  • All of these new electronic safety features are great! Traction control, vehicle stability control, electronic stability management, electronic stability program. Trac ESP, ESC. They are the best thing since seatbelts. Sometimes however you will need to briefly turn them off. I will explain the situations where you would need to do this. Different cars have Different Traction control lights and buttons and may differ when the Trac systems / buttons and lights are on or off. Check your owners manual for the specific settings and controls of your vehicle. I welcome comments and appreciate subscribers. Thanks- Ben

    Well, this is the first, out of five videos, that actually explains what the ESP Off button does. The snow berm analogy was the best example of it's function, and in three minutes. Thanks for this information, especially since I live in Buffalo, NY., this will help the wife and I. Adios.

    Been driving for close to 60 years and during that time, I have driven in some of the most treacherous winter conditions imaginable, all without traction control. To me, traction control is nothing but a crutch for those who wont take the time or don't really want to learn how to drive in adverse conditions. So the first thing I do whenever driving in snowy conditions is to turn off the traction control and trust my driving skills.

    • @stephenmartini5890
      @stephenmartini5890 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are so right. I love to go out and drive in the worst conditions imaginable. Blowing snow, sleet, ice-covered roads, frozen slush, the works. This further enhances my driving skills, every year. If you can't drive in these conditions, too scared to be behind the wheel, you shouldn't be driving, at all. If you get in and think about getting stuck, you will, stay home.

      @@stephenmartini5890 Well said.All these attachments are nothing but crutches for people who aren't willing to really learn how to drive safely in hazardous driving conditions.

    Thank you! I've rarely been able to get up my steep uphill driveway for the last couple of years and just happened to notice this button a couple of days ago. After three failed attempts at getting up my driveway last night (and three dangerous trips backing down the driveway which has a steep drop on one side), I remembered this button and pushed it. The fourth attempt wasn't easy, but I made it. I thought the button was turning Traction Control on. Thank you for explaining how or actually works!!! I have a feeling there will be less parking at the bottom of the hill this year. :)

    Great video Ben. TCS keeps you stuck. I teach that to many of my customers. (I drive a towtruck). However, maybe an edit or new video about the safety features and how they can actually be dangerous to drivers. I myself, do not like ABS, TCS, ESC, ESP. I was taught to drive correctly and can employ threshhold braking, accelerate/avoid, as well many more techniques and high-speed techniques. The fact that people become complacent and all these features can make a person over confident, thus becoming dangerous is a big issue. Over-driving those safety features is a huge risk.
    I really liked how you explained everything. Simple, concise and easy to understand. Make more videos Ben :)

    • @BenLindseyKiaLove
      @BenLindseyKiaLove  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that is normal. I've noticed that happening when I go over a bump, or turn on a steep hill etc. If the wheels bounce or lift up up too high the system senses it and will start engaging the Traction control. This is one of those scenarios where the computer doesn't really know whats going on. Thanks for watching!

    • @BenLindseyKiaLove
      @BenLindseyKiaLove  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I'm not entirely sure why your Escalade only does it when it gets hot, but sounds like maybe its something with the 4X4 differential. Sometimes if those get to warm the computer will shut off certain features like trac, all wheel drive etc. You can have it plugged into a diagnostic at Autozone for free if you want to try and get an idea of what's going on...

      Thank you for the compliment. Man I had an Outback L.L. Bean V6 a while back. (Before my Channel) I have a gnarley driveway and I used to rip it up. I can't remember the trac/differential set up but...anyways I sold Subys several times and its all about which diff set up you have. There are some mechanical and some electric and some both. But that makes all the difference with the way your Subaru will interact with the CPU; IE stability track abs etc.. Some of the early 2000's were still mostly mechanical and they really didn't need any electric control! We used to go out to the trade in lot in the snow and try them all out! Anysways I gotta get another brew! Have a good night. Hope that helps your search.

    Here is what happened: I was hosting a group of 10 people in a rented 15 passenger van with traction control in the Appalachian mountains. The driver of that van (not me) thought something was wrong with the vehicle because the traction control kept kicking in on wet mountain roads. She could feel the "bump bump" as the brakes came on, unexpectedly.
    Her solution was to drive the vehicle at about 5 mph on a road where other vehicles usually drive about 35 or 40. Needless to say, the locals and truck drivers on this mountain road quickly became enraged at the very slow 15 passenger van with out of state plates blocking the curvy mountain road where there was no place to pass.
    It created a very tense and dangerous situation because the driver (a nervous woman) refused to drive any faster because of the traction control.
    This is just a case where a safety feature can create a very dangerous situation. These rental agencies like Enterprise have to do a better job explaining to drivers how traction control works. Some people still dont understand Anti Lock brakes, and I had one professor who demanded to take the van back to the rental agency because the ant lock brakes kicked on and she insisted something was wrong wit the vehicle. Sheesh! Technology just creates new problems to aggravate us all.

      I love Subaru's I had an Outback LL Bean V6. It was probably one of the nicest cars I've owned. Fun to drive too! The Subaru AWD will do a lot of the functions that trac, stablity etc. do for 2 wheel drive cars. It depends on which Subaru AWD setup you have. I would drive it with the Traction Control on first and see how it does. If it gets too deep or you want to do some sliding etc. then turn it off. You are going to really enjoy your Subaru this winter. Congratulations.

    💪🏿💪🏿👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿 Ben. I drive a 2005 Mitsubishi Pajero GLS 3.0L Petrol, over here in the tropics. Incidentally, when I hit a rut or one wheel goes off the ground, that light starts blinking a bit till car is out of the rut. The light then goes off. I'm wondering, does this mean the Traction control system activate itself? There is a button for it, which I never touch.

    • @BenLindseyKiaLove
      @BenLindseyKiaLove  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that just means the system is currently working. It should default to ON every time you turn the car on. That sounds like normal working behavior. That wheel that gets off the road is trying to get back in sync with the others. It sounds like it is working fine. Where are you watching from?

Would it matter if I just do what you mentioned and go old school which I am old lol 68 yr and just keep it off even during the winter and snow .Thank you and God Bless.

    • @BenLindseyKiaLove
      @BenLindseyKiaLove  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, No I would leave it on all the time unless you get stuck. Every time you turn on the car the system is ready to go. It helps you drive in snow and ice. If it maxes out when you are stuck then turn it off to try to get loose. But otherwise leave it on all the time. Thanks for watching.

    My advance Trac and power steering now, is on. My cars front right tire spends and yes, car jerks and will cut off. I have to cut it on sometimes one time sometimes five. It's not fun when you are in traffic. So cutting off Trac will help it. Not the codes behind but least my car from cutting off? Also, I replaced my steering and it didn't help. Everything locked up and cut back on next day. Freaking stressed out! Hoping this will least help from the car cutting off. If I cut traction off.

    • @BenLindseyKiaLove
      @BenLindseyKiaLove  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really. In my experience the difference isn't really noticeable. And isn't worth losing the safety features in the long term. Now if you are talking about drifting or driving on a race track etc, where you need to be able to skid, powerslide or burnout etc that would be different. But for daily driving its good to leave it on.

    Just wanted to mention, some of theses TC buttons are not mounted in the most visible locations. Our 2016 Subaru Limited Outback for example has this button mounted in the lower part of the dash down below the steering column. If you're not familiar with it's location, you're not going to find it when faced in a situation that requires it to be shutoff. So I strongly advice people to familiarize themselves with it's location as well as use.

      @vvvvmmmm11 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, it shouldn’t be letting you fishtail if the system is working. Sounds like there is a malfunction with something in the traction control system. Sometimes having the four-wheel-drive on will turn off some systems. But it shouldn’t fishtail in that case either. Hope that helps.
