I've read the comments about artist's & business. I have rarely met an artist who likes to paint commissions. I do. But, I have a 5 page contract, spells it out. There is a succession of steps that need to be completed, signed off by the customer with payments when they are happy. I show them sketches, photos, discuss colors, materials, delivery dates. And, I deliver on time. While I am painting, I have a clear goal and I know this painting is sold. The customer loves it. What can be better? And when I explain this method to a fellow artist, they cross their arms. Why? Because accountability goes both ways when there is a contract.

I was thinking the same thing about contracts? So do you interview the client? How long does that take? Thanks. I would never do it without a thorough investigation. THat way I don't have to think and worry so much through the process
@@joelhenry4643 Most of my commissions are after the client likes my work, but did not find the exact fit. My interview is simply finding the exact thing they are looking for by brainstorming with them. They may be hesitant because they don't know if you can make the art they want. You have to offer it. Then I send sketches of the future art, they pick the size. If I can, I get a photo of where they will hang, then I photoshop my sketch in place. Sometimes they just hold their phone in front of where they want the art to go. My contract spells out subject matter, size, materials, process, timing, and payments. I know how long it takes me, I give myself an extra week just in case. Deliver early, never make excuses. They will love you.
I was born with the gift and money doesn’t drive me to draw. I do it daily effortlessly. I have so much artwork piled up it makes no sense but I never like posting my work.
In my experience as an Artist. Whenever I try to make Artwork to sell it never works. When I just do my own thing art that just flows from me . They are the Artworks that people want. I've also developed my own system of painting and I have absolutely no idea beforehand of what the outcome will be before I start . It's like an adventure.
The only time I ever sell work is if people specifically commission me to paint something they want. Very rarely does anyone actually buy something I created for myself. It sucks.
@@Fiveash-Art I think a Fifty Fifty approach might help you. When you show your artwork. Show some of the ones you usually can sell but keep gradually introducing your more personal stuff. There is an audience for everything you just have to find it. It might be just one person who wants everything you produce. So never give up. Plus like I said whenever I make something to sell it doesn't sell . So maybe try just showing your work without price tags and expectations of selling it. Hope you are successful.
@@johntaylor6211 I'm 50 years old .. Been doing it for a long time. I always show my personal work, and I always advertise my portrait commissions. I tend to get more responses and reactions from my personal work, but the phone calls come in for the portrait commissions. I show everything.. people seem to like looking at my surreal stuff .. but they don't want to buy it. Galleries reject it because it's too 'traditional' 😂 and people don't want to buy them because they're 'too weird'. At least that's what I've gathered over the years of doing this stuff. It's fine though, when I'm not painting people's kids, dogs and kitty cats, .. I can stew in my own goofy fantasies. I've sold a few on occasion .. I just wish I could sell more of them. They pile up .. I'd be happier if they were hanging on someone else's wall.
I have learned that I need to let what I'm creating become itself instead of me trying to force what I want that's where the fun and the adventure lives
To save people time with this video since it's just 90% filler talk, she says the highest ways to earn income are: 1.Online courses/webinars/coaching 2.Make a youtube channel She then talks about youtube vlog ideas to make as an artist. You're welcome
Yep, exactly. Not as easy as it sounds. The audience is ARTISTS!!! Not educators, course creators, coaches, or vloggers! SMH. Can we just help artists be artists and do what they love?
3 minutes 33 seconds I'll never get back! 🤣 yes I know it's longer than that but too much talk... and how about we share more positive energy! Artists don't need to hear what they've always heard (you're not going to get rich painting, you're not going to make money doing that, artists can't make a living making art...etc). Because...guess what... YES you can! YES. YOU can!! YESSS...YOU ACTUALLY CAN!!! Take your power back peeps! This is an incredible time to be alive! What you make and what you CREATE, NEEDS TO BE SHARED!!! The right people will come and the money will flow...just Believe that, Believe in your SELF and it will be done! I believe in YOU! 🙏🏻 Now GO, make some good stuff!!! 😘 🎉🤗
Heres an advice for artist: find a partner who would run the business side, while you just focus on painting what you love and then commercial painting. The mistake most people make is they try to do everything on there own, and i am so damn sure artist are very self motivated which means they would be very independent. So find someone who understands the business side, while you just focus on the art side.
Dear Kayla, in my 67 years of age I hadn't heard, not seen a video so useful for artists before! There's still some gravity in people that don't let go their old ideas to open to new ones. I liked your video very much. I think there's so much to learn from your ideas and I'll be following you. Thank you! Gracias! Greetings from Mexico City!
Great video! I totally agree. I got tired of taking on commissions. It was too stressful. Having multiple streams of income is so important. Thanks for sharing!
Artists are usually pretty reluctant to embrace business. It requires a different mindset. However, many artists want the freedom that making money provides, so you either embrace the mindset or continue to struggle. I think this is an excellent video. Much to consider. Great ideas. Thank you very much.
No we artists aren't reluctant to anything, we just do not have the time to do the art of marketing! Marketing is a field that requires as much time as becoming a master in art! We only have one life not two! If we choose marketing our art becomes a cheap average product that is low quality art. Anyways AI will replace gallerists or anyone anyways because the public doesn't understand the value of the artists story behind the artworks. You will struggle no matter what you do because artists unlike doctors do not have unions so they do not even have legal power of any kind! Nobody protects all artists, only galleries protect the artists they represent who sell to wealthy millionaires. The idea she is selling here, is not a reality for most artists for a reason. Every day there are more teachers of art online and many do not make a penny! To compete in the market on you tube is as hard as competing anywhere else. I agree with her making videos, is the best shot but making great quality with real creativity that are substantial and that not only add value, but that people love to watch, is not a simple recipe! Stop saying artists do not want to work hard in the business area because that is exactly how they survive out of their own industry that is absolutely exclusive since the times of Michelangelo!
Well I'm a selling artist AND I love bussiness, but my stumbling block is being shy about showing my face. Huge stumbling cblock for an artist! So I only can make money in ways where noone sees me. :) Big hinderance! Hope to find more psychological info about artists getting rid of self-conciouss about your looks!
I am only starting selling my art recently but I started feeling all the pitfalls you discussed in the video. I searched for a video like this and almost cried listening to you affirming everything I have been feeling. It's not unfair for artists to expect financial freedom. Thanks so much for the tips ❤️
OMG, "I grew up in a town with a high school where kids rode tractors to school." I literally spit out my drink. I feel you though, we didn't ride tractors, but most kids who were able to drive came in pick-ups with stuff like scrap metal and huge bags of feed in the back! Love it. You inspire.
Kayla, you’re absolutely lovely to listen to, and very clever in all your ideas! I enjoy your approach & supportive attitude! 🥰 Your light is brighter than the haters that decided to comment. 😉 Please never take them seriously, and always keep that marvelous energy! We need more people like you creating helpful content like this! May you be showered in wealth yourself! 🖤 Much love! 🤘🏻PS: Watch till the end, her advice is golden!
Spent all my time painting things I cared nothing about when I started doing commission work. I started off as a Wildlife artist selling my art while I was still in high school, ended up painting pictures of houses, barns and old cars and doing portrait drawings. I got way to burnt out! That was almost 7 years ago. Now I do what I like to do, I have discovered new ways to keep my art exciting. I am considering her advice. I no-longer sell any of my work because I have been painting and creating art since the 1980s and had nothing but photos left to look back at. I spend most of my time exploring the arts, like statuary & sculpture, carving, mold making & casting and of course painting. I am 100% self-taught and I learn something new every day and that is truly what keeps me excited about the art. I regret never studying under one of the great wildlife artists by taking weeklong classes when they were offered. You Tube is the best place to get art knowledge if you do not want to take classes. I am now 60 and I really enjoy the arts more than ever.
Well in short young Lady, Mom and Artist Coach. I would like you on my Pinterest, even others interested. It's a Library, It's a World Show, it slowly grow. I learn a lot from all. And I prayed for all since I was 3 yrs, doing missions as well as learning all about our CREATOR who inspire us becoming HIS Jeweled Creative Crown Creation. So Repend of him who try to make us looser. I found the MORE I know Our Creator, and HIS WORD and love others and myself like HE does. THE more creative and the better me I become. And HE as PROVIDOR brought people to us. HE Gave only what we can handle. He do not feed greed, selfishness, pride or any type of lust. HE. Is THE Most awesome Personal Coach, Master Artist. Laughing at those who think they and that 7 headed dragon can out smart HIM what a challenge painting the Revealed Revelation, The mysteries that was hidden for 6,000 yrs. What a challenge for some. I am now 73 yrs. With 3-4 generations of artists. Musicians at least 6.
Me too! I went to college as an art major in the early eighties and then turned around and got into the medical sciences and that's where my focus remains. But I would still paint. And people liked my work and I would sell it all the time and back then we had no way to really record our art digitally like we can today and that's where I think I want to pick up my paint brushes again, I can make the original and from there I have options, digital options! Back in the day I lived on a dairy farm, and when we had a cow passed away we would you know just drag it out to a canyon in one of our pastures. My husband and I would go out there on a four-wheeler and find skulls, I would take them home and clean them and get the gesso them and start painting and I would sell those skulls 17:17 for $300 a piece, I had a horseshoeing client who gave me a raccoon skull she found in a sandbar in a river on her property and we cleaned that up and painted it and it went to an art show and got honorable mention and it sold for around $100 it was matted and framed to believe it or not - I'm interested in abstract art now, and I want to learn how to use an airbrush, liquid acrylic paint and tape - that would be the latest new frontier for me!
Some people are just not willing to accept help. They just want to dump on someone who is not trying to sell you anything, not trying to get you to buy their book, they just genuinely want to help others succeed!
The issue I see with this is that it simply perpetuates the current broken paradigm. This is great if you want to sell your soul for a buck and be like everybody else. Otherwise, take the potential loss in revenue and do it the right way: Be a real artist and try to get more actual art into the world. I'm in the music production world and the same thing applies there: More people trying to sell you courses and clicks/likes on YT than they are putting out great music into the world.
I don't knock anybody who prefers capitalism over artistry. I just don't encourage it. Money should never be the reason that people do anything meaningful.
@@SomebodyPickaName you’re missing the entire point. Nothing she’s saying requires you to choose between art and money. The entire point is that you can make more money EASIER while still creating the same art you would have regardless. I don’t see why people are offended by that, other than people don’t like being called out for doing the same things repeatedly like commissions and trying to sell paintings online, which as she said, very rarely is stable.
Thank you for this video!! I really needed it. As an artist, it can be difficult, especially when you don't have connections or know others. I sometimes feel just trapped in a bubble, always researching how to get my art out there, posting here on TH-cam, and other platforms, creating my own shop, etc. Then once I put it out, it's crickets. It sucks, but at the end of the day I love what I do and I keep doing it. I know that one day, it will all pay off for me so I just keep going. I've learned some new things from your video that I shall give a try. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. And I would say to ignore all the negative comments complaining, because some people just don’t like hearing the truth. I almost didn’t watch this because these types of videos USUALLY are clickbait, but yours was the exception. It really is amazing to me how many people think they can make a stable living selling paintings, doing commissions, etc., and you not only called that out but explained how to follow a better path that will enable people to make their art and make a good living at the same time.
All good points. Sounds like some of the best ways to make money creating art, is to educate others doing TH-cam content or creating online courses. Doing 1 on 1 client custom paintings can add some extra revenue, but this can be inconsistent. Etsy might be a good way to sell artwork as prints or digital downloads, or original custom work, but again only volume sales work to make it a full time income. I think an artist these days needs multiple revenue streams, including perhaps gallery showings for original art, or a deal with a local gallery to split the sale prices. However, a successful TH-cam channel and selling online courses might be all a person needs for a full-time income teaching art, along with affiliate income recommending art supplies on Amazon linked to the channel. Once a channel is monetized, Amazon will pay 4% for linked sales from a channel.
Personally right now in my journey I enjoy custom paintings because its allowing me to explore what I can do with ideas people give me. A sort of starting point to get me going. It also keeps me accountable to finish something in a timely manner if its for someone else, especially someone specific that I made a commitment to. I can definitely see why some artists dont like it though! I love working on my own stuff too. Im just not to the stage yet where I hate commissions :)
Kayla , Hey girl. Listen i dont know if you know the lord or not. But can i just be the first to say that you are God sent to me. He is answering my prayer through this simple video you made. I have been debating back and forth about starting a TH-cam channel for various reason, some you have mentioned. But from what you have just said i believes that you just a gave me a steping stone to an amazing adventure the lord is about to take me into. Listening to your mesaage i think the over all idea I got is that, TH-cam is a great place to share your life journey that you believe will encourage others. So thank you. May the bless you. I will definitely send a Shout out to you once I start off.😊🎉🎉
Your videos are ALWAYS so helpful and filled with inspirational ideas. I appreciate You! And yes... 'passive income' is definitely where it's at. Like you said... there is only 1 of us and we can only be stretched just soooo thin. LOL Have a FABULOUS Holiday Season, Kayla!
Lovely video, very helpful. I love your sense of humor! I consider myself an artist, though, I haven't drawn in a while. When I was younger, drawing (usually in ink) was my absolute obsession! I went through stacks of paper, weekly. I sold handmade greeting cards, and did custom art & poetry for people. As a child, I also did other craft work, like sewing & jewelry repair. Sometimes, I got paid like, $300 in a single weekend, which, for a kid, made me feel like I was rolling in moolah!! My money disappeared quickly, though as my family was often strapped for cash. As an adult, I make jewelry for sale in my Etsy Shop. I love making jewelry, but hate the business side of things. It's just not in my wheel house at all. So, for me, the shine has worn off of selling jewelry. My latest obsession is writing, especially songwriting, which I've been doing since 2010. And THAT is where I found inspiration in your video. Weird, right?! I think it's applicable, though. I could do songwriting classes, videos, etc. I don't have a great voice or play an instrument, and even for those who do, many musical/vocal artists don't make tons of money. Additional income streams are always welcome! I'm no songwriting expert, surely, but, if sharing my story and lyrical journey with someone else would help them... AND help me pay the bills, I don't really see a downside.
One necessary thing which art people missing...business knowledge and time they have to devote for their well being... this video opening window for stability for Very Special and Gifted People...for me Only Gifted People are Rich❤❤❤❤
It’s my first time watching your channel. I have been having trouble this couple months, on trying to learn how to sale my art. And just todaye as I was waking up inn the morning to go to work .i told my self i really have to figure this out because there no other option. I don’t want to be stuck as nurse the rest of my life. I don’t want ppl telling me what time to take my lunch. I want to be my own boss. Have time to enjoy life. Not being stock at a hospital. I just want to say thank for taking your time. For the ideas and information. You actually bust up my confidence that I was lacking. Once again thank you.
I just like you! You're funny and seem very genuine and kind. It makes me want to watch your videos and listen! Thank you!! Your content is extremely useful!
Since you mentioned the Klondike and the shovel… there is an excellent book called “The Klondike” by Pierre Berton. In this book, the author talks about “mining the miner”, where in fact, those who got rich during the gold rush, were the merchants and service providers, not the gold prospectors. Your mentioning simply reminded me of this book :)
Art is definitely an ongoing learning experience. ❤ I'm very thankful for your suggestions that I've been thinking of doing for awhile now, and that's starting a you tube channel. I've done commissions and shows and this is yet to be done. I'm not new starting out either, I have talent ready to demonstrate! Thank you!!
Hey Girl ! Stumbled Upon Your Video On My Recommended Feed. I Knew This Was The Video I Needed Because Of Your Thumbnail However Once You Said You DON'T DO Custom Work I Knew You Was My Girl Because I Refuse To Do Custom Work Either ! Thank You For Restoring My Faith In Making Money As An Artist !
It's interesting how divided different artist are w/in the community in how to make money. I follow one artist that insists just selling your art is the best way to make a living- but you need to market yourself properly and find buyers. You make a good point that while that's all well and good, there's always going to be a cap with how much you can earn. I think that's one thing I was missing in my back and forth uncertainty in knowing what path to take- is that selling my art alone will always have a ceiling- and can be quite exhausting in ways that doing courses and youtube aren't as much. Thank you for the insight, it helped me a lot!
I've Made 60k creating murals in Switzerland! Then made another 25k creating an exclusive NFT collection that debuted in Paris, France. It's possible to be successful as an artist. Takes time, keep going!!
Your video is awesome! Thank you for this content, I am literally at the very beginning stages of doing everything you mentioned here in this video, but you have both reinforced things. I know I need to do, and suggested things that I need to be doing that I didn't think of. I've put 4 videos out and I'm trying to produce at least one video every two weeks to start with. I'm very shy on the camera, but I believe in myself and I really think that I can do something here. Wish me luck! And I'm so happy for your success.
I dunno how to feel about the whole online teaching art thing. It’s huge now and everyone is looking to it. But at the same time the people looking to them are wanting to be artists and improve with the intention to sell their art. Seems weird if someone was learning a skill purely to teach someone else it, which is probably what ends up happening. Kinda feels fruitless. Also a loss in some individuality. But absolutely not knocking anyone doing it, at the end of the day it’s about making a living for yourself!
Powerful presentation. But many artists report that their videos are not showing up and they get almost no feedback. TH-cam developed into a platform that is like real life, only a few make it to be successful.
Agreed - I hate doing custom work, more so in portraits, tedious and doesn't pay great, plus the client always picks at the small part of expression. Illustration custom work isn't so bad but they don't come round very often.
My problem is that I like all of the traditional media and am not picky about subject matter. Therefore, to sit down and stay focused on one piece is challenging enough because of all of the other ideas running through my head.
Thank you for sharing your experience! As a fellow artist trying to make there way in the world, I'm just wond, how long did it take for your videos to be monetised?
Omg this was so inspiring and I’ve been unbelievably stagnant. I LOVED the community art video idea. I could so do that and it would help me talk to more people & give out doses of creativity.
I just stumbled upon your channel Kayla and glad I did. As a self learning artist with some help from professors at college. I've been trying to saveup enough paintings of mine to make my first official art book in the upcoming future. my goal is to come up with atl east 100 paintings for it. Of doing a bit of abstract painting and environment paintings past two years now counting from my start of learning from school in 2022. I have never stopped painting acrylics ever since and proud of my achievement thus far. I must admit I do truly love your advice you have given in this vdeio as a self learning artist. Been experimenting with my channel on n off for years. I do believe now I got ideas on where I wanna take it in the direction I like it to go now this year. Combininbg painting with the fun power of improv since I also love doing improv as well on the side. I think combining both passions of mine would make my channel a unique channel. I also liked how ya tackled the topics and tips. Thanks so much. I should also probably practice up my css/html skills of coding to comeup with a unique site for my paintings as well. :)
Wow Kayla you got a lot of unappreciative comments here, I like how you didn’t bother to delete them. Must be too busy making money while you sleep. ;-) These negative commenters are not your target audience, but they helped you out anyway by boosting you in the algorithm :-) I found your ideas so well thought out that I took notes, and stayed til the end. Nice video.
Seriously, so many people are ignorant and hateful, and don’t even understand that they had valuable information right in front of their face that they chose to ignore and whine about.
I have turned down so many custom jobs. I've never done even one, I've just always known I'm not a people pleaser and no amount of money would change that.
the greatest artists alive go to billionaires houses and do custom paintings. Theres something to be learned and understood about that quality. thats a true artist. torwards the end someone paying for everything purely for your souls expression and trust in the real time gift
Thanks for your wise advice. You've given me a lot to think through. Having come to art later in life from a non art career, it's been hit and miss. Although I might not be gunning for millions of dollars, the idea of passive income resonates. Subscribed.
All of these ideas could be substituted for other things as well instead of art, maybe some other sort of thing you love doing. Great ideas. Thank you!!
Very fun and informative video! Thank you so much for sharing with us. Do you have any particular platforms you enjoy for teaching online classes? I've been looking into many different options, but so far TH-cam seems the easiest to me ;)💕
Been a artist for 30 years barely started a art related youtube channel a couple of years ago its gaining traction of course no $$$ but in time ill make the requirements.
I built up a stock of around 80 paintings. Different sizes. I advertised on different social media outlets, people love them. But in the end nothing. I have had three shows. People only buy a few, I have done a few commission pieces. I feel like giving up on ever painting again
Just found your channel Kayla but loving your wisdom! I loved the library of videos analogy in your other video, so good! Thank you for sharing your journey and being a source of inspiration!!!
I think this is very true if you want to be wealthy. You can have several income streams which can also include selling original art, online classes, TH-cam etc.. I think that’s part of a smart biz plan for artists. Loved your points in the video and energetic personality!
@@elinakelle it’s true that it takes a lot of time, but things like classes can become passive income so then you would have lots of free time potentially.
Best paying art jobs for a comfortable lifestyle are either a jeweller or a tattooist, depending weather you are a 2d or 3d artist, both jobs allow for £100k+ a year!
Artists are not merchants, marketers, hustlers, profiteers, salespeople, or cons. Starving artist is real. An artist must concentrate on developing new ideas, styles, having fun with art or agony... As the case may be. Vincent Van Gogh only sold one painting in his time and that was to a fellow painter. The art world thought Van Goghs work was terrible. That did not stop him from painting.
Huh? He was a crazy person riddled with STDs whose brother payed his way….. Jesus Christ…. You romanticized “art experts”…. Geez….. Picasso and JC Leyendecker were EXCELLENT salesmen…..
obviously you'll want to use the internet to connect with more people and my advice is to niche down on medium/style/subject (create a brand identity.. be the artist that silkscreens soup cans or stencils little girl graffiti).
Amazing video. This was really informative from someone who is further down the path than many clicking on this video. I appreciate the authentic no BS approach. LOVE THIS!
You can't teach someone how to become a successful well paid artist if you've never done that yourself. Only take advise from some one who been there done it and got the t-shirt
Working on a few scripts for youtube videos. I've never been super confident on a mic but I think I could blab for a while and make it educational/ interesting lol thanks for the inspiration!
I do watercolor tutorials on my TH-cam channel. but despite years of experience teaching in schools and colleges and selling hundreds of paintings. The TH-cam algorithm ignores me. They say if you keep plugging away for a year or two you may take off. To be honest I'm not prepared to waste that amount of time .
In the old days famous artists got there purely 'off-line' because 'online' didn't exist - take Francis Bacon for example - not a great artist in my opinion but he found a gallery owner who took a chance on his efforts and exhibited them, and Bacon was persistent, so don't rule out 'off-line'. It can still be part of your strategy. TH-cam is very oversubscribed and offers false promise to the loner. You really need an 'off-line' and 'online' strategy working together, but you also need to recruit an agent - another individual to help promote your stuff. IT'S VERY HARD TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN. You need an off-line sponsor or agent or champion and you need to be a prolific producer of work. Also, remember, you are not trying to sell to other artists who are also trying to do the same thing as you. And you don't want to be an art teacher - that's another dead end in my mind. I am not sure that even having thousands of TH-cam views even helps in a small way either. The jury is still out on that one. Good video though.
The artists I look up to like James Jean, Entei Ryu etc is actually focus on making art, be a really great artist, both of them doing their thing while being employed, so no shame on creating yt or being art teacher, just that this video is attracting a lot of impatience audience, focus on making money instead of being an f awesome artist.
I like custom work, IF I offer to do it for free. I hate doong it paid because then there is pressure and their opinion matters. When its free because I wanted too, it tends to be better because im not stressed over it.

Yes! So true!!
I've sold just over 100 original paintings nationwide..and one internationally.
(Small ones,but still..i find that a success in itself🤗)
That’s amazing, congratulations! 🎉 😀
Congratulations! What's your medium and style?
Please where can i sell mine?
I'm so proud of you 🤗🤗💖 !!! Congratulations!!!.

To save people time with this video since it's just 90% filler talk, she says the highest ways to earn income are:
1.Online courses/webinars/coaching
2.Make a youtube channel
She then talks about youtube vlog ideas to make as an artist. You're welcome
Yes! I hope the chapters I added were helpful for skipping to the parts you wanted to ☺️ Thank you
Yep, exactly. Not as easy as it sounds. The audience is ARTISTS!!! Not educators, course creators, coaches, or vloggers! SMH. Can we just help artists be artists and do what they love?
Would have been nice if you provided time stamps…
Thank you!!! 🙏🏼
Blessed are the time savers! Thank you very much.
Now GO, make some good stuff!!! 😘 🎉🤗
yup
I need to hear that! Thanks.
Yes, been looking for that for 55 years. Haven’t found it yet. Hope you do.
Business and art making are both creative processes.
I’m so glad you could relate and you are not alone! 🥹 thank you for this comment.
But it's impossible.
Oh, and you’ve got a new subscriber. 😁
Thank you.
I love your energy and sense of humor. Work smarter not harder.
Love it too!
This is such a helpful video. Thanks so much for sharing these great ideas with us!
Thanks for the shovel⛏️ 💐
Thank you for this video. And I would say to ignore all the negative comments complaining, because some people just don’t like hearing the truth. I almost didn’t watch this because these types of videos USUALLY are clickbait, but yours was the exception. It really is amazing to me how many people think they can make a stable living selling paintings, doing commissions, etc., and you not only called that out but explained how to follow a better path that will enable people to make their art and make a good living at the same time.
You're so eloquent and this video is full of such great insight!! Thank you for sharing
Ahh thank you so much! 🥰 I really appreciate that feedback.
Stumbled on this video. Your channel is going to take off. You’ve got charisma. Keep at it. 🎉
Ahh, thank you so much!! 🥺🤍

Um… really hate to bring this up buttttt, I’m going to curse here,…..Taxes. IRS.
Thank you so much, I’m glad you like them ☺️ Happy holidays!!
I love doing commissions because it’s something unique for the client.Good points though.
I just like you! You're funny and seem very genuine and kind. It makes me want to watch your videos and listen! Thank you!! Your content is extremely useful!
Thank You so much Kayla 😊

Very good video. Thak you. I think your presentation style is excellent❤
Thank you!!
Thank you for this content. I am excited to do a time-lapse video of something I create! May God continue to bless and keep you!!😊

Haha I’m so glad you can relate! I’m done selling my soul for custom pieces ✨ You’re welcome and thank you!
Do you have a business email?
Thank you! I came looking for ideas on how to make money on art and you totally delivered! 🙏🏼💕
Thanks ! Where can I find this magical TH-cam you speak of ?
>How to get rich as an artist
>Step 1: stop making art
It's so obvious how did i not see this
😅😅kinda funny, but in a way she's 100% correct!
.... and become a YTer who isnt an expert in arts but teaches people art.
I hate custom work and will no longer do them. Too much stress that shuts down my creativity.
I hope you get rich with your art, I still believe it is possible , I am still figuring out how to reach my market.
Yes, there are a ton more people who want to be able to do what your do than buy what you make.
Powerful presentation. But many artists report that their videos are not showing up and they get almost no feedback. TH-cam developed into a platform that is like real life, only a few make it to be successful.
If you're gonna be a artist, you've got to find your own style that fit you.Everybody has down style
Agree
I love this and I love your friendly, down to earth, positive vibes. Def something to think about.
Thank you so much, I appreciate this :)
That was such a good video I'm gonna watch another one of yours right now ✨🥀😊 Thank you!!
Thank you for sharing your experience! As a fellow artist trying to make there way in the world, I'm just wond, how long did it take for your videos to be monetised?
You’re so welcome! It took me about 1 year 8 months for me to get monetized ☺️ it really depends on the creator though!
Thanks for this video. I'd love to see more about the best ways to go about creating courses and webinars.
You are absolutely delightful and I wish you the abundance just for sharing your sweet personality n ideas 💡
Great video! I like your energy and enthusiasm.
Agreed 👏 Thank you!
I actually love doing custom paintings, I built my business on them!
I needed to hear this and I’m not even done watching it. Wow. Thank you
Thanks for your wise advice. You've given me a lot to think through. Having come to art later in life from a non art career, it's been hit and miss. Although I might not be gunning for millions of dollars, the idea of passive income resonates. Subscribed.
Creation > Exhibition > Auction
Let the works talk for themselves
And it may take time
All of these ideas could be substituted for other things as well instead of art, maybe some other sort of thing you love doing. Great ideas. Thank you!!
Very fun and informative video! Thank you so much for sharing with us. Do you have any particular platforms you enjoy for teaching online classes? I've been looking into many different options, but so far TH-cam seems the easiest to me ;)💕
Wishing you success... great video!
Thank you for this video, my mom does beautiful paintings but has struggled to sell her art. Will definitely show her your video😊
I have never sold one of my pieces. I just created for self care. And would not know where to start to begin if I wanted to sell them
Been a artist for 30 years barely started a art related youtube channel a couple of years ago its gaining traction of course no $$$ but in time ill make the requirements.
What about video idea no.8? 19 Ideas FOR YOU ;) Found the mic distracting but nice presentation.
And no time to enjoy the life after all that 😢
@@elinakelle it’s true that it takes a lot of time, but things like classes can become passive income so then you would have lots of free time potentially.
Best paying art jobs for a comfortable lifestyle are either a jeweller or a tattooist, depending weather you are a 2d or 3d artist, both jobs allow for £100k+ a year!
I've never met your grandma 😂 I love it. Kayla! Enjoyed your video, Great Advice!! 💖🤗
Thank you really for really, I am making you and this video proud before six months
Even the great Rennasaince artists hated doing custom artwork.
Amazing video. This was really informative from someone who is further down the path than many clicking on this video. I appreciate the authentic no BS approach. LOVE THIS!
Thank you very much Kayla for all those wonderful tips. ❤
You can't teach someone how to become a successful well paid artist if you've never done that yourself. Only take advise from some one who been there done it and got the t-shirt
I hope everything works out for you, and thank you for being honest about your intentions.
Thanks for sharing all of the content ideas. You've been a huge help.
I know of an artist who literally bought a castle. A CASTLE. In the town I grew up in. Great Barrington, MA, Searles castle. For real
Kayla, I love custom digital work. Have Bay Photos print and dropship the work.
Nr. 21. The art of robbing a bank. It includes the word art but eliminates the time consuming labour associated with creating art and it is lucrative!
These are literally the artists I thought of, this video could be helpful if you are most concerned about money but it could also be a limited mindset
I like custom work, IF I offer to do it for free. I hate doong it paid because then there is pressure and their opinion matters. When its free because I wanted too, it tends to be better because im not stressed over it.
