Outside of skill, missle were not being used, so I wonder if be could fly close to the ground and avoid misslee. He did in one of bis ealeir videos but he had flares, chaffs and the ecm.
seems like poor decisions by his opponent. i don't get why after overshooting he didn't extend using his crazy powerful engines and comeback in more favorable conditions but instead he just turned right in front of his nose
@@Miami1991 mig 19 is completely different... 15 and 17 are close but.... The 17 has a burner.. 15 doesn't. And 19 has 2 engines and mid set tailplane. Differences are what makes things great.
Note that this is a gunfight. Those old jets, they were built around the gun. On modern jets, the gun is more of a sidearm. If the new gen jets were allowed to use their normal loadout, even if you get to the merge (which is dubious to begin with), you'll eat a heatseeker before your first turn it done. Same with those "WW2 or training jet beats the F-22". A medieval knight will always win a fight against a roman legion soldier. Unless the rules states "no horse, no polearm, no sword longer than your forearm." so the knight is forced to fight with their dagger. Those rules are designed to favor one side.
These other guys all fought in a way that minimized their advantages over the MiG-15. They could have used their superior thrust and sustained turn capability to dominate the fight, but they just served themselves up to GS.
Normally a faster fighter with a bigger turn rate would extend away from a more maneuverable foe then return at high speeds and go head to head to negate the superior agility of the enemy. Here they agreed NOT to do that, no head to head shots.

I'd argue that the damage models are pretty fantastic already. There's only so much they can do before it's too heavy of a load. I think that it serves its purpose well.
@@F22Lover IL2 kind of does it better since there aren't set damage points, you can shoot tiny chunks off your opponent, putting holes through them etc. DCS could definitely get that done if they wanted to, it's not that computationally intensive when computers have gotten so much better in the last decade or so since DCS came out

Kids don't know how good they have it with DCS, the first computer flight sims didn't even have runways, the program had you fly over a triangle at the right speed and it meant you landed, found that out reading about the first F-15 Strike Eagle sim for the Apple IIe and IBM PC's.
When you get hit with a missile in an F14 you'll get system failures based on where the missile hit and probably have a chance to eject. When you get hit with a missile, gunfire, or a small bird in an F18 you hear a poof and go into instant death mode with both your wings ripped off.
it's a matter of appearance, the computer takes the damage into account already. You'd need to see the A-10's damage model, one of the most detailed in DCS

@@codypierce2970 While missiles give modern fighters a distinct advantage over 2nd gen fighters, a missile is not a guaranteed "I win" weapon. The USAF and USN learned this the hard way with the F-4 Phantom of which the first iterations of the airframe lacked a gun. Putting that aside though this was supposed to be a guns only fight and my point still stands, none of those 4th Gen fighters should have lost to the Mig 15. They all had better thrust to weight ratios, and higher top speeds. They should have all used boom and zoom tactics rather than trying to turn fight.
The thing I love most about your videos is I like to put myself realtime in the seat and see if you and I make the same maneuvers.... And I usually pick opposite turns and climbs.... And that is why I absolutely suck.
It's a lose/lose for whoever GS is flying against. If they lose it's 'got shot down by a MIg15 in a modern plane, you suck' if they did manage to shoot down GS it's 'you shot down a MIg15 with a modern plane, what do you want, a cookie?'

if i'm not mistaken, when he went vert his opponent had either overshot or didn't have an angle on his tail. when his opponents went vert, he was all but sniffing at their exhaust, which is what gave him their tails

Amazing that a jet that old could best modern day fighters in a dogfight!! I think that the modern jets didn't use their advantages of thrust, but instead let themselves get pulled into the MIGs realm. This is just an observation since I don't play DCS.
You're pretty much correct. At any point, a modern jet can just burn in a straight line and be gone before the MiG gets his nose around. Then they're free to turn around and shove an AMRAAM up his exhaust. Makes sense that the plane designed as a gunfighter is decent in a gunfight.
Whoever was flying the eagle and the hornet should have come into the merge at speeds around M1 and then should have gone into the vertical followed by dropping down on the mig.

i have been doing the same thing with the f86 lately. even in the two circle too, as long as you plane can still the turning at lower speeds. the slower to a point, you are, the smaller your turn circle will be and you will be competitive.
