Thank you very much much, I have been trying to work out the difference and which one to buy as a beginner. Your video was very clear. Greatly appreciated.
@@skinchakra Elham, I have been researching homogenizers for a long time and still haven't bought one due to the very high price. I have, however, come across cheaper Chinese models, but I am very skeptical. What are your thoughts on this? Thank you.
@@marijanabreitmeyer3421 I tried the cheaper Asian version and was personally disappointed. it was a waste of money. I ended up investing in and IKA disperser with various blades and water bath to reduce heat. I have a timer on mine and I can save the info to my PC (a purchased software which is not needed in the beginning unless doing large batches) and I can only say, you will not be disappointed!
Thankyou for your video, I have an overhead stirrer and wondering what blade you would use for the emulsions? also you said small quantities, what size do you suggest.
@@amandaferguson9376 the quantity depends on the motor and capacity of the stirrer. The blade depends on the viscosity of the emulsion. We use a propeller for dispersing gum and for low to medium viscosity emulsions and an anchor blade for high viscosity emulsions
sorry I somehow missed this question. It depends on the nature of the serum and the ingredients you are using but generally an overhead stirrer would be a better choice
Thank you for you demonstration. My question would be for a small scale lab. The steps to making a lotion or cream O/W emulsions. Should we use the homogenizer first to accomplish the emulsion then move to the overhead stirrer to make sure the emulsion stays during the cooling down phase? I hope you understand my question. And I would use such method for a 5000 ml batch of lotion or cream.
you need to blend each phase separately and disperse the gum which probably includes an overhead stirrer, then the homogenizer and then again the stirrer during the cool down. There are some reactors that combine both instruments but they are quite pricy
@@skinchakra i just found out your channel and the clips are so interesting and usefull. I want to made body cream (84% water phase, 16% oil phase), i tried the formula with the stick blender and it got air bubbles, can homogenizer or head stirrer would be perfectly for this body cream?
So glad I stumbled upon this video, thank you for the comparison! For an overhead stirrer, what are the key features that we should be looking for when buying one (eg speed, capacity, other features etc)?
This is a great video. Thank you for creating it. Similar to my post for another video, I would be interested in hearing your views about why a high-speed hand-held blender (a stick/immersion blender) would not function similarly to a homogenizer. I realize the homogenizer is better, but I would be interested in hearing more about how the mode of action is different. Thanks very much.
Can you give a video on the different overhead stirrer blades especially the part why you say air? You have two different paddles, one squares with holes and one with blades on the side What's the difference?
Hello, thank you so much for the video. This was really helpful. I am working to create oil based lotions for my at home business. Can you please recommend a reasonably priced homogenizer I can consider? Thanks. I subscribed to support your channel.
Thank you very much, very helpful video. What IKA model is the overhead stirrer and homogeniser? Have you had experience with Silverson homogenisers ? How do they compare with IKA ?
Thank you for the video - very helpful! If I'm just starting out and only making lip balms, lipsticks, and lip creams, do I need a fast speed? Is an overhead stirrer with 1000 rpms enough speed?
Thanks for your comment. For those ingredients you don't need an overhead stirrer. You need a double jacket mixer to be able to heat and cool the product at different stages of manufacturing
I make more of serums basically low viscosity formulations. Do you think I need more of the overhead stirrer? Can you use a homogenizer for gum dispersion?
thanks for your comment. We'll answer your question in a video during the second or 3rd week of January. Wishing you a nice start in a fabulous new year
Which one is best for hair conditioners? I tried using a overhead mixer to blend out Hydroxyethycellulose but I feel like my conditioners are not thick enough even wit the highest percentage use.
then you are not hydrating the gum completely. You need both of them for a hair conditioner but of you can afford only one of them then go with the stirrer
I hope all is well whatever time this message meets you. I was wondering how probiotic liquids are emulsified, mechanically or chemically into cosmetic care products, such as lotions and leave in conditioners. How can they keep their integrity and probiotic activity and a stable PH?
I have an ingredient that is for w/o emulsifier or an oil thickener. Its recommended to use a homogenizer. I dont have one. The ingredient worked but didn't thicken up as much as it advertised at the 5% level. Is that because im using a mixer or maybe I should just add more?
Thank you! I finally get it. After thorough research, I still wasn't 100% sure of the difference.
glad we could help
