Easy job, thanks for the tutorial! I'm still getting a misfire after changing out the plugs, so guess I need to do-over with coil packs :-/ FYI, you can press the red button the driver's side strut and the hood opens another 15^ or so. Really makes it nice for getting those back plugs!

Hi. I have (or maybe had, now) a 2018 MB GLS 450 4MATIC, with about 100,000 on the OD. The car suddenly seemed to go from one problem to another. First, after taking it in for basic maintenance, with the check engine light on, the mechanic pulled up code indicating wonky thermostat. Okay, we got that replaced - but the check engine light remained on. The mechanic pulled up code(s) indicating camshaft assembly issues. I drove car home and returned to dealership a few days later, 4 April, 2024, for inspection prep-work. After some tear-down of the car, 2 weeks later, extended warranty company approved claim. Finally underway with that job, upon completion, the check engine light remained on. Again, the mechanic pulled up another code which initially indicated an original sensor issue but that code somehow changed and became one that addressed random misfiring. Along the way, service department manager wanted my approval for further tear-down including dropping the engine out before an inspector would come again to verify on behalf of the extended warranty company. This time I said “no”, aware of certain exclusionary clauses in the service contract - one of them being carbon buildup, hardly uncommon. My car has been in the shop since 4 April. I have decided to get a replacement vehicle and cash out my extended warranty policy. Any thoughts on any of this?
Job takes about 2 hours. These are the plugs I used-www.amazon.com/NGK-PLKR7A-Laser-Platinum-Spark/dp/B001RLRT9Q. Plugs are required maintenance on these vehicles every 91,000 miles or 5 years.
NGK 4288 or PLKR7A, it’s the same plug. Amazon has them. Changed my 2011 GL450 last year and changing my 12 GL550 this weekend. NGK is what I pulled from my 550 last weekend and they are original. Bosch is fine as well.
I dont have a specific link to the oe part. I purchased these through my parts distributor. I normally purchase stuff I can't get from them through fcp euro. Hard to beat their prices, and they offer a lifetime warranty on all parts.
Spec is 0.8mm. Most spark plugs come pre-gapped new. If you are using platinum or iridium tipped plugs I wouldn't try messing with the gap, as you run the risk of breaking the tip off.
@@joezoborowski2773 it’s front passenger side.. didn’t even have to take any major parts off.. did the coil pack for about 116$ and took about 7 minutes
Your gl 450 vids are CLUTCH for me. Thanks so much!
Great Job, simple explanation, no needless talk, this is how all instruction videos should be.

Run a compression test if you are still getting a misfire after replacing all those things
@@orionjones9203 Coils fixed it... I just went ahead and replaced all of them at the time.
Enjoyed this, just bought my bride a 2014 so I’m subscribed & looking forward to more
Excellent video love how organize your tool boxes is.
what are the gap specs for those spark plugs you put in
Really enjoying the videos bud! 👍
Just came across your channel.. great video. Do you think you can make one showing the location of all O2 sensors?
I unfortunately no longer own this vehicle.
great video, do I have to set the gap on the new spark plugs? thanks
The come pre gapped. Just make sure they aren't smashed down from shipping and you should be good.

Nice video. Thank you!!!
Great video!
thanks for the excellent video, one question: do you have the part number of the spark plug replacement? were OEM or aftermarket?
They were aftermarket. Bosh part number YR7MPP33.
How long a job is it to replace all plugs. What type of plugs did you use? How long do the plugs last?
Are iridium plugs required?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. What year is this car?
It's a 2008
Bro nice job I have a gl450 2010 do you have a link for the original part thank you

Spark, plug name, brand, and part number, possibly?
Brand: NGK Part number: PLKR7A
What the torque for the plugs??
10:57 he puts it in the video
And what’s the correct gap calibration for the new spark plugs?
Spec is 0.8mm. Most spark plugs come pre-gapped new. If you are using platinum or iridium tipped plugs I wouldn't try messing with the gap, as you run the risk of breaking the tip off.
Anyone tell me the layout of the cylinders… I have a cylinder 1 misfire and I don’t know which one it is
Cylinder #1 is the forward most cylinder on the passenger side of the engine.
Did you resolve the misfire problem? How?
@@joezoborowski2773 misfire ended up being a faulty ignition coil.

Anti-seize on the plugs?
I normally don't out anti-seize on the plugs unless the manufacturer recommends it.
👍
Question my wife has the same car could you change mine?
Why don't you say the order of the spark plugs 1-8. The order. Would make these videos much better.
i want to know the answer to this too.
Me 3!
Passangers side front to rear 1,2,3,4 - drivers side front to rear 5,6,7,8
Great video. 👍
I have a 2015 GL 550. 54k on the clock. Is the procedure the same? Did your plugs come pre gapped?
Should be the same process as both engines are from the same engine family. Spark plugs do come pre-gapped.
