  • How to completely disable traction control on gm/chevy trucks and suv's.
    NOTE: This will completely shut off your traction control, only do this if you are off roading or are completely aware that your truck/suv, will, well...Drive like a truck or SUV with out all the fancy stuff. Hence, you could go in the ditch much easier if you're not paying attention.

    I drove from Arizona to California for a family trip and when I got to anaheim the light of the traction service went on and my gmc truck started shaking, so I Google it and found this video and I did the exact same thing, and my truck emedietly stopped the shaking and came back to normal. So thank you and God bless you for posting this video.

    I had the same issue with my 2012 Suburban 2500 4 X 4. I made a harness with a pig tail that plugs into that 25 amp fuse socket. The harness also contained a relay, fuse socket for the 25 amp fuse and a dash switch to energize the relay. With that installed, I can shut the trash off when I want to climb with it and turn it back on when done from the drivers seat. Another thing that would happen when it decided to de-rate engine power with the transfer case in low range is it would lock out all upshifts in the transmission keeping it locked in first gear. With the traction control trash off, the transmission will now upshift during hill climb with wheel/tire slip with full engine power. Right now, I'm wanting to install an aftermarket performance tuner that will allow adjustment for torque management (slow throttle response), set base idle to 800 RPM, deal with parameters on the charging system. Any suggestions here would be great. The RPM change and charging system issue is for the summer months here in AZ. I already have to replace the batteries (dual) every year because of heat cook out.

    • @Lexidezi225
      @Lexidezi225 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve never heard of problems with the charging system on these. I have a 2011 gmc 1500 and I have always noticed the idle is like barely over 500. The traction control shit screwed me on a hunting trip tho. But the original battery made it like 6 years here in Nevada and the second one I just replaced so two batteries in 11 years

    The ONLY good thing about the Chevy traction control is it allows you to use your cruise control on ice. Otherwise it is worthless. My 2017 van is a POS because of it, my old 04 with good ole anti spin diff was awesome, unfortunately after 718,000 miles the rust had begun to get to bad.

    I forgot about it (being completely off) and accidentally did a 280 degree burnout (mostly out of control ) in a big intersection early in the morning w no traffic. Hit the curb and blew tire off the rim.

      talkin shit I would guess that you're wheel bearing is going bad. My moms 07 suburban did the same thing in dry conditions. Lift each side of front end up and spin tire. if grinding noise or tight/slow spinning occurs you've got a bad wheel bearing. The bearing has a sensor in it that triggers the TC to monitor power which will cause what you're experiencing.

    Reply to Kyle. I don't off road but do drive in snow for 4 months a year. I have turned off stabiltrac to see the difference in snow. Deliberately over accelerating coming out of a corner on snow the stabiltrac almost totally stops my 2wheel drive Sierra from fish tailing. It sure will fish tail with it off. It's harder to know about the traction control feature. I wonder how you know whether it's the traction control or positrac diff that stops one wheel from spinning. Which opens a question in my mind. I'm thinking of buying a new Sierra 2 wheel drive. Is it worth paying $400 extra for positrac diff when the truck already comes with traction control?

    • @AveryExcavating
      @AveryExcavating  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bdinoz1 For a 2wd pickup I would say yes. Especially with my 4wd when towing the posi/auto locker is a huge help. but that depends on how much you tow/or don't tow for the matter. You'll (potentially) lose a lot of traction (50% worth) in the snow with you 2wd with out the locker. I think there is a breaking system that activates as well with the traction/stabilitrack, it also will cut power from the engine during high sensing of wheel slippage - which is really annoying when off roading. I will say that the entire system works excellent. I had a time this winter when pulling about 10k with the 2013 3500...it was snowing lightly and crossing a bridge I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have been...The rear tires began to slip and the trailer kept pushing me forward (essentially moving the truck and trailer to a jackknife position) The entire TC system I felt sent power and slowed each tire to completely correct the slide. So the entire system is love hate relationship. Great added safety, yet can be very limiting for attempting even some light off roading.

    • @AveryExcavating

      +Alexias Vargas Not sure with the Canyon. I would guess you've got to much weight on the truck in the back when pulling camper. LIfting up the wheel a bit with less weight on it. Also, if you busted a U turn real fast I could see that the light would come on. The systems are pretty sensitive.

    • @AveryExcavating
      @AveryExcavating  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Louis Bravo Hey Louis, I think it may be a wheel bearing going bad on your vehicle by the sounds of it. The TC gets its information from the bearing to sense slippage. When a bearing goes bad it also senses that and will turn warning lights on.

    I still can't get mine to turn off. I've turned them both off with the button, took out the fuse and even had it custom tuned. It cuts power while off roading and also won't do burnouts. Any other suggestions?

    • @baentertainment53
      @baentertainment53 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your custom tune wasn't very good. Getting a custom tune is supposedly the only way to truly disable it.

The fuse I found sais etc/ecm so Im wondering if this is the one? I couldnt find anything that specifically said traction or stabilycrap

    These trucks are completely useless in the snow on 2wd models. I would recommend anyone in the snow disabling this garbage, unless you like sitting and spinning in 4" of snow with brand new winter tires and 350lb of weight in the truck.

      +Angel seyer Hey Angel, I'm not a mechanic, however I would guess that it's a similar process. Check your fuse box and labels . Some of the older models could have used a separate fuse circuit for the TC specifically. Also, if it is coming on on dry pavement or regular driving it's most likely your wheel bearing going bad in the front. Very easy repair. Most shops will charge appox 500-700 per side. You could probably put an add on craigslist and find someone to do each side for $300 ish. Hope this helps.

    • @franklin999
      @franklin999 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kyle Riegle craigslist? I'm not sure I can do that. I'm mexican and I live here in Mexico so I bearly understand what u said to me about the wheel. However I'll try to pull out the same u did on this video. I appreciate u took the time to reply!! =)

    do i need this stupid stabilitrak if i live in southern california? the service light for it has gone off twice and im sick of spending money for it at the dealership. I have the 09 5.7L "LT model 2wd" thank you in advance

    • @AveryExcavating
      @AveryExcavating  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      jonathan colo Unless climate change really jacks things up...I would say no. HOWEVER...generally when the service light is on for traction control, its a sign that a front wheel bearing is going bad. It could be something simple like wiring, but in my old 2010, and my moms 2007 suburban...same exact thing happened. The wheel bearing is a sealed unit that has a sensor in it that detects wheel slipping. Generally when a wheel bearing goes bad it ruins the sensor. That's at least my experience. hope it helps.

    You could just hold the traction control button for like 5 seconds then it shuts the stabilitrak off without having to pull any fuse

    • @Tankyanker
      @Tankyanker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does however if you spin the tires to long it will turn back on. Was out in the dunes and broke my front axle. Trying to drive out in 2wd I had to send it and traction control and stabilitrack fucked me every time it would turn it on. It would hit my brakes or derate my throttle.

      I was on the freeway in my Impala and tried that. It worked for a second, but the system reactivated itself when I went around a tight on-ramp, reducing my power while I was getting into another freeway! Needless to say, that didn't work

  • @bdinoz1
    @bdinoz1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    My 2011 Sierra when you push the traction control button it turns off traction control. If you hold the button down about 10 seconds it also turns the stabiltrac off. You do have to do it every time you restart the truck.

    • @AveryExcavating
      @AveryExcavating  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      bdinoz1 Have you turned it off on ice and snow? Or trying to climb steep/sandy hills? I've owned the 2010, and now a 13' 3500 duramax and both (when you hold the button to turn TC completely off) still will resort to engaging some aspect of the TC system. It's like it overrides the switch. I haven't off road anything significant with the 2013 but it still activates even with the TC completely off. Does yours do this?

    I have a problem on my Chevy Silverado 08. This morning I turned it on and it said the traction control and stability rack were off, tried to drive it but at the time of gear shift it stutters and drivers really bad. Also I could barely turned it on, like the power had drained out. I don't know what caused it, been raining pretty heavy around here and yesterday I drove over some puddles...

    • @AveryExcavating
      @AveryExcavating  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +conpa18dany Id guess wheel bearing is going bad/is bad. However I'm not a mechanic. 07 Suburban did a similar thing to what your describing and it was a wheel bearing. The bearing has a sensor in it and controls the traction control. Once bearing goes out, it will disable power to vehicle because the bearing is basically sending a signal to the computer that the vehicle is slipping and out of control. Jack up each front tire. Spin tire while on the vehicle. If it grinds or makes noise or spins very hard - 90% chance its the bearing.
