I've read/heard this before, but it's an urban legend. 1) the ballasts _very_ rarely go on these. If it is the ballast there are other and way cheaper options to replace one. 2) yeah the bulbs themselves can blow and a new one will be a different colour temperature as they age over time, but you can just buy a pair of new bulbs(D2S is the part number. I think. Don't quote me on that :)). A pair will cost 20-30 quid for half decent ones. You can even get a new bulbs that come in slightly different colour temperatures to match the old one, but given a pair costs eff all...
