KTM in 2017 is moving away from the hard seat and even the new 390 has a wide supportive and soft seat which is going to be amazing for long rides. this is a dream, if I get to London, can you arrange a test ride for me?
TheMissendenFlyer haha. In reality I would probably buy a Ducati Supersport S. But again, it'd go in London in no time so I'll have to stick with my battered up 2009 Striple. Could be worse I suppose!
Recently bought a gen 2 SDR. Mine has the upgraded seat and it's an absolute dream. I've spent several hours on it at a time with no complaints at all. Love that you can adjust the suspension so easily. Stiffened mine up a bit and it's a phenomenal ride in the twisites.
Loved this review. I'm already 100% certain I'll be grabbing a 19 model as soon as this awful mess we're in has passed but every review helps. Thankfully I'm yet to find anything but very positive to glowing reviews. Love your channel and your style. Thanks for everything you do.
I took one of these for a 1hr blast whilst waiting to collect my GS from service and I was blown away, yes, by the performance but also, as TMF mentioned, how easy and civilised it was to ride at "normal" speeds. Purring along smoothly and, unflappable.
Nice review, thanks for taking the time! Waiting for a demo to get into my local dealer and I think I'll be chopping in an S1000R. Glad to hear you liked it as much as you did!
TheMissendenFlyer the S1000R is great, love it. Unfortunately my sole local Motorrad Dealer os terrible (had bike twice, broke or damaged twice) and I refuse to extend warranty and be stuck with them. I want cruise on my R but it's a £500 retrofit which is money towards a change! You'll enjoy the R no doubt.
I had a go on last year's model when i was at the NEC bike show a few months ago, I wasn't allowed to open it up to camera blurring speeds and the weather was turd, but after riding it, I'd love to have one too!
Gosh....as I've said before I really, really love your channel. No ego and just great straight forward motorcycle passion. Also and for the record I'm so ridiculously in need of purchasing this bike. #1 on my wish list. Fortunately no more room in the garage for another bike........yet :) You're video's also kinda make me wanna ride the U.K. a bit as well. Fascinated with the scenery. Either way.....great stuff man. If ever you're of the mind to ride here in Los Angeles please do get in touch. I believe I can show you some alternatively great rides :)
Well that's very kind of you Don - I have a loose plan to tour the US in a couple of years so I may well be in touch!! I have ridden in LA, did you see mt videos there?? >> th-cam.com/video/uAp5tluNKY8/w-d-xo.html
TheMissendenFlyer Crazy that I rode that exact route yesterday to the Rock Store. I mean exact, road for road, turn for turn (at least from Santa Monica outward). As you're probably already aware the Rock Store is not really intended to be a great food destination. Not really it's "thing". But any given Saturday or Sunday (especially during the summer months) it can be a ginormously fun meeting place for fellow riders. No exaggeration when I say hundreds of bikes of every imaginable make, shape and model. I've been goin' out there for years and honestly never thought of anything but perhaps a beer :) Anyway hope to see you out here again some day and keep up the vids!
I recently test rode the 2020 version. It has keyless ignition (I have already said too much about that ;) ) The looks don't really do it for me, but what an amazing bike. I haven't needed incontinence pants since I got off a 125 , and got on a Speed Twin, I needed them for this . After riding this, I think I need Post Traumatic Stress Counselling for it's warp factor 10 performance.
Awesome motorcycle and excellent review, but my fast and excellent handling modded 2010 675 Triumph STR already scares the crap out of me on public roads if I try to find the limits. A racetrack is needed for a bike like the Super Duke. I dunno, maybe motorcycles are getting TOO high tech and complicated with just more stuff to go wrong when it eventually f**ks up. Gawd, just servicing these things requires a second mortgage and hopefully the mechanic didn't screw something up. I'm starting to yearn for the days of a single cylinder and a carburetor!
I was in this area where you stopped showing bike yesterday, coming home from job @Berkhampsted. Next time visit road leading to Ashridge Golf Club and Park. Very nice and picturesque place. Duke would look epic in that background. It is nice ride too. Reminds me Richmond Park in smaller scale.
TheMissendenFlyer It would be awesome if you could do a short review of the KTM Duke 390 & RC 390 if it's available in your country! We, from India would like to hear your take on those 2 motorcycles 😃 The Duke 390 & RC 390 are quite famous here and your views on the bike would help us so much! Cheers!

Hi TMF Another great review. Went to the KTM Centre because of your reviews and RJ's. Really impressed with the bike, just sitting on one you can see the build quality and attention to detail. Only issue would be the quickshifter. According to another review it is all ready to go and the £333 is just to activate it - would definitely insist that was thrown in - then happy to spend the money on actual parts. Also, some dealers are offering the 2017 model with £500 deposit, balance on finance at 1.2% APR, either a loan or lease agreement - thats way better than BMW or Ducati. No wonder I counted 6 new Super Dukes all sold and ready to go - all of them black. But also have to factor in tracker - I would have one fitted the day I rode it away. If you used it to go into London you would have to park it in a secure underground car park, like Q-Park. Thanks again.
I had a test ride on the BMW S100R last weekend (Thanks to Cannon's), but missed the torque of the GS, found the S1000R not as engaging, do like large twins, like the side on view & frame of the KTM, but not the super-hero style headlight, prob book a test ride on a KTM soon. Might of gone for their adventure if it had shaft drive
Another great vid, and I do like it when you do the walk around with the phone, much better than the helmet cam.I have keyless ignition on my GS, not really sure why they bother, other than ,'because they can'.
I preordered this bike a month ago. Videos like this are getting me excited to pick it up. 2 more weeks until it arrives in Australia. Still deciding what exhaust to put on it
Great vid TMF, you are certainly testing lots of bikes lately! And why not!! Always hard to do the sound justice on the helmet mics, but it sounds great. I will definitely have to dabble with a twin again this year. V/L-twin, or something with a 270deg crank. Probably nothing this big or expensive. But what a lovely bike!
Another top review from the streets hemel 😊 and where you did the walk round is a place called Ashridge, if you carried straight on which is a nice road, be careful of the deer about 2 or 3 miles you come to the end of the road turn left, and carry straight on through Berkhampstead you will come straight back to hemel. A nice little route
Nice work sir. Following your review of the SDR, I had a test ride, and was thoroughly impressed and the deed was done, my 1199 Panigale was px'd for said beast. I'm afraid at 58, my days of out right sports bikes are over, and I'm in total agreement with you, there's no need for a sports bike with these user friendly animals available, plus it doesn't shake my fillings out......thanks.
To much bike for a novice like me i'm afraid. I like the Duke 790 but its a bit too new and there are probably bugs to be worked out. I would like to see what the r version has too offer as well
I really enjoy your videos , you are quite honest , I my self only have one bike and it's KTm 1290 gt and I wish I can have a few bikes like you do. I really want a Ducati panigale 1299s also saw the aprillia tuono and rsv4 they have so good additions. I am always two up but loving the sport bikes :/ god help me :) what would you say as a friend about 1299 s. I did ride it but can't remember if it was comfy then other sports bikes
What a BEAUTIFUL bike and a VERY WELL DONE review by yourself lad! Great video! I would LOVE to add one of these to my fleet some day but i fear for the cost of maintenance and reliability of the bike. I've read a LOT of issues with previous years of this bike so i am hesitant to make the purchase. I ride a 2015 ZX-6R at the moment and would love a sporty naked bike to add to my fleet. But i'm hesitant with the KTM brand.
Hi TMF I have been waiting for you to ride one of these. Is there any vibes with this bike and do they still have the fittings for the KTM luggage. I notice you permanently blurred the speedo at times ha ha. That's it I'm off to Fowlers I want one.
Didn't notice any vibes (but who cares if there was it's brill) and didn't look for pannier fixings (and who wants panniers on this bike, it's brill!).....as you noticed, I liked this one...a lot!
Interesting to see you ride one on the 17 plate. I was due to pick my black one up today but dealer phoned me 2 days ago to say it won't be ready due to KTM locking out all superduke models.
TheMissendenFlyer there is a fault with the screens. I was told by ktm that they are third party supplied and there has been software issues with a few
Replacement displays aren't available until the 13th March. I'm hoping (and praying) a swap around of display units will sort mine ready for the weekend. I'll know more tomorrow.
Yes I think I'm with you on that - how long until we get analogue displays on the TFT?? ...or being able to swap between the two...(which you can on the Triumph Street Triple)...
I consider my 2008 super duke a prancing black ant because of the soft oblong headlight... but the 1290 is a prancing fire ant because of the headlight.... I'm happy with my $6,000USD prancing black ant that gives me a taste of the fire ant because the start, throttle rev, and shut off sounds excatcly the same from all cameras... my 08 Sduke gets me 140 miles with 4 gallons mixed throttle.. what does the 1290 do?
I don't know in the real world Ryan, I think given you can't help bu ride it like a hooligan you'll be lucky to get 120 between fills (but that's just a guess!) - thanks for watching and for stopping by - TMF
You sir are not human!!! Us normal plebs would have stomped that 675 into the ground to prove our manliness. You fought that instinct!! Great review awesome bike!
I was thinking the same about colour displays on bikes, it must cost little by today standards considering most mobile phones have decent screens for £50 or less
Being a GT owner I am trying my utmost to ignore this bike, so tempting on the looks front but not quite swayed enough to lose my touring comfort of the GT but bloody tempting all the same. Great review as always, one of the few bike reviewers that i value.....thanks again.
Shaun Knight the DUKE R is more comfortable..I rode both 17 plates back to back..the R has a better seat and the GT has weird buffeting from the strange screen Imo...just doesn't have any pannier and rack options atm
I have the heated gel seat which is mega comfortable and the panniers are a big bonus for how I use it (regular mini weekend tours), and the tank range is quite a big difference too. Im not getting buffering from mine, getting the screen height is important - the move to the R would be many sacrifices for me just to gain the better looks but it does look damn good!!
How was the on off throttle....snatchy at all? Think you answered my previous question...if you could only get one bike...get this one? If you could not afford this one what would be your next choice? Would love to hear your impressions of the latest Speed Triple...I rode a 2016 Street Triple and the throttle was very snatchy btw...did not care for it. I am 6 feet with 30 inch inseam btw. I rode a 2014 Honda CB1000r that was very smooth all the way around. Same for 2016 BMW S1000r and S1000XR except for vibes at freeway speeds.
You are snatchy throttle obsessed! ;0) Yes if I could only have one then this may well be it. Check out my Speed Triple review for my thoughts on that one...cheers - TMF
Hey, how would you compare the engine to the Ducati 1200's? I've ridden the Multistrada and LOVED it, and the XDiavel. The motor was great, BUT they were too chuggy around 3000 rpm's. Do the KTM's cruise smoother down low, I'm use to an inline 4 and V4, I can run them down easily under 2k rpm's and they're smooth as butter. Love your reviews, kinda jealous you get to ride all these amazing bikes, keep up the great work!
Compared to the Ducati 1200's I've ridden (also the Diavel and MTS) yes, the KTM's ride much smoother low down.....but then again I haven't ridden the latest Ducati bikes......thanks for the kind words - all the best - TMF
Could you summarize your impressions in a comparison between this and the BMW S1000R? Just curious because I own the S1000R, but I'm still intrigued by this KTM too. As always - enjoy your reviews.
...as it happens I'm riding a brand new S1000R tomorrow morning - the review won't be uploaded for a while but I shall certainly be thinking of the SuperDukeR whilst riding it....stay tuned!
Excellent review. And good though the magazine reviews and track vids are, this and your other vids really do give a better impression of real use. And the SDR: I had been seriously thinking about that r1200r you recently reviewed - but maybe a bit too stolid. And a let down after my current s1000r. And since Hemel is fairly handy for me, MK based and frequently into London, sounds like a dealer is not a hurdle. Mmmm.
So there is that much difference? The S1000R has proven fine for general purpose use - acceptable on long trips and good in town. You note the SDR is also good in slow traffic - comparable?
Well in my opinion (and it is just my opinion) the Super Duke R was a much more exciting ride, just felt a bit more like a racehorse...it's difficult to explain - I think the SDR is livelier, lighter feeling, faster feeling, just more my cup of tea - the BMW is a great machine, but perhaps a bit lacking in character????
The S1000R is a great and modernised copy of the UJM - and as a one time cb900 and even xjr1300 owner like it quite a lot. But it is like rather than having a real soft spot for it, so to speak. And your note about the KTM feeling lighter - interesting as the bm isn't a hulk. I need to get a test ride on the SDR me thinks.
Is it de rigeur that ride by wire throttling is snatchy with current technology, I tried the yam tracer as a courtesy bike the other day and found it to be unbearably so on and off on the throttle? Also fuel gauge was full most of the day and then suddenly empty i.e. Useless. Another great ktm here the rub being with usual tangerine fugly looks. If I were going ugly I'd probably opt for the stratospherically good vfr1200f.
Good work yet again. Surely the good folk at On Yer Bike will let you compare the , in my eyes, better looking , sounding and finished, Ducati Monster 1200R or S and the Tuono 1100 back to back. That'd be a hour of a review day. Like to see that (be there) :-)
Mmmm, maybe, the good folks I know at On Yer Bike all work in the service department, and sadly they don't loan out the bikes.....I need to do some relationship building with a salesman....
Am loving this bike Mr M 😄 great review My question is about the Keyless system : I like to go away for weekends camping on the bike , now if you can appreciate while camping in my little tent, I want the bike close by, right outside the tent for security reasons , would some a little scroat be able to start the bike because I'm sleeping 5ft away from it ? I do lock it with a chain and front wheel disc lock as well but was just wondering ?
Saw a bike in London yesterday that made me stop in my tracks... MV Agusta Brutale 800 Dragster, absolutely stunning, you should check it out especially if you are considering this or the new street triple
Yes they are incredible looking - reports of the handling (and not to mention dealer support) slightly worry me though...would love a go on one, they look amazeballs....
Hi I think you do some great reviews and I watch them all. Do you think you can get your hands on a MT10 and compare it to the super duke 1290 R. Cheers.
I can wait get my 2020 KTM Super Duke R, never owed V-twin due to vibration issues now that pretty well gone. I've read it's been really refined and improved over 90% of the previous model. I have ZX-14 am keeping it for touring since it's totally done in carbon and turbocharged, how would you compare the two as stock of course. Great review 👍🇨🇦
If I was in your position I would seriously look at chopping the Pani and Street in on one, in fact I am in the process of doing something similar. Except changing a BM and Guzzi for an 1190 Adv, great bikes these KTMs
TheMissendenFlyer lol... I see you've taken grave offence to my comparison. There’s a slight similarity there! BTW, total topic change, have you seen the new diavel S? I know you showed some interest in these at one point - would definitely be one worth reviewing I reckon. That back wheel looks so damn cool - as close to a Batman bike as we'll ever get.
They are both amazingly awesome machines and I'd be happy with either - but if it was my money the MT-10SP just tips the balance for me because I love that 4 cylinder engine...but the KTM is incredible...
Maybe you could get a ram mount for your phone, clip onto the handlebars of these tester bikes, then you've always got a satnav of sorts. Enough to stop you getting really lost at least.
TheTypeRTheory I don't think he really goes far enough on these tests to really worry about it. What with his nav exp from flying, he's gotta be able to get back to the dealership after a quick spin.
I haven't ridden the Street yet, but I can't imagine it will be anywhere close to this for sheer power thrills.....not that that's necessarily a bad thing (can't wait to try the new streetie)....
Does this bike offer bluetooth connectivity for the phone? e.g answering calls etc. Another question how do you safely lock the steering with a keyless ride? does it lock by itself or do you manually put the key somewhere and lock the front?? excellent video btw i.ve watched the 43 min version as well. I'm two questions answered away from buying this. thanks
No you can't answer your phone using the bike As far as I'm aware. The keyless rides usually enable steering locking by holding the bars at full lock and then pressing and holding a button somewhere - not sure how the KTM does it but you won't need the key...
Definitely a nice bit of kit as you say, sounds Awesome, does this mean the T100 is but a distant thought? Interested in knowing what you think of the new Triumph Scrambler.
Watched your two reviews last year and when I was looking for a 50th Birthday present for myself earlier this year gave one a go! Wow what can I say blew me away and needless to say there is a beautiful black and orange 2019 model in the garage next to the old GS! Every time I wheel the thing out the garage and take it for a spin around the back lanes I have a massive grin which lasts for hours😀Just sitting on the thing makes you feel like your doing something illegal!
Does this mean you'll be able to get a 1290 SA S to play with in a couple of weeks too? :) You'll be getting yourself a KTM at this rate too. Any impressions regarding the semi-active suspension on the SA and GT versus the manual one on the SD R?
:) Impressions of the QS would be good too. Apparently the S/R will have upshift as standard and the QS+ option adds the d/s. I'm surpriused the SD R isn't the same way as the hardware is built in to all of them (SA S/R and SD R) from the factory apparently. I'm still unsure when my SA S is arriving, it's been a long wait since October. Mind you with the current weather it's maybe just as well it's a bit late. :)
Does make you wonder if a sub 100BHP bike is a better choice, enough power to have fun but without reaching warp speed in the blink of an eye. I'm very tempted by the little NC750X, seems a great little bike.
Great looking machine TMF as is the GT but at the risk of sounding like a broken record, in all honesty, how much of that throttle can you actually use in real world riding before you have to back off. I think the 177hp is just a numbers game to catch the headlines. No one will use all that power.
Oh yes I completely agree, far more than you could ever need but it is nice to know it's there and accelerating from 0-60mph is like engaging warp drive....I can't be trusted with things like this so my licence would be in serious jeopardy - which may be the thing that prevents me getting one....
What do you think about the 2017 super duke r vs. 2015 diavel carbon for commuting? I've been commuting to work on a diavel about 42 miles each way. It's been great for the commute and fun on the weekends...but the 2017 super duke r has got me thinking.
Is there a pop & crackle upon decelerating? I'm having trouble picking between this and the BMW S1000R and that's one of the things I do like about the S1000R's 4 cylinder coupled with Akrapovic.
Does anyone know why the super duke 1290 is the only ktm that has a different TFT display than the others? This one looks so basic compared to the on on the super adventure or hell even the 390 duke.
Given you've got a good relationship with the boys at KTM, any chance you could review the Duke 690 R? Personal reasons entirely - it's on my shortlist of "next bikes" :)
TheMissendenFlyer Hi TMF - no need for the 690R review any more - I've just bought a run-out Triumph Street Triple R! The dealer made me an offer I couldn't refuse as they clear their stock to make way for the 765 RS. It will be ready on Tuesday - to say I'm excited is a bit of an understatement!
+Dulf Nordensvärd Unfortunately I never got to ride the old bike for comparison purposes but I take your word for it - either way this is a very quick bike. Thanks for watching and for stopping by- TMG
We just test rode this recently (the newer version ofc) and the 690 smc, obviously both very different bikes but OMG both are awesome. The 1290 is an absolute monster and the smc is just so much fun! personally I preferred the smc but maybe cos it reminds me on my teenage years and my kmx 125R, my fella liked the 1290 though. #teamlane
1. Think it would be fine, suspect it's designed for exactly that use-case... 2. Nope probably not - but one of those stick on plastic jobbies might be a good idea. 3. Don't honestly know, sorry :0( You too - cheers......
You are the king of reviews my friend, I actually went out and purchased the KTM after watching your review.Thank you for your honesty mate.
Wow, I hope you mentioned my name to the salesman?? ;0)
KTM in 2017 is moving away from the hard seat and even the new 390 has a wide supportive and soft seat which is going to be amazing for long rides. this is a dream, if I get to London, can you arrange a test ride for me?
Yeah no problem...except you'll have to travel out to Hemel Hempstead to do it (not far).....
I'd buy one tomorrow if it wouldn't get stolen the first day I parked in London.
Yes, very good point....I'd be tempted to steal it from you!!
TheMissendenFlyer haha. In reality I would probably buy a Ducati Supersport S. But again, it'd go in London in no time so I'll have to stick with my battered up 2009 Striple. Could be worse I suppose!
Ride it like you stole it................
Would always buy a tracker with something like this. Cops love a nice bike with a tracker...leads them to lots of other stolen bikes :-)
MUNRO MUSIC sad but true.. I never park in Central London for that very reason. The police really need to do more.

My pleasure! Glad you found my review of interest!
I ordered a 2017 KTM SDR 1290 on Valentines day! Should arrive mid March...
Lucky man!
I took one of these for a 1hr blast whilst waiting to collect my GS from service and I was blown away, yes, by the performance but also, as TMF mentioned, how easy and civilised it was to ride at "normal" speeds. Purring along smoothly and, unflappable.
The mirrors are shaped like coffins... cool
Nice review, thanks for taking the time! Waiting for a demo to get into my local dealer and I think I'll be chopping in an S1000R. Glad to hear you liked it as much as you did!
+SinChase Really? Not impressed with the BMW then? I'm riding the new one tomorrow as it happens :0)

OMG the size of your licence plate in the UK is crazy
Tell me about it!

Loving your work TMF, great review, better than most "pro" channels
Very kind of you to say so....
Love from india! One hell of a reviewer you! Keep up the good work! Absolute treat!
Isn't the internet great! Unbelievable that I have viewers in India - thank you so much for watching Gopinath - all the best - TMF

Thanks again.
Glad you liked it - I hope you mentioned me to the KTM boys in Hemel ;0)
I did actually :-)
Nice bunch of blokes....particularly if you can secure a discount for yourself :-))
Great video, thanks for your views on the KTM. One problem though the speedo is blurry when you're on the long straights...... Hmmmmm
I think you'll like the Super Duke R when you ride it Vince, I challenge anyone not too!
Another great vid, and I do like it when you do the walk around with the phone, much better than the helmet cam.I have keyless ignition on my GS, not really sure why they bother, other than ,'because they can'.
Yeah that was my thinking - plus if you need keys for the panniers it all gets a bit silly - I agree with your reasoning!
I preordered this bike a month ago. Videos like this are getting me excited to pick it up. 2 more weeks until it arrives in Australia.
Still deciding what exhaust to put on it
You're going to love it! Enjoy (and be careful!)
Yeah a proper hooligans bike :0)
Another top review from the streets hemel 😊 and where you did the walk round is a place called Ashridge, if you carried straight on which is a nice road, be careful of the deer about 2 or 3 miles you come to the end of the road turn left, and carry straight on through Berkhampstead you will come straight back to hemel. A nice little route
Thanks for that Keith - maybe that'll be my route next time then!
yet another cracking review, good work tmf 🖒
Very kind, thank you Craig....
I love this bike! You make some of the best reviews
Thank you Steven - I loved it too!
Great stuff Graham - I shall be getting one on long term loan soon, looking forward to getting properly acquainted with her...
As always a great review, I'm not really a fan of the KTM's, but this looks the business.
We seem to be living in a golden age of bikes at the moment.
We sure are Marc, we sure are...
To much bike for a novice like me i'm afraid. I like the Duke 790 but its a bit too new and there are probably bugs to be worked out. I would like to see what the r version has too offer as well
Aprillia Tuono 1100 RR up thier game as well! There is a tft display and blipper, cruise control and V4 :)
Would love to have a bash at one of those one day....cheers for watching - TMF
I really enjoy your videos , you are quite honest , I my self only have one bike and it's KTm 1290 gt and I wish I can have a few bikes like you do. I really want a Ducati panigale 1299s also saw the aprillia tuono and rsv4 they have so good additions. I am always two up but loving the sport bikes :/ god help me :) what would you say as a friend about 1299 s. I did ride it but can't remember if it was comfy then other sports bikes
Did you see my review of the 1299? Check it out.....
Thank you for the kind words - appreciated!
Really? I wonder what that's all about.....??
Mine was delivered end of jan and it seems it's us earlier adopters had the issue, with the display.
DeadHead just in time for summer! hope it all goes well
thinking bout one these to upgrade my rc390! not to sure if it be way to much or i should go for the 790 2018 one
Best to try them both - I'm sure you'd be happy with either...quite a step from the RC390!
thats it mate! been riding for 8 years now! i just love the quality and the look of the ktms with couple powerparts they just looks so beautiful!
I much prefer the aesthetic of an analogue display, but can appreciate the versatility of the TFT.
Yes I think I'm with you on that - how long until we get analogue displays on the TFT?? ...or being able to swap between the two...(which you can on the Triumph Street Triple)...
Fair to say you liked this bike TMF. The styling does look amazing, great review as always.
Thank you Daren.....
nice review there mate just love this bike!
Thanks Phantom...and I agree, this one definitely fits the "awesome" category....
loved it, what is the top speed of it
I don't actually know - fast! :0)
160 mph, I think. Though not sure how you hang on without a screen.
I don't know in the real world Ryan, I think given you can't help bu ride it like a hooligan you'll be lucky to get 120 between fills (but that's just a guess!) - thanks for watching and for stopping by - TMF
wow haha even worse
You sir are not human!!! Us normal plebs would have stomped that 675 into the ground to prove our manliness. You fought that instinct!! Great review awesome bike!
I was thinking the same about colour displays on bikes, it must cost little by today standards considering most mobile phones have decent screens for £50 or less
+Bikers Quest Exactly!
Im not getting buffering from mine, getting the screen height is important - the move to the R would be many sacrifices for me just to gain the better looks but it does look damn good!!
yeah I have similar problems with my TFT screen going blurry at high speed as well must be a ktm thing
Bummer eh?
TheMissendenFlyer Yes, guess I am...smooth gear box and clutch obsessed too! Thanks.
P.S. Was your Speed Triple review of the latest one which I believe was re engineered?
Can test ride Ducati monster 1200s please
If only I had one to ride!
Another great review KTM looks and sounds great
+John Hunter Sure does, it rides even better! Cheers John....TMF
Mmmm.
I rode the S1000R this week....yours will have been great training for the mighty Super Duke R...on another level again IMO...
I need to get a test ride on the SDR me thinks.
...you really do...(don't get me wrong the BMW is a fab bike...just I think the SDR is much err, "fabber")...
Actually I rather like the look of the VFR1200F......I know I'm in a minority though....and no, not all "ride by wire" throttles are snatchy...
Am loving this bike Mr M 😄 great review
My question is about the Keyless system :
I like to go away for weekends camping on the bike , now if you can appreciate while camping in my little tent, I want the bike close by, right outside the tent for security reasons , would some a little scroat be able to start the bike because I'm sleeping 5ft away from it ?
I do lock it with a chain and front wheel disc lock as well but was just wondering ?
Yes said scrote probably could! Not a fan of keyless myself.....
Just wrap the key in some foil
Saw a bike in London yesterday that made me stop in my tracks... MV Agusta Brutale 800 Dragster, absolutely stunning, you should check it out especially if you are considering this or the new street triple
Yes they are incredible looking - reports of the handling (and not to mention dealer support) slightly worry me though...would love a go on one, they look amazeballs....
Yeah the first thing I thought of was your MCTN episode on the dealership finance company still legally owning the bikes... :-/
Whats more fun to ride this or the 899
899 for me
Wooooow sounds great and is there any quickshifter build in this model??
Yes there is but you have to pay extra to have it "activated" - I think it's just a software change!
How do you like this compared to the Vitpilen?
I waaaaaay prefer this....
Hi I think you do some great reviews and I watch them all. Do you think you can get your hands on a MT10 and compare it to the super duke 1290 R. Cheers.
I'm working on that as we speak! Thanks for the kind words and for watching - all the best - TMF
Thanks for watching and for stopping by Ross!
do you remember if this factory Akrap had removable dB killer?
'fraid not...
If I was in your position I would seriously look at chopping the Pani and Street in on one, in fact I am in the process of doing something similar. Except changing a BM and Guzzi for an 1190 Adv, great bikes these KTMs
I think that final comment may have been a bit rash - I love my Panigale....and the Streetie...the answer is to have one as well ;0)
at around the 14 minute mark is that moss or lichen in the centre line of the lane?
+paulaus Probably moss I would imagine....
Very nice. Bit reminiscent of a Kwak Z1000. Love these new style of screens. Nice n bright.
What!!! Take that back immediately!!! Kwak Z1000...whatever next!!! ;0)
Mad Max fan one would think.
IF you want to by on, the 1290 r or the MT10 sp?
They are both amazingly awesome machines and I'd be happy with either - but if it was my money the MT-10SP just tips the balance for me because I love that 4 cylinder engine...but the KTM is incredible...
Maybe you could get a ram mount for your phone, clip onto the handlebars of these tester bikes, then you've always got a satnav of sorts. Enough to stop you getting really lost at least.
TheTypeRTheory I don't think he really goes far enough on these tests to really worry about it. What with his nav exp from flying, he's gotta be able to get back to the dealership after a quick spin.
...I wish I shared your confidence!!!
Right. I'm now off to look at orange bikes tomorrow on my day off!
Good man!
Looks an absolute beast making second guess my choice of new street RS but then again it is over 4K more
I haven't ridden the Street yet, but I can't imagine it will be anywhere close to this for sheer power thrills.....not that that's necessarily a bad thing (can't wait to try the new streetie)....
The first 17 plate i have seen,good review,i think he likes it,now for the 2017 1290s adventure.
Thanks Kevin....
Definitely a nice bit of kit as you say, sounds Awesome, does this mean the T100 is but a distant thought? Interested in knowing what you think of the new Triumph Scrambler.
No I loved the T100 but for different reasons...looking forward to riding a scrambler ASAP!
TMF, every time you do a review I want a new bike :)
That makes two of us!
Hahahah !!
I bought a bike because of this man 😅😅
...really nice review & ride along, definitely inspiring!
Thank you very much :0)
As always an awesome review.
How does it compare to the S1000R? Thank you
I'm riding the S1000R today as it happens....so I'll let you know (video to follow in due course)....
TheMissendenFlyer the s1000r is insane
Watched your two reviews last year and when I was looking for a 50th Birthday present for myself earlier this year gave one a go! Wow what can I say blew me away and needless to say there is a beautiful black and orange 2019 model in the garage next to the old GS! Every time I wheel the thing out the garage and take it for a spin around the back lanes I have a massive grin which lasts for hours😀Just sitting on the thing makes you feel like your doing something illegal!
does it over heat in heavy traffic
Not that I noticed, no...
Great video and honest feedback. Appreciate it
Cheers Abhinav - great to have you along!
Does this mean you'll be able to get a 1290 SA S to play with in a couple of weeks too? :)
You'll be getting yourself a KTM at this rate too.
Any impressions regarding the semi-active suspension on the SA and GT versus the manual one on the SD R?
I hope so :0)
:) Impressions of the QS would be good too.
I'm glad you're enjoying the KTM's.
Cheers :0)
I'm in the market for a new sports bike & this has made me want to get rid of the gixxer and buy one of these!!
If you have the cash you won't be disappointed I can promise you! Best bike I've ridden this year.....
Lovely bike but how long would a driving license last with that sort of performance available..........
Mine, not very, it's one of the reasons I only get my Panigale out on special occasions....I can't trust myself!
Does make you wonder if a sub 100BHP bike is a better choice, enough power to have fun but without reaching warp speed in the blink of an eye. I'm very tempted by the little NC750X, seems a great little bike.
There is that - one of the reasons I loved the Triumph T100 so much....
How about a comparison against a s1000r?
The Ktm looks very nice tho.
Funnily enough I rode the S1000R this morning - stay tuned for the video soon!
TheMissendenFlyer I'll look forward to that 😀
Nice, looking forward to how you compare with S1000. Big question would you swap the 899 for one ?
Tough one - I think not...but it's close!
+TheMissendenFlyer high praise for the 899 indeed
Oh yeah, it's an amazing machine too...a weaponised rocketship....
Twice the price of the 690 Duke here in the US. Is it truly twice the bike?
Err, yes, I think it probably is!
Thank You.
TMF, would you/ are you going to trade any of the bikes you own for one of these?
No plans at the moment....but who knows in the future, certainly this would be near the top of the wish list.
that is an awesome looking bike
as always great review 👍
cheers Tom
Cheers Tom...
Well done on your video.... you're getting me excited
Great stuff - thanks Eden...
Suddenly the new street triple doesn't look so shiny😕
Well I haven't ridden one yet so the Jury is out, but it's going to have to be spectacular to get near the fun quotient of this bad boy!
What do you think about the 2017 super duke r vs. 2015 diavel carbon for commuting? I've been commuting to work on a diavel about 42 miles each way. It's been great for the commute and fun on the weekends...but the 2017 super duke r has got me thinking.
+furnimaker I imagine the Super Duke would be brilliant...
That's what I was afraid of! Thanks for the excellent video...even if it does end up costing me $18k lol
Lots more to come on the SDR in the next few weeks.....stay tuned!
I went and test rode one today! the dealer is having a hard time keeping them in stock, but I'm next in line when they get one in. :)
Is there a pop & crackle upon decelerating? I'm having trouble picking between this and the BMW S1000R and that's one of the things I do like about the S1000R's 4 cylinder coupled with Akrapovic.
Didn't notice it popping and crackling although it did sound good - I'm riding the brand new S1000R tomorrow - can't wait :0)
I rode this same bike from the KTM Centre and I eco your same words awesome bike! I gotta get one!
A good review, I fear my Sprint will be replaced by a super naked at some point this year.
+Bucks Biker Its the modern way! ....but can I have a go on your Sprint before you get rid? ;0)
+TheMissendenFlyer yeah no problem, let me know. Plan to go on a weekend away on it early May and then look at the new MT09 or used Tuono.
Great looking bike, not sure about the tail doesn't look right. No good for me I have pillion to consider.Another quality review.Cheers
Thank you Alan...
would you swap your STR for this?
Yes - without a doubt....
Why would you choose this over the GT?
It looks meaner, it feels faster??? Those would be my reasons (sad I know)....
It does look great
Does anyone know why the super duke 1290 is the only ktm that has a different TFT display than the others? This one looks so basic compared to the on on the super adventure or hell even the 390 duke.
Dunno I'm afraid....
Given you've got a good relationship with the boys at KTM, any chance you could review the Duke 690 R? Personal reasons entirely - it's on my shortlist of "next bikes" :)
Yeah I'd love too - I'll put a word in!
Do you twist it 100% ? Is fo that bike feels alot slower than previous bike.
+Dulf Nordensvärd Unfortunately I never got to ride the old bike for comparison purposes but I take your word for it - either way this is a very quick bike. Thanks for watching and for stopping by- TMG
You're great to listen to. Love the accent. (envy as hell)
Blimey thanks, I never even knew I had an accent!
From a swedish perspective you do lol!
Well I never, I wonder what it sounds like....!
is there a 1290 supermoto ?
We just test rode this recently (the newer version ofc) and the 690 smc, obviously both very different bikes but OMG both are awesome. The 1290 is an absolute monster and the smc is just so much fun! personally I preferred the smc but maybe cos it reminds me on my teenage years and my kmx 125R, my fella liked the 1290 though. #teamlane
1. how do you think this screen is gonna be in direct sun?
2. would you put some sort of screen on it?
3. was dB killer in?
:) Ride Safe
1. Think it would be fine, suspect it's designed for exactly that use-case...
2. Nope probably not - but one of those stick on plastic jobbies might be a good idea.
3. Don't honestly know, sorry :0(
You too - cheers......
