  • Join Danny and Jack on a day filled with unexpected twists as they set out to maintain crucial water points on the station. However, their plans take a turn as curious camels keep crossing their path, leading to a series of delays and challenges. Watch the struggle against the clock and the camels, only to be faced with an unforeseen vehicle issue at the end. It's a day of Outback unpredictability!

When the camels were running in front of the water tank, all I could think was don't shoot the tank. Love watching your day to day work. Very fun to watch. Thanks to the wife for saving the day. Good woman there. Cheers from Utah USA.

I would love to know more about Danny too. Some carefully thought out questions, some he could have input to beforehand. Let him tell a bit about his family's history, the country he comes from, what he loves (and does not) about working with the rest of you mob.
Clearly you trust him 'going bush' with you on the back Jack, chasing camels. The way he weaves his way through the bush, is really skillful.
It's okay that he is seemingly shy. My partner of 23years is an Aboriginal man. He's not one for a lot of words, doesn't need to sell or prove himself to anyone. Will speak when it's important enough to him.

Given you've got local WiFi at the water station, you might be able to use some cheap smart moisture sensors like the ones people use for alerting when their plants need to be watered. If you put a few at different levels of the tank you could at least confirm if the float level matches up with the sensor reading. You could also put a smart electrical load sensor like the Kill-a-watt on it to read the voltage from the pump.

Hey mate, easiest way for water flow checking is install a IoT flow sensor to the output side of the pump. Super simple and will run on WiFi.

Could You use Drones to Survey Water Points and Look for Camels?

Just a thought but you mentioned that you could see the dipstick on the tank via a camera.... Is there any way you could rig up a small water wheel in the flow and paint four black and white segments on the side of it facing the camera ? That way you could see flow, if any, and actually come to recognise good flow over poor flow. Could be as basic as possible, no need for complicated especially out there.

I'm surprised to see the camels and the cattle don't scratch on the solar panels and screw them up. We have problems with cattle breaking a lot of stuff at the water holes. Everything has to be protected with fencing and what not.

Just curious. would it be beneficial to put a roof over the over the open troughs, to help with evaporation and algae

I thought the same thing. Don't know how practical it would be, or if the cost/benefit analysis would stack up.

I am very new here. You are invested with camels! How do the cattle get water if there is a fench around the water holes? Danny is such a caracter!
