    Pete, any haters about people like you propagating rare plants and selling them for a profit are forgetting that eventually most of these rare plants go down in price so that in 1 - 3 years in most cases the average person can afford to buy one, even if it is just a 4" pot. Plant propagators and growers push forward the amount of knowledge on these plants culture. Some of these rare plants are losing habitat and are on the verge of going extinct. The same is true of rare animals. If people worldwide are growing these plants and selling them that provides an informal repository of genetic material that can be drawn off of if needed. The only thing to be concerned about is if any of these plants are invasive and escape into places like Florida where they can out compete native plants.

    The funny thing is I stumbled across your channel by learning how to grow exotic plants out and sell them as investment plants so you can make money to buy more of them. It's not just a way to make money but it's a really good way to expand your collection. Also, good to see that you're feeling better.

    • @petevsplants7516
      @petevsplants7516  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Exactly. All the stuff I've bought in TC is because I want one of those plants to have in my collection (without needing to chop it up to sell parts to pay for it).

  • @aplantprocess

    I was curious how the sales were going. Sounds like you have a great strategy.
    I seriously cannot understand why people would have a problem with other people cutting and growing out plants to sell.
    Like… how do they think any of us came to have plants we’re growing indoors.
    And anyway, I’d much rather buy from someone in the hobby than a large corporation.

    • @petevsplants7516

      Yeah, not sure how they get angry at people doing this at home but are fine with big nurseries doing it for profit lol

      @@petevsplants7516 exactly! To me its much more ethical to support home growers / small businesses making a living from plants they love rather than the mass production nurseries / big corporates.

    Great video Pete mate thanks for the tips as usual. I need to get some of my props on ebay. I keep chopping things up saying I'm going to sell them and get some money back and then because hey lets face it I'm lazy they just join the others on the shelves. 🙄🤣

    Great breakdown Doc. Not sure why someone would hate. How did they get their plans?😂. I think the crime is the low quality stuff hitting the box stores in the US at least. PPP with no pink, standleyanna with no white, “miss labeled” esqueleto and “obliqua” and now low quality Thai Cons and even Albo switch next to zero variegation.
    Keep up good growing and great videos!

    • @petevsplants7516
      @petevsplants7516  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I often get deals on stuff that doesn't look crash hot. So I'm always keeping an eye out for those. The issue is anything that doesn't look 100% pretty much won't sell, which is really annoying, as it's often just cosmetic and the plant is fine and good quality.

    You and Lee--informative AND entertaining! I have to admit: I'm totally intimidated about chopping up my plants. You have lots of good tips and I'm getting there....slowly. Question: those clear pots in this video...are the drainage saucers attached or is it just how you're holding them? Do you have a source for them? Good to see you here again.

    Awesome really informative video! I don’t think I could handle trying to manage a big scale investment + return for selling. I just sell any surplus cuttings on FB I have of my nicer specimens, but I’ve never made back the cost of the plant. It gets a bit headachey quickly though because FB marketplace users have a tendency to not read the ad and demand interesting requests lol.

    Hey man, awesome and helpful content (consistently), so thank you for that. Regarding the aeroponics box, do you run the pump 24/7 or do you have it on a timer with a set on/off cycle? I don't remember if you ever mentioned it in a previous video (apologies if you have).

    • @petevsplants7516

    How do you control pests in your collection. I have few plants I want to sell but I had a side mite outbreak and I'm terrified I will send someone a plant with them even though I've treated them. I'm afraid people will demand their money back or will leave bad reviews etc have you had any issues with that?

    • @petevsplants7516
      @petevsplants7516  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey mate, I use predatory mites, I spray stuff constantly with various pesticides when the predatory mites aren't around, I use insecticide power plugs too if gnats get out of control at times, and I also use Tanlin drops in my ferts. My main issues are spider mites and gnats, and the odd mealy bug. The gnats and mealy bugs just seem to be an annoyance and don't do much damage to anything, but the spider mites damage leaves all the time.

    I may just be really dense, but what exactly is the difference between the white knight and the red anderson? They look like the same plant to me, especially more recent versions of white knight including my own ones that tend to have white and red variegation?

    • @petevsplants7516
      @petevsplants7516  ปีที่แล้ว +1
