  • All of these new electronic safety features are great! Traction control, vehicle stability control, electronic stability management, electronic stability program. Trac ESP, ESC. They are the best thing since seatbelts. Sometimes however you will need to briefly turn them off. I will explain the situations where you would need to do this. Different cars have Different Traction control lights and buttons and may differ when the Trac systems / buttons and lights are on or off. Check your owners manual for the specific settings and controls of your vehicle. I welcome comments and appreciate subscribers. Thanks- Ben

    Great Video! I turn ESC OFF when pulling out on rainy days in heavy traffic. I thought my car had stalled but it was the ESC braking/decelerating. I drive a stick and can feather the gas, way better knowing what you have than being surprised

    • @BenLindseyKiaLove
      @BenLindseyKiaLove  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Totally man. That's smart. Yeah when you pull out in traffic and the car stalls out- that can be startling. Especially if your cutting it close. Great point man. Im working on a part 2. I will have to put that in there. Thanks.

    Wow! This is the most thorough and helpful explanation that i have come
    across. I have a 2011 Escalade ESV and the light only comes on when it
    get HOT - 85+ degrees or more.

    • @BenLindseyKiaLove
      @BenLindseyKiaLove  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I'm not entirely sure why your Escalade only does it when it gets hot, but sounds like maybe its something with the 4X4 differential. Sometimes if those get to warm the computer will shut off certain features like trac, all wheel drive etc. You can have it plugged into a diagnostic at Autozone for free if you want to try and get an idea of what's going on...

    Great video Ben. TCS keeps you stuck. I teach that to many of my customers. (I drive a towtruck). However, maybe an edit or new video about the safety features and how they can actually be dangerous to drivers. I myself, do not like ABS, TCS, ESC, ESP. I was taught to drive correctly and can employ threshhold braking, accelerate/avoid, as well many more techniques and high-speed techniques. The fact that people become complacent and all these features can make a person over confident, thus becoming dangerous is a big issue. Over-driving those safety features is a huge risk.
    I really liked how you explained everything. Simple, concise and easy to understand. Make more videos Ben :)

    Thank you! I've rarely been able to get up my steep uphill driveway for the last couple of years and just happened to notice this button a couple of days ago. After three failed attempts at getting up my driveway last night (and three dangerous trips backing down the driveway which has a steep drop on one side), I remembered this button and pushed it. The fourth attempt wasn't easy, but I made it. I thought the button was turning Traction Control on. Thank you for explaining how or actually works!!! I have a feeling there will be less parking at the bottom of the hill this year. :)

      I think that is normal. I've noticed that happening when I go over a bump, or turn on a steep hill etc. If the wheels bounce or lift up up too high the system senses it and will start engaging the Traction control. This is one of those scenarios where the computer doesn't really know whats going on. Thanks for watching!

    Been driving for close to 60 years and during that time, I have driven in some of the most treacherous winter conditions imaginable, all without traction control. To me, traction control is nothing but a crutch for those who wont take the time or don't really want to learn how to drive in adverse conditions. So the first thing I do whenever driving in snowy conditions is to turn off the traction control and trust my driving skills.

    • @stephenmartini5890

      You are so right. I love to go out and drive in the worst conditions imaginable. Blowing snow, sleet, ice-covered roads, frozen slush, the works. This further enhances my driving skills, every year. If you can't drive in these conditions, too scared to be behind the wheel, you shouldn't be driving, at all. If you get in and think about getting stuck, you will, stay home.

    Great video brother thank you. I just purchased a 2006 sob and I’ve been trying to get information on it’s a SP button and now it specifically works for that make and model. So I wanted to ask if you could reference me to any videos or anyone I could speak to?! I literally just bought this and there’s a lot to figure out apparently. I’m pretty pumped!

    Like the self driven cars, a good dream but I wouldn't trust my life to it. I am definitely not a math guy, but there is too many variables or possibilities for it to consider. Similar to stories you have heard about how people getting hopelessly lost thanks to their faith in a GPS. Your video is a simple one, but worth thinking about. Good Job.

      I agree. I hope I never have to see it. Self driving cars are too much tech. Siri doesn't even work half the time, hows that going to work!?

    Been searching for a demo of an AWD car (mainly Subaru) going up a muddy or snowy hill with this turned off and on to see the difference. Have not found one yet. Make one and you'll get a like from me. I do like your explanation the best so far, though. Thanks!

      Thank you for the compliment. Man I had an Outback L.L. Bean V6 a while back. (Before my Channel) I have a gnarley driveway and I used to rip it up. I can't remember the trac/differential set up but...anyways I sold Subys several times and its all about which diff set up you have. There are some mechanical and some electric and some both. But that makes all the difference with the way your Subaru will interact with the CPU; IE stability track abs etc.. Some of the early 2000's were still mostly mechanical and they really didn't need any electric control! We used to go out to the trade in lot in the snow and try them all out! Anysways I gotta get another brew! Have a good night. Hope that helps your search.

      Thanks for the reply, I have a 2014 Outback 2.5i Premium if that helps. I've read about turning the traction control off in snow and muddy conditions but was curious to see what the real difference is. Sounds like your driveway is the ultimate test track 😁

      I was just trying it in my 2015 forester, up a shallow hill with slippery mud. Turning the traction control off made it notably faster. Also putting it in Low was better than in High/Normal.
