Maybe it's just where I was in my life when this game released, but I remember loving the cutscenes. The goofy dialogue and Saturday morning cartoon vibes just amused me and made me excited to see what came next. Plus Eggman teaming up with Sonic and Tails for the bulk of the adventure was a pretty unique concept. It'd be cool for a future Sonic story to provide a balance between the wit/attitude of Lost World and the high stakes/more serious moments of Frontiers.
I can agree to an extent, it would be interesting to see the sequel to frontiers find that balance between seriousness and comedy. I think the IDW comics do a pretty good job of that already actually so maybe they can take some inspiration from there for the next game
I played the 3DS Version of Lost World when I was a kid and it is to this day my favourite Sonic Game. I don't think it's the best, but still my favourite.

@@JonathanAllen191 I guess I just really like how 3D Lost world levels can be. Most of the 3D in colors are very linear hallways with one of the sole exceptions being climbing that tower in the later level of Starlight Carnival.
I clearly agree with you! I like Colors but they used the Boost formula with it while making us doing lots more 2D precise plate forming which... Just doesn't fit and is kinda frustrating as you naturally wants to find the speed from Unleashed. Lost World meanwhile designed it's gameplay around the slower speed which makes it feel more natural! Once you understand how it works ^^'. I really enjoy *Sonic Lost World* as both a game and an experience. The only real issue I have with it-which I think is fair to mention-is that it feels like a *Mario Galaxy* clone in many ways. Coming from someone who’s not a Mario fan, I can still acknowledge that point. That said, I still have a great time with it. The gameplay is fun, the parkour system is innovative, and while the story isn’t groundbreaking, it has some genuinely funny moments, and the voice acting is phenomenal. As for the Deadly Six, I’m not a big fan of them in this game because their personalities are limited to single traits that are often used as punchlines. However, their designs are great, and they’re voiced well. Given that this game leans heavily into comedy, their simple personalities do work in context. Still, I much prefer their portrayal in the IDW comics, where they’re given more depth. Overall, I think the game is solid, and I really enjoy it. I even bought a Wii U just to play it and own it physically because I value physical media. On another note, my team and I are working on a Sonic cartoon that blends comedy and seriousness in its narratives. If you’re curious and want to know more, feel free to ask-I’d be happy to share. Also, great job on this video-keep up the awesome work!
What bothers me about the main criticisms of Lost World being as varied as a Mario game, is that it's okay when Mario does it, people clap. But when Sonic tries to have gameplay variation. Sin! I like Lost World's gameplay a lot.
That's actually a good point, and people will bring up similar criticism against the other characters in the Sonic Adventure games or the Werehog in Unleashed despite those all still being fun.
My problem with the story of Lost World is that unlike where Colors while cheesy and bit cringe still feels charming and complaints the theme park. Here I think it ruins it due to the unknown nature of the Lost Hex. As we the players have no real sense of the world, unlike Colors which shows the world that’s creative and breathtaking. Especially with Planet Wisp.
I have been defending this game since the beginning also. I was sick of the boost formula when this released and am a sucker for slower paced platforming so this was PERFECT for me. I love the strange arching homing attack, I love the kick attack and how you can pummel multiple enemies at once...I love the parkour. I love the way the spin dash feels. I never want to non genuine in order to make a certain point in any of my videos, I think it’s important to critique the things you don’t enjoy in the things you love. If you do end up playing the game I hope you end up enjoying it yourself!
is there anywhere I can go to learn more about the tech in this game? I beat it recently on my Wii U and your review is basically the one I resonate with the most. I'm enjoying myself more and more the more I play through the levels again, even the ones I disliked at first.
I'm someone who likes a lot and most of Sonic games, Colors, Unleashed, Sonic 4 Episode II, Riders, Zero Gravity, Heroes, etc. Or at least I can say something positive about almost every single one, even the ones I dislike. Lost World is definetly among those I enjoy, I think it's a cozy and comfortable adventure with really fun level design, the parkour mechanics are really cool and the planetoid gimmick works really well and it looks like it was intended for the game to begin with, because of how you can just from one planetoid to another and different planets are different routes, I definetly think Lost World is a cool game I think of the 2000s games and 2010s games as "if I want a immersive huge adventure I play the 2000s games, if I want a cozy game to spend 2 hours only, I play the 2010s games"
Something important to note that I don't think enough people know of, no, Sonic Team didn't just leave the boost gameplay for no reason. There was actually a reason given in an interview by Iizuka back in 2013. The reason they went with the Lost World gameplay is due to the fact they themselves didn't know how to innovate on the Boost gameplay for the foreseeable future (And it shows through Forces and Cyberspace). They likely wanted to build up a more stable gameplay style since they were effectively burned out on the boost.
Alright I've been influenced. I'll give this game another shot. Would you mind making or linking a tutorial on the game's more in-depth mechanics? (Side note: this video was REALL well-made, you deserve way more subscribers)
Good video, I’ve tried this game multiple times. Unfortunately for me it hurts my hands after while always holding down the run button. Which is weird cuz this is the only game I’ve had do that. I’ve beaten the 3ds version. That was ok. Even though I’m not a fan of this game one day I will beat it but this was a good video. Also funny that you mention charge homing on last boss cuz I did the dlc before beating the game and was stuck for while lol
I actually never played the 3DS version, one of the only Sonic games I haven't played. I should probably change that at some point. Thanks for watching!
The only thing I Lost in this World, was sanity when switching from one Japanese game of Devil May Cry 5 to Sonic Frontiers + Learning about Blaze & Sonic being complementary opposites... **Wait a minute** This is not just a Sonic & Blaze dynamic Its just... *DANTE & BAYONETTA?!?!?!?!?!!?* _SAVIOR_ _BLUESTAIN_ _SOLFIRE_ *year of Shadow* _HEAVEN ON A LANDSLIDE_
I mean i grew up with the og games, played and completed every damn game since and i have no idea what people are complaining about with this game. In fact the only two games i understand the hate for are sonic 06 and sonic forces both of which were clearly rushed out the gate. I still enjoyed them both though, sonic 06 was just like the adventure games but broken so it was still enjoyable once all the glitches and damn hyperspeed sections were ignored, and forces was just boring and easy. But sonic lost worlds was good fun and refreshing change of pace
Honestly this is one of the only Sonic games where I can say it was actually pretty good all the way through. It has its gimmicks but they don't last half a game like games like Unleashed, Generations or even the Adventure games, Heroes and 06 which were almost 80% gimmicks. Lost World is like Expert mode in Shadow the Hedgehog. A pretty darn solid time.
While I do appreciate the more gimmicky elements in all of those other games you mentioned, I can agree that I appreciate lost world for being a bit more consistent the whole way through
This is one of the few sonic games I’ve played. I really liked it during the first half of the game but it started losing me in the second half. I still beat it, but I thought the first half of the game was a lot better. I have also played Sonic Boom fire and ice and despite the boom branding, it’s a really great game
Personally as a long time fan of Sonic, I actually enjoyed Sonic Lost World (I played the PC port), and if I had a Wii U at launch I'd probably still enjoy the game even with needing 5000 Flickies to get to the last level since in the Wii U getting 5 Red Rings in a zone opens a circus tent where you can get a bunch of Flickies, I'm disappointed there's no mod that adds the circus tents back in. It's nice seeing more people who enjoy Sonic Lost World. As far as story goes, I actually kinda like it personally, if there's problems I had with it though it's the pacing, I like the idea of Tails having a brief falling out since Sonic and Tails don't really fight (I don't mean battle each other since that's happened before a few times), the reason why it doesn't work for me in this game is because Tails goes from being okay with having Eggman join them to "You trust Eggman more, do you know how much that bites?" After 1 level, like maybe insert some cutscenes where Sonic agrees with Eggman or thinks he has a point and Tails' conflict would feel more justified. There's also no tension on Tails being turned into a robot since they show him immediately tinkering with the Roboticizer instead of showing a flashback, which they got right with Dr. Eggman. But nonetheless I actually think the story is enjoyable, and I actually like the Deadly Six as I think they're fun villains. This game doesn't make my top 5 or top 10 favorite Sonic games in the series, but I like it. I have no opinion on the 3DS version since I haven't played it yet, but I think the bosses in that version are better based on what I've seen in gameplay footage.
FINALLY! I also love it, the Lost World vibes match the classic Genesis trilogy so greatly and that's what Sonic's all about imo. I really like the gameplay as well (although I think ditching the tubular designs would make it even better). I'm just not a big fan of the Deadly Six
The Deadly Six are good fun villains, the hate towards them is completely ridiculous. Yes the other than Zik and Zavok the members have face value personalities, but that's part if their charm. They really lean into them all the way and they're just fun simple villains all around. I love hearing Zazz say insanely dark things to Sonic or Zomom calling out Eggman when he calls him fat. Zavok especially out of all them has a great personality and is a good villain. Dude was genuinely threatening and wanted to destroy the world to just get back at Eggman for enslaving them, Sonic was more of a nuisance just in the way. But obviously that built up and he became their enemy just as much as Eggman, Zavok wanted to mentally destroy Sonic before physically doing so. Killing his world and friends, turning his best friend into a robot to kill him with, even seemingly taking out Eggman so Sonic really was all alone. He's ruthless and definitely a force to be reckoned with, dude even takes on Sonic with his bare hands. He is in no way some boring lame villain or a "Bowser rip off" like the only similarity he has with Bowser is his wrist bands lol. He's a great villain and I'm glad Sega/Sonic Team hasn't just thrown these guys out.
This guys a FRAUD he doesn’t have ANY of the achievements, how do we expect him to have good opinions if he hasn’t done EVERYTHING the game has to offer? Smh Fraudathan Allen.
@@kowa7721I actually was planning on making a video about the whole trilogy last year until complications came up, I may get back around to it at some point but I can’t make any promises as of right now
Looking back I'd never admit saying this long ago, but I agree with all of the criticism backlash this game got as a good thing since Sega learned from how people felt about this game, which is probably the reason frontiers got everything right. Had this game received praise, sega would have tripped over backwards trying to make a follow-up game that could've been even worse with a corporate attitude that would suck. However, I love this game. It felt like it was a passion project made specifically for the fans who grew up since the beginning, not to those who prefer the classics but the people who stuck through it all good and bad. Lost World would have been better off if Sonic and the deadly six were the only characters in the entire game. Which means while sacrificing eggman and tails who had good moments, it would of made sonic team try a lot harder in making a good story instead of including knuckles and amy as fanservice and making eggman and tails less likable characters.
It definitely would've been interesting to see the Deadly Six as actually fleshed out characters. But I don't think that has to come at the cost of removing Eggman and Tails entirely, I already like Eggman in this story but it would've been nice to see Tails much more fleshed out as well
I Agree With You :D I Honestly Hate NO Sonic Games I never played a few tho but i really dont think none is bad lost world ds is cool and i know lost world wii u is awesome when i was a kid
My takeaway from this video is that every single Sonic game on earth is good, if you learn the mechanics, And if you dont like any of them, its probably a skill issue.
This game came out at the worst time though. Sonic Team had finally gotten trust back as they released Colours and Generations. Then they release Lost World which was just not on the level of those games at all and not even close.
I 100% this game back on the Wii U when it came out. But man was it a slog. This really is one of my least favorites of the series with my playing Mario 3D World over it the vast majority of the time just to push off beating it. Still not the worst in the series though; that definitely goes to Secret Rings. Man that game is a dumpster fire.
Lost World is the exact opposite of Sonic Adventure 2: SA2 Has a huge ambitious (and bad) story SLW Has some fun cutscenes to make you laught and very little else SA2 Has ***realistic*** ambients and levels SLW Has *abstract* and *mistical* stages with wacky colours and shapes SA2 Has a lot of playable characters (who all suck) SLW Has just Sonic Sonic fans are so nostalgia blinded that if they don't see any of those characteristics in a Sonic game it automatically means that the game sucks and sega should be ashamed.
That’s an interesting way to look at for sure. I personally actually prefer adventure 2 overall but both games are still great, just for different reasons. Thanks for watching!
The "Japan doesn't seem to know wut a cyborg is" part doesn't make sense to me cus LW was written entirely by americans. The only part that was by ST was not simply the INCLUSION of the Zeti. On top of that u use DB but they're 'jinzouningen' which literally translates to 'Artificial-human' & even in eng they're called Androids(which isn't accurate to the original but) not Cyborgs.
Regardless of who wrote the game, Sonic is still a Japanese IP. And the main joke is that Android 17 and 18 are called Androids when they were human's partially converted into robots making them Cyborgs. I wasn't aware of the japanase name of them though so that's on me.
@@JonathanAllen191 But u can't blame ST since they had no control over the story tho. Pontac & Graff had near full control so they wouldn't have any input to put it in or change it. The blame is purely placed incorrectly here
Not underrated, but extremely overhated. Sonic lost world is a fine competent platformer that does not try to be a sonic game instead going for generic mass appeal and boring but easy and varied levels. It's alright
i feel like lost world is the anti sonic adventure 2. its the sequel to the game that started this new era (colors). eggman and sonic team up to defeat a greater goo, but everything else is opposite. very small cast of charecters. new charecters introduced are forgettable and lame. the gameplay scraps the prequel and decided to do something new for the worse.
@JonathanAllen191 zavok is my favourite charecter ever, my whole room is plastered with his face, I modded all the sonic games to be zavok games #zavoknationrise
Ok, cap, sonic unleashed didnt stop the downward spiral of the franchise, it added to it. Idk why so many fans like that game now, but its crap and it ran lile crap on og hardware. Nice vid, but nah, thats cap, sonic unleashed was hated until quite recently. I know it gets love but IT WAS A MEME about sonic being a werehog. In fact the werehog bevame the face of how sega lost what was so special about the series and just kept changing the gameplay style on each entry.
I have to say it, for me the worst sonic story... is colors. Lost world and forces are at least entertainingly bad, colors is just boring. Basily just sonic telling bad jokes to either tails or a boss robot that does not even react to it
My favourite part was when Sonic lost his world and then wasn't able to find it for the rest of the game
My favorite part was when Zavok said it was “Zavok time” and then Zavoked all over those guys! Thanks for watching man!

They likely wanted to build up a more stable gameplay style since they were effectively burned out on the boost.
Alright I've been influenced. I'll give this game another shot. Would you mind making or linking a tutorial on the game's more in-depth mechanics?
(Side note: this video was REALL well-made, you deserve way more subscribers)
now i kinda want to play it, especially thanks your channel & the comics
I'd definitely say give it a shot! It goes on sale on steam very frequently if that option is available to you!
7:38 😂😂😂😂 you're not wrong though..
I've tried to sit down and go through lost world a few times, but I can just never keep interested until the end for some reason.
I want to play the Wii U one. Only played Lost World 3DS and i love it.
The only thing I Lost in this World, was sanity when switching from one Japanese game of Devil May Cry 5 to Sonic Frontiers + Learning about Blaze & Sonic being complementary opposites...
**Wait a minute**
This is not just a Sonic & Blaze dynamic
Its just...

I can agree with that, the story has a lot of interesting ideas in theory, they were just all executed rather poorly which is unfortunate
Great Video
Thanks for watching!
i strongly disagree
@@JustMaxT Zavok disagrees with your disagreement
FINALLY! I also love it, the Lost World vibes match the classic Genesis trilogy so greatly and that's what Sonic's all about imo.
I really like the gameplay as well (although I think ditching the tubular designs would make it even better). I'm just not a big fan of the Deadly Six
I'm honestly genuinely curious if anyone IS a fan of the deadly six
Never let him cook🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥
NOOOOOOOOO DON'T INFORM THE PEOPLE PLZZZZZZZZZZZZ
OMG SOMEONE FINALLY YAPS ABOUT LOST WORLD WITHOUT GIVIN SMACK LEZ GOOOOO 🗣🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It had to be done 😤
@JonathanAllen191 you did the right thing Sargeant 🫡
Don't let Pariah see this...
14:27 facts!
The parkour system should be expanded upon
I like that they kinda brought it back with Frontiers but I hope that in the next game they let sonic climb more than just those green walls
@@JonathanAllen191 didnt know because i been abscent from sonic since sonic Rush lol but recently played mania
The goat is back!
Also I dare you to make a spark the electric jester 3 video
But I don't think that has to come at the cost of removing Eggman and Tails entirely, I already like Eggman in this story but it would've been nice to see Tails much more fleshed out as well
Thoughts on Sonic lost world 3ds?
@@Cloud48004 never played it, probably should one day
I agree! I love the gameplay! But the story is just entertaining but not good either-
I cannot understand why they didn't give a tutorial on how to do the infinite spin dash and how to parkour properly, literally killed the game.
THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING!! More people would've liked this game if they just explained how stuff worked
I enjoyed what I've played of the WiiU/PC version of this game. The 3DS version is my mortal enemy though.
Haven't played the 3DS version but I've heard horror stories
0:51 dude...zero gravity was good..
sonic lost world having glazers is CRAZY
I Agree With You :D
I Honestly Hate NO Sonic Games I never played a few tho but i really dont think none is bad lost world ds is cool and i know lost world wii u is awesome when i was a kid
My takeaway from this video is that every single Sonic game on earth is good, if you learn the mechanics,
And if you dont like any of them, its probably a skill issue.
Oh, you’re one of …them” 😒 lol
😃
This game came out at the worst time though. Sonic Team had finally gotten trust back as they released Colours and Generations. Then they release Lost World which was just not on the level of those games at all and not even close.
I love Lost World!!!!!
Me too!!!!!
Who is this World, and how did Sonic lose it?
We may never know
Ya know, I thought I’d like the video until I noticed there was ZERO mention of pinball… what a fraud…
Who needs pinball when Zavok!
@@JonathanAllen191 MEEEEEEEEEE
Yeah. It's cute.
Omg you get it
play spark the electric jester 3 its an amazing indie game inspired by the sonic adventure games
I've actually played all 3 Spark games! All are pretty fun especially the third game!
Nice Video ! Sub & Big Like ! And Love Sonic Games !
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Sonic Generations the masterpiece that has worse graphics, level design and story than Sonic Unleashed as well as less speed.
I think it has way better level design personally.
Lost World is the exact opposite of Sonic Adventure 2:
SA2 Has a huge ambitious (and bad) story
SLW Has some fun cutscenes to make you laught and very little else
SA2 Has ***realistic*** ambients and levels
SLW Has *abstract* and *mistical* stages with wacky colours and shapes
SA2 Has a lot of playable characters (who all suck)
SLW Has just Sonic
Sonic fans are so nostalgia blinded that if they don't see any of those characteristics in a Sonic game it automatically means that the game sucks and sega should be ashamed.
That’s an interesting way to look at for sure. I personally actually prefer adventure 2 overall but both games are still great, just for different reasons. Thanks for watching!
I like zeena
I like Zavok
The PC/Wii U version is ok I guess but the 3DS version is one of the worst games I have ever played.
I've heard horror stories...
Nah.
Give me more boost formula
Sonic Lost world is better than SA2

What are you talk about are they call androids?
i feel like lost world is the anti sonic adventure 2.
its the sequel to the game that started this new era (colors).
eggman and sonic team up to defeat a greater goo, but everything else is opposite.
very small cast of charecters.
new charecters introduced are forgettable and lame.
the gameplay scraps the prequel and decided to do something new for the worse.
That's an interesting way to look at it for sure! And Zavok is basically just like Shadow!.....yeah......the people love Zavok.....probably....
It's plain for me
I thought sonic unleashed was great
Just the werewolf part were pretty boring after a while. And those stages are like 20+ minutoes sometimes! Too much
This is cap! Sonic Blast and Sonic Jam (gamecom) are the only good Sonic Games.
Overrated*
I've never seen anyone overestimate Lost World
I have to say it, for me the worst sonic story... is colors. Lost world and forces are at least entertainingly bad, colors is just boring. Basily just sonic telling bad jokes to either tails or a boss robot that does not even react to it
first lfg
Lol I appreciate it man
I RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE WITH YOU, THIS GAME TRASH 💯💯💯! BE BETTER 🔥🔥🔥
