Blender Secrets - Kitbashing Details

  • Although you can model every single little detail of your robot model yourself, you can save literally months of time by simply downloading one or more of the many kitbashing details packs that you can find on Artstation, Gumroad and other places. It takes a little practice and the right workflow but once you're in the groove, you're building robots in no time with this method. It's especially useful for things like robot hands and feet.

    You can also build your own Blender library of objects and therefore create your own "Kitbash" for common components for like projects.

    Do the kit bashing details stand out when modeling low poly objects?

    • @BlenderSecrets
      @BlenderSecrets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, I'd say they stand out just by being in their own design language. Making your own details will ensure that it fits your model. But sometimes, you need to save a lot of time. If you model for years however, eventually your own asset library is big and re-useable, for kitbashing.

    How does one get the idea of WHAT to make with the kitbash props? I find myself struggling to think of what to make and what parts and details to add to it. In this vidoe itself, the robot seems very detailed and complex to come up with.
    Is there a specific method to think of ideas and such in regards to kitbashijg?

    • @BlenderSecrets
      @BlenderSecrets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good question. I guess that's the hardest thing to teach, inventing things or being creative. I could say you just have to start, and go one piece at a time... but it's easy to say that and maybe not so easy to do. Pick a starting point like a hand, and find something that looks like a finger, then see if you can connect it to something that looks like hand... and so on. It's a very good question, I'm sorry that my answer is lacking.

    • @Sh-hg8kf
      @Sh-hg8kf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BlenderSecrets I see. No issues, your answer was still good, the idea of trying to recreate something and pick what i THINK looks like what I want to create is a very good starting point that I hadn't considered until your comment! Thank you!

      @@Sh-hg8kf I created them myself, it dawned on me that if I created specific common objects and kept then all in one Blender file, I could copy and paste them into new projects and save time and all that was required was to scale them to suit the project they are copied into. I make a common wheel and tyre for agricultural vehicles, its saved into a common Blend file "home made kitbash" and then when required, imported into a new project and scaled to suit the vehicle size.

    the lack of a library makes blender feel so primitive. having all the objects laid out like that and manually having to find em. the library that they are making now in the alpha version is still really bad. you can only place items randomly where your mouse is. you cant place them on the grid or at 3d cursor or anything. you can't make assets from the viewport you can only make em from the layer view. when you have hundreds of objects in dozens of collections this becomes a freaking nightmare

    • @BlenderSecrets
      @BlenderSecrets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah we really need a good asset library like ten years ago ;-) I haven't used the new one in Blender 3.0 alpha much yet, but it seems a step in the right direction?

    • @fall190
      @fall190 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BlenderSecrets it is but i cant use i. ive been making a modular building set but since i cant place the assets on grid when i drag them from the library any time saved is lost. Having to place 3d cursor, place asset, send object to 3d is CLUNKY as hell. I don't understand why they are taking so long with it. compared to everything else its so simple. just look at unreal and copy paste the design, done.
