    Theon’s “Edit”...I mean...Wow!!! Incredible and so much better then the TV version, especially the part about his blood being the catalyst to bring back the Starks, which I thought was the worst part of TV episode (aside from the obvious: Arya killing the “Night King” 🤦🏻‍♂️)
    Not only was the crypts scene lazy writing, the fact that it meant the Starks would come back as Wights was an absolute atrocity to the story and the Stark name

    Loving this video series so far, and I especially love the Mormonts vs the Bear addition, that is pure genius. I'm not sure if I like the Theon change though if I'm totally honest.
    I thought the original fighting to protect the person he captured Winterfell from, and getting the confirmation he needed that he is a good man from that person was important. His choice to guard the central objective of the Night King rather than someone in the supposed safe area showed he wasn't going to run from the fight anymore. Also his death was already kinda perfect. He knew he was going to die, and seeing as Arya would come in later (although I wager this will need fixing in the next video) they had already lost from his perspective, so in reality he had nothing left to fight for. But he bravely charged his death anyway because it was the right thing to do. There were many issues with the episode but Theon was one of the few aspects I thought they got right

    • @YurManDavid
      @YurManDavid 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, I liked the Theon role, but the way he charged with no effort was stupid in hindsight. Bran himself could have moved out of the way of his charge to death. He should have done a really cool, highly technical move and been countered by The Night King.

    • @nickbrough8335
      @nickbrough8335 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I listened to a similar edit blog (sorry forgotten who) who had Theon almost killed by the night king, but then stab the night king in the leg to provide the opening for Arya (a concept taken from JRRT's battle outside Gondor) to deliver the killing blow. Although quite derivative, it works better than what was shown by D&D

    • @johnnyskinwalker4095
      @johnnyskinwalker4095 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      To tell you the truth, I was not a fan of the way it happened with Theon's death on the show, he came off like some weak dumb fool. He went from being Ramsey's dog to the Stark's dog. At least in the crypt he was useful. I think GoT have gone too much into sentimentality.

    Two small things I'd change about your edits:
    1- Archers, please archers. Archers are probably the most important troops on a siege defense, especially when fighting unorganised enemies that can't defend against the arrows.
    2- Keep the oil, ditch the fire arrows, these aren't a real thing, they absolutely do not work.(this is more of nitpick, not that important, really)

  • @splinterthreethousand930

    Melisandre should have birthed some of those shadow monsters to fight the whites. It’s a power she used once in the series and we never seen it again.
    As the Night King was moving towards Bran, they should have had Jon snow and the other main characters fighting with the white walkers instead of the white walkers standing there doing nothing. A distance away the Night King should have been walking towards Bran slowly and Bran should have had taken the Night King with his new powers into a different time period like the 3 eyed raven did to him. In that time period you see the knight King still Walking towards Bran but in his original human form. Bran and the night king have dialogue back and forth of what his intentions are. In that dialogue we learn that since the children of the forest changed him into a white walker he can never be apart of the light so he wants to bring darkness to everything the lord of light created. Changing Bran into a white will give him full power of everything the lord of light created including all life; past, present and future.
    After the dialog the knight king reaches Bran then we pan back to the present and the night king looks like his white walker self he takes his sword out and strikes at Bran. The sword stops at mid swing and you see that the night Kings sword was blocked by a blade Bran is holding and then Bran gets out of his wheel chair and a sword fight happens. Eventually the night king drives his blade into brands stomach with the blade in his stomach the night king senescing someone behind him turns back and sees another Bran behind him. He then looks at the Bran he has the sword in and that Bran removes his face to reveal it was Arya. Arya dies.
    Bran now wargs, but not into a bird but into a dragon and comes up and grabs the night king tossing him far away. Then Bran still in the dragon uses him and other survivors to escape as winterfell falls the white walkers.

    Having to kill her undead child could have really been emphasized as a moment that pushes her closer to the edge, since they were so set on the transparent dragon nazi mom ending. Fear and pain of loss can drive people to do wild shit to people, even without war or pressure of leading.

    I've never been as disappointed with an episode as I was with GoT S8-E3 and E4. It's blatently obvious that D&D were bored with the entire project and put the absolute minimum of effort into it. That's not the way to treat devoted fans who've been around since the beginning -- much of the fanfic I've read is a distinct improvement on what was served up on the HBO version.

    I generally like what you're doing--it brings coherence. Two major problems-- 1) You make no systematic use of archers. Archers were the main artillery in the Middle Ages. Whether in the field or defensively on castle ramparts, they were crucial. That's why parapets have arrow slits! Dragonglass arrowheads would have been very effective. 2) One hero is very shortchanged--Arya. She doesn't even get to give a helpful sendoff to her inept sister. Fighting on the walls with her custom weapon, fighting in the corridors. This is exactly what she's been training for since she put on that helmet on in the first episode. Her bullseye back then is important too were illustrative of the invasiveness of the wights and her prowess. She should have been put in charge of the archery contingent. Jon would have reminded her that if WWs come within range, taking them out would take all wights controlled by them. I assume in part 4 you will have her kill the NK after waiting in the godswood. But she should be effectively used in the main battle first. When the time comes she can scurry to the godswood. She knows the secret ways there. Jon can give her a shout or clear a path of wights for her to help, which gives him a role in the climax. Anyway, I look forward to Part 4.

    The biggest problem with ASOIAF fans is that we're a bit smarter than a casual viewer GoT started pandering too so these amazing edits are bound to happen.
    The damage has been done however, I realised something most of my friends didn't or were in the denial - the show truly died in episode 3 and I was furious and miserable for a week and after episode 4, my grief morphed to not giving a shit and being completely empty, I knew what was coming, I knew what those mongoloids D&D were up to... Ugh, anyways, loving these, my edits would be even different than yours and others I've seen but one thing is certain... It's far better than the shitstain we got. Really fucking good twist at the crypts and Viserion, holy shit that's very clever!

    Personally important edit: Arya doesn't immediately lose her weapon. Let her fight more doing awesome stuff. The wights are endless anyway, so this won't change the outcome of the battle.

    In the climax, there needs to be some way to make the Night King's story more interesting and better reward all that time spent with Bran north of the wall. What was the Three Eye Raven preparing him for? Why was that cave so creepy? Why was he north of the wall when Weirwoods are everywhere? Why does the Three-Eyed Raven musical motif offer underlying sinister tones? Who made the wall? How was the long night ended last time? Why did Old Nan tell Bran not to trust crows? lol.
    Not every mystery needs fulfillment. However, 'Elves made bad things' is a very underwhelming character arch for both the Night King, and for Bran. There is good potential for a much-needed shocker here. Good luck. If you run out of ideas, blast him with a box full of dragon glass shards and wildfire, with a little trap door for Bran to fall through.

      @@Uncle_Fred We might find some of those answers in the prequel series. Bloodraven must have known that the Night King would eventually find his way into the cave, so he had to locate a suitable successor, one who wasn't bound to the tree. The cave is full of the remains of deceased Children. The weirwoods are creepy. They need blood to nourish them. It's why Ned Stark always cleaned blood off his sword at the black pool in front of the heart tree at Winterfell. As to why he was north of the Wall, Bloodraven had been in the Night's Watch when he went north and became the three-eyed raven.

    Oil was expensive during the medieval period, and wasn't used in siege warfare. It's a huge misconception that comes from god knows where...
    However, hot water, or even hot sand coud be thrown down the wall on the attackers for the very same effect

      I think it makes sense. not enough magic has been used in later seasons. this is the kind of stuff the Red Woman would do. especially with the blood of the son of a king

    I mean it's pretty obvious that the Stark Kings are buried down there for a reason and that they are kept there with magic and the swords are the key to that magic. It's said it's a problem when the swords start to deteriorate. So whether your change is a good one or not the idea that they would be able to be used by the Night King as part of his army is ridiculous. Bran the Builder (who built the wall) would have known about his power to raise the dead and would have put in safeguards against that.

    Love your rewrite. I would have the battle starts after 33 days of tiresome defense. How? With Bran using a magic barrier on Winterfell, the same magic we’ve seen used by the children of the forest in previous season...

    I do think that Mel's better lighting up the tranche since it was a nice spectacul. All the other stuff I agree with.

    • @johnnyskinwalker4095
      @johnnyskinwalker4095 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea but the spectacular is not always the best thing. that has been the problem with GoT in recent years, they focus too much on wanting cool visual image that at the end of the day don't mean anything

    Tomont vs the Giant, I'd endorse. The Mormonts vs the bear on top of that is too on the nose. There should be a moment though when Lyanna has cause to show Jorah that he is forgiven past offences and welcome back to the House.
