after about 15rounds of conquest and breakthrough actively using the soflam I can only say so much. In theory it is an insanely valuable gadget, sadly in all of the 15 rounds only 2 people ever took advantage of the lock on... so yeah if youre not playing as a friends only squad with actual communication the soflam is practically worthless
How do you set up Angel's Loadout Crate with your three loadouts the same, just gadget is different: beacon, soflam and recoilless? How do you do it on an Xbox Series S, specifically? When I go to Collection>Specialists I don't see any "Loadouts" option to customize. When I interact with Angel's Loadout Crate in the game it only allows me to switch items for my current class. In the video, you are using the crate to switch between loadouts in different classes. Would love to know how to do that.
Did this feature get changed in latest 2042 update? I played yesterday and it acted totally different. Also the spotting worked differently. Maybe it is somehow connected to the latest specialist that can block the spots. But I was trying to lock onto a helicopter and the red marker never showed up.
You are wrong about how the SOFLAM works with the M5 Rocket. You describe it as once you see the Red square on the vehicle/chopper etc the M5 rocket becomes a shot and forget. This is ONLY true IF the SOFLAM player is Holding the lock on through the SOFLAM. If the SOFLAM player is only applying the Red square Sure you will get the visual "Lock On" indication with the M5 like you see with the FXM-33 but unless the SOFLAM player is holding that lock the Rocket from the M5 will NOT track and hit. You even show this at 2:05 when you try and make it seem like you can do this solo and miss the tank.. You cant. If you want to do it solo use the FXM as the SOFLAM allows the FXM to lock onto Ground vehicle too. You cannot solo with the M5 and the SOFLAM. You Must as the SOFLAM player Hold the Lock on the vehicle, chopper, plane etc that you want to get targeted in order for the M5 rocket to track and hit the target. IF the lock breaks from the SOFLAM the M5 rocket will not hit. The M5 rocket only becomes guided if the SOFLAM is holding the lock on. However IF you continue looking through the SOFLAM without un ADSing and that target comes back into a view and you lock back on within a short period of time the lock will re Engauge the missile and hit. This is why sometimes you see rockets doing crazy swirls in the air. If the SOFLAM worked the way you showed and described it then it would be so over powered. TL:DR: If you the player is using the SOFLAM, hold the lock on to the chopper, plane, vehicle until you see it destroyed. Otherwise anyone using the M5 that locks onto that target will not Hit. You are the Guider with the SOFLAM for the M5. If you break the Lock the Missle no longer knows where to go. Think of the FXM-33 having a built in SOFLAM. The M5 doesnt have it so you must Guide it. For what its worth using the SOFLAM is meh. The majority of players Ignore it. I sometimes can be holding a lock on a chopper for over 30sec sometimes even a minute long and not a single teammate out of the 64 players on my team will shot an M5 rocket at it. its frustrating because they just dont know better. However if you have a squad of friends or if you do end up on a team that knows whats going on the SOFLAM is devastating. But most of the time its ignored. Just my experience. I personal think the best part about the SOFLAM is that it allows the FXM to lock onto vehicles aswell as it highlights enemies. Not enough people know how the M5 works with it. :/
Sometimes it’s annoying because the red square should only pop up if SOFLAM is locked on. It shouldn’t stay up if the target isn’t painted by the player. That’s why I don’t use the M5 because I see the red square, but my M5 doesn’t want to lock on to it and I get frustrated
@@mokokoco4720 While im sure there is bugs with the SOFLAM and sometimes with the red square "ive seen a few" the main reason your M5 doesn't Lock On is because the Soflam player is not holding the lock or the target is too far away. The SOFLAM has a range of 400 meter. IF you shot your M5 while the target is within that 400 meters as i hold the lock with the soflam it will hit. IF the target goes past that 400 meter "sometimes" it will still hit but most of the time the target will get away and the M5 rocket will un track because the Soflam is out of range to guide it. Additionally IF the target flairs it will un track and explode. Those that dont understand how the soflam works "Usually due to these type of videos" Think that once they apply the red square with the Soflam that this is all that is needed. All that does is Highlight the target for 8-10sec. The Most important thing is to hold the Lock On the target you want to get destroyed. The Soflam is Devastating if you have just a couple of people on the team that knows how it works with the M5. If you dont hold the Lock as the Soflam player M5 Rockets will not track. Like the FXM-33. The SOFLAM is the guider for the M5 rocket. The Soflam turns the M5 into the FXM-33 but ONLY if the Soflam player holds the lock. Now TBH i dont play much of the M5 side of things bc i prefer to be the Soflam player. I think the main problem on the M5 side of things is that there is No indication that the Soflam player is holding the lock. Unless you're communicating over VOIP/discord telling your teammates you're holding the lock you just never know. Because once the red square is applied for those 8-10sec the M5 will Lock on no matter what. However it will not track unless again the Soflam player is holding the lock. So alot of times people will shot their M5 too early or too late bc the M5 player doesnt know if the soflam is holding the lock or not as there is no indication correct me if im wrong. As i mentioned like is shown in 2:05 in the vid with the tank. IMO there should only be a LOCK ON through the M5 sights when the Soflam player is holding the lock and NOT just when the red square appears on target. IDK if this is a bug or intended. I think its intended bc if all you had to do is apply the red square the M5 would become way too OP. None the less yeah im sure there is plenty of bugs, but i can assure you the majority is user error from not understanding exactly how it works. When you do finally get on a team that trusts you as the soflam player or understands how it works you end up seeing like 10+ M5 rockets at time tracking on target LOL. Its seriously amazing to watch. Pro tip if you do get on a team with a good SOFLAM player. Dont shot your M5 rocket right away. Let the Aircraft blow its flairs off first. Alot of time when the soflam locks on... aircraft players panic and instantly shot their flairs off.
@@Lazereer it’s not user error. I can’t be close and it won’t lock which is frustrating. I know how to use the thing when but I’m saying the red square should only appear when it’s been locked and not just painted. That’s why a lot of people don’t use it because they are on the same boat as me.
@@mokokoco4720 Im not sure what issue youre describing. If it has the red diamond around it, it can usually be locked. unless its further than 400m or if it flared within the last roughly 8 seconds. these are the only 2 scenarios that I can't lockon to a soflamed target. ofc, it obstacles are in the way like trees it also doesnt work. note; - it seems that often an m5 user can't see the chopper flare when looking through the m5 scope. I usually know that it flared because I lost my lockon progress. - the diamond stays on the chopper even after it just flared, which may cause confusion. after about 8 seconds it can be locked on again. - ping the chopper to see how far away it is just a few tips. having a mate with constant soflam in the squad and it seems quite reliable (ofc not flawless, but what is flawless in this buggy piece of shit anyways :P)
Also, you can lock onto "painted" air targets, with Air To Ground Missiles. That's why I try to only run with that loadout, but barely anyone uses SOFLAM.....
Got to check this device again. I unlocked it long time ago, but was pretty much useless since nobody would shoot rockets at targets and even if they did there "was" a bug that you got no points at all for the vehicle kill. No assist, nothing. One thing, as far as I know the enemy can see a red glare similar to sniper scope glare when you are looking at them with the designator. So tanks could easily snipe you before the lock was finished. Maybe they removed it in some update. it. Thx for the vid.
With 128 players who either have this, recoiless, or the AA rockets, I think it’s safe to say air vehicles need two sets of flares. You have barely stay in the sky for 20 second before getting blasted
good. from the perspective of OP pilots who attack spawn points... Spawning in a *random* spot and rockets are already raining down... Now I get that copters are OP by design but also have way too much armor or repair ability in the 1st place. I mean irl any LMG would cut it down in a few seconds but in video games it takes multiple rockets, multiple .50cal direct hits, multiple everything, which is annoying. Plus the *unlimited ammo* which imo is ridiculous, considering foot soldiers are limited to a few mags.
@@laptopdragon you have ways to recharge, you call us tanky but I’m in reality we get obliterated by one recoiless and soflam, our flares still take forever and we still sometimes get hit. Fuck it this game is ruined
Just throwing it out there; maybe they should have different balancing for vehicles in 128 and 64 player matches. not saying thats the solution, just an idea. the way they balanced vehciles is making em more clunky (tank mainturrets turning with input delay like old tv-missile^^) quite the shitshow imho, and instead of giving us a wire-guided shoulder fired rocket launcher like the sraw or at4 the best option rn is stingers or soflam+m5^^ 2042 is the bf with the least teamplay of all bfs I played so far and it relies heavily on it (like always^^)
@@laptopdragon can't quite compare bf to reality. a human wouldnt walk away from getting direct impacted by a 57mm flakcanon shot, let alone being revivable after a MBT tankshell hit him in the face^^ the transport choppers are a little too beefy but mostly thats due to too little players actually shooting them (even when they are soflamed). ammo you can regain (angel is a must in a squad anyway imho to regain all the rockets). vehicles you can engange (need mates for that tho) by either getting good with explosives such as m5 or c5 or having a buddy with soflam or also by whipping out ye olde stinger. granted, teamplay I basicly only see when playing with friends in discord and granted, this doesnt always work. Often matches (at least on 64 players) seem decided by which team has the better vehicle players. which also seemed in older bfs to be the case. how would you want to change the ammo for vehicles? they can make one strafe-run and then have to fly back to base, land and recharge? sincere question, I also think its funny that they have unlimited ammo, but I wouldnt know of a good change that wouldnt make them useless and/or too unfun.
New to trying this gadget in the game, and as much as I search online to find this answer and try to figure this out, I must be missing something. Good job. Nice to have this kind of video for one specific gadget. But there’s a little mistake here. The range for spotting is not 500m. It’s 400m exactly.
depends. A stinger will always hit a tank from top and thus always deal 'top hit damage'. (m5 may do less damage from a direct frontal hit depending on where you hit). you may also be able to curve the m5 enough by firing it upwards to get a top hit on the tank.

Had no idea about the zoom function. Also great idea with the switching characters to lock on your own targets
Great content lately!
Thanks for this video! I loved it.
I never realized it did so many auto spots. I have RAO Tier one but this gadget alone could have you get those 4000 spots lasting hours instead of 3 days like i did (proxies and spamming q).
Thanks for the tips CHAD woman
Note: Anti air can lock onto ground vehicles that are marked
This is my favorite gaming channel by far. Thanks for this great video.
it seems another valuable hint from you for Battlefield 2042 in which I really started enjoying this game a lot. Thank you.
you can get 20K xp per round if you use soflam and caspers drone. its incredible
Great channel! Even though there were some design decisions that made the game not very enjoyable to me, I still play cause I am a sucker for BF and your content helps make 2042 a bit more tolerable.
No Cad Woman, you are awesome, thank you!
Never would have thought to use this I honestly forgot it was even in the game
Very, very nice video. Learned something new and I'm at 200 hours!
Im on 1200 hours on bf3 and bf4 together but learned so much this years with bf 2042. Now I knew that I had no clue what I was doing in bf3 and bf4. Just had fun with everything, no matter if it was the „right“ thing or the „wrong“ thing - just fun. In battlefield 2042 I have fun but it is limited 😅 U getting frustrated if the game is so buggy with everything.
wow!! i was just complaining about how a heilo expert can dominate this game. And how we need javelins back or more stinger ammo. It was right under our nose all this time. Thx!!!
Lol you got that right
if you want to fight back choppers even harder, keep in mind the following tip ;)
if the air vehicle flares, but you stay on it, it will be instantly lockable for an m5 rocket launcher after about 8 seconds. Note that you dont need to 'stay on target' for the entire 8 seconds with the soflam or m5, maybe after 5-6 seconds you should get back on it (easily enough time for the m5 to reload after first shot ;)). You will not get a locking-on 'notification' but it still gets done (silently). same for m5. Instead of having to 'fully lock on', you'll be instantly locked on after the flares (+ the roughly 8 second duration), leaving the chopper only a few ways out of certain death if it stayed within 400m (and it doesnt matter if he leaves the 400m range after the missile has been successfully locked on and fired)
Wow thanks, this was very helpful and informative!
after about 15rounds of conquest and breakthrough actively using the soflam I can only say so much. In theory it is an insanely valuable gadget, sadly in all of the 15 rounds only 2 people ever took advantage of the lock on... so yeah if youre not playing as a friends only squad with actual communication the soflam is practically worthless
This is the first video I’ve watched from you and I already like your content! You got a sub from me💪🏻
Thank you! :)
The loadouts are not existing anymore.
Did this feature get changed in latest 2042 update? I played yesterday and it acted totally different. Also the spotting worked differently. Maybe it is somehow connected to the latest specialist that can block the spots. But I was trying to lock onto a helicopter and the red marker never showed up.
great explanation! thank you!
TL:DR:
If you the player is using the SOFLAM, hold the lock on to the chopper, plane, vehicle until you see it destroyed.
If it has the red diamond around it, it can usually be locked. unless its further than 400m or if it flared within the last roughly 8 seconds.
these are the only 2 scenarios that I can't lockon to a soflamed target. ofc, it obstacles are in the way like trees it also doesnt work.
note;
- it seems that often an m5 user can't see the chopper flare when looking through the m5 scope. I usually know that it flared because I lost my lockon progress.
- the diamond stays on the chopper even after it just flared, which may cause confusion. after about 8 seconds it can be locked on again.
- ping the chopper to see how far away it is
just a few tips. having a mate with constant soflam in the squad and it seems quite reliable (ofc not flawless, but what is flawless in this buggy piece of shit anyways :P)
very good tip and explanation. if you're from europe we're usually 3 mates playing and 95% of the time one guy has the soflam ;-)
All your tool guides are os useful
Also, you can lock onto "painted" air targets, with Air To Ground Missiles. That's why I try to only run with that loadout, but barely anyone uses SOFLAM.....
Switch seats my guy, paint them and agm em, question though is the agm fire and forget?
I will be using it as soon as I unlock it you best believe that
I love watching the heli gunners and passengers bail out ASAP when there's a lock-on Hahahaha
Unfortunately most players don't care. But if you have a good team it is really powerful!
I keep telling my team to use it but instead they treat the game like COD.,great video 👍
Then you use it, I've won games for newb teams ......
they didn't know it though .....They just commented they were confused why I had 264 assists xD
Thanks for the info!
As a Pilot with ground missiles equiped i love people who play soflam ! easy kills for ground and air !
You earned my subscription with this vid. Thumbs up!
Holy crap I kept seeing these squares popping up in a game last night and had no idea what it was.
Except the Jets. Fuck the Jets. They’re OP
good.
from the perspective of OP pilots who attack spawn points...
Just throwing it out there; maybe they should have different balancing for vehicles in 128 and 64 player matches.
not saying thats the solution, just an idea.
the way they balanced vehciles is making em more clunky (tank mainturrets turning with input delay like old tv-missile^^)
quite the shitshow imho, and instead of giving us a wire-guided shoulder fired rocket launcher like the sraw or at4 the best option rn is stingers or soflam+m5^^
2042 is the bf with the least teamplay of all bfs I played so far and it relies heavily on it (like always^^)
Very good video, I love using it.
Do air support use soflam targets? Jets helos get benifit too? Can us recons get help from our air supports?
They can use them if they keep their eyes open. Same for ground vehicles with lock-on weapons.
@@TheCadWoman Thanks I solo a lot, and SoFLAM many targets while sniping supporting, always wondered if other craft can use them besides engineers
Does it mark targets for your entire team or just your squad?
For the entire team.
I'm gonna pair this with Casper and see how I do I already get a shit ton of spot assists but I'm about to double it
Best way to use this strat is 1 casper 2 engies 1 angel with crate go to highest point with your squad, enemy team are going to fucking hate yo asses
New to trying this gadget in the game, and as much as I search online to find this answer and try to figure this out, I must be missing something.
I pull the goggles out and aim at a vehicle/aircraft. The target square gets all the way to a tight yellow square, but never actually turns red and locks on no matter how long I keep it there. Is there something I have to do to get it to lock on?
I'm on PS5 if that matters.
When it's yellow and you hear a long beep sound it's locked on. They have changed the colors over time.
@@TheCadWoman Thanks Cad, I get the yellow color and beeping noise when I use it. Does it ever turn red like in your video and allow me to lock onto another vehicle? Because in your video, you're getting a red lock on and locking on to multiple vehicles. Or, has something changed since you made this video and I just have to sit there scoped in on the same vehicle until someone shoots it?
@@kylebaker8634 It‘s not turning red anymore. This was changed. It stays yellow now. You can also get out of the scope and the vehicle stays designated for another few seconds.
It's a great tool. I'll have to try Locking and then throwing Sundance's grenades.
Very Nice and Useful, thank you. Can't wait to ruin some Eli's evening tonight 😁😁
Why is my m5 shots not hitting tanks when i see the red rectangle on them? They always miss. Do i have to aim for the red rectangle? Do i have to precisely aim for the red rectangle?
You have to aim down sights and wait for the M5 to lock on. Then it should work.
@@TheCadWoman thanks!
ok lvl 56...I'll wait a bit. thanks for info :)
Great videos!
Liebe das video :) guter content. Du bist deutsch oder?
Danke. Ja bin ich.
according to todays (19.01.2022) Patchnotes, the SOFLAM is now visible for enemies within a longer range :(
Is this gadget still working the same way? I feel its not locking the spot for vehicle for few seconds anymore 😢
It does work in the same way. Only the color has changed.
Thanks I was wondering what the capabilities were of the soflam.
It’s also super easy to level up to tier 1. I’ve had it unlocked for like 2 hours and I’m already 525/4,000 spots for tier 1
Play Rao alongside the Soflam and you will level him up to Tier 1 as well. ;)
My gripe is that it doesn’t act as a range finder. Really seems like it should show distance.
I has able to target everything in the lil bird the other day when someone on team had sloflam. Any lock on in the game can target it.
Choppers can still dodge and evade with the super unrealistic effective flares. In this game flares are a 100 % counter meassure whereas in real world its a 50/50 thing. But this is dice in nutshell - vehicles and choppers are always op’ed !
Good video 👍
Does it have a reflection like a sniper would?
Yes it has a red glint.
Thank you ❤
it also means AA missiles can be used against tanks etc
Would be nice to get some points if a vehicle you marked gets destroyed
can you spot the same enemy multiple times in 1 life and it count towards soflam spots??
Yes of course. The spotting time is only a few seconds and then you can spot them again.
@@TheCadWoman thats so wild because i swear my friend and i spotted like 40 people in game (we seriously lost count), and it only said we got like 18 spots. But idk lmao we got the sniper now that we need to unlock. Just seemed like we spotted sooo many enemies while it said half the amount that we spotted was actually spotted it seemed like lmao. But thank you for the reply!!
Can someone tell me how do I change my soflam crosshairs colors? Because my soflam is very purplish dark and can hardly see, unlike this video is super clear thanks in advance
Check your custom colors. Have you set anything to a dark purple? Not sure what the crosshair color is bound to.
@@TheCadWoman yes I wanted to change the soflam sight like yours without compromising my regular sight unfortunately I couldn’t do it but yes you can change the color of soflam but it changes your main too thank your for the prompt reply
For some reason now i cant look trough it i can inly place it down ? Season 4
You can place down the Soflam? 😳
@@TheCadWoman yah, was trying to get Gol rifle unlocked and all I could do with soflam was place it down someone in chat said the spotting is automatic but didn't seem to work, thought it was just a server but tried other one was the same
@@TheCadWoman oh never mind I think it works different in different eras, I was using it in Bf3 era I think didn't even know you can unlock it in 2042 era, oops im new to this game
Good job. Nice to have this kind of video for one specific gadget. But there’s a little mistake here. The range for spotting is not 500m. It’s 400m exactly.
Cool tip
very nice thanks
does soflam increase damage to targeted vehicle like in bf4?
no only spots them and puts a mark so people can lock on it
depends. A stinger will always hit a tank from top and thus always deal 'top hit damage'. (m5 may do less damage from a direct frontal hit depending on where you hit). you may also be able to curve the m5 enough by firing it upwards to get a top hit on the tank.
Is it just me, or do you not get assists for vehicle kills when you target them with a soflam?
It‘s not just you. Hope this gets changed.
@@TheCadWoman so it is a thing then :(
@@mustdobetter6748 Yes. Unfortunately. 😕
@@TheCadWoman now that I think about, no one gets assists for vehicle kills. You can shove 3 rockets into a tank, but it someone else gets the last one in, you get nothing. Definitely needs addressing.
@@mustdobetter6748 You‘re right. Never noticed that as well.
As of now there is a red glance if you use the soflam
fun fact if you lock on a aircraft you can shot AGM missiles to it
i just wish i got some XP for using one. it costs me about 15k XP using this instead of something else. plus it wont lock onto some stuff for no reason. but it will spot enemies too
You get xp for spotting and assists. At least for infantry. I think that it‘s just a big that you don’t get assists for designated vehicles. Hopefully will get fixed soon.
maybe you cant spot due to range? can only lockon vehicles
Thank you
so this makes a dumb munition with no guidance system somehow lock on and home in on a target like magic
Exactly. Even works with the RPG.
Time for this to get updated because they changed it so the soflam is recon only now
Ah yes perfect my sit in the back and lob missiles at the enemy load out is almost complete:
Lis
Gun
Another gun
TGM
SOFLAM
Grenade
Robo doggo
I use and my noob cod teams just realize it
thanks
It's nice unless no one actually shoots rockets at locked vehicles.
They need to bring back to portable verison make the drone for casper also having the same ability his drone is worse then the eod bot it just flys... also paik... would be insanly good if she could use her ability and this also making it a one too punch for pesky campers in building and making maps that have a bad win rate on breakthrough more Playable for assaulting teams..
I use this all the time
I was watching this and wondered where Sundance's anti-armor grenade went, then I saw a post on reddit that says it's been removed.....smh
Yea things have changed a lot since this video was made.
@TheCadWoman True, but your videos are still informative though, thank you!
This is highly effective when you run it with a squad that run M5s. I wish you got xp when somebody gets a kill and not only the spotting xp
True. I hope this gets added with one of the next updates.
as long as i don't have a heli breathing down my neck i'm a happy soldier.
