You guys NEED to watch Triumphs complete set at the 1983 U.S festival , They were in theyr prime ,and mopped the floor with every other metal band that performed that day - Rik pulls of the solo of a lifetime - Just trust me man , just trust me!!
Rik Emmett was not only great rock guitarist/vocalist, but he was incredibly versatile. Jazz. Classical..Flamenco. He did it all. Better than anybody. So underrated.
Check out their Halifax concerts first song Tears in the Rain with the drummer keading the vocals. It has a great build and story that would do well in a film soundtrack.
Guys, as a Canadian, I am so glad that you are reviewing some incredible Canadian talent. Rik Emmett is one of the best. You guys by far are the Gold Standard when it comes to reaction videos. Well done lads!
this is when music was real - no bullshit. Either you were talented or you weren't. Band members could play multiple instruments and sing. It was a different time because music videos didn't require bands to look good for the camera. Talent was talent and you made it based on talent alone. What a great time to be young
Rik Emmett may be the best combination of vocalist/guitarist. Outstanding at BOTH!! SRV, Hendrix,Clapton etc. All great guitarists, but average singers. Emmett is stellar at both.
He had the best voice of a great lead guitarist for me. 2 of my other favs for great voice and shredders are Randy Jackson of Zebra, Frank Marino mahogany rush.
Don't hate me, but I think triumph is a step ahead of rush in some aspects. Rush had a better drummer and writer. But triumph had a far better singer who could play lead at the same time. That's tough. No disrespect to Alex. But Neil was another world writer. If he would have been in triumph thing would have gone very different. For the music world as a whole.
If you guys read these comments know this- Emmett is a fucking god - you guys are a bit young to know Triumph but I saw them several times in the 80s and 90s - Rik can sing like no other - can hit the crazy highs with melodic perfection and power, is a guitar virtuoso( check out his acoustic stuff and he is a master of the flamenco style) and just a super positive song writer.. Triumph is amazing and i get a kick out of young dudes like you hearing this for the first time.
I fell in love with Rik Emmett when I saw the music video for Never Surrender. All my friend were into Van Halen but for me it was Triumph!! I was 15. In the fall of 1986, Triumph played my home town Phoenix, Arizona. I was 2 months pregnant with my second son. I went to the concert any way. It was so incredible!! And at one point Mike & Gil left the stage Rik played a 3 neck guitar solo that was mind blowing. Unfortunately the band broke up. I have followed Rik for years!! He was my first love!!! Check out the song NEVER SURRENDER.
734am yes Donna I was 15 spring of 1983 Never Surrender Tour in Long Island Triumph was my Favorite band what songs and such a great live Band also! My first concert what a memory ❤
They don't make them like Rik very often, once in a generation or so. Absolute prodigy on guitar and that voice! He often overshadows the other members of the band, but Gil and Mike are great as well, Glen has an fantastic voice and is a great drummer and Mike plays keyboards as well as bass.
Will you consider Magic Power live 2010 ?? These songs used to be on the radio in New Mexico, they did have quite alot of airplay. I was fortunate enough to see them live 1983 👍❤😎🔥
You should watch some of Rik’s acoustic from the present day. He’s mellowed with age and is just an all around nice guy. He does some good stepped down versions of his classics and story tells in between.
They and Grand Funk are the most underrated bands in history….this was dedicated and written by Ric for his aunt.Cannot believe they had like 16 albums.
Yeah man I remember I was a senior in high school and my friends bought my ticket to go see Dio play in concert and my older sister comes running out of the house hollering , " I know where you going and I'm telling !!" , but I went anyways knowing I was going to get in trouble cuz I had the ride . But when Triumph came on , it was like , bamm !!! Freaking awsome man , I rember I been to a lot of concerts back then in the 80's
I can’t believe how much I enjoy watching people react to music that was such a huge part of my youth. Saw these guys a few times among so many others at The Spectrum in Philly. Many memories made cranking this up back then!! Love the way you go about reacting to these tunes. 🤘🏼
I was there and that's how he sounded. Except it sounded 1000 times better. That's the live version! They are from Toronto Canada which is 4 hours from where I grew up! Buy the live concert DVD you won't be disappointed! I saw Triumph 5 times and they are my favourite Canadian band!
Love hearing the younger generation being blown away with this band as I was back in the 80's. I got to see them LIVE in Florida during mid 80's they are without a doubt one of the best bands LIVE I've ever seen. God I miss the 80's!
You should hear Rik do classical music on a nylon string guitar or a 12 string. The guy is older now and still amazing. He does solo acts from time to time with an acoustic and is funny and still great!
I'm from Halifax, and lived there then, but at the time I wouldn't have been interested in this concert, but dang, I messed that up. I was probably stuck doing some damn physics assignment.
It's a reflection on the lessons from his beloved Aunt's fight and eventual death from cancer. Hard to find a better, more eloquent tribute in this genre, or any.
You need to check out Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. One of the greatest rock/blues players ever. Another great Canadian band that has been forgotten. The liver version on Johnny B Good is impossibly great.
Too bad they didn't have TH-cam 40 years ago so that people outside of Canada could have heard them. They were the first big arena concert that I went to back around '84 in Halifax (I think Helix opened for them) and they have always been one of my favourite bands.
I was lucky enough to see Triumph twice in the 80's in Vancouver. Two of the 3 loudest concerts I've been to, with ACDC being the 3rd. The energy of the show, and in turn the audience was off the chart.
Saw them live in Hawaii when I was in high school in the 80s, July 14, 1983. Still have the ticket stub. Some of the best memories of my life. Triumph live was intense. Rush: Hawaii under pressure was another, along with the ZZ Top Eliminator concert in Aloha Stadium with opener Stevie Ray Vaughan, second was Run DMC, and then ZZ. Nothing like seeing ZZ spin their guitars in person. Intense concert. Three different crowds all in one place, and we all got along! Not like now.
70s 80s were the best times in rock music history. There are no true "rock" bands out there anymore. To be in an arena with 15k+ people to see the bands live and feel the music was a feeling like no other. We would wait in line all night in law chairs for tickets to concerts to try to get a front row seat. Triumph was so full of energy and always a blast to your face. I've seen them 3 times and they never let you down. This is their best hit in my humble opinion. Yes it is an original song and it is ONE song. Nice pic guys.
Five times I've seen this live in the early to mid eightees. I put Rick at the top of my list for vocals including Steve Perry and Brad Delp. Every album has Rick doing an acoustic piece if you want to hear another side of his guitar talent. They're only a couple of minutes each so they're not really reaction worthy but on the side would be great. Midsummers Daydream from Thunder Seven is one I'd recommend.
Watching Ya'll's reaction was Awesome I got to see Triumph Live 9 times starting in 1980 and the tour that you played I saw down front WOW! since 77 I have seen over 600 concerts Rik Emmett put on the Best Performace I got to see I got to see Eddie Van Halen live 14 times and he is Brilliant Rik had the vocals Defiantly could shread guitar and stage presents only wish we had another wave of that Great Rock n Roll your generation could see!
I saw Triumph in 1985 in Toledo Ohio. I had the biggest crush on the singer lol. But they were phenomenal! Molly hatchet open for them. But I loved that concert.
There is a blues Qatar instrumental that he does. It’s called Little boy blue that really shows off how wonderful and versatile. He really is a playing guitar. He’s got classic guitar songs like Midsummer daydream guys. You got a find these songs and play them. They’re awesome.
Hey guys love the videos especially the great Canadian Bands like Triumph! It's been well over a year and a half since this video so we're all due to hear you react to more Triumph! Here are some suggestions of their best... "Rock & Roll Machine" from the same album in 1977 (if you want to thrill to Rik's playing!) or "Magic Power" from their 1981 Allied Forces album. But while on the topic of Canuck Rock you should also check out these awesome bands/tunes from north of the border: 1. Prism - Spaceship Superstar 1977 2. Harlequin - Thinking of You 1980 3. Coney Hatch - Devil's Deck 1982 4. Bachman-Turner Overdrive - Hey You 1975 5. Harem Scarem - No Justice 1993 6. Kick Axe - On The Road To Rock 1984 7. Pat Travers - Snortin' Whiskey 1980 8. Santers - Mistreatin' Heart 1982 9. Trooper - Raise A Little Hell 1978 10. Von Groove - Can't Get Too Much 1992 There are so many more but you can't go wrong with any of the above tunes for starters...they'll leave you wanting more!!! Cheers from Canada Boys! Keep Rockin'!!
I have only ever heard Lay It On the Line in the 80's. But WOW - this performance blew it away!!! That showed exactly what they can do! The guitar was on the left side the whole time. The drums were great too. That solo!!!!! ❤🤘🎶
I have heard this song only from reactions! Some of their other songs I do remember playing on the radio! I don't remember this on the Canadian radio stations I used to listen to, but then again I kind of dismissed this band in favour of the more popular Rush! I'm so glad I am hearing more of their music! They are amazing!
I saw triumph twice and they are a much better live band than studio. I find most of their studio stuff subdued compared to their live shows. Their US festival 1983 performance is one of the greatest guest sets ever. Its THAT good.
Guys! Talk about holding notes you really have to check out Jeff Buckley Mojo Pin! PLEASE!! As for Triumph, yeah, they just don't even make 'em like that anymore!! A highly underrated group back in the day, though.
Rik Emmitt has called more people to the Lord than anyone of my generation. This song is possibly the best yet written! What a message in these CRAZY times. Speaking as a former touring metal musician, I NEVER saw or heard anyone in possession of this kind of talent. Seriously think about it: Lyrics, production, lead vocals with astonishingly precise and accomplished playing? Having watched them, up CLOSE, as close as possible actually I never saw or heard any perceptible mistake .....and all of us had on days and off days. Rik never suffered this ailment. 110% every song, every performance. It was an altering and simultaneously heartbreaking experience. I mean I came up hard and fast and I had to be a halfway decent player or...something ......when people are hurling this kind of cash around right?? If I practice 10 hours a day for another 30 years I wont be as good as Rik was in 1982. But I can tell you unequivocally the man has SERIOUS God given talent. I’ve NEVER seen anything like it...oh and he sings as well......REALLY well. He is EASILY an EVH caliber musician. And I hate that word: my father says it means “unemployed” so I never used it as I felt insulted maybe not worthy of that kind of praise. Rik is now and always has been a premiere musician of timeless talent.
Triumph is awesome live. If you really want to see the diversity and really appreciate the drummer. You need to check out the live song FOLLOW YOUR HEART in Halifax. He can also sing!! Here's the link th-cam.com/video/y8y3oOOxZuM/w-d-xo.html
The loudest concert I ever attended was Triumph in 1986 at Kemper Arena in Kansas City. I sat in the top section; my ears rang for weeks. Such great loud rock and roll.
I actually saw them in 1986 in Miami Florida and the show was identical to what you see in Halifax. Of course in Canada they are going to give an extra good performance. You should see the whole concert of this, like it said, A Night of Triumph Live. They have laser lights and even a talking laser light head. That's how the show started and they had it in the middle of the show asking how we all were doing. Really an amazing show.
Rik Emmett sings with next to no effort...comes naturally to him!!!!! He is one of our many jewels in Our Canadian crown!!!❤❤
Possibly the best combo singer and guitarist ever.
Triumph, Maple Syrup, Rush.
In that order❤
He did back then. Even he will admit he has limitations now. It amazed me seeing him perform in the early 80s how he would hit every note live.
Gordon Lightfoot, Cowboy Junkies, Nomeansno, DOA just saying 😉
Take a look folks, this is what talent looks like
You guys NEED to watch Triumphs complete set at the 1983 U.S festival , They were in theyr prime ,and mopped the floor with every other metal band that performed that day - Rik pulls of the solo of a lifetime - Just trust me man , just trust me!!
Facts!
Yeah, they rocked so hard the sky watched!!!! Both lead singers in this band rock and all three kick major ass!
I was there! And yes, they blew every other band away. Truly one of the most under-rated, under-appreciated bands.
@@delopez1966 that's a big statement and I agree wholeheartedly!!!! 🤘🤣
My hometown!
1983 Foghat/Triumph standing on the floor in a small arena deaf for days, but so worth it!
Saw the same tour in Ft Myers FL. so badass
This song is the bomb!
Best singer guitarest in rock period, Hetfield, really!
Rik Emmett was not only great rock guitarist/vocalist, but he was incredibly versatile. Jazz. Classical..Flamenco. He did it all. Better than anybody. So underrated.
Hey Guys, this brings back memories, I was at that concert!
You leave a Triumph show deaf, dumb (speechless) and blind - it's an experience like no other.
Fast forward to September 2022 in these words are as apropos as ever
Check out their Halifax concerts first song Tears in the Rain with the drummer keading the vocals. It has a great build and story that would do well in a film soundtrack.
Guys, as a Canadian, I am so glad that you are reviewing some incredible Canadian talent. Rik Emmett is one of the best. You guys by far are the Gold Standard when it comes to reaction videos. Well done lads!
Listen to “Lay it on the Line” by Triumph at the US festival!
nothing like being there kids...
because i was !!!
Me too.
Love triumph🇨🇦so underrated

Yes I did see them live back in those days it was awsome!!! ,
Rik Emmett may be the best combination of vocalist/guitarist.
Outstanding at BOTH!!
SRV, Hendrix,Clapton etc. All great guitarists, but average singers.
Emmett is stellar at both.
He's up there with Hetfield in my book, and maybe better. And Geddy Lee. The longevity in the spotlight is the difference. Rik is way underrated.
He had the best voice of a great lead guitarist for me. 2 of my other favs for great voice and shredders are Randy Jackson of Zebra, Frank Marino mahogany rush.
I love how any time anyone says that Rush are the best Canadian 3 piece, someone mentions Triumph. And rightfully so. Rik is amazing.
Gilmour
Don't hate me, but I think triumph is a step ahead of rush in some aspects. Rush had a better drummer and writer. But triumph had a far better singer who could play lead at the same time. That's tough. No disrespect to Alex. But Neil was another world writer. If he would have been in triumph thing would have gone very different. For the music world as a whole.

Seen them guys 4 times great every time
I've seen them 5x..😊😊😊😊
I got to see them 5 times and meet Rik Emmett.

Yup i was there. Never surrender live is amazing.
For a sample of his guitar work........Triumph Stages Live album "Rock and Roll Machine"
They don't make them like Rik very often, once in a generation or so. Absolute prodigy on guitar and that voice! He often overshadows the other members of the band, but Gil and Mike are great as well, Glen has an fantastic voice and is a great drummer and Mike plays keyboards as well as bass.
Triumph was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I saw them in Amarillo Tx!
Fun fact… I was at that concert in Halifax. 👍🏻🤘🤘🎵🎶 and also saw that at the Us Festival in 1983.
The drummer has a amazing voice as well and takes the lead singing on some of the songs.
Yesterday I saw them live back in those days when they opened up for "Dio" !!! , it was a bad ass concert
They and Grand Funk are the most underrated bands in history….this was dedicated and written by Ric for his aunt.Cannot believe they had like 16 albums.
Yes on the Grand Funk comment, My thought, too,
Saw them at a rock superbowl. Citris bowl orlando
I saw them 8 tours in a row!! ❤️❤️❤️⚡️⚡️⚡️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
There's a reason why John 5 said Rik is like if Eddie Van Halen was also an insane lead singer.
They toured Florida often, and I got to see them several times, and they always left you wanting more.
I can’t believe how much I enjoy watching people react to music that was such a huge part of my youth. Saw these guys a few times among so many others at The Spectrum in Philly. Many memories made cranking this up back then!! Love the way you go about reacting to these tunes. 🤘🏼
Amen!
Same here!! I get to experience it vicariously again through them for the first time!👍
Im addicted to peoples reactions to I wish i saw them when i lived in NJ
Well believe it
@Chris Henry so true. Kind of forgot about them until I started seeing people reacting. Realized once again why I loved them so much back then. 🤘
I was there and that's how he sounded. Except it sounded 1000 times better. That's the live version! They are from Toronto Canada which is 4 hours from where I grew up! Buy the live concert DVD you won't be disappointed! I saw Triumph 5 times and they are my favourite Canadian band!
Aloha, saw them in '83 San Diego...they had a fffing Halogram skull that said...and I quote..." it doesn't get any hotter than this"...peace
Fun fact>>>>
He is actually a lefty, who learned to play righty!
I’m a lefty and lay right to! Kurt Cobain is right handed and plays guitar left handed lol. I still play air guitar left handed. Weird haha
❤❤❤❤ thanks for the great reaction video 👍👍👍💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥
The drummer Gil Moore was also a singer with Triumph. They shared that role. To hear the other side of Triumph, listen to Rock and Roll Machine.
I've had the privilege of seeing Triumph live 6 times, 1983, the first and 1988 the last time. Every time quite the experience
Love hearing the younger generation being blown away with this band as I was back in the 80's. I got to see them LIVE in Florida during mid 80's they are without a doubt one of the best bands LIVE I've ever seen. God I miss the 80's!

I'm from Halifax, and lived there then, but at the time I wouldn't have been interested in this concert, but dang, I messed that up. I was probably stuck doing some damn physics assignment.
Saw them in Portland in 1983, fantastic concert
It's a reflection on the lessons from his beloved Aunt's fight and eventual death from cancer.
Hard to find a better, more eloquent tribute in this genre, or any.
You need to check out Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. One of the greatest rock/blues players ever. Another great Canadian band that has been forgotten. The liver version on Johnny B Good is impossibly great.
Glad I saw Rik Emmett and Triumph, back in 1983. Yep, incredible!
Fun to watch our Canadian talent drop on your laps forty years after it was in our day-to-day listening. Very cool.
Too bad they didn't have TH-cam 40 years ago so that people outside of Canada could have heard them. They were the first big arena concert that I went to back around '84 in Halifax (I think Helix opened for them) and they have always been one of my favourite bands.
I like the song HOLD ON. Great lyrics.
I was at the concert in this video. 21 years old and they blew our heads off. 🤯 I will always remember it and I'm glad they recorded it! Thanks!!
The 80'S ROCK!!! , GREAT SINGERS IN THE 80'S
I was lucky enough to see Triumph twice in the 80's in Vancouver. Two of the 3 loudest concerts I've been to, with ACDC being the 3rd. The energy of the show, and in turn the audience was off the chart.
"New Orleans Is Sinking" by The Tragically Hip
Legendary Canadian band - you guys absolutely need to hear them too.
I seen them about 10 times, they used to come to my home town every year from 1976 - 1987.
Seen em twice when I was in high school in the 70's. Great live band.
You want Rik guitar, the US festival Rock n roll machine. The whole song is a setup for his guitar solo.
Triumph..great band..I met rik emmit down to earth..human being
.close friends with Rush..same town as I am ..Toronto canada
Saw Triumph a couple of times. Yes, the shows were all you could ask for and more. Thanks for the reaction.
I got to see them live 3 times. It was a great show no matter what venue.
Great song! My friend from high school loved this band and saw them in concert!
I was there in Halifax. Epic! Epic! Underated as hell! Best concert I’ve ever seen. Besides Rush!
I saw them in concert on new years eve with kick axe opening , was a great show.
you can watch this whole concert on TH-cam. one of best 80s concert you'll see.
You guys need to listen to their song Ordinary Man. So brilliant.
There is a blues Qatar instrumental that he does. It’s called Little boy blue that really shows off how wonderful and versatile. He really is a playing guitar. He’s got classic guitar songs like Midsummer daydream guys. You got a find these songs and play them. They’re awesome.
Forget never surrender
Forgot to include never surrender. Don’t forget it, great lyrics. Hold on not hold the line.

There are so many more but you can't go wrong with any of the above tunes for starters...they'll leave you wanting more!!! Cheers from Canada Boys! Keep Rockin'!!
I was at this show. They always delivered and you got more than your money's worth.
Was in high school in 1981. This song brings back memories. Triumph was a great band. Still love this song 40 years later.
Me too. So glad I got to see them live. There'll never be anything again like it.
1979, Orpheum Theater, Memphis. Yes, great live band. Was a great era for music, period.
they did Rock N Roll Machine at this festival and Rik did a 5 minute one handed guitar solo
Silk shirts were a big thing for a short period, I had one. 😳
Saw these legends 12x in their /my hometown Toronto… gotta check out Little Texas Shaker off RocknRoll machine

Saw them in LA in the late 70’s, and they were incredible. Another great Canadian power-trio.
You guys mentioned that you wanted to see Rik just jamming.. you really need to check their song, Rock and roll machine, from the 83 US festival.
The greatest concerts I have ever been to. Triumph was a show!
I’m hearing a lot of post production. But I love triumph
A grand freaking slam with 3 great musicians! The best!
The US festival version is epic, have to watch that/
Triumph is awesome live. If you really want to see the diversity and really appreciate the drummer. You need to check out the live song FOLLOW YOUR HEART in Halifax. He can also sing!! Here's the link th-cam.com/video/y8y3oOOxZuM/w-d-xo.html
Another one of those 'How can three guys make so much noise?!' bands. Gotta love 'em.
The loudest concert I ever attended was Triumph in 1986 at Kemper Arena in Kansas City. I sat in the top section; my ears rang for weeks. Such great loud rock and roll.
I was 9 rows back, swinging my tour t-shirt the entire concert. So underrated.
Triumph, the other great, 3-piece Canadian band.
Top 10 GOAT!
I had front row seats when they played in San Antonio, TX in the 80's and my ears were ringing the guitar riffs for over a week!!
I saw Triumph in concert in 85! They killed it!
