to join UFO (another band you need to check out). He did briefly return to The Scorpions in 1978 before forming his own band, MSG (Michael Schenker Group).
UFO's live double album is amazing! Need to listen "Rock Bottom" live.😊

this song makes grown men weep. i'm not sure how much of the song's composition and release timing was a PR stunt. the Scorps, unlike any other german band, had become the "rock ambassadors" of Germany - no other band could've appropriately presented this song. but in hindsight, it doesn't matter. maybe it was really the band that genuinely felt like creating this - they were, after all, among the few that had played behind the Iron Curtain. whatever - what matters are the memories, the magic of the moment, and the beauty of the song. :-)

    • @Arkryal
      @Arkryal 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Yeah, the timing on this was flawless. It was recorded before the wall fell, but only by a few months, and the video was released just after the wall came down.
The cracks were starting to show with the Soviet Union, so it was assumed the wall would fall at some point, but nobody knew exactly when (it was kind of a surprise when it finally happened, even if it was seen as inevitable, it really happened fast... kind of by mistake, lol... interesting bit of history there, lol). But there were years of building anticipation leading up to that, which is what the song is really about... not something that had happened, but something that was anxiously anticipated.

Scorpions were around forever, before having a major hit, outside their native Germany. Damn near 15 years into their career, they started to have hits with the 1979 album Lovedrive. The Blackout album in 1982, was their first huge breakthrough, that made them a household name. From 79-92, they did really well. " rock you like a hurricane" was the biggest, besides this. You've likely heard " rock you like a hurricane" its been in tons of movies

The Scorpions - Sails of Charon with their original guitarist Uli Jon Roth is a banger. He is an amazing guitarist, and to think the Scorpions "second guitar player" is still awesome says a lot about the talent in that band.

Scorpions are a great hard rocking band that also threw in softer songs that both men and women could enjoy (some girls don't like heavy rock). You picked two softer ones thar are awesome and make sure to check out the harder stuff too. You'll like it. The Zoo. Blackout, Rock you like a hurricane. No one like you. Big city nights. Other soft melodies that must be heard are Send me an Angel. Holiday. Loving you Sunday morning. All hits! Keep going down that rabbit hole.

Great reaction MollyBoy!! To fully understand this song is to know what was going on at the time! The USSR, Soviet Union as we knew it was falling apart - the Iron Curtain was coming down. Germany was being reunified, the Berlin Wall was being dismantled - Scorpions being from Germany understood the impact of this - families that had been apart for decades were now able to reunite! It was huge - and there was a beautiful feeling of hope!
This song was more than just a ballad - it was a love song to the peace that was happening at the time - unfortunately, we need this again - how fragile peace can be! Let's hope a Wind Of Change comes through again! Cheers!

The sound of the Cold War ending. Truly classic. More than a song, this was us watching the social constructs of the world evolving before our eyes. Now, The Zoo is my favorite Scorpions song.

The very first time I heard this was while watching a Filipino cover band in Singapore. They nailed it, (including the whistle) I had been at sea so didn't get to hear it before that.
    I LOVE the Scorpions.
I rock with them, but this my favorite song.
