I still own a mk1 superduke 990 that I bought in 2005, after getting the ecu remapped @ BSD and suspension rebuilt @ MCT I will never sell it. It still looks like a new bike and has taken me all over the U.K. and Europe
I own a V4S Streetfighter and got to borrow a 2020 Super Duke for a week so rode them back to back often. They are very similar bikes in many ways but I now wish I had bought the KTM. The Ducati is the “better” motorcycle when you ride them hard - it simply goes faster, turns better, stops better and arguably looks better. The V4’s “wings” make if vastly more stable at speed - if you long for the track you want the Duc. But as a daily driver the Super Duke just has the better engine - it gives you delicious power instantly and everywhere. The V4S, retuned though it is, remains a very “top of the rev range” sport bike engine. This translates to the Super Duke feeling like a super bike even when at in town speeds. The V4S on the other hand remains very “civilized” until you get it north of 9000 rpm, and by then you’re already punching above 100 mph. KTM also gives you practical features like cruise control and a gas gauge, making it easier to live with. I know KTM reliability is often questioned, but my V4S has spent 7 weeks in service during the first 6 months of ownership due to clutch problems. If I could go back I’d save myself 5 grand and have the better road bike. But then that’s me. Love your reviews and can’t wait to hear what you think comparing the two. Ride safe y’all.

Good review as always. I’ve ridden all the current “supernakeds” and owned a Tuono V4 Factory (2019), they are awesome and a giggle to ride, I only had mine for 8 months, despite what the reviewers say they are rich peoples toys, not really everyday practical, pretty uncomfortable, bugger to keep clean, brutal fuel consumption, no storage options, poor range, I really struggle to see the point of the current crop of bikes that hit jail speed in second and can only be used to their potential on track by a really talented rider. What are they for ? I don’t mind admitting that my Tuono was too much and I find my Street Triple RS better in every respect on road and track for a mere mortal
Ive been waiting for this, so thanks very much. Disappointing to hear about the sound of the Akrapovic Slip on exhaust as they are almost £1200... Im having the full Evo system fitted in a couple of weeks. The pegs are adjustable and i noticed on the bike they were in the higher position. Great video and thanks very much.
I have the Akra fitted since I got it for free and the can will "sing" a little bit more with time...not to be compared with the Evo of course but since its illegal in my country I must say that it is a good but expensive compromise for those who live in a country with a lot of noise restrictions.

I purchased one last year and I really do think it is a stand out bike. It ticks so many box’s. You could tour on one and you can even get KTM proper panniers for it. It’s great for a Sunday blast and will keep up with everything and with the 140nm torque you will embarrass Super-bikes with the exceleration. Braking is off the planet as is the quick shift. I got the heated grips at £175 and when you compare to Kwak ZH2 at £375 for heated grips and heated gloves at £250 etc it’s not a bad deal. Only gripe is that the performance pack has to be purchased to pull wheelies but you can live with that and I will purchase in the summer which by then will give me ample tiMe on the bike, which I think is a good thing for me and most as it is a beast lol. Happy new year. I am glad you keep stuff back to continue entertaining the troops through lockdown. A very nice bike but I still fancy the 390 or whatever the new version is Cheers TMF a great first impression review it looks lovely
I went from a 790 to the 2020 KTM 1290r it was the SDR I was waiting for. I’ve had it for 4 months and enraptured every ride. I also have the MotoGP blue and orange, you can set the screen to be permanently orange.
That looks such a well finished bike, beautiful. Lovely to see nice weather and scenery too ! Performance appears to be massive, just a bit intimidating for me and I suspect the type that eggs you on 😱. Keep ‘em coming........
That is the problem with these types of bike Andrew, unless you have extreme self control (I don't) you are tempted to go everywhere at silly speeds....that said the bike is very easy to ride, far from intimidating...
I have one, the best bike I've ever owned (and first from brand new), my first foray into the world of V twin juicy torque!!!, busy adding a smattering of carbon fibre bits , until spring arrives and riding resumes.👍👍🇬🇧
It's rather good to hear you pronounce Akropovic as "A kra PO vic", because I did it for years. When I got my new KTM Duke 890R last June with the optional exhaust, I decided I should investigate the name of this Romanian company. Turns out, best I can determine, it's pronounced "A KRAP o vich", which sadly has other connotations in English! 😂
On my second Super Duke. The torque snd horsepower all below 9500 rpm. More horsepower and torque than the Streetfighter V4 up til 9500 rpm. Streetfighter is track rpm. Super Duke street rpm.
Nice idea to give a close up on the controls, reviewer's often talk about them but until you get a close up it's sometimes difficult to understand the point. Thanks TMF
after I demoed one back in September I am going to purchase the black one in May. Upgrading from my street triple RS. That I use for my daily commute. Looking forward to seeing what you run down video says about it. I’m hoping it’s gonna be a good commuter/weekend toy
Not been keen on the KTM look, but really like that. The blue and Orange is cool. Love the routing of the exhaust..just looks purposeful. There looks to be some baffles in the exhaust, which I dare say could be persuaded to come out should an owner want. Looking out the window on a dreary January day...lets hope we get weather like that this year and the freedom to ride the roads! Very interested to hear the longer term review!
The purpose of those exhaust bends and bulges are for the EPA, DOT, and AQMD (Air Quality Management District), not for fluid dynamics or power. Unfortunately, if you take them out, you still have a bunch of tuning to do.
Another great review and the perfect tonic on a wet, windy tier 4 Monday morning. To be honest, I don't really get the super naked genre. More power then you need for road use, no wind or weather protection and very limited everyday practicality. Most of the genre are pretty ugly to look at as well, although I must admit that this one looks pretty good compared to most super naked bikes (and most KTM's).
As always, high quality informative and unbiased review! Keep raising the bar TMF 👍🏾 Curious about your first ride comparison against the MT10SP & Aprilia Tuono you last tested...grin factor?
All much on a par to a normal road rider like me really Kenny (I'm not a track day fan or wheelie merchant as you know) - pick the one you like the look of most and enjoy! Can't go wrong with any of those three.....
Great vid & what a gorgeous brute.....the KTM I mean lol. Really like it & it's my favourite supernaked by a mile. Not sure I could consistently be a good boy on it though.
You’re so funny mate... the first thing needs doing is a new can, reflash of the ecu and last, needs to be placed in the garage for the bmw s1000 rr.... and definitely need to blur out that tft so the old bill doesn’t give you any Shyte!
'Uses the engine as a stressed member, a bit like things like the Panigale do' - The Yamaha MT-07 and KTM Duke 790 also use the engine as a stressed member meaning riders at the more affordable end of the market may benefit from such a feature.
I'm like 5'11"-6' and I'm on my tippy toes too. But thats okay, every time I come to a stop I lean to the left a little so I can just plant my left foot and keep my right foot on the rear brake
Very nice, I do wonder how reliable they are now, be good to find out some how. Those switch gears look cool I do wonder about them getting snagged on your jacket or when cleaning and being ripped off though. Otherwise AWSOME! 😊👍🏼
Great review TMF, I really like the look of the bike, dare I say it, I prefer it to the Ducati street fighter, I’m in the market for another bike and both the KTM and Ducati are top of the list. Depends on how they ride.

Hello chief. I just bought a ‘22 Super Duke R EVO. I’m glad that you have had an opportunity to review it. I currently have three scooters: a Victory Kingpin, a new CB500XA and the KTM. As a geezer, 65, I find it a satisfactory collection of cruiser, adventure bike and a hyper bike.
*Let me die a young man’s death* by Roger McGough:
Let me die a young man’s death
not a clean and in-between
the sheets holy water death
not a famous-last-words
peaceful out of breath death
When I’m 73
and in constant good tumour
may I be mown down at dawn
by a bright red sports car
on my way home
from an allnight party
Or when I’m 91
with silver hair
and sitting in a barber’s chair
may rival gangsters
with ham-fisted Tommy guns burst in
and give me a short back and insides
Or when I’m 104
and banned from the Cavern
may my mistress
catching me in bed with her daughter
and fearing for her son
cut me up into little pieces
and throw away every piece but one
Let me die a young man’s death not a free from sin tiptoe in candle wax and waning death not a curtains drawn by angels borne ‘what a nice way to go’ death
Happy new year. I am glad you keep stuff back to continue entertaining the troops through lockdown. A very nice bike but I still fancy the 390 or whatever the new version is
Cheers TMF a great first impression review it looks lovely
Cheers Ian - happy New Year to you too.....
Thanks Andy, she is a beauty. I look forward to your streetfighter comparison.
Looks like a great bike
Another great video
Thanks 👍
The video I’ve been waiting for. I’m currently in the position of choosing between this and the GT version ready for the arrival of spring time.
I went from a 790 to the 2020 KTM 1290r it was the SDR I was waiting for. I’ve had it for 4 months and enraptured every ride. I also have the MotoGP blue and orange, you can set the screen to be permanently orange.
Nice one - that blue is cool isn’t it...
Great review, and Happy New Year! Hoping to get my reviews edited (half) as nicely as yours in 2021! Cheers!
You’re too kind sir!
Lovely bike indeed! I like the blue, instead of all those black bits. Nice touch.
Good first look TMF. Happy New Year.
Same to you!
Nice one!
Ah i now own this bike and love it changed the silencer
I look forward to the rest of your review of the SDR. I am seriously considering trading in my SDGT for the new R.
Stay tuned - lots more to come over the next week or two on this one.....
This color scheme is awesome but the new 2022 blue color scheme looks even more ‘’🤤’’
Pure hooligan bike, and you have to love that!! Thanks Andy, stay safe brother.
You got that right! You too Andy.....
Love the orange nite mode !
A flyer video. It must be about bedtime 😄. Hopefully 2021 will be better than the last disaster we went through. Cheers sir🥃
Cheers Chad - it’s breakfast time here!
This debate always comes up however I pronounce it -I regretted uttering the name as soon as I did so!!!
Thanks for images of warm weather and green leaves.
Ho ho,this bike turned you into a hooligan.
Yes it's that sort of bike Alan - and I thought the warm sunny weather would be appreciated here in the UK this time of year...
On my second Super Duke. The torque snd horsepower all below 9500 rpm. More horsepower and torque than the Streetfighter V4 up til 9500 rpm. Streetfighter is track rpm. Super Duke street rpm.
That colour scheme is absolutely stunning. As for the bike, personally prefer the GT. 28 Celsius and sunshine seems like years ago.
Praying Mantis Green (or Kawasaki Emerald) would have been more apropo for the Insect bike, IMHO.
Tell me about it....
Another great vid Andy! Beautiful looking bike... much more aggressive looking than my wee 790
Indeed Dave - a beast as KTM said (v your "scalpel")....
Nice idea to give a close up on the controls, reviewer's often talk about them but until you get a close up it's sometimes difficult to understand the point. Thanks TMF
I did a brief menu setting control how to vid on my own channel.
after I demoed one back in September I am going to purchase the black one in May. Upgrading from my street triple RS. That I use for my daily commute. Looking forward to seeing what you run down video says about it. I’m hoping it’s gonna be a good commuter/weekend toy
The most non-wheelie review of this bike I have seen, but well done
Cheers Brian - too predictable to wheelie this one everywhere! (that's my excuse - that plus I can't do wheelies....or particularly want too!)...
Lovely bike and what a road to ride it on. I used to work at Halton but would stay in Buckingham so I could ride that road twice a day 👍.
Yes some nice roads around there....(at least for Buckinghamshire!)
Looking forward to the Mrs and her report.
Nice bike, can’t wait for some warm dry days again
You and me both! ...it's snowing out of my window as I type!!
You and me both Vernon!! Stay tuned for lots more sunny rides on the KTM coming soon!
The purpose of those exhaust bends and bulges are for the EPA, DOT, and AQMD (Air Quality
Management District), not for fluid dynamics or power. Unfortunately, if you take them out,
you still have a bunch of tuning to do.
@@daveinwla6360 I just like the aesthetics of the exhaust. In purpose there can be beauty in my eye.
@@vernonwitney806 - I gotta admit, those pipes are a bold-stroke statement!
Actually I find the nakeds far more practical than sports bikes....
Great Reviews as always. 👌👌😊
Thank you
Not sure about the naked version but I was impressed with GT version, the engine is indeed a beast even in touring trim.
Yes I can't get on with Rhino looks of the GT but agree it is almost just as much of a beast as the SDR
May I say that you have very smooth transitions between your video clips - I suspect that is not by chance! Nice work 👍
Thank you for noticing Rikky - that's what takes up most of my editing time!!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yep same here!
As always, high quality informative and unbiased review! Keep raising the bar TMF 👍🏾
Curious about your first ride comparison against the MT10SP & Aprilia Tuono you last tested...grin factor?
All much on a par to a normal road rider like me really Kenny (I'm not a track day fan or wheelie merchant as you know) - pick the one you like the look of most and enjoy! Can't go wrong with any of those three.....
What a beast of a machine, love it mate!!!
Me too!
Ktm killed it with styling on this one.
All the Dukes look the same.
Great vid & what a gorgeous brute.....the KTM I mean lol. Really like it & it's my favourite supernaked by a mile. Not sure I could consistently be a good boy on it though.
Not seen a bad review of this bike yet, looks the business
You’re so funny mate... the first thing needs doing is a new can, reflash of the ecu and last, needs to be placed in the garage for the bmw s1000 rr.... and definitely need to blur out that tft so the old bill doesn’t give you any Shyte!
Great birthday gift ....vid of ktm from tmf!
Happy Birthday!
'Uses the engine as a stressed member, a bit like things like the Panigale do' - The Yamaha MT-07 and KTM Duke 790 also use the engine as a stressed member meaning riders at the more affordable end of the market may benefit from such a feature.
Indeed!
Great review, great bike👍
Thanks Andy, I enjoyed it!
My pleasure as ever Rutger - always good to have you along.....
Like it I'd have one in my garage and maybe one it might be possible look forward to seeing more . Cheers : )
Stay tuned Malcolm....
I'm like 5'11"-6' and I'm on my tippy toes too. But thats okay, every time I come to a stop I lean to the left a little so I can just plant my left foot and keep my right foot on the rear brake
That’s how I ride too....
That's a good looking KTM, presumably the muted exhaust is an £800 'upgrade'..... Thanks TMF, look forward to the next one.
Thanks as ever Colin......
That's just quite a machine. Undeniable.
Very nice, I do wonder how reliable they are now, be good to find out some how. Those switch gears look cool I do wonder about them getting snagged on your jacket or when cleaning and being ripped off though. Otherwise AWSOME! 😊👍🏼
My 2017 SA S has been incredibly reliable. On par with the Hondas and Kawasakis I've had and much better than BMW or Ducati.
Great review TMF, I really like the look of the bike, dare I say it, I prefer it to the Ducati street fighter, I’m in the market for another bike and both the KTM and Ducati are top of the list. Depends on how they ride.
You'll be interested in my videos for the next few weeks then as I "do" the Streetfighter after this and have a direct comparison video too......
The coolest look any middle aged man can achieve is on one of those. Just don't remove the lid and break the illusion. What a bike. Looks like KTM have really polished the Super Duke now.
Agreed - and good to hear from you again, it's been ages! Where have you been??
@@TheMissendenFlyer I've been here mate. I have commented on a good few videos of yours over the past year, or so I thought. Understandably you may not of mentally logged them or something who knows.
Anyway all good, and also good to see the channel powering on.
Keep it coming sir, you have continued to bring diverse top quality content. Its greatly appreciated by many as far as I can see.
Thanks again and here's to a brighter 🙏 2021 👍
Great review, looks like a lovely machine. However my money is on the Ducati Street fighter 👌
Great review
Thanks Philip!
Great review ..Is it still the case that the extras already fitted have to be unlocked at extra expense ?.
Sadly yes....
