Yes, you can use gala, or pink ladies. You want an apple that is sweet and tart. You can certainly use lard in place of the butter. Please send me pictures, I want to see your version! Happy Holidays to you!
Hi. So I finally made the filling today using Granny Smith and Honey Crisp apples. I had Pumpkin Spice not Apple Pie Spice so I made some from scratch. I had no lemon so I used lemon juice and the zest of an orange. The filling is so delicious! Tomorrow I will make the dough and assemble them. I'll send you a photo. Thanks Heath
@@scruffybehr I apologize for the confusion. I used 2 Granny Smith. You can add or take away one, it won’t affect the recipe. You can certainly swap orange zest, and whatever lemon juice you have is fine. If it is the juice in a bottle, I would scale it back a bit. I would love to see your final product!!
I have to say, that’s the best apple pie I’ve ever had. DELICIOUS! I’m wondering if you’ve tried to store the dough in the fridge (for like a week) or if it’s freezer friendly? FYI, for those of you who don’t want to roll it measure out 65g for each dough ball and use your tortilla press! Super easy :)
Do you have a recipe for Prune Pie or Empanaditas from start to finish for us beginners who would like to learn how you cook the prunes, etc etc. NM desserts are like no other and those of us in the younger generation are interested in learning how to bake/cook.
