I just watched your botanicaz video and seen them ship them....great video!! love um all. Im gonna have a warehouse one day!! Thanks for all your work HG!
I have sold over 300 plants from home and made decent money I am disabled and this gives me extra cash, I don’t see anything wrong with it , I do work hard to grow these plants….
i had no idea that people shamed others for SELLING PLANTS? what's wrong w it? if you dont like people selling plants from cuttings then dont buy from them.
@@sherryporsch9349 hi sherry yea I sell on fb market place locally I don’t ship it’s very hard for me, so it’s pick up only and it sells very quick give it a try….goodluck let me know if I can help you in anyway..
I am a beginner to houseplants and this is such a good way for me to buy and grow my collection. Whenever I look at stores or online shops, it's out of my budget. Being able to buy a couple of cuttings or even from people sell for cheap on the purge posts just works better for my pocket.
I've started doing this, and honestly I've given away as many as I've sold 😅 Some plants grow so fast, it's worth sharing with people who are as passionate about plants as we are! lol! I'm excited to see the selling options, and I definitely would love to see a "how to ship" video!
I totally agree with sharing! My area has a small plant community that does plant swaps or gives plants away for free. I've gotten some really neat plants for free and given away as well! It's just so much fun!
The people doing the shaming are just upset that the prices are going crazy. No one is forced to buy a plant at a price they feel is too much. Every uncommon plant I own has literally paid for itself and then some from me propagating it. My best one to date was a Variegated Florida Beauty, I paid $140 for the plant and the following year I put a single leaf cutting on eBay and started it $50. It sold for $370....I gave her an extra cutting because I felt it was too high, lol.
I’m becoming a big fan of the auction type selling too. I recently brought a bunch of cuttings an a couple slightly uncommon plants (scindapsus/treubii and hoya) back to my hometown and auctioned everything. I think the highest starting bid was $10 and only two had a reserve to cover costs (otherwise no reserve) and I made almost $430 and donated it all to a local dog rescue. I feel much better with a reasonable list price and letting the the buyers decide what they will pay.
This is such perfect timing, I'm a week in to finally starting to sell from some of my collection after years of having plants! I've had to stop working recently due to serious mental health issues and I ain't feeling bad for making a little rent (and plant 😂) money from my own personal collection that I've cared and tended to for so long!
Cuttings were a great way for me to start out and learn. It wasn’t expensive if I lost one when learning to care for it. I would like to see an update on how you ship plants. I would also be interested to know what plants are the most popular and how you go about pricing them please.
Everyone has an opinion and social media has made people very bold. It doesn’t matter what they think. I came here specifically to find out how I can sell my clippings because I’m in a temporary living situation and I have limited space to add more plants and my babies are growing like crazy. So there are some of us that this makes perfect sense to. 😊
If people want to shame others for selling plants, plant cuttings, seeds, etc. they need to stop going to Lowes, Home Depot, plant nurseries, and garden centers. I mean, what's the difference in buying from a huge brand or buying from an individual? They are still buying plants from a seller. So, to all the haters and shamers out there, go get a life.
I just joined a really active local purge group and it’s opened up a whole new world for me! There are sooo many people near me who are buying, selling, swapping, or just talking plants, it’s very cool! They even have “free Fridays,” where people can post if they have stuff to give away, great for people just starting out.
This is exactly what I do! I prop, sell, and save up for plants that would otherwise be too much right now. Selling cuttings helps me not wreck my budget! 😅
I appreciate people who sell cuttings. I don’t have a lot of space in my house. Small plants equals more diversity in my limited space. Plus, I get to watch my new plant baby grow.
What's considered over price? To be honest a lot of plants are "overpriced". Like pink princess when the true value of growing the plant is only about $4... but because of supply demand, it went up. I think as long as they are selling at market value, that's fair enough. Selling cutting shouldn't be judged since acquiring plants can be expensive and selling a piece of it can help off set the cost of owning one is fair.
I’ll start by saying that I’ve never sold a plant. However, in my opinion I could care less if someone wants to try and sell their plants for an astronomical price. If someone else is willing to purchase it, that’s on them right? So long as people are willing to pay, the prices will never go down. It just comes down to knowing your means and being happy with what you have and being happy for the people whose means may look different from yours. I’ve waited years for certain plants because their price point wasn’t in my budget. Makes it all the sweeter when you do snag that wishlist plant :)
I sold tons of plants on offer up!!! I sold my fiddle leaf fig tree because I was moving and couldn’t bring it, I made a snazzy profit!!! Really made me realize I could make some money doing this
Another way is look for local plant swaps . This has been such an awesome way for me to get plants I want and trade plants I already have extras of . And you make new friends and get to geek out on plants. Local swaps are my favorite
I'm glad you made this video and put it out there that's it's ok to sell plants/cuttings. I personally prefer the challenge of having a small cutting and watching it grow. I don't like to buy full, huge plants. Love it!
I don't where that mindset comes from either. The mother plant usually cost the owner money, along with pots, soil, fertilizer, etc. Why should the seller not sell something of value? And the selling thru Paypal protects the seller and the buyer. A tracking # provides proof the item was received.
Yes yes yes! HOW TO SHIP PLANTS PLS!! I love this video! Thank you for making it! Loved this! Sold a plant last week and as the girl was walking away I was tempted to call her back and question how she was gonna care for it...I know... I’m attached! 🤷♀️
I've thought about selling myself too. I sometimes wonder when I give plants away, if the person is going to give the plant a good home. I have 2 gift plants at the moment and occasionally I will text the person that gave then to me, pics of the plant to show them I'm taking good care of their babies. 😁

Great video Harli. I'm about to start selling on Etsy. Love the individually plants in cups in the prop box. Great idea, I'm definitely going to use that one. Thank you for sharing these tips. Not many people want to share how to get started to keep the competition down. You are fabulous.❤️

Omg pink looks so good on you!!!!!! But yea I keep thinking of selling plants but I’m just so attached. Plus I feel better gifting people I know b/c I love the smile on their face and knowing they have something I love whenever I go to their house. That being said, I don’t judge anyone who does sell them. I probably will once I’ve had plants longer and start buying more expensive plants
I just came to terms with the fact that I'm going to HAVE to do this in order to keep some of my plants small enough for my current living space 🙃 bittersweet, let the hustle begin
I think there's some legalities here that are important. Technically in some states you need to be a legal/certified grower to sell anything. Selling a copyrighted plant is illegal. And I'd think on Etsy you'd need to be a legal business that takes taxes, etc. Just some food for thought. :)
You’re absolutely correct. I have an Etsy store, and I can tell you, it varies from state to state. I’m in NJ, and all I had to do was get a tax id, business registration, etc. The good thing is, Etsy will tell you everything you need. It’s very user-friendly.
I recently had my first plant sales and delivered them , everyone was So happy my prices were low - I actually felt guilty asking for a lot . But it was a great start - nothing wrong with it I’ve purchased most of my plants off Etsy tfs
You do you, I don't understand why people care or bother others like this. Good for you and you should always be rewarded for your efforts and not feel guilty or shamed for pursuing your skills and what you love and God forbid perhaps be paid for it!
I really enjoy your videos. I think selling plants from propagation is an awesome idea. I did make an etsy shop, but didn't have much success. I really like the idea of staying local, do you have more tips to share on that?
I have learned so much from you. I have a handful of props recently repotted in soil and now moving on to creating more prop boxes for second batch of cuttings. This video was so timely, as it gave me the directions and encouragement to post on fb... and the confidence to sell on purge groups I am part of... eeek... I can't wait to continue the cycle of my plant habit!!! And get some wishlist plants. Ty Harli ♡♡♡
Buying plants from private parties is a good idea , they are usually taken better care of , established and most likely cheaper than plant stores or maybe trade with others... my family comes to me when they want new plants I always propagate most of my plants, just to keep that plant going
Wow, I had no idea people shame others for selling plants. Lol. That’s just stupid. We go to garden centers and nurseries to buy plants that were once seeds or cuttings. So what is the difference if someone is selling theirs....? It’s actually an intelligent way to profit off your hard work.
Yes what a fantastic way to expand your collection by swapping or selling at a reasonable price for all to enjoy. I have paid or rather probably overpaid for that whish list plant on more than one occasion. Time for me to share what I have, time to chop & prop worst case I will have a bunch more plants if I cant offload them. 😂 LOL Enjoyed this topic immensely. 👍👍👍👍
I sell my props at my local flea market. The one I go to does not require sellers permit but it’s also more of a bargain flea market so people were turned off by my prices. Except tiny pots. Tiny pots sold fast. So I’m in the process of dividing all my 4 inch pots into 2 inch to be able to lower prices. At another flea market in my city I need a sellers permit but it’s also a bougier one with more small business booths so I’d have no problem selling there. We have to find what work for us. 🧡
Nice, glad I don’t use social media, my favorite part of plant growing is propagation, I’ve always sold the hell out of them, proud to do it and make a buck. I wish someone would give me a hard time…
I have been thinking about this .. my collection is now at the point where propagation is necessary. Just took a bunch of cuttings for Christmas presents.
I thought the shaming on selling plant cuttings (rooted or not) was on the people that way way WAY over price the cuttings, which I think is horrible personally, and you do NOT over price your starter plants btw!! Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I thought the shaming was about...
Oh I can definitely see that! I guess I can see where people are coming from, price shaming just kind of makes me cringe especially where it’s not a necessity! If I hate the price, I just don't buy haha
I think some of it is also out concern for newbies on the market! If someone was selling a pilea pepperomides baby for 40 dollars, I'd feel pretty icky if a new plant person bought that. I do understand there's work going into them though!
Plant prices can fluctuate a lot over time and by location, which I think can make it tricky and sticky to try to determine exactly what is and what isn't over priced. Pilea peperomioides were super hard to find 3-4 years ago, and were like $40 a baby. I think it's totally reasonable for the seller to factor in various things like how much they paid for the mama plant, what seems to be the going rate for the plant, and also just like how much they're willing to part with the plant for. People can be attached to their plant babies they propagate, and I don't feel like it's necessarily unethical if someone's amount they're willing to part with their plant baby for is higher than the average market value. I feel like it's also reasonable to expect buyers to google the plant before they buy it to get an idea for it's care and average prices, and make their own informed decision.
@@spiralnerd Fair! It definitely is on the buyer to know the market. But that being said, if your group doesn't have an explicit price shaming rule, I think you should expect to see discourse re: price. I remember the pilea boom, and there is huge regional variation. I also think if you're someone who is really attached to your plants, you should have the dialogue with yourself about selling it. Especially on these big buy/sell/trade groups, where it is business like.
@@ninamicanovic86 Yeah, no I agree that discourse about pricing is totally fair and not a problem. I imagine the decision to list your plants and your pricing would come out of already having had a dialogue with yourself about selling it. I also feel like it's not uncommon for people to be attached to their plants, but need to sell them to pay the bills. Sometimes I see people coming from that place and listing them for cheaper than average because they need them to sell ASAP, and sometimes maybe a little more, because they need the extra cash if they can get it. Idk while I definitely do think there are unethical sellers out there, I also think people can be a little quick to make judgements about a person's ethics based on plant prices, where that might not be super warranted or fair, particularly if all the info they provide about he plant is transparent and accurate, and gives the buyer capacity to make their own informed decision.
I’ve sold via next door and that’s been pretty successful. Keep in mind that I’ve not sold any rare plants or uncommon plants. The everyday cuttings and props are what I’ve experienced selling via next door.
Thanks so much for the info. Keep wanting to do this, just not enough courage . I would like more info., and would love future videos on all aspects of selling. Thanks so much.
Hi Harley 🤚🏽. Thanks for all your knowledge. Your husband built a terrarium correct? Wondering if there is a picture of this. I was telling my husband about it and want him to see it. Let me know if there is something in your videos about this. Congrats on another new family member🙏🏼. God bless
I agree - nothing wrong with selling your home grown plants or cuttings. It is definitely more expensive and time-consuming to grow/propagate plant at home than commercial growing (plants don't grow on air only😏) and often the plants are just in better shape than the commercially bought plants. And from the buyers point - you can get a smaller plant, but probably cheaper, have more space for other plants and have the satisfaction to grow it to mature state. On top of that, the prices of plants from commercial growers have during the last two years gone up several times(!) so no wonder ppl will charge more for their home grown plants. The last thing is however sth unpleasant I observe where I live. Because plant selling has just gone crazy during pandemic, there are unfortunately also dishonest people who cheat on the products. And it is difficult to resolve disputes between private people.
I just want to say, you’re my absolute favorite planty TH-camr! I love watching your videos and I find them very therapeutic haha. Keep it up! Also, I am just starting a plant Instagram and would LOVE any tips you may have!! 💛💛
I’m going to do a FAQ video about prop boxes to cover some of the most common issues I’m seeing people have with them! Hopefully it’ll help 🤞 because once ya get them down, they really are so great’
Thank you for the video, I don’t think you should care about the people criticizing others for selling their plants. Lowe’s, Home Depot, and nurseries sell them, usually with a bigger profit margin... I personally like buying plants and cuttings from regular people, the people tend to be nicer, and the plants too.
Its such a pity we don't have the variety of plants that you have in the USA. Im from New Zealand. Cebu blues 💙 have just come in at a price of $496. Thats so much more than most of us can afford. So most of us will have to wait a year or two before people propagate and sell at an affordable price. Great tips on selling btw!

I think there's some legalities here that are important. Technically in some states you need to be a legal/certified grower to sell anything. Selling a copyrighted plant is illegal. And I'd think on Etsy you'd need to be a legal business that takes taxes, etc. Just some food for thought. :)
Shipping plants and plant material without a license can get you fined!
For sure if you aren’t licensed / aren’t ready to make it a ‘business’ or sell more than a few plants every once in a while just sell locally
You’re absolutely correct. I have an Etsy store, and I can tell you, it varies from state to state. I’m in NJ, and all I had to do was get a tax id, business registration, etc. The good thing is, Etsy will tell you everything you need. It’s very user-friendly.
@@plantytaytay9208 Um what - nvm laws like this are.weird
I recently had my first plant sales and delivered them , everyone was So happy my prices were low - I actually felt guilty asking for a lot .
But it was a great start - nothing wrong with it I’ve purchased most of my plants off Etsy tfs
Where did you buy from?
You're making an honest living😇🙏👍❤🥰 I have problems I'll try to grow plants The Roots don't grow on my plants thank you so much
people mad at selling don't understand how much work actually goes into it
Ive lost a lot of money buying unrooted cuttings , but if you root them yourself you should definitely sell them! Thats a whole new plant!
@@carolynbailey3336 I don’t make videos, you sound like a scam unless you’re trying to make this comment to the girl whose video I commented on
I'm so glad you did a video on this ❤️ You're the best!
You have some of the best info out there on how to make all of this work. You are awesome 👍
I just bought a beautiful platinum mist peace Lilly from the plant hall. Got a wonderful thank you card from your beautiful momma
I was just thinking about this 20 mins ago while staring at my plants. I might just give it a try.
Great topic! Just because someone enjoys growing plant babies that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t monetize it.
Thanks for all the help, Harli!!!
Yay! Happy Friday!! Love ya Harli, thanks for another awesome video.
Happy Friday! I hope it's a good one! thanks for stopping by to watch!
I think my thought process is backwards: I buy the plants that are out of my budget... Then take cuttings of it to sell... Or not sell, lol!!
I love the idea of selling props to increase my plant budget! 💚
Buying plants from private parties is a good idea , they are usually taken better care of , established and most likely cheaper than plant stores or maybe trade with others... my family comes to me when they want new plants I always propagate most of my plants, just to keep that plant going
Totes agree! Sharing is caring, as long as you're not actively trying to manipulate or scam other plant lovers.
Wow, I had no idea people shame others for selling plants. Lol. That’s just stupid. We go to garden centers and nurseries to buy plants that were once seeds or cuttings. So what is the difference if someone is selling theirs....? It’s actually an intelligent way to profit off your hard work.
Wooooo I was just wishing for another Harli video!
What about packaging the plants? I’ve never bought online for a plant so I’m curious how to go about shipping live plants/cuttings.
Thank you for sharing your opinion and to share your Informationen!☺️
Have a nice Day and stay safe!
You are adorable and this is my favorite plant TH-cam channel!
This is so helpful!! Literally watching it again just in case I missed some info. Thank you and I love watching your videos!
I didn't see it till the end but AYYYYYEE CONGRAAAAATS !!!💯
I sell my props at my local flea market. The one I go to does not require sellers permit but it’s also more of a bargain flea market so people were turned off by my prices. Except tiny pots. Tiny pots sold fast. So I’m in the process of dividing all my 4 inch pots into 2 inch to be able to lower prices. At another flea market in my city I need a sellers permit but it’s also a bougier one with more small business booths so I’d have no problem selling there. We have to find what work for us. 🧡
Thank you for this video! I spend so much on plants each month and selling cuttings/rooted starts is the only way I can keep up 😅
What a great idea for a video! I found myself wondering about this just the other day! 🌱🤗
This video is awesome! I’ve wanted to buy/sell more of my plants so I really appreciate this!!
Nice, glad I don’t use social media, my favorite part of plant growing is propagation, I’ve always sold the hell out of them, proud to do it and make a buck. I wish someone would give me a hard time…
Love this video idea. And you look so glowy Harli
I love!!!! how sassy this pregnancy is making you!!! 💚💚💚
😂😂😂
Great info nothing wrong with a little plant plant Hustle looking lovely by the way 🥰
I have been thinking about this .. my collection is now at the point where propagation is necessary.
I put my plants out at our local garage sale in our neighborhood and made $150. And it was fun.
Sheesh I had no idea of the shaming bit.....weird and really who’s business might it be. As a buyer I’m kinda glad somebody’s willing to sell !😎
i would love to see my Foliage Fix behind the scenes and how you got started on a larger scale with what you had
Here to give you the boost! Looking beautiful momma ❤️
Love you Harli G!💕
Here for it! ✅
Internet is a WILD space indeed💯
I like the “ how to ship” idea. Also I think u r the queen of prop boxes . Maybe you have better luck than some of us …wonder why?
I’m going to do a FAQ video about prop boxes to cover some of the most common issues I’m seeing people have with them! Hopefully it’ll help 🤞 because once ya get them down, they really are so great’
I love your videos. Thank you for the great information. I think I'm going to give this a shot.
Reddit is also really good. I've gotten alot of wish list plants for a better price then other places.
I have nothing important to say but still want to ✨help with engagement✨
This is the first I've heard about shaming people for selling their plants; I wonder why the shaming happens? It seems like such a natural thing to do
I had one person tell me it was rude, because it went against the "spirit of gardening"...... 🤷♀️
I love that you made this video
I feel like this is an exclusive BTS of cool plant people 😎
Thank you for the video, I don’t think you should care about the people criticizing others for selling their plants.
Could you do a video on how you ship plants. That's the only thing keeping me back. I've had some really good and some pretty bad experiences having plants shipped to me!😮
The best way to sell your new generations of plants is to include a photo of the mother plant ( with you or with other proof that it's yours).
You're glowing beautiful! ❤
Yes I can't wait !!
Thank you for stopping by!
@@HarliG Always love watching all your videos , just a plant loving girl from a tiny island in east coast Canada 🇨🇦 💚
