Yea mine is coming next week! One reason I bought it for the HS feature that allows you to plug in the phone without charging it while you play games. The power comes directly from the charger so no battery heat and degradation like in laptops!
Why so many reviewers keep saying it's a niche phone and it costs too much? What? Hypocrisy. This device is the most well rounded package from all flagships. And it's camera system is capable of doing great pictures in every mode.
People are scared of change. They buy phones like they vote in the US, it's not about substance, it's about marketing and illusions, that's what people like. Samsung, apple, anything *third party is too niche, unusual, weird. Stick with what we know.
The reason why the brightness of the screen is dimmer than most other competitors is because of the OLED screen it uses. We all know that OLED is vulnerable to burn-in when displaying static images for too long. That risk is greatly increased when the screen emits really bright images which also generates heat, and therefore increase the risk for the images to burn-in to the screen. I agree that the screen is too dim to be used outdoors, but Sony's rationale is to sacrifice a bit of the usability to ensure the longevity of the screen. With dimmer screen, less heat is generated to the screen which significantly reduces the risk of getting burn-in. Most people probably never used their phones long enough for burn-ins to actually occur. (if people have 1 year contracts with carriers, they tend to replace new phones and get a new contract every year anyway). Sony users tend to use the phones for 4+ years. And it won't help if the screen has burn-ins 2 years into having it. And if usability in broad daylight is the sacrifice we all have to make to ensure we can use the phone for half a decade at least. Then I suppose it's an acceptable trade off. Unless you really really need to use phones outdoors very often.
Hi John, i dont know if this the only reason, it might also be that with that many more pixels the screen is just unable to ouput more light....also it might also be to reduce battery consumption
@@JoeGillian0 That's unlikely, Sony has been producing 4K displays in smartphone since 2015 with the Z5 Premium, and the screen is as bright as any other phone. But it has a regular LED screen, so it's never prone to any burn-in issue. And that phone actually has a larger PPI density than the 1 II due to it's smaller size, and more resolution with 2160x3840. But because it's an LED screen, the backlight is separate and can make it as bright as they possible can or not. OLED however, doesn't have backlight since the light comes out of the pixel itself. I may be wrong, but I think the 1 II is using a panel supplied by Samsung. So technically, either Samsung has a limit on how bright their panels can be (which is unlikely since the S20 has a brighter screen anyway), or that Sony limits the brightness on the firmware level to ensure its longevity. Reducing battery consumption is relative, though. That's why you have brightness settings integrated, if you want to save battery, just reduce the brightness. But there's always an option to increase it when needed. Minimising burn-in is the only reason I can think of, though if they do limit the screen brightness on the firmware level if it's not due to the limitations of the panel itself.
Here's the thing about 5G. 45 out of 57 countries around the world that is rolling out 5G, is using the n78 3.5 GHz band. That's the 5G network that 78% of the world use at the moment. This includes Japan, UK, and most of Europe that makes up the majority of the Sony Xperia market share. The US, only rolls out 2 subtypes of Sub-6 GHz: the n41 and the n71. The n71 is unique. Means only the US uses the n71 band. Apart from the US, only 4 countries in the world uses the n41 band. 2 of which, also implements the n78 band as well. So technically, only the US and 2 other countries in the world that uses n41 exclusively. So looking at that perspective, it's easy to see the reason why the 5G isn't available in the US for the Xperia 1 II, I don't see a reason why Sony would add an extra receiver in the device throughout every single unit, just to use a 5G band that only 3 countries use, rendering the rest of us having to pay the increase price for a receiver that will never be used. Not to mention the mmWave 5G is currently at the very early stages and the high frequency renders the signal to be impractical to be used as a mobile device, since the range is so short you need to stand right under the transmitter with a clear line of sight to fully utilise the full potential of mmWave 5G. You sit in a bench somewhere and the transmitter is blocked by a tree, you'll lose your 5G signal.

If they shrink the screen down to a regular aspect ratio and 6ish inches, I'd buy it. Maybe change to FHD display to cut costs. Everything else is perfect
What do you consider to be a regular aspect ratio? 4k tv is 16:9, pixel 4 is 19:9, iphone pro max is 19.5:9, galaxy s20 ultra is 20:9, xperia 1m2 is 21:9 and cinema is 21:9.

Also, it produces a 90hz equivalent refresh rate in the highest resolution mode in the phone without the need to reduce the resolution as competitors did!!!
whats with 24 fps ?
$1200 device is pointless. It does not give a profit...
The real profit is made when Apple, etc. see how good the camera hardware is and decide to put them in their latest devices. For Sony, phones are a loss leader and just a showcase of their hardware tech. But this is my next phone.
@@kennethgibbs1001 All these things do not cost $1000 and over 🤬
@@Romgenas ohhh ok...
but Samsung, Apple smartphones worth $1500....???!!🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
If it's pointless, then the same can be said about any other flagship.
Some really weird frame drops or movement artifacts just before 44 second mark. Appreciate the 4K, but maybe your camera or workflow isn't up to the task. Could be a TH-cam thing as well but this is the first time I ever seen such a thing on TH-cam. Shows up both on my 4K TV and iPad at 1080p. But hey, it's in focus now. 👍
I want to purchase your phone. Is here any chance?
You can adjust the side sense touch areas in the settings. And other phones may have the extra system memory to run their bloated skins?
Came for the review; stayed for the serious shade at the U.S. Sun... lol
Does it have wireless charging? Does it have tvout?
Yes wireless charging. Tvout for the Pro version coming out soon
I pre-ordered this phone but I'm wondering the call quality and how good it works with att not sure if I should cancel has anybody tested it on att?
You didn't show or mentioned the photo and cinema pro app. The strongest quality and points of this awesome phone. That's what Sony is all about and focusing on. plus you didn't mentioned the autofocus. No any competitor has this kind of function available. Only Sony does.
Will this be on any U.S.A carriers?
Its compatible with US carriers but it won't be marketed by them. You'll have to buy it unlocked from BestBuy, B&H ect.
what's wrong with the camera footage?
Does the phone have Volte & Wifi Calling. Please advise
No WiFi calling support. Tested on Verizon and T-mobile
99% if phones are similar..Sony is premium company not cheap Chinese, they won't make the phone cheaper
@@kennethgibbs1001 No idea, anything that's not as tall I guess. I used to own a Z3 and then a Z3 Compact and I still consider it the best phone I ever owned. I would buy another Sony in a heartbeat but I just can't stomach the 21:9.
@@The-Heart-Will-Testify Yeah sure but this phone doesn't appeal to the mass market with the 21:9 screen. Keep the same everything, change the aspect ratio and they have a phone that will sell. Like they mentioned in the video, 4k in a smartphone is overkill, 1080p is fine and cheaper so a lot more people can afford it. 1080p90hz for the same price would also be a good option.
That's why Sony has the Xperia 10 ii.
I still don't understand the no 5G!!!!😥 Really want this phone!
Won't be available in Australia.
XPERIA... Another One... Named by, we the best!
I couldn't live with less than 4k but I preordered this ~647ppi downgrade from my current +800ppi Xperia™ XZ Premium using a similar sidemounted fingerprint scanner which is the only other thing that's even more important for me to be honest justifying the upgrade to catch up to speed literally CPU wise lol
If Canada gets the non 5g model as well that will really suck. On my V60 , whenever I'm on data I get between 500 and 600 Mbps on my mid 6 data. I'm not sure how well mm wave is set up but I'm not about to give up the speed I have now.
It must be nice to get high internet speeds without selling your first born.
Is there something wrong with the frame rate ??
rawnak no
Sony launch this phone in India?
What's with the weird shutter speed on the a roll
What will be coming sony in india
Not a fan. Those additions make it far too expensive with things I won't even care for. Like those people that buy the S Samsung at the start of the year and then the Note later.
They have no use for the S pen just running for that new cool device. I'm not one of those people.
oh yeah finger print power button , no problems there lol
What's with many tech youtubers recently, kpop video is shown in many reviews. P.S - I too am a kpop fan.
Try listening to jpop singers. They'll blow your mind.
good review
American networks use differnet 5g bands and that means different phone required for each network and sony doesn't like carrier bloat.
Looking forward to mine next week!!! 👍 😁
Any devices with the exact aspect ratio?
Most of them close but no. Sony is the only smart phone with this aspect ratio. Rather, sony is the first one to achieve it.
Motorola, to be fair the difference between this AR and the one on the S20 is minimal
@@skiran69 back in the days there was LG Chocolate.
@@peterdurum434 this is not the first 21:9 phone of sony you know?
@@peterdurum434 patent belongs to Sony.
Kenapa ya Review 1 ii dari Indo sama luar beda banget rasanya. Kayak powerfull dari chanel luar hwkhw
2020 is the wtf year so I buyed this phone
SONY simply master camera Phone..
Best phone for Sotarks
Still waiting for amazon to get off their fucking ass and ship my god damn pre-order. I desperately need a new phone, both in the fact that im cripple and my current phone is literally dying.... leave it to amazon to wait to ship pre-orders when the whole fucking point is to get the product as fast as possible.
I wish they had put a camera mount hole on the phone or design a case with this fitted. That would have been an amazing addition. Being visually impaired all these reviews are making me nervous as I need a bright screen. Wish Sony would up this a bit in their software update.
Price is definitely the main problem !!
Not for me
5G cons anyone know. Everybody talking about link rates for online streaming high ultra videos games and much more. But what's the cons and cons to human beings??why nobody talks about that.
6:49 We know what you wanted to say ;)
Love the video tho!
it's not 4k AMOLED...it's 4k OLED
Are creators only the persons that shoot photo or videos........choose your words wisely....
For me, there isn't anything this phone does that the Pixel 4 XL doesn't do better. For $400 cheaper.
Better display, speakers, better ram management, better at gaming, better battery, video recording and better built quality by far...what does the pixel do better? Better portraits? Lol, overall its a better phone than what Google has ever built...more powerful and more
This man misses his Chinese roots.
Hey look. A $1300 phone with a front facing camera from 5 years ago. But hey, it's a pro camera, for vloggers 🙄
Because of that it won't sell. So don't let Sony make excuse. Bloggers would snap this up if they had done it right.
Who said this is for vloggers? They can use the main Alpha cameras if they want to vlog.
Lmao for vloggers?! Lolol and if you really are an actual professional vlogger, I don't think you'd be relying in the selfie camera. Lolol
Not an AMOLED Screen, Just OLED.
Yep, uses Samsung OLED display and not their AMOLED display.
@@kennethgibbs1001 Who told you that Sony uses Samsung oled?? More like using a LG Panels!
@@kennethgibbs1001 It's JDI, Japan display incorporation, and Sony partially own it.
@@kennethgibbs1001 JDI not samsung.
So what? AMOLED is just another marketing name for OLED screens.
Bias comments . phone this good , is everyone dream to own one . easy to hold bcos it is not too wide , screen is beautiful and it is 4k ( you said people dont nees 4k screen as if it is bad for sony to provide one , very funny ) . camera is nice and lots of others.
The most important is is sony , a japan 🇯🇵 product . not CCP product , which has
Paid lots of utubers to say good thing ..
I'm still on my Xiaomi Mi A2. I can't afford this cellphone. Why am I here?
1:22 does anyone know which band it is?
SONY! NOT EVERYTHING IS THE LONGER ,THE BETTER 🤦♂🤦♂
Almost every phone in the market nowadays is close to 21:9. What's wrong with it?
I'm still waiting for software update for my Xperia Z3
From a phone that was released in 2014?? Are you serious?

Choppy video
Sony has lagged behind in catching up to what customers want. Miss the real Sony days 😭
Yup, Sony Ericsson were better days...
Useless things like 120Hz that will use more power and cannot be used with 4K because of cpu limitations, the 45/65W that will ruin after few months or 12GB ram that will never be used and spend more power than 8GB?
Moisés Silva yeah because it's better to have a subpar phone for the same price as others that have these features. Makes sense.
you mean following trend? please no. i use google pixel 3 right now, it is great phone but really bored seems like everything are same. sony already good with their way especially for this mk2
@@silva_br1 4k is more useful than higher refresh rate anyway
