You are not the only ones having problems with PPU 7.62(may be closer to 7.62 NATO in size) in an AR10 based platform, It seems that the chambers are just slightly tight so the cases stick when hot as 7.62 NATO neck dia is .0017 wider than .308 .

That is just TH-cam groupie Parrot mouth talking nonsense.
I've been loading ammo and wildcat cartridges since 1976 and a custom rifle builder for 25 years.
I even build specialized AR 10s in odd cartridges and all of the WSM magnums.
It might help to identify High pressure loads by looking at the fired case primers.
Seems like all rifles there are total junk .

@@wigger88 I am an advanced reloader going back to 1976 so all my ammo is reloaded by me.
I use PPU brass & bullets and the bullets I shot to target o just blasting bullets or shooting varmints.
I buy from Graf & Sons online sales all the PPU products.
I am considering shooting the PPU 375 - 300 grain round noise FMJ for Alaskan Yukon Moose from my AR 10 I've done in 375-300 WSM.
If I were to have a from behind shot to angle a bullet from back of ribs to frontal area the PPU 300 grain round noise FMJ should do well when they leave the AR 10s 25.5 inch Pac Nor super match barrel muzzle at 2550 FPS.
The other PPU bullets that do well from my AR 10 I've done in 6.5-284 Norma are the PPU 156 grain semi pointed soft points that mimic flight path of the Norma 156 grain Oryx and Vulcan bullets.
I can save the High-cost Norma bullets and shoot the low cost PPU bullets to get load testing and distance test to set the scopes target knobs to work with a range finder and put load data in a book for very same 156 grain weight bullets.
I do have a feeling if shooting the 6.5 PPU 156 grain bullets at deer or Elk they would be find because these are extremely long bullets and the 6.5-284 is a dead match for the 270-win shooting the same close bullet weights as in 6.5 mm bullets.

I don't buy any loaded ammunition when I reload for all my firearms, but what I can say the PPU brass - bullets I use bought through Graf & Sons works extremely well and very good prices.
I especially like the PPU 311" 150 grain boat tail soft points to load for 7.62x39 that shoot very will from by AR 15 - 7.62x39.
make an excellent deer load using 25 grains of CFE -Black powder.
I have over 1000 PPU 7.62x39 brass for reloading - very good brass !
I use PPU 6.5 mm 139 grain FMJ and 156 grain semi round nose bullets for my 6.5-284 Norma in the AR 10 - they both work great!

As another has said, an issue with cycling (beyond break in period) could be the vertical foregrip. The angle which it’s held puts diagonal pressure on the pump action and puts pressure on the pump’s guide rod.
Try using an angled or handstop style grip. Also I recommend over lubing the gun.
Old machine gunner’s trick is to have a small squeeze bottle of ATF fluid in a pocket for when your gun is heating up. It keeps you in action during the fight and you clean up later.

@markhanna3990 I would like to strongly disagree with that. ARs/ M4s love to be ran wet. If it's too wet (never see it with an AR) than the excess will just be blown off. Do a quick Google search and you will confirm that

@@658websteryes, you are right. We use an AR10 style (PWS) 308 for culling here in Qld and that's exactly what they need. I'm amazed at the old wives takes out there.
The action is completely enclosed when locked up, so dust ingress isn't an issue sticking to the lube. The firearms can be covered in dust out here, but the internals are clean. AR's are very well refined in that respect. However, our firearms are piston driven, and stay clean around the bolt area between cleaning. Additionally we use LVPO scopes 1-8x that accept screw-on flip up dust caps, wouldn't be without them on working firearms.

I suggest a angle fore grip instead of that one. The angle one allows you to have your thumb over the side rail as well as the lower rail giving you better stability while firing and will probably not kick you off target as much with that vertical grip since they're not used much anymore for this reason

A C clamp is great for semi auto rifles for firing fast. If it's a pump gun I barely see the point because the fastest way of running that style gun is to pump the action as soon as possible after taking the shot. So, if he were to take your advice, he would be waiting for the recoil to settle back on target, then take his thumb off the handguard to cycle the action. That will, again, throw your view off target. It doesn't make for quick follow up shots. Also, a C-clamp is more strenuous to utilize for long periods of time, but especially in the case where you're trying to alternate between a C clamp and pumping the foregrip. Don't forget the he also cannot use the vertical foregrip to pull the rifle back into his shoulder.

PPU is a favored brand for reloading as the brass tends to run thicker. That combined with a hotter round could cause the casings to stick a bit. Could remove the BCG, take a bit of cleaning rod with a bronze brush soaked in CLP, chuck that into a drill and do a little polishing of the chamber. A .45ACP bore brush would work but they also sell 7.62 chamber brushes.

Nice shooting! If you find that the point of impact drifts in the direction of the last sight correction, try lightly tapping the turret with something to settle the adjuster screw after every correction. I imagine you probably know that, but thought I would throw it out there in case you didn't. Also, for lube, I have used a lightweight synthetic engine oil on tight guns because it doesn't have the detergents that some gun lubes have that keep breaking down carbon and creating a slurry. It looks like you do your research before putting out a video on a firearm and use proper firearms safety at all times, which I greatly appreciate. Good for people to have a proper role model. honestly get a angled grip if that, you shouldnt riding the grip forward as the buffer spring will push it back forward into battery. A lot of guys use a modified C-clamp style for shooting pump action spring assisted platforms like this where they will C-clamp it on the pull back, and let go of the pump and let the spring carry it forward, and essentially 'hover' your hand just off the pump as it flies forward and meet it when it goes back into battery. Pretty sure Aussie reviews uses the technique in his video, but it helps with cycling, the gun does get sticky but it shouldnt be sticking with less than a mag through it based on the reviews ive seen.

The buffer spring won't send it all the way home, we tested it a number of times, it's inconsistent. I have an angled forgrip here to throw on and can try that out, as i had it for my other pump action 308.. Gotta run it very wet, which is suitable for something with a good dust cover.

At one time I owned an SLR, alas we are only allowed a straight pull single shot version. I only use a fraction of the amount you use Jack. During my deer stalking days 4 or 5 rounds would be the amount I would use in one day, but on the range from 50 perhaps 100 on some occasions. On our local towns rangers most only allow us to use reduced full bore loads, these are easy on recoil, but as you are using factory loads you must suffer from the recoil on your camel culls.

Interesting to see another pump action rifle. I've had a play with the Troy ones over here in Europe, and whilst I'm sure their mothers love them, I'm not a big fan. I know why they exist here (due to licensing etc) but I'd prefer a bolt action or straight pull. Have you considered using a 6.5 Creedmoor for the Camels? with the amount of rounds you are putting through those rifles it may be a bit more forgiving and give you a better longevity before having to swap out the barrel?

Well it sucks that they make you use a pump but at least its something. What I really dont like is that they are charging you $3,500 for a gun that I can but in the US for $1000 at most. The only AR10s that cost $3,500 are going to be the top of the top of the line brands.
If you have mag feeding issues (which you should not because 308 is not picky) try the metal mags from companies like LaRaue if you can get them. I have rifles that will not feed from the pmags but run prefect with the high dollar metal mags. Downside is they are $100 a mag.
Also be sure to keep that BCG lubed up. ARs like to run with plenty of lube. You dont need to soak it in it till its dripping but a rag with lube on it to wipe it all down before use works very well. With the amount of dust you have that gets on everything that will be helpful

    • @Stick1370

I assume that is Australian dollars and not US dollars. But, for the same money you could have a very nice rifle, with a very nice trigger, with a Cerakote finish, scoped, with a bipod ready to go for the same money. I don't know about spending that much for the metal mags. Magpul mags should be pretty reliable. Not sure what is available in Australia, but Hexmags are decent and inexpensive in the US. Lancer makes some really good polymer magazines with steel feed lips also. They are typically around double the cost of a Magpul mag in the US.

If you wanted to improve the trigger with an aftermarket unit, are you legally required to have someone else do the work? It looks like a standard DI AR lower so there are probably a lot of drop-in options available. And if you throw an angled fore grip on, I bet it would extract a little better. Either that, or polish any chamber burrs with a dremmel to right-size the tolerances for PPU if you’re sitting on a size able stockpile of ammo. Such a difficult to operate design, rotary threa bolt head with straight pull vertical grip. Not a design most shooters can pick up and learn to shoot accurately and rapidly either in a high target number pest control or combat situation
Also very poor design for dust sand dirt of your shooting environment.
Will be lots of sand dust jams in that chopper, not the best vehicle to be clearing malfunctions
Stick with a light short barrel bolt action. Your are extremely proficient with that bolt. Most reliable action fast3st kills and high accuracy for 5he type of killing you are doing
Reloading as you know produces the most reliable feed and accuracy ammo.
Switch to a slow burn rate powder that doesn't quit produce compressed powder loads and has good grouping accuracy.
If you're shooting 7.62 NATO?, load to 2500 fps max with thin jack bullets of 125 gr or less in hollow points
Will produce less chamber and barrel heating with loss of accuracy barrel warp. And quick kills lots of bleeding lung shots
Enjoyed you Run n Gun on the one humpers. Quality shooting. Lots of clean kills. Your old rough looking bolt worked well in that tough environment
Most homicides with a modern firearm are NOT committed by a severely mentally ill person
Vast majority are by out of control emotions angry full of rage pissed off want to kill to get even otherwise normal people.
Most often a male involving his spouse partner, work acquaintance, supervisor or other in authority.
Reaso why so few murders that use firearms are found criminally insane or mentally diminished in intent
Your firea4ms control laws down under serve to keep firearms out of the use of the extreme mentally ill and the mass murders they commit too often
The in public mass hunting them down like animals and bullet butcher them with high cyclic rate firearms is totally out of control here in the USA. The butchers with guns range from rage filled 6 yr Olds in schools to old geezers that got pissed off in church and dumped a few rounds into His Fellow Believers.

I must say, after reading comments here, that we havent had any extraction issues with PPU 308 ammo, the 150gn softpoints. This is in an SR25 type rifle used for culling (different rules here for Qld graziers who prove "need"), and two Rem 7600 308's. The pump guns are perfect for walk-up shooting, not best for trying bipod, rest or shooting stick stuff. Id suggest that Wedgetail thing has either a tight chamber (not a smart idea for a pump rifle and its intended purpose), or a crappy-cut one. Which I'd doubt. The PPU does have a big muzzle flash from the 16" barrels though, more than other brands of cull price ammo. Id say, try it for yourselves before taking as gospel any internet posts, including mine.

  • @geekofsteal
    @geekofsteal 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

My apologies if you've already addressed this in another video or in another comment, but is there a particular reason why you don't use a sling for your rifles, even while hunting/culling?
I ask because I feel like you're taking a big risk of dropping your rifle in the dirt, risking particulates entering the action, or possibly blocking the barrel if you were to drop it barrel down.
Also, I would personally prefer, if I were hunting/culling as you do, and if I needed to load magazines while on the move, for my arms to be completely free of the task of holding the rifle.

    • @geekofsteal
      @geekofsteal 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Additionally, I think if you were to add some kind of ammo satchel/pouch on the stock of your rifle, the balance would be more weighted to the rear, which will reduce fatigue even further as you are 'running and gunning'. It might make the rifle heavier overall, yes, but with the sling and the balance taking away strain from your support hand/arm, I think it would make for a less strenuous experience.

See our friend and farmer's chief support officer Little Johnny Howard on the TV yesterday preaching about how there is no legitimate need or user in Australia of the Wedgetail MPR 308 pump action rifle.
Maybe he should engage his tiny little brain before he before he opens is tiny little mouth and sprouts such massive nonsense. Not a quote but he said something along the lines of there is nobody in Australia who could possibly support the ownership or use these weapons as being legitimate after what happened at Port Arthur.
Now, and on a different topic, I do not deny Port Arthur happened, but it would be nice if they found the real perpetrator and put him/her/them in gaol and not the poor patsy they gaoled for the crime.
Find your self a copy of the booklet 'Deadly Deception at Port Arthur' by Joe Vialls and have a read - it can be found on the Internet in PDF. It is mind blowing. And, yes, I know there are people who want to declare the book as a complete fabrication and a conspiracy, but far too many coincidences are documented in it to be ignored.

It's not just the PPU that is problematic, heard also SAKO ammo was an issue and a few others with the MPR308. Makes sense, no primary extraction and high pressure. Same issue with the Oceania Precision, SCSA and Warwick.
308WIN not a good round for no primary extraction, bad move. 223Rem with the lower pressure and less case surface area is less prone to problems, not immune.
You want least problems, reload your own on the lower end on the powder charge and don't anneal your cases.
Just because this rifle is more expensive ammo gets blamed. I got two SCSA Taipans, looking at getting a third. And they got fucking roasted when difficult to extract, gun got blamed not ammo. Fancy that aye. Hahaha
