    Those Korean war dogfights are the best of both worlds - Generally no air-to-air missiles yet (with possible exception of early sub-sonic types suitable v slower bombers) - just WW II style gun kill dogfights but with the improved climbing, speed and maneuverability of early sub-sonic jets! Really one of my favorites - thanks LS!

      Prop fighters kinda turn faster than jets

    I really enjoy your vids and the commentary. There were a number operational straight-wing jets that predated the F-86 (the P-80 Shooting Star and F2H Banshee in the mid-1940s, for example), so the F-86 and MiG-15s were not quite the first operational jets. They're considered the first swept wing designs, though. Please post more. :)

    Love your self deprecating sense of humor. So endearing. You should have brought up that the Sabre was made by North American Aviation, the same company that made the P-51 Mustang with that same bubble canopy layout. They also made the X-15, the fastest manned aircraft ever produced, only the Space Shuttle is faster.

    If they have it available on DCS, you should look at getting into the Grumman F-9 F Panther - the US Navy's first competitive (meaning it could fight on an even keel with adversarial country's land-based) carrier-based fighter jet. Of try the FH-1 Phantom - the actual first operation fighter jet for the US Navy - it should be interesting to see, especially if you're interested in Korean War era fighters. The F-86 of the USAF came on relatively late in the conflict, while the Panther held the line until the F-86 arrived on scene. Check it out - I'd love to watch you do that video!

    • @NyteStalker89
      @NyteStalker89 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you google, neither the F-9H or the FH-1 exist within DCS as of yet.. Korea and Vietnam era is severely lacking but Korean war era is JUST F-86 and Mig - 15.

  • @mikemontgomery2654
    @mikemontgomery2654 ปีที่แล้ว

    With your comment on the jet's visibility, the canopy design wasn't "good on the first try", that was a carry over from Mustang, based on pilot demands for better visibility. North American just carried over the design philosophy because it was proven.

    Question L.S. - Could these early jets better survive taking a few rounds because of less sophisticated design, heavier armor or less powerful munitions - or a combination of the 3?

      I've read, the constructin of the airframes for older aircraft are more forgiving than modern jets when it comes to sustaining damage. The stressed skin construction of newer aircraft as opposed to bolted on aluminum panels to a steel frame

    • @timsullivan4566
      @timsullivan4566 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ThunderBatSims Good point. Plus slower speeds reduced the post-daamage stress to the frame and much more basic components means less to go wrong, I suppose. Thanks for the reply👍

    • @ThunderBatSims
      @ThunderBatSims ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@timsullivan4566 At the same time, modern jets are huge, so one 30mm cannon round isn't going to break off a wing

    • @timsullivan4566
      @timsullivan4566 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ThunderBatSims True, but not many modern fighters could shrug off 3 or 4 rounds, which the Sabre often did.

    • @-Zevin-
      @-Zevin- ปีที่แล้ว +5

      One thing to consider is what side we are talking about, the Saber only used 50cals, good penetration but MiGs were able to absorb many rounds without catastrophic damage. However the MiG cannons were very powerful, even by modern gun standards. The MiG 37 mm N-37 hits like a hand grenade going off on the enemy aircraft, that's a larger cannon round than a A-10 or most modern fighters, really it was the solution in the Korean war to take down bombers, before air to air missiles became prevalent.

    2 birds with 1 stone hahahahahaha. I use to have a Mig Alley sim, and you could have a Mig pumping black smoke and it could still make it home. Consequently one hit from the Mig's Cannon, would toast an F-86. I learned to conserve ammo, by using short burst, as you only had 500 rounds.
