I'm early GenX and I agree. I say it's immoral to procreate for one simple reason: Badness Exists, whether to ourselves or that which we inflict onto others. Still, until we get mostly-automated performance of the most routinized, dangerous, and undesirable tasks, I will compromise and allow for "one child per woman per lifetime" (only if this child dies would another childbirth be OK). This goes FAR deeper than the environment and economy -- it's about human nature itself. We tend to be a shallow, petty, judgmental species to each other; many of us dishonest or exploitative; a few even violent and abusive. We respect only those who can forcefully assert themselves. If that's our litmus test for respectworthiness, then there's truly no hope for humanity.

However, too many thoughtful, potentially decent parents do not have children while irresponsible people have plenty. In my case yes, of coz, who'd want to be born, get "educated", spanked, punished, forced to obey someone who'd otherwise have no one that'd listen to them, satisfy their expectations, then work my whole life (i work 15+ hours a day these days), pay them monthly, get sick, old, have to pay for my own everything, be it insurance, doctors bills, electricity, water, food, everything, just to get some kind of illnesses, terminal or not, or maybe not even that, get into some uncontrollable traffic accidents etc, just to die?
