    Hi Jack, like you, I’ve spent many years shooting and culling in Africa. I’ve noticed from your videos a couple of pointers that could help improve your cull rate.
    1) it looks like you’re too quick to move to the next target, and actually move the weapon to the next target before you have finished the one you are currently working on. You also tend to flinch when squeezing the trigger, especially on the quick shots. I had the same problem. To get around this, you must “follow through” on your shot. The best way to do this is to line up your shot, pull the trigger gently whilst keeping the cross hairs in the same place, then as you fire, FORCE yourself to WATCH through the SCOPE, where the round IMPACTS the target and try keep the cross hairs on the hit point as best you can through the recoil. This will take practice. Over time and practice it won’t effect your timing but will get to almost 99% kill rate. Yes 99 culls with 100 rounds.
    2) once you master the above, normally a couple of months, you’ll move onto snap shooting. The best I can explain it is when we line up our shots and delay we tend to hesitate and cringe for the coming recoil and causing us to flinch when you expect the round to go off. This means the cross hair move all over the place as you line up a shot. If you notice, the first time your cross hairs hit the target they stay on the target for a fraction of a second whilst your brain starts to process the coming recoil. In this first fraction of a second you can get the shot off before you start thinking about it and crapping yourself for the expected recoil. Remember to force yourself to watch through your scope where the rounds hit. Practice this at the range to see what I mean.
    3) I’ve culled in lots in bush similar to what you have in WA whilst in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana and I always head for trees for cover and to rest your weapon on. Resting your weapon against the side of a tree will improve your shot placement incredibly. You should be walking tree to tree or tree to fence post, or fence post to car. Plan your stalks/approach accordingly from tree rest to shoot to tree rest to shoot.
    Good luck and I’ll watch your progress!!

    A idea from the the northwest USA hunting we use shooting sticks made from 4ft round wood dowels lashed together towards the top. Like buffalo hunters back in the day for long shot in brush. They work amazing form long shots like shooting off a bench. Their a few dollars compared to a bipod which is way more

    Jack you will love the Bogpod deathgrip. I have had mine for roughly 12mths and it has made it possible to take shots I wouldn't have bee able to off hand. From most of the vids I have seen you are moving quite a lot to shoot the camels. The bogpod once you get comfortable with it will be able to be carried on the move and save you always taking a knee to finding a tree.

    Great review Jack, My MPR has the 15" hand guard and yes it is great to have that room to mount some accessories. I am running the PMC ammo in mine as well ( PPU and Sierra ammo will not cycle through the MPR ) and they cycle great but like you mentioned they seem to go straight through and minimal damage if they don't hit bone, I tried ADI 135gr HP on my last trip and they were awesome the only thing is they aren't cheap. I have a Grovtec buffer tube QD sling mount and Grovtec single point sling if you are thinking of going with one it works really well if you are chasing on foot easy to disconnect and reconnect.

    mate , from your terminology , I'm betting you spent some time in the ADF, your review is very good and concise.
    the PPC ammunition, I would wager the cases are over expanding in the chamber, and binding, have you tried a spray of silicon lube on the rounds , in the 60,s in Vietnam the Americans had to oil the first 5 round in the Armalites , our the weapon would jam and fail to extract.
    i enjoy the videos as they show an area of Australia I wont get to see, and how you manage a large cattle station.

    In case you wanted to know but there's a company called Cogburn Arsenal who makes and sells an SR-25/AR-10 magazine stripper clip guide that allows you to use US surplus M14/M1A 308 5 round stripper clips to load your Magpul magazines. I don't know the legality or the availability of the M14/M1A stripper clips in Australia but it might be an option to look at. I've used the M1A stripper clips before on my M1A magazines and they work really well. Just an idea.

    Would have liked to see you try running a mag or two of that PPU through without firing, just to see if the rounds are trying to stick prior to fireforming.
    I know that doesn't change the situation for you now but, if the PPU are getting sticky prior to fireform, there may be something could be done to the case head section of the chamber to alleviate the problem. Now that I think of it, just simply polishing the 1st 6 or 8 mm of the chamber where the case head resides may be enough to get some positive results.

    • @fluchtigziege3202
      @fluchtigziege3202 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      PPU being cheap is why I bought a Howa instead of a Sabatti or Tikka like I was originally going to for my 223, I was paying around $11 a box for PPU bulk, whilst everything else except the occasional Winchester bulk pack was well above that even buying bulk closest I got was PMC Bronze at $17 a box of 20..
      as for my other guns, the 270 likes ppu, the 300 win doesnt mind it. so I count myself lucky, I would hate to have a fussy gun, a buddies 223 Tikka jams up with a few cheap ammo options including that Frontier stuff Barry's was selling

    • @sokhar69
      @sokhar69 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, PPU is the cheapest I've seen, so anything that runs it is a big bonus. I think maybe .308 PPU might only be suited to bolt actions, as the primary extraction has a bit more leverage force than a pump action. Also, pump actions might be better suited to smaller calibres like .223, less case for the primary extraction to deal with. Maybe less ammo fussy. But I'm just guessing. Cheers.

    • @fluchtigziege3202
      @fluchtigziege3202 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sokhar69 Maybe but I know plenty of people with bolt guns that dont like ppu even in 222 and 223 etc, if the pump action has an AR15 style extractor then it should work as fine as a Howa 1500/weatherby vanguard or a Rem 700 as they all have AR15 style extractors, I think its more to do with minute differences between the case width, neck length etc, I do notice all my PPU brass needs a decent amount trimmed off the first time I reload it.

    • @sokhar69
      @sokhar69 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah, interesting. So it's more to do with chamber tightness and tolerances, and how sloppy the quality control is at the PPU factory. Maybe also brass thinness and powder load. Strange that a typical sub-moa guaranteed Howa action would run such inconsistent ammo well, because you'd think Howa accuracy is not just the barrel but the precision of the chamber and bolt face and lugs etc. I don't really know enough to comment on the subject, but interesting to speculate. Cheers.

    • @fluchtigziege3202
      @fluchtigziege3202 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sokhar69 my Howa 1500 shoots PPU sub MOA all day long...
      my remington likes ppu too but wont cycle winchester brass...
      my weatherby vanguard shoots everything ive fed it sub moa.
      I can knock 1" spots off of trees with my Howa at over 300m without much effort.
      some guns are just nice out of the box, my remington is my regret purchase, I would probably go a Howa or Weatherby if I replace it.

    Well Jack since your next video usually covers my comment on the last video I will just quit commenting. I just don’t want to waste your time and you are covering these things anyway. Almost like you’re reading my mind. I looked the MPR308 and it seems they(Wedgetail) really try to make a weapon you all can use in AUS. Curious if the PPU brass is swelling causing the jamming issues? I have seen this with a few of the different brands. I have even had it happen with the same brand just different grain bullet. I am also impressed with the amount of rounds you have put through it and the fact that the level of dirt is still limited. Great review and hopefully they don’t get these taken as well.

    There are three measuring tools that are required to determine whether there exist any of the "headspace" issues that everybody in the Comment Section is yelling about: a .308/7.62x51 NATO "Go" chamber headspace gage, a "No-Go" chamber gage in the same caliber, and a CARTRIDGE case gage in that same designation.
    The first two are used to determine whether the rifle is within SAAMI specifications, and the last one checks the cartridges in question for min/max dimensions. The bolt should lock up-ready to fire- with a "GO" gage inserted into the chamber in place of a cartridge, but it should NOT lock into battery with a "NO-GO" gage inserted.
    A correctly-sized cartridge inserted into a Cartridge Case Gage will protrude above the notch but below the rim of the gage,-(min/max dimesions.)
    Most good reloading suppliers carry them or can get them for you.
    I doubt that either the chamber nor any of the ammo would fail any of those dimensional tests; the problem is more likely related to the chamber pressures each respective ammo brand develops in that extreme Outback heat.
    Soft-ish brass may also factor in, as would a rough, dirty or scratched chamber wall.

    Also - I have a BOG Deathgrip, pretty great tripod, its only weakness is the poor quality bearings and how it articulates the head (basically everything beneath the grip down the the bipod itself felt cheaply made compared to rest of it). I modified mine with some professional camera gear following this guide th-cam.com/video/7SdYmHgIyyo/w-d-xo.html (I didnt buy their kit, bought similar components & 3d printed a spacer) I retained the option of either using the "death grip" head for most of my rifles or attaching directly to an ARCA rail that i have on my Tikka Tac A1. Post modifications its ever so slightly lighter as a bonus.

      @@strider5119 well… it depends on the firearm. An ar-15 has a charging handle but it’s kinda hard to get a good hold on. Others have a side charging handle with the same issue. If you had a pump it would make a malfunctioning magazine, weak ammo, or dirty gun quickly and easily clear and load a new round. And stuck cases where you have trouble pulling the small charger it could really come in handy I think. It be like an extra security for a combat or competition firearm where time counts.
