- I set a mate of mine a challenge, buy the cheapest diesel heater on ebay for me to install and review. This is what we ended up with. The heater is good but the tank is rubbish so we replaced that and ended up with a very economical system. If your brand new to diesel heaters, check this video out. If you know a bit about them you can comment on all the things i did wrong. haha.
Another great DIY video for A Jayco van. I have the identical model Expanda. We had a gas heater fitted. The unit is installed under the fridge, one duct runs concealed and comes our where you put yours (I also have dual batteries - there is enough room for it all surprisingly), the other runs concealed (under the cupboard to the right of the fridge) and comes out just the other side of the curtain (so you can also warm up the back area). The controller is mounted on the panel between the fridge and slide out (and the slide out clears it just). Easy to see and reach and importantly the thermostat is also mounted there (and not tucked away in a cupboard somewhere). Keep the video's coming.
i have fitted a few of these there should be some black fuel hose with the kit that you use to join the fuel line to filter and pump and heater, and exhaust should be on a slight down wood angle straight as possible i have found the best for performance

I haven’t fitted my heater yet, my research says from the pump to the heater you need to use the hard fuel line so it injects properly.

dash you do a great job buddy, but it’s not wise to put the controller in the cupboard, the temp sensor will not get a true reading, yes I know you said when operating the heater leave the cupboard door open, buddy not good enough, it’s not a problem to find an appropriate spot to have the controller.
@@bruceanderson5618 having it in the cupboard doesnt really matter. When we put ours in I wasnt sure where to put controller so it lived in the knife and fork draw for about 8weeks. You simply set the heat to what suits you. It may not be the exact heat but its what suits you so correct temp teading is not really important
Missing a lot of important info. Exhaust pipe, air intake, electrical connects, protection for fuel line, sealing base plate. a few more details
I think putting the exhaust over the top of those wires is going to become an issue. I’m not sure exactly how hot the exhaust gets but I know on the one I use the heat coming out the actual exhaust tip is super hot. I’ve never actually grabbed hold or taken a temp off the actual exhaust pipe itself.

Great video. I installed one of these earlier this year in my Snowy River SR18 after a lot of research. I too have the cheap tank fitted which leaks diesel when driving (through the cap) and has become discoloured already. Can I ask where you found the better quality black tank? Also, the only thing that might cause an issue with this install is the amount of bending in the exhaust tube. Ive read the the exhaust tube cannot have any more than 270 degrees of bends (total) before flow is affected, impacting the burn efficiency of the heater.

Looks like you bouht the model with the all aluminium casing. How do you find it? Any problems at all? Any advantage Vs the all plastic ones?
Fuel line diameter is critical only use the 2mm bore line. The fuel pump is a dose type pump it puts a measured 0.2ml of diesel each pulse. The small diameter cause to spurt the diesel into the combustion chamber through an atomising screen.the spurting aids on atomisation with a bigger fuel line diesel flows reducing atomisation and will cause carbonisation of in it quicker
i was thinking of using a portable unit in the cupboard dropping the exhaust down through the floor putting a metal flange around the piping.open the door when its running .
This fish tank plastic hose is not much good 1st it will go soft in the heat 2nd Its too soft to cable tie unless it in another harder tube 3rd if the pipe is soft , the pump may lose pressure with soft tubing, from expanding and then contracting of the tubing And the unit should be hard wired to the battery so it can not be turned off when at high temp by mistake
Laying that exhaust over top of all those wires is a recipe for disaster.

Your exhaust is not correctly installed. will build up water in the bends, need wee hole at lowest point.
Why not just buy a plastic diesel Jerry can and you can just use a Jerry can holder to mount it?
If they can't make a decent fuel container I would not trust them to manufacture a safe heater. I hope this works well for you and your friend.

I don,t think the Y62 are strong as a GQ i have a GQ with a LS1 V8 will go any where with spare grunt with a Detriot locker up front .
and tiight rear LSD i just love it ,it also has a 3 inch stainless exhaust sounds just great.

I fitted one in my Starcraft about six months ago and have a diesel smell on start up for about five minutes

They need to run for about 10 hrs to burn all the smells out of it. Have you ran it for that long yet?
You have chucked away the right fuel line and exchanged it with the wrong bore for the pump.
You should never mount the diesel fuel tank on the back of your Trailer ... your trailer gets rear ended by another vehicle and Ka Blooey , fire ..
I hope that hose you got is fuel rated!!!! If not then you need to replace it with actual fuel line!!
How loud is it inside the caravan when its running?

Yeah you lost me at controller in the cupboard, and using soft nylon water hose.
Pretty sure that hose you got from mitre 10 isn't resistant to diesel, I would replace it with proper fuel line from Supercheap or Paramount Browns, or keep a smoke alarm in your caravan.

Ok so you threw away good hose because you dont know how to use it and switched for much worse. Please read some manuals before stating such things. Also the tanks are not crap you are just using it wrong again.
$250 for your heater you mentioned. A good branded one is about $1,250. I probably would have negotiated $1,000 off your $50K van or your $100K Patrol instead and put the money into the quality heater. Good educational video and appreciated but I worry about the "what ifs" of installing cheap Chinese heaters......remember those cheap hover boards?

These heaters are cheap because they are tried and test and now mass produced. They are the majority of space heaters installed in Caravans world wide. You can go pay $2k for the same thing from a different company if you really desire but in this instance price isn't indicative of quality or safety.
$250 diesel heater, 3 years later still pumping out nice hot air.

I could be wrong but I think that initial S that he has in the exhaust is going to be where condensation collects and begins to restrict the exhaust. After a while the unit will begin to throw error codes because of this, I hear this is a common mistake when installing. The whole point of the weep hole in the muffler is so that the line runs on a consistent downward slant to the muffler so all the condensation drains.
