      Any idea why are phones (mostly) stuck with AAC audio? I mean, video can easly go over 100 Mb/s, and adding another 1.5 Mb/s for PCM shouldn't be that hard.

    • @AzakaSekai
      @AzakaSekai 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @xikarra They are. Even then, there's almost always no reason to *not* support uncompressed PCM. Post-production can use whatever possible that preserves the best fidelities for fixing audio.

They no longer include some of the accessories they used to, replacing them with a lot of (software) bells and whistles that are either practically useless or inefficient. As an owner of a7 III, I can confidently say if this phone's camera is anywhere close to their mirrorless quality, then it's fully worth the price tag and then some, considering it also comes with a 4k HDR display.
    I only carry my camera when I leave my house with the intention of shooting photos, and it's really sad when I I come across a photo worthy scene but all I have is my Note9 (which is still a beastly phone, but not for photos). I've been waiting for Sony to embrace their niche market since they went off the rails with XZ2, and they finally did it.

    Yet another crisp review from Mr. Mobile. I love how Sony has designed this phone almost as much as I hate the MSRP. However, there were a couple of missed opportunities in this review. While discussing "auto mode", photos from the Apple universe would have been nice for comparison. The other missed opportunity is with regards to battery management. The Xperia 1ii has battery-protection capability that transfers most of the charge to the device during heavy use while charging. This prevents generation of unnecessary heat and stress - promoting battery longevity. Hope these are included in the next review / for Xperia Pro. Love your reviews - kudos to you, Mr. Mobile!

      @@MarkS-tc7rr, I've got a few; been wireless since my S8, but I tend to stick with lower wattage ones as I usually leave my phones to charge for longer periods of time - you can get high wattage fast chargers but I'm not comfortable with the heat generated. Not very helpful, I know. But there are some things to consider: do you want one that is upright or flat (or will that depend on where your locating a charger - maybe you want more than one?..), if upright; do you want one that can still charge in landscape as well as portrait? If you're going for a fast charge make sure you pair it with a suitable high-wattage brick (not sure what the Sony one is, didn't even take the brick from the box yet! I did notice it was USB-C though), does it need to be portable? I have one charger that has 3 pads @ 1A each and two 2.4A USB's, but it works off an included adapter and the cable is very short - so, great for my desk but not great for somewhere there isn't power close to your desired location.

    • @CockatooDude
      @CockatooDude 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For all intents and purposes this is a compact phone. To understand why let's think about how screen size is measured: diagonally. Old phones had a much squarer aspect ratio of 16:9, whereas this one has a super wide aspect ratio of 21:9, what this means is that if you took an old 5 inch smartphone with large bezels and just filled the bezels in with screen like you see on modern phones, you'd basically end up with a 6 inch screen and a 19:9 or 20:9 aspect ratio. Now if you kept the phone the same width but made it slightly longer to get to 21:9 then now you have that 6.5 inch diagonal screen, but it's still the same width as the old 5 inch screen. For reference, I ran the numbers and a 5 inch 16:9 screen is 2.45 inches wide while this 6.5 inch 21.9 screen is 2.53 inches wide, only a tiny difference.

    • @baddriversofcolga

    • @troy5568
      @troy5568 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even without GCAM, there is an Auto HDR setting inside the Photo Pro app that produces exactly the same quality shots from the Pixels and iPhones.
      The main problem here is that people are too stubborn to mess a little bit with the settings, and only want everything to work perfectly right off the bat.
      Also in video, how could one miss out on the fact that even in the standard camera app, there is an HDR option that can be turned on in the viewfinder, which is intended for those HDR lovers who always want a processed look.
      If people would buy an Android phone, it is expected that they have a lot of idea about what they're doing, but if they simply want everything to be controlled by the phone, then they might as well just get an iPhone, as there's nothing better than that for those use cases.

    I'm not getting the mark ii but I did buy the first Xperia 1. While I am not a pro photographer I do really enjoy the color balance of the photos and I find the burst auto focus shooting to be so good that I feel it is basically essential for any phone I buy going forward.

    Would you rather pay 1200 or even more for a Samsung? It's stupid watching people complain about the price of this masterpiece of a phone!

    Sony Ericsson made the best camera phones in the early 2000’s.

    Hey Michael, I hope you do like a small review after the update comes out because it may include night mode and eye AF for the ultrawide, and that ultrawide has the same sensor as all the pixel phones main camera the IMX363. Another thing I wanted to say is the photo pro app has DRO and HDR and they both help fix the problems you mentioned with the camera and the slow motion feature was removed unfortunately because the Sony engineers got feedback that it was too short. Lastly thank you for your reviews they are one of the best reviews on TH-cam.

    I hate every single person that states this phone “costs too much.” Right, like you aren’t shilling upwards of $2000 for the new Apple and Samsung Phones every single year? Give me a break.
    When it comes to them, reviewers do not complain, last year the 11 Pro Max was charging $2600 for a bloody phone!!!! (In Australian currency.) That’s a robbery. Compared to that, Sony has more than those phones actually offer for less (yes, the camera and the 4K displays are actually big deals especially when competitors now have weaker cameras in comparison yet still charge way more for their phones which are outclassed by the Dolby Atmos/360 Reality Audio and 4K Display, Alpha Series Camera that this phone has.)
    I just don’t understand the complaints. Just because it’s Sony and their phones are not mainstream, they’re not allowed to charge more if they decide to actually provide more for their flagships. Wait till Iphone 12 releases and starts charging $3000 for their highest flagship model. Pathetic. These reviewers can whinge and whine about price but they’re complete hypocrites.

      I agree. Sony as a whole is a premium brand. They can demand high prices on certain products, especially with this much tech that involves the best of Sony (Playstation, Alpha, Bravia, audio, etc.) in a phone!

    Not even as a photographer, I would love to get this device as a gaming phone.. No notch, headphone jack, oled screen, front facing speaker

    This is the kind of review, that make one's hair at the back stand and tingle's elaborating the details in such a manner and fashion that strikes perfection and balance Well done.
