I'm 41 years old and have been clinically depressed since age 4 or 5. I was seen by a psychologist in first grade, and since then, have been to many therapists, and have tried a number of medications. I understand what you are saying about it not being an identity, yet it has been such a part of me for so long, I don't know where depression leaves off, and the healthy part of me begins. I don't remember a time before depression.
In cases like these, I wonder if the condition is inflammatory and autoimmune. Have you heard of Jordan and Mikhaila Peterson's experiences with depression? They treated their depression effectively with an exclusion diet. Also, Wim Hof would suggest treating depression with daily cold exposure and the Wim Hof breathing method.
Ditto..exactly how I felt! Finally at 58, the doctors found the right combination of medication, with excersice and diet, I only knew sorrow for so long
@@breeemckinsey4342 I usually can find something that makes me not feel sad for short periods, like gardening or listening to music. If I'm home and feel especially anxious, I have medical marijuana which helps me sleep. I also will set a timer for certain tasks, and will stop after 20 minutes so it doesn't seem so overwhelming. It's something, anyway. Sorry you are feeling this way too. It must be tougher to have a little one and feel depressed. Hugs to you.
Hi. Depression is a reaction to trauma. It is how you perceive the reality, after sth unpleasant happens to you. I suggest, that you watch Sam vaknin videos on you tube. He also offers Cold therapy. God bless you

There is no shame in having depression just like there would be no shame if u had to deal with a muscle cramp. Both are due to a reaction of an organ, brain vs muscle. U deserve help & u deserve to live ur best life. Right now, u r the most important person in this equation. Take care of u 💞
Everytime I watch these videos, I cry because you really make me feel like it's okay to feel anxious, to feel depressed, sad, and even just to feel like I can be human. Nobody deserves to be told "Get over it." Like I was told, multiple times, and I won't back down on my true, authentic feelings, Nor will I ever let someone say the words "You're too sensitive." "It's the past." Or "You're being immature." Just because I spoke out against abuse, and I will forever be scared by these experiences, but now, nothing will come between my self love, ever again because of you. As I write this, tears of relief roll down my cheeks. I feel soo blessed to have found out about your channel. Thank you very, very much, Miss Mcadams.😊✨

100 percent agree with this. I find medication helps take the edge off when going through a depressive episode but therapy and changing the way you think helps tremendously and is the final piece in the puzzle. It just takes time and I feel that's where most people get stuck. I thankfully have family members who are helping me through my depressive episode but they always tell me it will end and my brain just needs time, therapy, mindfulness etc to develop healthy ways of thinking. Very beautifully said and I am happy I found your channel:) God sent!

I stumbled upon this channel one day, dunno why youtube waited for so long to recommend it to me because this is exactly what I need, and I have been searching for such content for a while. I finally started therapy around 1 year ago, and I cried first time after 6 months into it during a session because I realised I have been depressed since I was a kid, which, I never thought is possible. I might be on the spectrum so I just don’t understand the society, how people work and that constant frustration just depresses me even as a kid. I cried because I don’t know what a life without depression is, it’s been too long since the last time I walk on this earth without depression. The best way I can describe (my) Depression especially when it surfaces after a period of experiencing relative normal functioning is that it creeps into my thoughts and eventually a veil is lifted and I am made to feel any since of identity and satisfaction I have achieved is a lie and THIS low state of being is what I'm supposed to be feeling. It has taken years to get back my life from mental illness but it is worth it. Investing in your well being is always worth it because you deserve to be happy and to love yourself.

Thank you for this video. There are so many treatments for depression, that is so true. Exercise is probably the best that I have found, way better than pills! But so is sleep therapy (there are online modules), yoga, and disconnecting from negative people, the news, etc. And nature is a massive depression healer! Finally, depression does lift at midlife, for a lot of people. I've found that to be true. Good luck to all of you out there, don't let depression get the best of you.
I suffer from a chronic autoimmune. And when I talked about my struggles with it, someone said “You have depression.” Just one sentence. waking up with the idea that there's nothing to wake up for is the problem for many. It's easy to come to that conclusion which is why you need to find a reason
I like you. This is straight forward and very hopeful. It makes me feel that we really can manage depression. You mention many avenues to helping ourselves heal. We do not have to allow depression or anxiety to drag us down into the abyss. We can take some control and move forward into a healthier way of living.
Can't express enough gratitude for this video. I feel like it was written for my son! You speak to so many aspects that he struggles with and traps he falls into. I can't wait to watch this with him. ♥️
I think l started to feel helpless with all the contemporaneous things that happened this year. I am fascinated by the author JRR Tolkein. During the year l read LOTR three times. The characters never (save for one) never gave up. I was becoming so anxious and depressed. I would say never, never,...give up. These sessions are wonderful.
Depression is the only medical condition involving an organ where the organ isn’t regularly looked at through scans. You talk to a psychiatrist for 20 minutes, they tell you you’re depressed, and you walk out with an Rx. I really wish doctors would start actually looking at peoples brains to figure out the best mode of treatment is. I’ve been battling depression and anxiety for 16 years (half my life) and nothing has helped. I’ve just resigned to the fact that maybe this is how I will always feel. Hopefully I can get some help through these videos.
Thank you Mrs. Mcadam. I like your approach, I have major PSTD along with childhood abuse. I need to find someone who specialises in that field, and in the meantime you have been a huge asset in dealing with stress, depression etc. Thank you.
I have spent my life studying factors about my depression. Though I have addressed food, sleep, thinking patterns, social dynamics, self-esteem, assertiveness, etc... I still take that 1 pill every day. How long my neurochemistry will depend on medication to function normally has been a big question. To say that the depression no long bothers me is also saying that I can function normally so long as I take a pill. When I hear people say that depression is not permanent, I would like to think that taking the medication will, one day, not be required to be well. Without the pill, the depression has been present.
i'm happy there was no neoliberal "just do it" conditioning b.s talking in the first video so far. It was a sincere talk, showing and caring. + this lady has a wonderful calming voice. One thing that really helped me was taking fish oil supplements. I remember telling the doctor who prescribed antidepressants that fish oil (which I started taking for my heart) improved my mood tremendously. She responded that this was well documented, and I then wondered why she hadn't recommended it in addition to medication.
I cant afford a therapist at this time so thank you for your videos. Im a lil better than last year 😊 i wish i can find a therapist like you I feel calm when i watch your vids. It also gives hope
Im reading lots of different opinions of what works and what dose not in the comments. My opinion is that different things help different people and it is about researching your options and finding what works for you.
I would agree with this, there are so many different causes and treatments for depression, people should know their options and then try them until they find what works

I personally benefit from you expertise; the information is also a refresher course on many of the tools that I have used over the years in my practice. I have recommended your videos to clients as homework assignments between sessions. Keep up the great work!

Thank you so much for your videos, Emma! They are very encouraging, give hope, and help me battle depression and anxiety. Love your voice, full of calmness and positivity. Can you please make a video on social phobia? I've got it as well, so I wonder what you have to say about it.

Really glad that I've found it-- thank you for doing such a great job :) It's good to get that message across that there's hope, solutions and different alternatives to deal with depression. I'd really appreciate your advice on what to do when one has lost/is losing hope and just can't get themselves out of bed and start reaching out for those solutions? Thank you.

Incredible,!! Everything happened in the right time, includ find this channel ,I couldn't be more happy today
THANK YOU Emma xxx
waking up with the idea that there's nothing to wake up for is the problem for many. It's easy to come to that conclusion which is why you need to find a reason
I got depression after the birth of my son. He is 30 and I have had a rough go. Tried everything!😩
Denise Younger it’s about the stories we tell ourselves.
Very true I treat my own self and was living with it for years
I like your comment. But how to treat urself?
God bless
Thank you for this video. I feel much better knowing that there's a light at the end of this tunnel
Thank you for everything you do, you’re saving lives
Thank you! You're incredible and your videos are very helpful. Many thanks and lots of love! Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude!
You might have changed my day year and rest of my life.
You know these short videos can give some great advice
Depression is the only medical condition involving an organ where the organ isn’t regularly looked at through scans. You talk to a psychiatrist for 20 minutes, they tell you you’re depressed, and you walk out with an Rx. I really wish doctors would start actually looking at peoples brains to figure out the best mode of treatment is. I’ve been battling depression and anxiety for 16 years (half my life) and nothing has helped. I’ve just resigned to the fact that maybe this is how I will always feel. Hopefully I can get some help through these videos.
read The Body Keeps a Score, I found it so useful :)
I noted important things she said on paper to rethink later and im exicted to keep watching her next videos. greetings from a guy in Istanbul who cant afford therapy haha.
I like her. She makes me feel safe ☺️
Emma is an Angel💗
Very well spoken. Symptoms get managed. Not a LABEL to wear for life! Thank you

Depression can lie, but it’s not permanent. With support and treatment, healing is possible. 💚✨
Thank you so much for this video and all the info it provides to all who suffer.
One thing that really helped me was taking fish oil supplements. I remember telling the doctor who prescribed antidepressants that fish oil (which I started taking for my heart) improved my mood tremendously. She responded that this was well documented, and I then wondered why she hadn't recommended it in addition to medication.
Very true ,I told me doctor about some supplements for depression and he said that won't help ,but the antidepressants don't cure
I cant afford a therapist at this time so thank you for your videos. Im a lil better than last year 😊 i wish i can find a therapist like you I feel calm when i watch your vids. It also gives hope
Awesome und very true words. Keep up doing this wonderful work. Greetings, Liz
Im reading lots of different opinions of what works and what dose not in the comments. My opinion is that different things help different people and it is about researching your options and finding what works for you.
I would agree with this, there are so many different causes and treatments for depression, people should know their options and then try them until they find what works
Emma- Thank you so much for your great videos on a number of topics. I am a mental health therapist. I personally benefit from you expertise; the information is also a refresher course on many of the tools that I have used over the years in my practice. I have recommended your videos to clients as homework assignments between sessions. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Emma, I m grateful for your videos. I'm learning so I can treat others by changing thinking through conversational hypnosis.
Oh my god thank you, I get so sick of this chemical imbalance mindset. It's not necessarily wrong but man does it not help depressed people at all. Very epic video
Emma I thank you from the bottom of my heart❤❤❤
I have mental illness. It doesn't have me. True to myself no matter what.

Can you please make a video on social phobia? I've got it as well, so I wonder what you have to say about it.
Thank you

Can you do a video on psycho somatic pain. Is it depression, stress, anxiety, all three? Can you have depression and anxiety together. Thank you, love your videos, keep up the great work.
DonnaSides, Meditation is the best way to be relaxed and handle depression because the mind is reprogrammed. Watch "Alternate nostril breathing meditation videos " on Google search and do the simple meditation for 10 minutes twice day. Read the benefits of alternate nostril meditation on Google. You can even sit on a chair and do the above meditation. Make it a habit. Best wishes--Shyaaam -Life coach
Genius!thanx for sharing.Got some grips to fight back.Angel from above.Said everything to the point !
I only came across your channel yesterday and already subscribed! Thank you.
I'm the same way right now. I'm too miserable to do what I need to do all the time, but if I don't do anything, my problems are only going to get worse. I really hope I can find a way out.
