Update 12-10-18: This video has already been deemed by TH-cam to be "Not suitable for most advertisers." It only took a couple of days. :-) Please let people who get their panties all in a wad about video gamers know that these incredibly realistic games are a huge part of the entertainment world and that everybody who plays them is not a "loser in his mom's basement." I think THAT is still the mindset of a lot of older firearms enthusiasts. I'm in my 20s and everyone says I was born in the wrong time because of what I like. It's great that you took the time to give recognition to the younger generation that loves old things. Love the game and the guns. Great video.
The Semi-Auto Shotgun in RDR2 can be found in 2 places: Watson's Cabin and Saint Denis. Saint Denis is shown to be the most modern city/town in the game so it would only make sense if it had the most modern firearms of the time
I bought it at the general store in Strawberry in chapter 4 I think. I spent a lot of time over around there since I'm trying to get a bunch of pelts for the trapper.

God bless, earned my sub instantly after you said those things. I usually don't subscribe but I'm a long time viewer, thanks for all your awesome content!
I love this man. He's old school enough to be old school cool, and open minded enough to be new school cool. If that makes any sense. Y'all know what I'm talking about.
Being from Germany, it's obviously much more difficult for me to get firearms, specifically these older ones, so to me Red Dead Redemption 2 is a great outlet to enjoy these different rifles and revolvers. It's also great to see a channel like yours that has such a big appreciation for these historic firearms.
Probably why y'all had so many problems. Guns prevent so many things. Imagine if the Jews had guns during WW2. Trained and proficient with them as well.
Guns always scared me because I didn’t have a man or dad when I was younger growing up, but this video and you have really helped me to understand my interest and how much I like guns is okay and also something that is normal and just badass. And I grew up playing RDR loving the guns being such a big part of the game!
Thanks also for your statement regarding those who play video games. I had to retire early due to disabilities so I can't get out to shoot my bow or rifles hardly at all any more. I'm a 52 year old grandfather who's stuck on bed rest the majority of each day. Role playing video games are an opportunity to enjoy archery and riflery in another world as a different character leaving the constant pain of my ailments behind for a little while and enjoy exploring a new world if only for a short time. I am a former US Marine and former avid nature hiker and cyclist as well. Gaming is my only way to satisfy my urges to explore nature and have adventures. My favorite games are Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas. I get my archery fix in Skyrim and enjoy a multitude of weaponry in New Vegas. My favorite fire arm in game as in life is a good old fashion .308 sniper rifle. I find it's easier to avoid getting hit by enemy return fire from greater distances. I'm always glad to see seniors being active and sharing their wealth of knowledge and experience with the younger generation. I think that's exactly why God lets us live so long. So, I thank you Mr. Morgan for doing just that on the regular. :)
That's what I like about games. I'm like, this is art, someone created this entire world, a whole team of people in fact. It's pretty amazing. Games of today are masterpieces and only getting better.
After your introduction as Arthur Morgan every mention of John made me think of John Marston. The thought of Arthur and John playing a western shooter game together is so wholesome
I know this is a year old but it’s crazy how hickok is keeping up with tech, how he plays video games and doesn’t shit on them like a lot/most elders do and can see the enjoyment and quality of them. Love these videos so much.
Well done, sir. You are a fine ambassador to those who love weaponry. I am in my 70s and shot all types of weapons in my youth. I stopped shooting after I was married. My wife opposes any type of harm to animals. I was a hunter for rabbits, foxes, deer, and kangaroos, all of which do damage to our fauna and flora. Target shooting was also a fond hobby. Western movies also gained a lot of attention in my early days. The American Civil and the Indian nations. Who didn't play Cowboys and Indians as a kid? Of course, we all know what was behind the Civil War. In Australia, we had our civil problematic issues as well, with the Indigenous not happy about Old Captain Cook making his mark here. He wasn't alone in inciting the locals and causing unrest. Even today, we still have disputes with both black and white. I have not played Red Dead Redemption on the computer, but that may change in the future. Kudos to you and John.
It's activated 24/7. You know how they got the idea for it? They watched Hickok....on a bad day. He never missed, but he only hit the target three times before it hit the ground
I am 65 yrs old and have been playing Red Dead Redemption on my PlayStation4 since it came out in 2018. I also love Hickok 45 and watch all his videos. RockStar (Makers of RDR2) went to great pains to insure the accuracy of the period firearms. Even the sounds are different in the video. Thank you so much to Hickok for this great video.
Funny thing about his comments on video games. The entire reason I appreciate history and became a firearm enthusiast is because I grew up playing the old Call of Duty and Medal of Honor games, which focused on WWII. It fascinated me more than anything else. From then on, all through my childhood, and to this day, I purposely sought out history books on WW2 and the military and was always eager to learn about firearms from all eras of history. I may never have come to appreciate history and love firearms if I never played those games. And, another big surprise, RDR2 made me interested in an area of American history that I rarely studied: the West. Got me seeking out western movies and learning about gunslingers and outlaws.
When I worked at an electronics repair shop, I had an older man come in and ask me if it would be 'weird' if he were to start doing online gaming as something to occupy his time during retirement, that didn't require going outside on poor days, or sitting and watching TV. I told him no, he wouldn't be the only retired person I play with, and he asked about building a gaming PC. Guy dropped $3k on his first gaming system with the justification of "I don't want any problems with it, and well, if I don't like it, my grandson will." We ordered the parts to the shop, I walked him through putting it together, how to install Windows, drivers, got him set up on all the major game clients, etc, and charged him $75 for my time (Well below market. I just like building new PC's so I always discount that rate, plus it's good for word of mouth marketing). Added each other as friends on everything and played together for a while. He started on story driven games, like Fallout, but the amazing part is he very quickly became a better player than me. He almost got into an Overwatch tournament, where he would have competed for a not insignificant cash prize. The guy loves it. Still likes fishing and the like, but you can't fish every day. But this is Kansas City, and our winters are brutal and our summers and brutal, and some days you just don't want to be outside, and gaming was perfect for him. Mentally stimulating, low physical strain, available 24/7, and there's always something else out there to play. He also used it as a gateway to take up soldering DIY kits, and now runs a custom watercooling system, has upgraded many times, runs Linux on a second drive, tried Hackintosh, and is generally more technologically adapt than the average person of any age, because he found a piece of it that interested him. If you're older and think you'll enjoy gaming, try it. I recommend starting on a slow paced open world story driven game so you can learn the ropes without having everything thrown at you all at once. Games like Fallout, Skyrim, Red Dead, and others like it are somewhere between a book and TV, where you're the protagonist. Games like Wolfenstein or Metro, while great games, tend to overwhelm new players because they're meant to be more of a skill test than a story, though both have fantastic stories (Metro is based on a book, but will also kick your ass with combat difficulty even on the lowest setting). There's also games like Sid Meier's Civilization that are turn based strategy games, like a board game on steroids, that require good critical thinking and planning, and not much reaction time. Then there's good old fashioned 3D platformers, like Spyro or Ratchet and Clank, that are great to just roll a fatty and relax to. There's so many genres out there, at least one of them has the capacity to hold your attention. And you do not need to spend $3k+ on a gaming PC for your first shot. That was excessive, but it's what he wanted, and that's after talking him down from $5k. Told him to save the other $2k for games or a desk or something. tl;dr Let the wrinkles play.
Never touched the games myself. Was down a couple hunting seasons ago after a heart attack and my son introduced me to Red Dead. It’s how I got my hunting and fishing fix while I was down. No reason to make a hateful comment.
I'm 56. I just spent mega hours playing red dead redemption 2. Sure, it's called a game... but it's more like playing a role in a movie! And Hickock doesn't need to play... He is it in real life.
Elliott Goldwyn I’m 56 too and have just purchased RDR2. I agree with you that it is like a movie that we can interact with, play the starring role if you will. It’s genre is rpg (role playing game).
@@gbw28 With RPGs you can choose your role im any situation, and there's a few other factors that usually determine whether it's an RPG or not With Red Dead 2, you can't really choose your role anywhere near as much as you could with an RPG. Either way, its a great game with a real pleasant story. You could say it's similar to an RPG or has RPG-like mechanics, I think that would sound about right
I just picked up a pietta old western 2 which is a colt single action army revolver replica, is way more fun to shoot than my glock 19. Everything about it is just so raw and fun.
this is one of the first channels about guns than i follow, thanks man the content of your channel is so good, i'm subscribe in your channel with 16 years, today i'm 29
Thanks for helping us to welcome these folks. I'm really disappointed in some (hopefully, not many) posters who don't seem to appreciate what these games are doing for the Second Amendment and make comments that alienate new shooters or gamers who visit gun videos to learn more about the real firearms. Geez, how dumb is THAT! It's like the crusty old ill-tempered guys you sometimes run into at gun shows or gun shops, who act annoyed if a young person comes in and asks about a firearm.
Gosh I just love listening to Hickok45 talk about anything, but video games hits differently for some reason. Some kind of cross generational synapses firing in my brain. I want to be a cool grandpa to someone one day.
I mean posting something while the topic is still relevant doesn't really mean it's pandering. Yeah it gets them more views and more money, but that is their job, to make the videos people want to watch. TH-cam creators have pretty much made it so I don't have to buy cable, or any other streaming service, so they are providing something very useful and deserve what they earn.
I actually bumped into a few members of the Rockstar team (who were working on Red Dead Redemption 2) back in Spring 2018 at the Celeritas shooting range in Buda Pest. I was shooting some sweet WW2 firearms but these guys were all down trying out the Guns of the Old West, just to see what they were really like! They were great blokes and I shared a taxi back from the range with them. They had been trying Colt SAA 45s, a Sharpes rifle, Winchester lever guns and coach guns. It was a great day and makes RDR 2 even more epic in my eyes. Thanks boys!
Interesting. I played the game some yesterday with John. He is right about the cylinder and recoil shield of the Colt SAA in the game. Somehow they didn't get it quite right, which there is really no excuse for. The firearm has been around since 1873 with the same proportions and shape. It's not horrible, but it does appear that the cylinder and back part of the Colt has been taking steroids for a few months or something. :-)
@@hickok45 I guess the age old issue of game devs vs firearm enthusiasts having a hand in the fundamentals of design! I thought the Colt was a bit heavy with a big kick in the game, much smoother and less recoil irl. I'm nitpicking now xD
You know, I was looking up guns from Red Dead and they kept taking me to the channel... Now here's a video with all of them! What a guy. I'm really loving the content and enjoy everything about the videos!
Do you know how many times I replayed the game and then got into epilogue and just hopped into The water thinking he can swim like Arthur only to remember wait a minute I’m playing as John lmao
@@idarkowl9094 exactly bro that has happened a lot to me too lmao. In the first red dead redemption, whenever you went into the water, you died immediately. Same with Jack in the epilogue. Guess The Marston family has a weakness to water.
First time watching your channel and let me say you seem like a really sincere guy and want to add to what you have said. I, myself, am a big gamer and you are 100% right. I grew up in a very liberal, anti-gun household. I am starting to learn at the age of 30 that there is a lot of ignorance when it comes to people that are anti-gun. Like you said, ignorance not meant to be demeaning but just a general lack of knowledge. The same can easily be said for video games. Video games have evolved so much over the years that non gamers don't realize what they have become. They have larger budgets than blockbuster films and one of the best storylines I have ever encountered is from a video game. I think people can learn a whole lot from other walks of life. Great channel and keep up the good work. Sorry for the rant.
Same here grew up not liberal but democrat (at 30 now i am a liberal) but i love my firearms i have 2 9mm ar15 maverick 88 shotgun and 22 marlin and im teachig my kids how to shoot ima let them be liberal or cpbservative but i just think its a skill that goes far in life

It's also great to see a channel like yours that has such a big appreciation for these historic firearms.
Probably why y'all had so many problems. Guns prevent so many things. Imagine if the Jews had guns during WW2. Trained and proficient with them as well.
